This looks like a nice place and our waitress was quite good, as were the ribs my wife ordered. I ordered the encrusted cod, though, it was the worst-tasting cod I've had in my long life. I was barely able to eat it, and could do that only after I had scraped all the ill-chosen drippings the chef had selected which clearly did not go with the fish or each other. Inconsistent... Ambiance 9-10 - Really quite nice. We were seated in a little side room on the main floor. Quite nice... got a little warm but we were able to prop open a french door and enjoyed a nice breeze. Wait staff 5 but grew to a 7 - interesting Our waitress was quite standoffish at first but then warmed up and became more attentive as the meal progressed Bread 6-7 nice Bread served nicely tasted nice. I do agree with Karen D... weird flavored butter. Appetizer - Crab cakes 1 then an 8 - confusing yes The initial serving very small and burnt to a miserable crisp on the bottom doughy on top... Quickly replaced with perfect crab cakes perfect with a very nice flavor. Soup and Salad - 7 Nicely done, Main Entree Surf and Turf (filet and lobster) 5-6 Filet ordered medium - came well done. flavorful and tasty - not tough Lobster - very uneven... Seasonings all dumped in the middle - unfortunate because the presentation on top of the shell was nice and the flavor of the seasoned section was nice... the ends were cold and unseasoned. Desert- are you kidding... my wife thought the creme brule was the best she ever had... only it was so small - two bites and gone. Overall i think this restaurant has a chance. The opportunity is there and these mistakes could easily be overcome with a little more attention by the Chef.... perhaps a second look at the plating station before the food is served. read more

I also went to Ivy on New Years Eve and had a fabulous time... The music by The Piano Man played for 3 1/2 hours while people danced in the aisles! We enjoyed the surf and turf and a bottle of Vueve Cliquot. Loved the chocolate covered strawberries! We felt the price for New Years Eve dinner was appropriate. The staff was welcoming and very accommodating. All good! After years of spending big money in the city, it was a pleasure to spend NYE at Ivy in Wheaton. I made reservations for Mother's Day and my wife wanted to sit outside so I called ahead to make sure this was possible. The person I spoke with on the phone said, "if the weather is nice, yes, you can sit outside" and I replied, "well, it's 70F and sunny, so can we sit outside?" The answer was "yes, just talk to the hostess when you arrive." When we arrived I asked for a table outside but was told "no" by the hostess. I explained that I called ahead to prevent this from happening and instead of getting a sincere apology for any confusion, I was greeted with rude defensiveness from the hostess. I was told many shallow excuses, but never got the impression that she really cared about the expectations we had and their failure to meet them. (Hint: if you tell me on the phone that you aren't doing outdoor seating, I'd be fine with that. But don't tell me one thing and then do another.) We sat down at our table, but after a few minutes we decided to leave because of how we were treated. The best part: Ivy "canceled" my OpenTable reservation which had a nice effect of preventing me from leaving any negative feedback. If you can't treat your customers with some semblance of courtesy and respect when they arrive, I have very little interest in sticking around to see how the rest of the night goes. Life is too short to reward bad service like that. PS: Oh, we drove over to Arrowhead, had no problem sitting outside and had a great time. Revisited Ivy on Monday with friends and had a great night. I cannot describe how incredible the lamb chops were. Extremely tender and the mashed potatoes and asparagus were perfect. Again, don't miss out on the dessert, you won't be disappointed. We were fortunate to have Dale as our waiter and he made the evening a night to remember. Came here for NYE. Food was delicious. I loved the side salad of mixed greens, gorgonzola and balsamic vinaigrette. So good I ate every last bite. Calamari with peppers fantastic with the sauce. Nice and crispy. Our two ribeyes and new York strip were cooked perfectly to order. Love love love the dessert choices. Especially appreciate the fact that they have "tasting" desserts for $3, which I think they give a pretty decent amount for portion. Pistachio panna cotta and crime brûlée, yum! Only thing I was unhappy about is we really had to corner our server to put our order in. But Ivy seemed understaff for a busy NYE night so with amazing food and a sincere server, I don't mind it as much. We needed to get in and out and once we put our orders in, everything came out pretty quick. Live music and complimentary chocolate covered strawberries more than made Ivy a worthy experience. I can't say enough about Ivy. I've never had anything but a 5 star experience each and every time I've been here. The first experience was always the best. My family and I came on a Friday night in August, and they had some live music on the patio, so we decided to dine outside. The restaurant was packed inside, as well as out. The ambiance is great and you get a really cozy feel dining here. It was a bit dark on the patio, but the food definitely made up for it. For appetizers my family and I ordered the black pepper shrimp, as well as the calamari. The shrimp were the better of the two, and came in a black pepper sauce like the name says, with some pieces of bread sopping up the sauce. Great dish, and one of my favorite appetizers. The calamari was also very good. The breading was very crispy and fresh. I'm not a fan of the white sauce that comes with it, but it really is great. My main course was the shrimp and lobster pappardelle. Easily my favorite pasta dish of all time, and I've tried pasta dishes from all over the world. Such a buttery creamy sauce with slivers of extremely tender lobster claw meat, along with some big and juicy jumbo shrimp. They add some spinach leaves to the sauce, and finish it off with some toasted seasoned bread crumbs on top. This is the type of food you dream about, and you know you dreamed about because there's drool on your pillow. I finished with a Key Lime pie for dessert, which is really just a little personal custard cup of pie. Tasty as well. Since then I've been there 2 times, and had the calamari usually, as well as the chicken noodle which was very fresh and seasoned. I've tried the pork tenderloin medallions. They come in a really concentrated demi, which is just boiled down veal stock, and creamy sweet potatoes with blanch and shocked string beans. Their pumpkin pie they serve in place of the key lime pie in the Fall is some of the tastiest I've ever had. It is a tiny portion, but so good. I can't give anything less than a 5/5 to Ivy, and would give it a 6 if I could. The dinner is priced very well, and is superior to far more expensive establishments I've dined at. The service is impeccable, they have a modest wine and micro brew selection. The food consistency is out of this world at Ivy, and honestly my favorite place to dine anywhere, including Downtown Chicago. I'm beyond happy to have such a great, upscale restaurant to dine at, 5 min from my house. read more

I took a date here for Valentine's Day 2012. The first thing that strikes you about Ivy is how beautifully the building's former space, a church, is utilized. Three rows of tables replace the pews, the stained glass windows remain and a fireplace stands in for the altar. We began with an appetizer of bacon-wrapped chorizo stuffed dates, a choice I recommend and which seemed to be quite popular with other guests. For the main course I had the Milanese chicken and my date a shrimp and lobster pasta bowl; both met with strong approval. We each had a different glass of wine and ended with a crème brûlée and hot fudge brownie, respectively. A three-course meal for two with alcohol and tip came in just under $100, very fair given the quality. read more

My favorite restaurant is The Turf room near Batavia/North Aurora. This is the only other restaurant in the last 2 years in the Western burbs that is of the same quality food. Well staffed, we were seated right away with our 7:30 reservation. Strolling violinist was a little annoying. Can't wait to try again with warm weather on the patio. I had tournedos of beef that were the best I've ever had. Carrot cake desert was good, it would have been excellent if served warm. We will becoming back. read more

Went there tonight for my girlfriends birthday and this was hands down the best night out we have had in some time. The food and service was perfect. And our server Ben was absolutely amazing!! If I could give ten stars I would. We where all blown away, he said he would embarrass my girlfriend for her birthday and when he came out and sang opera at the table we where all taken back. We sat in a booth, which I would advise because the open area has high ceilings and can be noisy. I have found the service to be excellent. Pros: Christmas Carolers were fabulous. Environment was very good. Bus boy was the most positive, helpful and professional staff person during the entire night. Bisque was good. Pork shank was good. Cons: horrible leadership - cocky, arrogant, obvious that any constructive comment could only be our/the customer's issue/fault not his. Was not able to relax - wait staff wanting to pull plates as soon as you put your fork/spoon down, even if we had not completed course. No offer/mention for bread during with the soup course - the bus boy when prompted brought it. Put entrées on table even though my 81 year old mother was in the bathroom. Even though prompted regarding the concern for the food getting cold there was no visible or vocal consideration to hold it back until she returned. No inspection by the wait staff to assess if any flatware was needed - bus boy brought after prompted. Crab cakes were burnt and black on the bottom. Chef/Cook came out and politely offered to correct but way to far into the meal. Cost of crab cakes were removed from the bill. not worth another attempt. read more

She had a bright smile and very cheerful attitude and obviously enjoyed working at this restaurant. I ordered the Ivy golden ale which was very good. I had a cup of cream of mushroom/Brie soup of which I could have eaten a gallon it was so good. I then had an open face meatloaf sandwich which I enjoyed immensely. My wife had a prime burger with truffle mayonnaise and mushrooms and onion straws which she loved. I plan on stopping back at this wonderful place the next time I am anywhere near Wheaton. read more

We have been her several times but not in the last couple of years so maybe things have changed....and not for the good. We visited this past Saturday and looked forward to having a nice dinner. The menu offers many options and we spent some great time deciding what to order and anticipating a great dining experience. Service was fast and attentive initially. The appetizers and bread came out quite fast. We requested more bread for our party of 6 several times but none was ever provided. Then we waited a loooong time for our entrees. Needless to say they had been sitting somewhere for quite some time before they were served. Lukewarm fish is never a good thing. No condiments were on the table or provided upon request. We couldn't even get the bill delivered quickly so we could get out. We asked to speak to the manager but after waiting ten minutes we left. I see several reviews here with the same issue of poor service, cold food and a manger who could care less. He doesn't even bother to address his negative reviews. So after spending close to $400 for a dinner that was poorly prepared, poor service and indifferent management we will not be back. There are many new restaurants opening in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn and I suspect Ivy will be feeling the pain soon. read more

We were in ivy this past saturday and had a lovely time, as always. We were sitting right next to a booth that had an incredibly difficult woman. We felt so bad for our waitress. She was an amazing server but was distracted by the table next to us. They did nothing but complain and got their free food to go. Ivy is a fantastic restraunt that we visit frequently. This is both a summer and winter review combined. I have dined at Ivy twice now, once in the summer on the patio, and once currently this winter.Each time was better than the previous, which makes sense as I believe this Restaurant has only been open for a year. The Summer: Young hostess sat us on the patio, lovely atmosphere. Ordered brie and wine, server was nervous about pairing but after some coaxing (from me) she let me know what she liked and I took her recommendation.Brie, wine and service were all excellent. The Winter: Elegant and fun. We dined on a Sat. with reservations.Our reservation was 10 minutes behind so we waited at the bar. From the moment we walked in the door we had a great time they even have a coat check (very nice). The energy is amazing. The hosts were very polite and a bit playful, they sat us on the main floor ,I am unsure if our servers name ( young man very confident dark hair). It was very busy. The evening was perfect. Great food, Squash ravioli, Lamb Chops (lamb chops so delicious and tender) and wine aside, what we were surprised about was both the Owner (tall silver haired gentleman, very funny) and the manager (bigger guy also very funny) both stopped by the table through the course of the evening. It appeared they did this at most of the tables. That was most impressive. What a place in the suburbs. Two suggestions however (this is a review after all). We were close to the fireplace and the kitchen noise was very loud, even on a busy Saturday night we could hear a lot of kitchen conversation. I am very new to the area by about 4 months,. A new neighbor in St.Charles told me to try Ivy in Wheaton. I was compelled when they had told me it was in an rehabilitated Church. We chose a Wed. evening as these neighbors informed me it was very busy on the weekends. It was a drive by about 20 minutes. When I arrived it was a feast for the eyes. I was so taken back by the way this building was transformed, beautiful. I was greeted by a duo of hosts, a young lady and, who I assumed was the manager as he was involved in several tasks at the moment, but still was very welcoming. The young lady was very charming, all smiles and polite conversation from host desk to table. I asked information on the building she directed me to the back of the menu, a very well written bio. I did not want to press her for a complete history I was ready to dine. We sat at a table to the side, very simple table setup. The kitchen noise was very apparent, but was simple to dismiss. Our server was a gentleman by the name of Jeffrey. He is a tribute to his craft. No question we asked went unanswered. Per his suggestions we started with the pepper shrimp as an appetizer, it was fabulous, sweet and spicy. (dip the table bread in the sauce) In the mean time Jeffrey suggested Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc as the wine for the evening, it is one of my favorites so it was no contest. I had the Tornado's of beef, it was a very well put together plate. The beef was prepared exactly to our specifications. We were told to ask about this dish. In the neighborhood I am in now it seems to have a reputation. My partner had the Gorgonzola lamb chops, unbelievable, though I have had these at other restaurants Ivy has mastered the craft, these went very well with the wine. The entire staff was very friendly, The owner , I assume,( tall gentleman, silver hair) stopped by our table. Note to restaurateurs,all business owners should practice this, it is a dying aspect of hospitality, we were amazed, so few places encourage this it seems, we love it every time.He made us feel right at home. This was a great evening, hands down. We commented several times during our evening how well the staff responded the guests, lots of laughter, what a testament to this establishment. On our way out we stopped at the host stand to compliment the manager (a taller bald gentleman), He was extremely friendly and spoke with us at some length about the history of the building itself. He invited us back and we of course informed him we had every intention of returning. Disappointing, one of our favorite restaurants. It is a 5 star dine in restaurant, however, fell short on the carry out concept. I alway give this place good reviews on open table. I was hoping to make Mother's Day special for my wife in light of the stay at home order. Since we couldn't dine out, it felt good to support one of our favorite establishments. In short, they were very unorganized in the carry out department. I was there at 6:00pm as scheduled. Got in a very long line servicing all the restaurants up and down Hale. I called when I was in line. When I called, the woman said that they would the bring food right out. I told them exactly where I was in line. In the interim I watched employees from a distance carrying bags of food out and back in again. If they were looking for me, they never walked down the line along Hale where I told them I was located. Even fast food places are more organized by asking about the color and make of car you're driving as well as give you a number. About 35 minutes later I called them again. I explained (as I did in my original call) that I was stuck in a very long line. They told me to pull up to the front of the restaurant. She should have told me that on the first call. I don't think they understood what was developing outside with traffic on Hale. They could have directed their patrons a little better. Not to mention the woman I spoke with seemed a little short and lacked follow up to my original call. I couldn't have been more clear on my location and the vehicle I was driving. At least, they could have called me back. There were cars waiting on both sides of the street with no room to pull off to the side and let traffic behind me pass. By 6:35 the waiter came out and called my name. It was unorganized and their system lacked common sense. I was there at 6:00, couldn't get close to the restaurant due to the line, my food probably sat for 35 minutes, the waiters didn't attempt to find me until I called again and finally got direction to pull up. I expected more from Ivy. Dick is a great guy but I feel this could have been better organized. Needless to say, we had cold ribs and fish when I returned home (in Wheaton). Food was so so and overpriced. $21 for a small piece of salmon that was cooked all the way through. Place was very noisy and still not full. Odd atmosphere with stained glass windows and cathedral ceilings. Ok, it's a historic landmark, but I expected Bach's Prelude and Fugue to burst out at any minute. Everything was very salty, you could see the salt glistening on the cooked veggies. Calamari was fresh and tender, but again, a bit salty. This place use to be great but not so much now...at least last night. My girlfriend and I wanted to grab a cpl apps and a drink or 2 after she got off work...like 8:45pm. We walk in and the staff is pretty much cleaning and not paying attention to us. They finally notice us and tell us it's last call for drinks and food...really, it's only 8:45pm. So we ask to be seated on the patio and to our surprise it's still busy and people are eating and drinking. We order a Rose`, an Old Fashioned and Calimari. Our server, don't know her name but a very funny/friendly 20 something blonde, was the best thing about our time there. The bartender gave the server a Chardonnay instead of a Rose` and my Old Fashioned was horribly made. On top of that our Calimari was cold when it came out and looked like a 1/2 order. The kicker is that our bill was $38.... $13 of it for an Old Fashioned. I can get one in the city, at Billy Sunday's, for $10 and it is a 100% better than what I got her for $13. Have been to Ivy a few times and I don't like writing a negative review for this place but it needs to be done. Was there with my wife a couple weeks ago and had an awful experience and will not be going back. We had an AmEx gift card that is taken anywhere AmEx is taken - which Ivy does take. When paying for the meal they wouldn't even try running the card and charged my discover in full without asking. When I brought this up I was treated like a second class citizen for trying to use the gift card. The hostess was extremely rude and after writing to them about it they didn't responded offering an apology. It wasn't a huge deal until the hostess was extremely rude. After not hearing back it's clear ivy feels like it can do whatever it what's and doesn't value its customers. I've never left a bad yelp review - first time for everything. We had our rehearsal dinner here two years ago and told friends about it. We will now be telling people to avoid and won't be going back. read more

We went to The Ivy last night for my dad's 65th birthday. This was our first time there and we picked it because we thought the menu looked awesome. We were not disappointed. We were a party of 8 and they sat us upstairs. We basically had our own private room because there were no other tables near us. Casey was our waiter and he was absolutely fantastic. He was attentive but also gave us a chance to enjoy our dinner and didn't rush us through the process. It was the simple things he did, like serving my dad first since it was his birthday, that I really appreciated. He recommended some appetizers, which we ordered. All of our food was fantastic. I got dressed up and he got a little dressy but when we arrived there were people there in shorts and sundresses, I was kind of disappointed. I'm so disappointed I have to give this review. I came here last Saturday with my family to celebrate my graduation. I had really been looking forward to dining here based off a recommendation and other Yelp reviews but the service couldn't have been much worse. The restaurant was almost completely empty and we were seated in the middle of the main dining area yet some how we were ignored for about 15mins till we waved someone down who then seemed reluctant and annoyed to have to serve us. The rest of the meal was the same we asked if things could be made gluten free(never found out), asked for for extra plates never got them etc. The food was pretty good besides a few small issues some things seemed a little off, for example, a member of my family ordered the ribeye but it didn't come with the glaze it was supposed to, it was really just the service that made the entire experience a real downer. read more

My husband and I took my parents to Ivy last Saturday. The venue was very nice and the service was good. BUT, the food was expensive, and most of it was very mediocre. My steak was dry and overdone--I requested medium. My potatoes were cold. My husband requested Medium rare steak, and his was well done. They did bring him another steak when he complained about it. First off let me begin by saying the interior is very beautiful as it's an old converted church so the setting is genuinely classy and romantic. The menu is moderately "foody" in what's being offered but unfortunately they dont pull it off in execution. The craft beer selection could also be better (not a single IPA, really?). We started with the Creole Blackened Shrimp which was excellent but it went downhill from there. Almond Crusted Brie-okay. I had the Lobster Parppadelle - where's the lobster it was all shrimp? and the flavor was also meh. My wife had the Cioppino which had a decent amount of mussels but almost no other seafood besides shrimp the broth itself was not great and just tasted of wine. Cauliflower Au-Gratin which was recommend by our server was - LAME! and I really like Cauliflower. Deserts were just as weak. My wife had the Chocolate Cake which was supposed to have a Hazelnut Frosting - where's the Hazelnut flavor? And I had the Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding.. Meh... nothing special. Service was good and food was prompt. We were rather disappointed but said a couple "Our Fathers" while we were there so that the trip wasnt a complete waste. read more
