I've been to this Islands Restaurant a few times as it had been my buddy's "go-to" to catch a game. Why, I don't know... but that's neither here nor there. And after tonight, we'll catch games elsewhere. And to be perfectly clear, service at the bar has been in a free-fall since we've had to depend on the asian female who's been working there for a long time. It hasn't mattered if we sat at the bar, or at a side table in the bar... she sux... BAD! We've observed her now over a good long period of time, beginning when there was another female working the bar at the same time, and it's clear that if you're not one of her regulars, she doesn't smile at you and almost ignores you. Tonight was the last straw. After 5-minutes, she finally took our drink order. Then after 20-minutes as we sat there starving with zero eye contact and her seemingly avoiding us, we walked out. Family of 9 went Sunday the 20th April For dinner and our waitress was horrible very unattended gave us our bill and one of our parties was waiting for their all you can soup and she didn't even come back to take our dessert order so needless to say we paid our bill and left without getting dessert for the kids very dissatisfied read more

First time coming here and trying a burger & THE Kilauea Burger IS SOOO GOOD! If you enjoy a little spice in your I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! I also got a Lava flow which was delicious. It took 25-30 minutes for us to be seated which was typical of busier restaurants. Service was awesome I believe our waiter was Brandon & he was super friendly & fast! Waitress, Lizzy, got there pretty quick after being on a wait that was half as long as described. I'm about to mention a few things that Lizzy did that I disagree with...I'm wrong, I just disagree. She confirmed everyone's order by confirming that they wanted everything listed to make sure we got the right things. Takes a few extra seconds and I don't like it...I know, I'm wrong. As a waiter I would've taken multiple orders at once and out them in to cook. She told the table she walked by she'd be back in a moment and immediately put in our order... The food...there was a solitary piece of chicken on the nachos, no bueno. She took care of it though. Sliders came with no grilled onions. Item with two ingredients was missing one of them. Burrito wasn't hot enough to melt any of the cheese, which inadvertently cools it even more. The chili cheese fries weren't bad except they came out last some how. read more

My girlfriend and I came in for dinner last night, not knowing what to eat. Finally, I decided to try the Huli Huli Crisp and the Shipwreck. Let me tell you, man, was I surprised at every turn! The Shipwreck made it way to me first! A coconut rum and midori cocktail tail wit OJ reminded of a piña colada meets screwdriver! It was sooooo good! The garnish was spectacular too! Who doesn't like a slice of fresh pineapple!?!? Next was the Huli Huli Crisp! I was a bit apprehensive after our server explained what it was but decided to just enjoy the adventure of it all. A sizeable fried chicken breast glazed with the afoot huli huli sauce on a pillow of shredded lettuce and topped with a pineapple ring. Blew my freaking mind!!! The Huli Huli sauce is kind of like teriyaki meets hot barbecue. If a sweet heat is your thing, then this is the sandwich for you!! Finally, the French fries, these fresh cut fries were great, especially when sprinkled with their "islands" seasoning and refills at a $1.75 each was a great bonus too! First time at this Islands. Service was good, we sat at the barstool tables because it was a little busy. There were a few times when it was a little challenging to get someone either to get a refill or ranch for our fries, but overall it was good. Ambiance was perfect, with good noise level at this type of restaurant and with the Dodgers on television. The food was ok, as the server said it was going to be medium but came out well done. Came in on Monday night with my honey, I can't remember my servers name but he was wearing a blue shirt and was wonderful! Chips and salsa and drinks came out right away. We had the Malibu burger and quesadillas and they were AMAZING. Server was super nice and very efficient even with his other tables.( I'm a server too so I just notice those things). Came here on a Saturday at 2pm party of 6 we got seated quickly. Menus were on table and waiter was nice. Everything tasted good. However the reason I give a 3 stars is due to the long time to get our meals at the table over 20 minutes. Then my burger coming out rare instead of well done which took another 15 minutes for them to bring the new one out. They almost forgot a drink too. Maybe the place is understaffed in the kitchen or in servers because our server also looked really busy that's why it took long, but for this experience it wasn't too pleasant. read more

I went for happy hour while I was killing some time. Their HH beer specials are $2 any beer or $3.25 for a 16oz coors light. The regular price of their other beers is about $9. $7 for a happy hour beer is not a good deal. As I was leaving I asked them to validate my parking ticket. I was at the shopping center for less than an hour. As I was leaving the parking structure I put my ticket in the machine and it showed $3 due. It's supposed to be up to two hours free with validation. I pressed the help button and explained to the attendant. He said validation doesn't make it free, but discounted. I was only there for 45 minutes, so it was supposed be free. I guess Islands didn't validate me correctly. Beware and get your ticket validated somewhere else. A $3.25 beer turned into a $6.25 beer. read more

Would honestly rate the experience closer to a 2.5 but I'll round up because it's the holiday season and thus the slow service/understaffing is kinda expected... anyway, we arrived around 2:30pm and waited about 20 minutes to get seated. Our server was really nice and took our orders fairly quickly. Drinks came out pretty fast, but food was a longer wait, and the bill took so long that we honestly thought about going up to pay instead of waiting on someone to help us haha... I could see our server waiting on other tables so I don't blame her for forgetting us but it was kinda frustrating because we were more than ready to leave at that point. As for the food: Kilauea burger: My dad asked for medium on a white bun. He said there was no seasoning/salt, literally only tasted spicy and also his burger was burnt and overdone :( Malibu burger: My mom asked for medium well, but it truly looked the same as the other two "medium" burgers. I think she enjoyed her burger though! Hawaiian burger: Glad I went with this one because the pineapple and sauce really helped create flavor in an otherwise flavorless and overcooked burger patty Island fries: These were soo disappointing, I feel like they weren't fresh? My dad tried mine and also said the same, like mine didn't taste as fresh as theirs did. They weren't crispy, had no salt (which is fine because you can add salt yourself), and there were a few random stale hard fries. I usually love fries but these were not it :( Overall, I just felt like the whole place was understaffed and disorganized today, which led to subpar quality food. I always love going to an Islands. My go to burger is the hula. The great thing about this location is that it's conveniently located in The Pike across the convention center. There's plenty of parking and lots of things to do around the restaurant. It's my go to if I'm in a hurry. The service is amazing here. We came with a large party and very thirsty, our waters were consistently filled, we were being checked on to make sure we were okay. Everyone ere is extremely friendly and happy. Arrived around 12pm and was seated right away on a Saturday. Service was nice and started us with water right away. It does take a while for the servers to notice you until you wave them down. The Tortilla Chicken Soup it was very good and definitely worth trying if you want something light. Soup has 2 size option. For appetizer, I recommend Truffle fries.
