clam chowder and fried foods is a staple of a Seattlite's diet... its how we stay warm on the 332 days of cold throughout the year! i'd say Ivar's is consistent with their clam chowder no matter the location that you eat at which is great. is it the best clam chowder ever? no. but best of chain locations? yes. i've had better chowder at smaller shops or mom and pop shops around town. what makes this location good is you know what you'll get for food and flavor. my only gripe is the price. i know seafood isn't the cheapest thing to eat - but except to drop $30 - 40 easily on two people ordering an appetizer, chowder, entrees and two drinks. its about the same price as a full size restaurant without a bar or happy hour options! read more

I mean what can I say? Everything is fried perfectly! The staff is actually super duper friendly! And very personable. Only thing is when I ordered the Super clams and chips, I got slightly bigger clams but still the same portion as the regular clams and chips...so was a little sad when we got home and opened it. This is a fast food fish restaurant with GREAT fish and seafood. Its a great place for the price. I recommend the grilled salmon.

Another perfect evening in Burien at Ivar's. Our littlest kid wanted crunchy clams, so here we are. The employees were perky and polite as usual, the food was tasty, the whole place was clean. But here's why I'm updating my review: The fellow cleaning tables came around offering everyone towelettes for the end of their meal. Just being nice. Awwww. Went here a few Fridays ago for take out because my wife and I were desiring some fish and chips. The service was quick, waiting about ten minutes from placing my order till it was finished; a major reason for this is I arrived around 445, before the big Friday rush. I'm giving 5 stars because the fish hit the spot today, and I'm a seafood snob. However, I have never been satisfied with the size of the fish. They're ridiculously small. I ordered a side of the fried green bean snackers which were $2, and I literally got 7!!! minuscule green beans. I definitely think it should be advertised as 7 fried green beans for $2, but what are the chances of them selling any at that rate? Stopped by on our way from Portland to Seattle. Ivar's chowder bread bowl is always welcome comfort food that is consistently good. This particular restaurant presented like a fast food venue, but they served up the food to your table with a smile. The cashier/waitress was pleasant and made our stop here a great decision for a lunch on the run. It is what it is....but it is actually pretty good, considering! the staff at all locations seem to always be very nice and friendly. The locations are kept clean, and things are pretty consistent. The food is good for the most part. The chowder is excellent, and I generally get one of the seafood combinations. It is prepared to order, so it is hot and tasty. Overall i prefer Captain D's (which don;t exist around here) and Long John Silver's, but Ivar's has an overall better quality menu. read more

I love this place for so many reasons. First is the great service. The food is very consistent at this location. My personal favorite is the cod and chips. Cajun seasoning or original rocks! I've enjoyed the boat with friends, fried oysters, shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad. They have my favorite clam chowder in Seattle. You can't get fresher seafood for this price. Ordered Chicken N' Chips over the phone. When I came to get it the Manager and his staff realized they forgot to place the order. Acted like it was no big deal as I waited. Took my food home, opened the bag, and found it was fish n' chips instead. Drove all the way back. When I walked in and explained that the order was wrong they once again acted like it wasn't a big deal as I waited for them to cook the chicken. I tried to hand the bag of fish back. And the manager told me to keep it. I told him I can't eat fish. He told me to go find someone that can. Um...what? I'm not the one who messed up 2 times!!! Didn't offer me a free drink or anything. Surprise, surprise... I am never going back! And for everyone who is wondering what I did with the fish... I gave it to some random guy and after a bite he said it was the worst fish he's ever tasted. Haha!!! read more

I've lived in Seattle for a few years but never been too Ivar's before now. Finally got a chance to try it last week. My friend and I got a few different things to let us sample the menu. We started off with the White Clam chowder. It was certainly good but not quite legendary. Then again I've lived in New England so my standards are pretty high. After our chowder we had the fish, calamari and fried clams. Everything was good, but the clams in particular stood out. Just the right level of crispy. The restaurant was super clean and the staff was very friendly. Now I feel silly for waiting this long to try it out. read more

Ultimate sadness. I love consistency in a restaurant. Epic fail at this Ivar's. I've been kickin' it quite a bit in Burien lately and have been eating fast food there more than I'd like. The first time I checked in, the food was good and the restaurant was clean. I wish the second visit had been more like the first. Unfortunately, the food just was NOT Ivar's quality. Never been to an Ivar's before and probably won't be going back. I ordered the halibut and chips with a cup of chowder. The fries were great, no complaint there. Halibut has low fat content and is hard to fry without drying it out. Unfortunately this was a little dry, probably fried it for like 30 seconds too long. The chowder was terrible. Based on the reviews obviously people have different tastes, and this taste just was not for me. I used to love Skipper's and their style, Ivar's is... different and just tasted awful to me. For my money I will go to Wally's Chowder House when I want fish and chips. Just a little bit more generally but everything there is perfect. read more

My father passed away yesterday morning, I spent the entire day comforting family and calling everyone and taking care of my stepmother... I hadn't eaten all day and I craved fried clams (as I do...). My husband got there maybe 5 minutes before closing, apologized and explained the situation... The food was OK here, but the service was terrible. Their staff calls out peoples names to bring them their food, and apparently just hands over food to whomever raises their hand. Our food was given to someone else and we waited half an hour at a fast food chain to get something to eat. It was ridiculous. The menu is all over the place! The fish sandwiches are on the express menu which isn't visible from the line for regular orders, so there was a back and forth while the fish sandwich options were relayed. The result was one unordered item and another two minutes to generate a credit. Fish n chips is supposed to be the epitome of fast food but this place makes it look like Microsoft designed the procedures. They're wasting time which means money in a busy airport. Jeez. The saving grace is that the food, once it arrives and assuming the order has been interpreted correctly, is very good. read more

This used to be my go to place for seafood but my experience yesterday came as quite a surprise. The staff was great and friendly but the quality of the food has diminished greatly. The clam chowder used to be nice and thick. Now it is watered down and with less flavor. The clam strips are smaller with a lot of small little dark fried batter. The scallops were under cooked and mushy. Plus the price has gone through the roof. What has happened to this place? I wonder if it is just the location. I will try another to see if the same. read more
