This place gets way too busy during happy hour. If the patio isn't available, the bar is open for grabs. We got lucky finding a table at the bar--a small corner table. Server Christopher (not sure if that's his name, you. black male), took our order and was friendly. He was nice at first but forgot about us towards the end. The food took awhile. Let me begin by saying we had extremely bad service two times in a row. I was actually surprised because I have been patronizing this restaurant since it opened and I never experienced anything like that. I called to speak to the General Manger, Toni. She couldn't have been more patient, understanding and extremely apologetic. She asked us to come back as her guest and give the restaurant another chance. She arranged for the manager on duty, Ricardo, to take care of us. He was extremely friendly, professional and accommodating. They gave us the best server in the house, Ricardo/Server. She took 5-10 min to acknowledge we were there; did not speak or crack a smile; just asked were we ready to order. We asked why she took so long to get to us, she said she was busy and had other things to do. You never say that to a customer. It went down hill from there. We had to flag down other people to get extra napkins, condiments, to go boxes, the check. If the other people couldn't get it for us, we asked them to find Jennifer and ask her to come to our table. Jennifer was just not present for us as a waitress. I notice she was like that with other tables she was responsible for. The good: Every server here was really spectacular! Two waitresses in particular were really kind (I didn't catch their names). One saw me holding my two month old when my food came and said "I really wish I could hold your baby for you so you could eat." She must've been a mother herself. Servers also checked in on me at appropriate times and the service was really quick. The ambience was rowdy because there was a football game going on that was being shown on tv. They have an outdoor dining space that's quieter. They're connected to the mall area but you can enter from the outside as well. The interior is themed in a Hawaiian-vibe with tropical bird statues and surfboards. There are also a lot of local Manhattan beach photos. I got the tropical alcohol flight, a lemon slush, a carnitas bowl, mud pie, and the kilauea burger. I liked how the burger was heavy on the black pepper flavor and how the patty tasted like something you'd make at home (with a lot of fresh meat and little to no filler). The coffee flavor in the mud pie was delicious. The lemon freeze is a lemonade blended with ice cream and it was fabulous with only 180 calories. It reminds me of the lemon milkshake at Chick-fil-a. The carnitas bowl was my favorite dish. The bowl was well balanced with different textures. The seasoned tortilla chip strips added a nice crunch. The cheese was gooey. The slipper wild grain rice was cooked nicely. The meat was tender and not dry. It even had fat pieces in there which was great because it had flavor and didn't taste like generic processed meat. The green chili sauce added a subtle kick. I'd order the bowl again for sure. They have happy hour after 3PM on weekdays. I liked how kids got crayons, a placemat they could draw on and a cute sippy cup. The bad: The burger would've tasted better with fresh onion I think. He told me even if it's not on the Uber eats menu, I can tell him my order and my name with my modifications, and they will prepare it. This Islands is located in manhattan village next door to the Macys. You can walk up and be seated outside or now they are allowing inside dining. My friend and I sat inside and caught up for at least two hours! Im thankful they dont have a limit with dine ins. I ordered the Northshore tacos which have changed. Not as much meat, mostly lettuce and they were a little dry. I asked for more salsa and that helped with consumption. I was going to get the buffalo wings but I could.not pay $15 for them. That is upsurd! To make matters worse, they took them off happy hour The bottomless fries are no more! They come in a smaller basket and are not shareable anymore. It is really for one person. Believe me I've asked and am told it's only for patrons at the bar . Either way no hard feelings it's just unfortunate when you would like to take advantage of it. The food and service is always quick and friendly nonetheless. My foods cooked to perfection and flavorful. Located in the Manhattan Beach mall, I went here today for dinner with my parents to celebrate Mother's Day. Upon entering we were kindly greeted by the host and offered seating at a booth. After ten minutes, the food arrived to my excitement. The fries were fresh and seasoned just the way I like them. My burger was amazing, I liked how each of the ingredients complimented one another, particularly the mustard and pickles, giving the burger a sort of tang. All of our food came out at the same time as well, so no one needed to wait to dig in. When you order, you're given an option on how you want the burger cooked, I asked for well done which was what I got to my delight. Been going to this location for a long time. Today I ordered again the China Coast salad and asked that the chicken be warmed up as opposed to being served cold. I've been eating this salad the last few months to scale down a bit on my eating. The food was good as per normal but my dissatisfaction started when the check came out. The salad on the menu is $15.89, however, there was an extra $5.35 charge for warm/hot chicken. This is the first time I've seen this despite having this item 4 times in the last two months. So I asked the waiter to explain. The waiter said that since I wanted the chicken hot, the chicken was eliminated from the salad and then they added a side of hot chicken to the order. He also added that the chicken is better quality with it being hot. This did not make any sense to me as the chicken is the same and all they did was just heat the chicken up. I tried to explain to him that I've never seen this before and that I've had this same salad this way many times before without the extra inflated charge.
