This is not one of our favorites by a long shot! Walked to this place because Luigi's had an emergency. They sat us in the bar because that was the coolest place, and it was quiet! It was quiet because it was like sitting in an inferno! The sun was bouncing off the building across the street right in our faces! I went to dinner the weekend of February 18th with my sister and a few friend. We all sat in a little area that was perfect for us all to visit. The waitress we had was so disappointing. She was so frustrated when taking our orders as well as answering questions. I had tried four different times to tell her that I would like the check at the end of the meal. Not only Ds she give it to the wrong person she actually came to me just before and said "Now I have time to talk with you" I was so upset at her response and shocked to even believe that had just happened. Her customer service was appalling . Plus she even got an 18% tip which I would have left her nothing. The only saving grace was that the food was delicious. The gnocchi was AMAZING! My husband and I visited on a Saturday night for dinner and were pleased that it wasn't too busy. We decided to eat in the lounge where it was quiet and intimate. Sadly, a day that had been planned for several months and was meant to be incredibly special was ruined by the grossly unprofessional, profoundly disrespectful, irrationally angry and utterly shocking behavior of the owner of Italian Kitchen. Every member of our party of 15 was mortified at the way we were treated. My husband, in collaboration with my closest friends and family present, were celebrating my graduation from Gonzaga as a 44-year-old mom on Mother's Day. We opted for a 3pm time slot placing our party in an empty restaurant between the lunch and dinner hours for most of our time there. Up to that point we had been enjoying a delicious meal and excellent service by the wait staff, who were very attentive, friendly, and professional. After the meal, my husband and my 2 college-aged children (art and theatre students) began presenting me with a gift of a lifetime - a trip to Italy - via silent charade. About 4 MINUTES into the gift presentation (we have it on video) the visibly angry owner appeared, did not identify himself, and proceeded to insult me directly, demanding that we cease immediately. He was completely unresponsive to our attempts to explain or seek compromise - he just repeated his insult. His behavior was so outrageous that for a time I simply watched him, speechless, waiting (and hoping) for him to burst into laughter because it was all some kind of joke. By the time he stormed off, every last person in our party was stunned and horrified. Words cannot begin to express how embarrassed I was, for myself and - more importantly - for my husband, children, and friends who had put so much into this special moment! I am still dumfounded as to what could have possibly motivated such irrational anger and despicable treatment of customers of such a large party spending several hundred dollars at his establishment during an off-hour time slot. Again, this man turned our special occasion into something that will always be stained by embarrassment and ugliness. Nothing can ever un-do or remove the damage he did to what was supposed to be a cherished moment! That moment is gone for good. There are many wonderful restaurants in Spokane where the owners value all their customers, understand customer service, and their people skills don't include insults and anger. My takeaway message: I will vote with my buying dollar at one of those other restaurants. read more

Ate dinner here last seek. I had the gnocchi in a rich cream sauce with pancetta and peas. It was very rich and delicious. My husband had the spinach ravioli with a Bolognese sauce and was very happy with it. We had a group of 5 people and they were able to provide separate checks after the fact no muss no fuss. The food was very good, the staff was very friendly, prompt and professional and I liked the look of the restaurant. I would happily eat there again. read more

It looks intimate and it looks like it would be a funky place to have a few drinks and a meal. The service was good and if I can give one suggestion - go with the tiramisu. Randomly stumbled upon this place while on business in Spokane. They have really great service with friendly staff. It was pretty slow on a Sunday, which was nice. We ordered a bottle of wine but didn't finish so they re-corked it for us, which I always appreciate. My coworker and I ordered spicy sausage gnocchi and lasagna and split between the two of us. The gnocchi was good but the lasagna was AMAZING. You must order this!!! Overall a great experience. read more

I had not been to the Italian Kitchen in years but I have been hearing good things and felt it was time I returned. My hubby was hungry for Italian...so we went. Bread was great (le Petit Chat rosemary bread!). I had the seafood fettuccine and it was pretty good. It has a variety of seafood, the sauce was good and it as certainly plenty (I had the small plate). My hubby and I both had salad. He had the house salad with a balsamic vinegar dressing...and it was "ok". I thought they would have a better house salad than tomatoes and lettuce. I had the caesar which was again "ok". My husband had the linguine with prawns. In comparison with other restaurants, he was disappointed that there were only 4 medium shrimp in his pasta. Our server did provide good service. It was good...I won't cross it off as a place to go...but no "wow" factor. read more

Ugh! Expensive, bland and unsatisying.

Our first time at Italian Kitchen tonight. The server was very nice and helpful. However, the food was disappointing. My linguini and shrimp had a bland, watery broth and one shrimp was so raw & fishy that I lost my appetite. My son ordered sausage ravioli which was ok. He prefers the marinara at Luigi's--more robust & flavorful. The spicy seafood puttanesca was the best entree by far, but 2 shrimp...really? Even the bread was so-so. The desserts weren't much better. The chocolate cannoli were thick & hard & the creme brûlée had a thick sugar crust that wasn't edible. All around, a very disappointing meal. Not worth $130 & we won't be back. Europa & Luigi's are preferable. read more

I would have to say four stars is quite appropriate. All the food was delicious, the plate size did not fit the price. Customer service was also for stars, as you were greeted when you walked in and I checked in on you periodically. Though I didn't mind the amount of privacy we were given. read more

This is a great place for a date. Nice atmosphere of dark wood finishes. We always sit in the bar in the back booth and get great service. Last time we had the Tuscan Chicken and it was delicious. I can generally find the good in a place and look past flaws. This time I can't do that. I pre-checked the website menu and was happy to find crab cakes on it, which led to me selecting to eat there...they had been removed from the menu along time ago but the website wasn't updated according to our server. The wine menu is sadly very limited on local wines. The overall appearance was pretty dirty that night, with the oil bottle on the table not only oily, but actually dusty. But the last straw was when my daughter's spaghetti came out with a large metal shaving they looked to be part of a scrubbing pad in it. This was my second time to Italian Kitchen. I though they were good the first time-- had their Lobster Ravioli then, but now I think they are fantastic. I had their one-of-a-kind Lasagna, Potato and Sausage Soup, a glass of Sagelands Merlot (WA) and split their Key Lime Cheesecake with my husband. Everything was so delicious. They have a warm, welcoming dining area, with beautiful dark wood cabinets and mood lighting ;) Our servers were all friendly and attentive (but not too attentive) And the cherry on top is this all came to $60.00. Not bad. I would recommend this great place to anyone that likes Italian food. They do also have a full bar. read more

We had the BEST ending for dinner from our two week vacation through the NW of the US! The food was absolutely amazing and the service was phenomenal!! Everyone was so so sweet to our kiddos and family! When they sat us at our table, they already had waters at the table for everyone and noticed we had a two year old so they had already sat out a sippy cup of water for him! They kept bringing us bread without asking if we wanted anymore. They refilled our drinks numerous times, you would have thought we were their only customers and it was a packed house!! We will definitely be coming back here hopefully soon being that we came from TN! I wish we could give this place a 10 star because they deserved every bit of it! not my favorite Italian food experience. the blackened halibut was sooooo salty. the cioppino was uninspired and the presentation was pretty sad. it also tasted like tomato soup with some fish and small shrimp added. the highlight was the stuffed mushrooms.. but they were also drowning in cheese. our server was really nice. I would not go back. the prices were outrageously high, for the overall experience and very basic food. the ambiance was nice.. it's too bad they don't make their own pasta. for that kind of money, they need to elevate the cuisine. read more

And boy was I glad I did! I had the lobster ravioli and the wife had the Italian sausage fettuccine. Both dishes were fantastic! Very authentic flavors. We had the cheese cake for dessert and all I can say is OMG! Now my wife wants the Yelp app on her phone. read more

This is a great little place. I'm here on business and wanted a place to get some dinner and watch the Thunder/Warriors game. When I asked if they had the basketball game on, the host said yes-turns out it was the Gonzaga game, but he was nice enough to switch it for me, just so I could see my Thunder get killed (oh well). At least Gonzaga won! The service was great, and the food was delicious. The tiramisu was heavenly! And it really seemed like a family restaurant-a cute little girl brought me my water. The sausage and barley soup was wonderful, and he meatballs were out of this world. Portions were very large, and well worth the price. I came to this restaurant when another spot was too crowded and based on the Yelp reviews. Maybe it's me but the emperor has no lasagna. I orderd the overpriced lasagna and it looked lovely but I did not care for the heavy, dry, hard meat filling or the taste of the combined sauces..tomato and alfredo. the menu had some interesting offerings I selected the lasagna because it is their signature dish. The Italian Kitchen is my favorite restaurant in Spokane for italian food. The service is always exceptional and this last time we went it was no different. We were seated right away and had our beverages served in no time. We had the stuffed mushroom appetizers that didnt disappoint as well as the minestrone soup. The soup tasted a bit more like Vegetable beef soup than minstrone, but was still delicious. I ordered the baked lasagna which comes bathed in marina and alfredo sauce, it is scrumptious! Never again!!! Went this past Monday, with my wife and children, on the recommendation of a co-worker who goes whenever she is in Spokane, I had high expectations. Upon entering the young staff were attentive and pleasant, service was good and timely. Kids had chicken Parmesan and a cheese pizza which they enjoyed, large portions for kids, took most of the pizza home with us. My wife had the tomato, boccancini, basil focaccia bread which was more of a pizza, but tasty, I ordered the baked lasagna. The starter Caesar salad was mediocre at best, the lasagna was tasty for the first 2 bites, but not great, good marinara sauce but a weak Alfredo over the lasagna. Cutting in for another bite I encountered a large piece of cellophane/ plastic wrap buried in the lasagna layers, immediately sent it back with no appetite for a replacement. Of course I was not charged for my lasagna, but expected a bit of a break on the bill, perhaps comp the 1/2 carafe of wine. Went to bed a few hours later with a stomach ache and awoke in the middle of the night to run to the bathroom, unsure which end would explode first. read more

Owner Lyndsay has a natural knack for engaging her customers, and the intimate nature of the restaurant only adds to a seemingly natural warmth.
