Came in on Ivar's 114th birthday (the founder, not the restaurant) for their buy one get one for $1.14 promotion. Despite the line extending outside of the restaurant, they were still pretty fast. Each employee was smiling and joining in on the celebration. As for the food, I was very impressed with their Pacific cod. The serving size was generous. While not quite enough for two adults to share, the 3-piece was plenty to fill up a hungry adult. The fries were not the best I've ever had, but they were decent. They did become less appetizing as they cooled, so it's best to eat them right away. Nice to have this neighborhood location available! read more

The staff at this particular Ivar's is always friendly and attentive. Every time I have been there, I see managers checking in with customers to make sure their food and service is satisfactory. Rarely (if ever) have I seen that from a fast food restaurant. The food is also served in a timely manner and at a high standard. read more

We stopped there about a month ago, looking for a lunch of fish and chips. When we arrived, there were two other patrons in the place. By the time we left, it was packed like sardines. My favorite location. Very quiet, even though it was a busy night. The fish we had tasted great, cod and halibut. Great portion. Affordable. Better New England Chowder here than in New England! Loved the fried cod and the shrimp cocktails. Makes you fall in love with seafood again. Recently, I went to Maine, and the lobster there was just sad. The lobster bisque, lobster tails, and even lobster ice cream was sad. Ivars near downtown was the classic back in the 1960s and 1970s. "Acres of clams!" they boasted and it was probably true. Now they have a variety of "fast food" type outlets around the area. The fish is fresh - I had the Alaskan "True Cod." I thought the breading was a bit, well, bready; but I'm an anti-glutenist so you'll have to judge for yourself. The salmon chowder was good - very rich. Made with bacon - which I think is an imperative, but I mention it for those who abstain from pork. The "shrimp cocktail" was sort of pedestrian. Baby shrimp - but I think they were looking for something to add to the menu for just a couple of bucks and so here it is. Dump your shrimp into your chowder. Nobody likes cocktail sauce anyway. read more

The food was good, however I paid $6 for a small can of beer, and had to wait about 5 minutes for it to be brought out to me. Overall, I got a 3 piece cod & chips, and 4 piece cod & chips, two small cups of chowder, a regular drink, and a small can of beer for $32. The price seems high but really no one does it like ivars does. read more

Service was super slow.. 2 people got shrimp & chips witch was super good! But me & my mom Got the crab legs witch are $60 they were the worst crab legs we have ever had There were cold & very spongy didn't taste like crab at all. I'm sitting in here now and I keep seeing the employees go in & out without washing their hands or changing their gloves & they're touching door handles & going to peoples' cars. Fish has no flavor and fries aren't crispy. Best thing about the food was the cornbread which is basically cake with a side of butter.

Customer service was also great, got our orders fast. I have been itching to eat at the Ivar's chain forever. Work brought me to the great Pacific Northwest and the need for gasoline before dropping off my rental car brought me to Burien. While filling up the car I noticed Ivar's across the street and off I went. I was surprised when I walked in as I thought it was more of a sit down restaurant but in actuality it looked like a fast food joint. No biggie just not what I expected. It was very clean. Ordered the Cod n Chips and a side of Clam Chowder. The order was ready quickly and was brought out by the friendly server. The cod was deep fried in a panko coating. The fish was super tasty and the breading added a nice crunch. The fish tasted better than what I have received at other chains such as Long John Silver, JJ's and H Salt Esq., but the coating did lag behind in the seasoning department compared to those mentioned. The chowder was loaded with clams and had a peppery seasoning that I enjoyed. I prefer my chowder base to be a little thicker but that problem was solved with a package of saltines. Their house tartar sauce was fantastic and had a nice hint of dill. Overall, one of the best seafood fast food restaurant chains I have visited. read more

I went here with some friends after a great road trip. We've been craving clams and chips. The food was absolutely delicious, I would say the clams were a bit to bland, but maybe that's because I've never had clams before this. The touch screen soda machine was great! So many options! Old standby, friendly service. Cod is high quality with nice batter, but once got a bad piece that was replaced very graciously. Full Boat order is the way to go if you have a hungry party of 3-4. Fries that come with the Boat can be subbed out for onion rings. This place has one of those fancy Coke machine dispenser things with many flavors to choose from. read more

I'm giving 5 stars because the fish hit the spot today, and I'm a seafood snob. However, I have never been satisfied with the size of the fish. They're ridiculously small. I ordered a side of the fried green bean snackers which were $2, and I literally got 7!!! minuscule green beans. I definitely think it should be advertised as 7 fried green beans for $2, but what are the chances of them selling any at that rate? Other than that, for a simple fish and chips spot, most definitely worth it. read more
