I never really go to islands. I always thought this place was overrated. Had to go hear for a work function to celebrate milestones. Was here on a Thursday, 5pmsh. Ordered some appetizers and drinks. The food and Drinks did not disappoint! Happy hour was definitely worth it. Prices were all half off from the happy hour menu drinks and special menu and appetizers. We kept ordering drinks and Food. Lol Overall had a good time. My pocket did not hurt. I left around 8pmsh and was feeling good. Great service and parking. Definitely worth it for happy hour. I am yet to try regular hours.

Here for a quick bite. Sat outside in the patio. Server was friendly but not attentive. Quiet inside and outside, so can't blame it on that. Got a bowl of the tortilla soup, skimpy on the chicken. Got the Islands Tropical flight and that was awesome, especially the Big Island Iced Tea and Shipwrecked-- delicious!! Hate to see it offered only as a summer item. The Redondo Beach location offers easier parking (Do not like the central parking structure nor the one by Macy's; neither very convenient) and better food and service.

First time at Islands and stopped in with my husband and daughter for a quick bite. The menu is pretty extensive--lots of options, which some might love, but I personally find a little overwhelming. Service was nice and the place seemed very busy but clean and in order. I went with the fried chicken salad, which was fresh and tasty, and also ordered the chicken tortilla soup. If you've read any of my previous reviews, you know I always try the soup if it's on the menu. This one was just okay--not one of my favorites. My husband had tacos that must have been great because he didn't save me a bite. My daughter had the chicken strips and fries, which she enjoyed. We also ordered the sweet potato fries--definitely recommend those! Overall, a casual spot to have a quick bite.

I have been coming here to this specific location for 20 years and this time I have noticed major differences than the islands usual. The spinach dip is maybe a quarter of the size with 15 chips. I would not order again. My favorite is the endless tortilla that has stayed consistent over the years. The chips and salsa has gotten worse from the usual. The tuna burger was okay but I would still recommended the Kiluaua or classic big wave. We will continue to come back because of the great service and islands ambiance despite the food quality and quantity changing.

I being coming to this location for a while now I like the food is very tasty. They have very good customer service, the restaurant is always nice and clean. I really enjoy the tortilla soup is one of my favorites., I also like the pork tacos too., the green sauce has a really good flavor. I do have to mention that is very unfortunate that they not longer serve carrots with the order of wings., not sure why tho!

Nice sized TVs in the bar area.

Seems like they always need to sweep this place. You'll usually find food items on the floor. But, service is usually good. We like to sit in the bar when available. The speed of service depends on how busy they are but either way, pretty fast. Big TVs with today's sporting event and some surfing ‍ and snow skiing videos . Fries are hit and miss. Today's were just okay, even after sending the first round back because they were not hot. Two entrées, one soda and tip, $45. Normal for today's prices. Nice place to take a break before, after or during your mall shopping. Enjoy!

Bar service was great in my visit . I was constantly checked on and was greeted very warmly from the very beginning . The bartender was super quick to help me clear the table . I think we had telepathy she got me napkins right when I looked up at her at some point lol . I wanted an appetizer and a drink. If you like a nice fruity Margarita try the passion paradise margarita on the rocks the Tajin rim is a plus . So far so good . Might be back next Sunday for more football, food and margaritas.

The service was okay. The waitress came by to check on us. I just went for a drink, chips, and salsa. The drink was OK. I got an iced tea. The chips, on the other hand, tasted bad. They tasted as if they hadn't changed the taste of the grease. You can't definitely taste old grease. It had a bad aftertaste. The salsa also didn't taste good. It just tasted like tomato paste. There was no flavor whatsoever.

I had to wait for the hostess for a long time and after we finally got seated, the waitress did not come for another 10 minutes. The service is very slow we left we didn't even try the food. They definitely need to improve the customer service.

I'm doing the most here, but Islands is more than just a restaurant for me. My grandparents would always take my brother and I here since before we could walk. With my feet dangling from the booth, I would smash my Tiki Tenders (chicken tenders) and my brother would demolish his Sandcastle (grilled cheese). We would split a basket of endless fries that, to this day, are my favorite fries on the planet... TO THIS DAY. That "Islands Secret Seasoning" for the fries is the real life Krabby Patty. Our most recent trip was the most special yet. I was back in from NYC and it was my grandparents, my mom, my brother and I, and his 3 month old baby posted in a stroller. 4 generations in this thang. Beautiful if you really sit and think about it. I've graduated from the tiki tenders to a Big Wave ($15.59), which is essentially just a hamburger. HUGE portion though. It also comes with a big side of their infamous fries, which in 2024 is a rarity. Even though it hurts my soul they got rid of the endless fries, I can't really be mad. My brother and I would actually eat our body weight in those fries back in the day lol they were forsure losing money on us. Living in New York City, words can't begin to describe how much I miss Islands. There is no substitute. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

The Strand House offers good food, goodservice, and amazing views and vibes at reasonable, but upscale prices. We came with my family for an early dinner on a Sunday afternoon. Off the lunch menu we had the Italian panini ($29), which was a surprisingly complex sandwich with mortadella, salami, onions, lettuce, fresh Marzano tomatoes, and many other vegetables. It was served with an exceptional set of fries, which had a great amount of garlic and the perfect blend of crisp on the outside and softness on the inside, along with tangy ketchup. The children got the pasta bolognese ($14), which was a standard bolognese, although the pasta was a little overcooked. We also got a child salmon ($21), a surprisingly generous piece of fish, well cooked with a somewhat crispy exterior and soft interior alongside broccolini and whipped mashed potatoes. The service was decent - our server collected our order, checked on us appropriately, and generally took care of us throughout our visit. As the pictures suggest, the interior is quite upscale, scattered across three floors with a view overlooking the main road and the beach itself. This led to an excellent, breezy atmosphere and spectacular views, perfect for a hot day. Prices are a little on the elevated side, but not excessive, given the highly popular location of this restaurant and excellent views. Overall, The Strand House offers an appropriately upscale lunch or dinner at an elevated price for the discerning customer looking for good food and excellent views with a price to match. The day of the reservation, the host manager called to confirm that we wanted to share the news at dessert, and if there were any other accommodations we needed, which was very sweet. When we arrived at our table, they had a card signed by staff congratulating us, and it was a night to remember. Great food, great service, and the warm hand towels after my dad demolished the baby back ribs were the cherry on top! Our group also ordered the chilean sea bass, salmon, and bistro plate. 10/10. And that much is true, I went in 2023 because I wrote a Yelp then for that experience. And I continue to believe it is a "solid choice." I can see how it can lend itself, and be enjoyable, to many eaters. And how its beach adjacent location draws many sandal wearers and surfers gone business casual for the night. So I will begin my focusing on what I thought was our servers faux pa. My friend Conrad and I hang out on spin mode, with the cycle never really stopping. So we kind of have an implicit expectation that sometime during our time together we will break bread. But on this ocassion, I had already eaten and he had not. This does not mean that his hunger would be true until we parted ways. We could eat together, even if I was not eating. We were by the joint so we decided to eat there because I wanted to share with him what I have found to be consistently solid and pleasant. While we were there we got a table for two. We informed our server that only Conrad would be eating, since I had already. And he gave a look. Yes, a look that I interpreted as a mix of confusion and judgement- which together makes out of place bewilderment. Why? I can totally see a pair of folks being too embarrassed to go into a restaurant, especially, a nice place like Manhattan Beach Post if only one was eating. Again, I can understand that easily. I mean people are shy and unwilling to insert themselves in situations that are non standard. But then there is other people. The people who wear PJs to the store, who rock hair of a purple shade, and well, others have grown so old that eating with a friend while they are not eating, is not embarrasing, rather just the steps of an unplanned evening. To be more specific, I think the server should have saved his "not even a drink" and proceeding confused face to himself. Conrad and I had valid reasons for entering and not dining as a duo and he should have responded with undersstanding, not just like I had said I was so hungry I could eat bigfoot raw. In short contrast, I offer the host of the place, Crystal. While eating with Conrad I did taste just a wee bit of his four cheese ear shaped pasta- Orichette- and his biscuit. The biscuit is strong but with the maple butter it sings hard, give this buttered biscuit a stage at Madison Square garden or that famous opera house in Sydney. The Orichette was also super good but one of the cheeses had like this chalky taste. It did not taste bad, but also not good, which made me engage with the dish at an analytical way. And personally, when food makes me think, I love it. Crystal heard a version of this dialogue and engaged with me saying that she feels the same way because it makes her feel like a food critic. She also asked me to go when I was hungry. Service like hers makes a place shine. Service like the server gave us makes me question why there was no guard at the door ensuring that both of us had an appetitte. The decor of the place is one that I have seen in the recent the weeks---- brown with live plants. It is lovely. It is both muted and alive. This place has been around for years and will survive my review. And I do plan to go again. And I will make sure to be hungry. I am not sure if I can guarantee that for the person I take but I will try my best.

The Parking Score 2/5: Manhattan Beach can be nightmare because it is mainly street parking. According to another reviewer, there is a small lot behind the building. If I lived in Manhattan, I would be a regular. Highly recommended.

Happy hour and the $2 burger on Tuesday... The $2 burger -…read morepretty tasty. Happy hour tidbits included the veggie flatbread (pass next time), truffle Mac and cheese - good; meatballs -pretty good; street tacos- excellent! fries - I love skinny fries! The happy hour menu is 1/2 portions of the regular menu, so you need to order the entire menu if you want a full meal. Service was good.
