This place came recommended by a friend. It's great for a quick bite without being considered "fast food". They offer a ton of options for unique sandwiches, pizza, and pasta. I hear they have great sandwiches, but I ordered the spaghetti with meatballs. In hindsight might not be their strongest menu choice. Environment: The deli has plenty of seating for a small, casual, quick place to eat. They have little drinks and treats on shelves you can buy to go. The food took maybe 5 minutes before my number was called. This was during lunch on a Monday afternoon. Spaghetti with meatballs: there was way too much sauce, not enough noodles. I could have used a spoon to eat it. The sauce was decent, but not great. Garlic or herbs would be a nice addition. The meatballs were huge, moist, flavorful, and overall pretty good. The noodles were cooked well and not overcooked which is always good! Very lightly sprinkled with Parmesan. It did come with a small side salad and piece of bread which is nice. Overall I would go back to try their sandwiches. But I wouldn't get the pasta. read more

Since it's right around the corner from my office, we used to come her like twice a week to get a toasted bagel and scallion cream cheese to kick off the workday. Their bagels are fluffy and delicious and always served nice and warm with a generous helping of schmear. They have a bunch of different flavors of cream cheese, but the scallion one is my favorite. I come here for lunch often. I've gotten the true Italian, Luciano, and Milano. I like how you can choose between a hard roll and soft, I always choose hard which ends up scraping the top of my mouth but totally worth the pain. All which are very good. I will say that the Philly cheese steak was a let down but not a reason to take any stars away. Over all service is fast, place is clean , and food is consistent. Stopped to enjoy some tasty pizza. I called ahead and the order was ready in 10 mins. Thumbs up for expedient cook time! This is a great place to come for breakfast and lunch for sure. Today, i selected a nice thin crust cheese pizza. It was not bad. I probably was looking for a bit more favor and i regret not sprinkling parmesan cheese on it also. Horrible food horrible people and horrible service. I ordered a cheesesteak combo. The guy that took my order understood me enough to take my money, but didn't do what I asked, which was to toast my bread on the grill. That's not complicated just put the bread on the grill and let it toast. They couldn't do that. Everything was undercooked the cheesesteak, the onions, the peppers, the fries and the bread. I went back in and asked if he could make another one. He told me they don't toast the bread, and couldn't make another one unless I paid for it. The Golden Triangle needs this place! Delicious new cafe/restautrant specializing in all things Italian from espresso to fresh mozzerella by the pound. I tried the "True Italian" on hard bread and it did not disappoint. 10 inches of mouth watering cold cut. They also offer combos including soup and sandwich or sandwich and chips and a drink for $10. I am looking forward to trying out the pizza and salads as well. Service was a tad slow at lunch pre-rush, but I think part of that was oblivious patrons not realizing their numbers were being called. Accepts Discover card, another plus. read more

Really disappointing. I was looking for a casual Italian near my hotel and found this place along with a Yelp deal. I don't really have anything positive to say so I'm sorry. - Most tables were not clean - Chicken parm. was one of the worst ones that I have ever had. The chicken way wayyyyy overcooked and actually burnt. I don't know how the guy cooking this didn't notice it. Ehhh... For an Italian Gourmet Deli, I was expecting more.... I stopped in for lunch during the weekday. I ordered through an on-line app, which is always convenient. The app is not an app for the restaurant but more like a "Level-Up" kind of thing where a bunch of restaurants participate. Anyway.. Ordered on the app and went on my way to pick it up. I ordered an Italian Sub.... You know, since it's an Italian Gourmet Deli.... And.. And... I was left short with disappointment. The best thing on it was the fresh mozzarella I paid extra for on the sub. The fresh mozzarella is probably the only reason I enjoyed it. Otherwise, I would rather get an Italian from Bub & Pop's on M St. Not sure if I'll be coming back... I guess I would if others want to come. I'll start by saying I would be considered a hoagie snob by my peers and I would probably agree with them in general. I grew up in South Jersey and worked in a first generation Italian restaurant till I was 19. I became familiar with quality meats and cheeses, crisp vegetables and good hot peppers combined with fresh chewy bread. Italian Gourmet hit all 5 stars with its Boars Head Spicy Italian Hoagie. Maybe one of the best in DC. As for the friendliness of the staff - there was no friendliness. Not a "hello thanks for coming in today!" Not a "hope you enjoy your meal". Nothing. I get It it's a deli. But with so many choices in the area for a quick lunch I would be all about developing repeat business. Lastly, the food came out lightning fast and at 12:00 noon on top of It. If I could give them zero stars I would. I ordered pizza and that's it. When it came time to pick up my order, after waiting a while, the girl with the long red hair came to the counter with my food. I asked for a bag and she told me to wait my turn. She had to first give the white woman next to me her food (who also ordered well after I did). I proceeded to ask her for a bag. Normally I get a cheesesteak or Italian and those are good. Today I ordered a meatball sub. IT WAS A TOTAL RIPOFF 3 meatballs in a 10" sub roll. Half the roll was empty. When I complained, she argued with me. Said it was the way they make them. Note, the amount of steak in a cheesesteak here weighs more than the meatballs in this sub. And meatballs are not pure meat. The food is really great and they have some of the best fries I've had but they do not renew the drinks in their fridge and despite several reports I have made to them in person, their expired drinks are still there for sale. I used to frequent here almost daily for a quick salad or panini (the only 2 food items I order here) since my office is very close and I always enjoyed the food and service. I gave 4 stars because I believe that they should provide some sort of discount or punch card or even create an app to reward their regular customers. But left and came back a few days later because apparently I wasn't the only one dying to try it out. Anyway - the wait was wild and I wasn't exactly pleased. Even though this is about a block from my office, I feel that they are overpriced in comparison to other locations in the area and it's not exactly worth it. The sandwiches are pretty basic and the portions are nothing to brag about - not worth what you'll pay (or wait for). Honestly I rather go across the street to Subway for half the money and get what I want. I had their Italian Wedding Soup.. I love the idea of the place. As a person who works on L street this place should be a go-to spot for lunch... or not. I have a few complaints. Although the bathrooms are more clean than your average restaurant, the tables are almost always dirty when you go there. Even though the outside of the restaurant is covered in advertisements for what they sell even "coffee", they only brew coffee in the morning. I can understand not everyone drinks coffee in the afternoon; but when you are the least expensive coffee in the surrounding area you could at least serve one Carafe of coffee. They do have a great lunch special and a short wait period (If you order in-person only, when I order over the phone I'll show up 30 minutes later and sometimes my food is still not done) and some interesting food options. My last complaint is to please update/fix your menu. The description of most items are incorrect. I ordered a salad that was advertised as only having 4 basic salad ingredients in it only to get there and find out that there was sooooo much more on the salad that almost made it seem unappetizing (at least to my tastes). read more

After a long day of walking 7 miles around the area, I was in need of so some major grub. It's a nice deli to rest my poor dogs. The menu and more than plenty to select from for your growling tummy. I went for the chicken pesto sandwich, oh so yummy. Knowing pesto is a more expensive ingredient because of the pine nut, this place did not short change me on pesto sauce. I KNEW with every bite what I ordered. The chicken was cooked to be soft, obviously not sitting out for awhile. The panini break was nice and grilled just enough, no rock hard bread here.
