Came here with the roommie the other night when we were both craving burgers and fries. Thanks to my fellow yelpers, I knew exactly where to go. We both ordered the ivy burger and garlic fries. The burger is as good as everyone says. It was literally just meat, cheese, some greens, and a slice of tomato. Simple. Classic. Delicious. I usually like lots of sauce and pickles on my burger, but this burger was so flavorful that it really didn't need anything else. Cooked perfectly and well seasoned. My only complaint is that I wish it had a heartier bun to hold up to the juicy burger; the bottom half of the bun started falling apart half way through my burger. The garlic fries were lacking flavor, which sounds impossible when I tell you that there was a mound of garlic on it. However, the garlic isn't slow cooked, so it doesn't have that sweet garlic flavor that I love. I love the garlic fries from Dodger Stadium in LA. If anyone knows of a comparable plate of garlic fries, please tell me! The Ivy's fries just didn't compare. Overall, really good! I'll definitely be back. read more

Nice little place. very good service. I liked my ivy burger with coleslaw and the regular and garlic fries. soup was good. I prefer fried pickles in chip form instead of spears but they were ok. I've been waiting to go here, and I'm so happy I finally made it. A small neighborhood bar where people go, not just to drink, but also to eat. That's what I love about the place. It's easy to get a draft beer, but it's not as easy to get a good meal to go with it, and at a reasonable price. I loved, loved the burger. Nice and moist and just the right size. Since it was my first time there, I knew I had to have the burger, but I do have to say that the other dishes coming out looked good too. What other bar can you say serves mussels? All this means is that I have to go back. Do be cautious that it gets pretty busy in there, especially on a friday night. This bar is great for me because its about 30 paces from my front door and they serve beer. Otherwise, I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. The menu and food was nothing to write home about, the server stopped by infrequently, and the Guinness tap system was broken last time I went (A huge disappointment to me at the time). They can seat no more than 30-35 people comfortably, which is nice when there's a small crowd but can be a pain when there's too many people around. The Ivy is located a few buildings before the infamous Seven Stars Bakery and I guess if you live in the area, stop in and give it a try. If you're lucky, you'll have a better experience than I did. read more

I remember reading an article about the demise of the neighborhood bar in america, and this place is example #1 (east ave cafe is #2) about how it does still exist. This is a place where regular and occasionals (which I am) are welcomed for a drink and to watch the game. The service is always friendly and prompt. The drink selection is good. In addition, the food is the real surprise as it is tasty and interesting. I have tried everything from the fish n chips to the chicken sandwich to the burger, and while it is not french laundry, it delivers what it intends to do (quick, tasty, pub fare). Ivy Tavern is my guy's first choice when we end up plan-less with an empty fridge-safe to say we eat here once a week! We've tried every sandwich on the menu-they're enormous, piled high, creative and yummy. The garlic fries and cole slaw are perfect sides. Friendly bartenders and staff here with an open kitchen to watch your food in production. I love Ivy's intimate size, as we've had great chats with other patrons too. This unfortunately is not a review on the bibimbap, which everyone seems to rave about, despite Ivy Tavern being a pub. Instead, this is a pleasantly surprising review on the overall ambiance, the friendly staff and the services. I came here with a few friends to share a few drinks after work. I tried one beer (keep in mind, I'm a scotch guy) and I was so not into the beer that I just left it aside, barely sipped. The waiter had noticed this as he was walking by, and gave me another type of beer free of charge. Of course, my friends happily gulped down my beer, but I thought that was very nice of the establishment. The overall vibe is fairly generic, which isn't bad or good, but I really don't remember many details. Next time, I'll try the bibimbap! read more

Ivy Tavern is the epitome of what I consider to be "the best place on the block." Unassuming in its exterior nature, i found out that it has much to offer than any other pub that i had been to. If you're looking for a good drink and a real good burger on top of that, then this place is your cup of tea. The bartender is real good guy, and if you need any advice on anything (i mean anything) he is the closest person to yoda in town. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! I'm not a sports fan but it doesn't matter because this place is so good and easygoing. Not once has the cook, bartender or server or all three greeted us within a minute or two of us walking through the door if there is a wait or said goodbye as we are leaving. You immediately feel like they are glad you stopped by and are going to make every effort to make you happy. I cannot rave enough about so many different things on their menu. The garlic fries are excellent and never too greasy (they're fries so that means some grease). The fish and chips are fantastic (I don't know what fish is that big but I am happy it was and that someone thought to make it a meal on top of fries). If you have any inclination for mussles...GET THEM. They are so good and the broth is excellent, especially with the garlic bread. If they have Gorgonzola tortellini on the menu do not pass it up. It is worth your time and you will have two more meals out of it. Their menu has something for most people including those out there with aversions to meat (I don't get that but I know my proclivity for meat is not for everyone either) which are very good as well. I cannot say enough good things about Ivy Tavern. I really want to give it five stars but held off because I just don't know if this is as good as it gets. But it does come really close. read more

As fellow Yelpers have noted: very dive-y... In a really good way! The food is consistent and good, portions are huge (especially for the price!) The service is always friendly, almost like you are at someone's home- and prompt. I've been a few times when 'something' hasn't been working: the oven, the tap (no drafts)- but they are up front and honest about the problem, and quickly tell you what they CAN do. I agree that the garlic fries are great, and I liked my fish sandwich BUT because the fish was on the thin side it was a tad dry so I had to wash it down with beer to make it a bit more palatable. I have been to Ivy Tavern several times and the one word I would use to describe it is "reliable." They never fail to serve food that is ok. Their garlic fries - above average. Burgers - above average. Bimibop - average. Beer selection - decent. There's nothing here that's making me jump out of my seat or crave Ivy Tavern, but they always produce fairly consistent food. The restaurant itself is pretty small, so if there's one table ahead of you, there's a good chance you'll be waiting for 20 minutes on a Friday night. Other days of the week, you should be fine. Again, it's just slightly above average, so it should't be too packed. read more

I'll keep this one short and sweet since there are plenty of other reviews. I don't understand why no one talks about the mussels. They are simply the best in RI. Period. I agree with others... the $6 burger on Mondays is a contender for best burger... certainly for the price (also try Andreas for a pleasant surprise). Other sandwiches are pretty big and satisfying too. Avoid the pasta sauce and you'll be fine with the rest of the traditional menu. The only things keeping me from giving the 5th star is the tired ambiance, cold draft from the door all winter long, and that weird attempt at Korean fusion. I love Korean food but this is not the place for it and the recipes are non-traditional and Americanized but not is a particularly good way. I understand that the new owner is Korean, but it's just weird to serve that kind of food in a beer, burger and sports joint. Better yet, give us just the old Ivy menu and try doing more specials and when we have an urge for Korean food we'll go to Sura or Sun and Moon. read more

Love this place! We went a week ago. I had bibimbap. I have never had it before. It was a pleasant surprise that this being a tavern would have a superb Korean dish. So I couldn't wait to go back. My husband had the salmon sandwich the first time and that was excellent as well. Second visit a few nights ago and I had to order the bibimbap again. But first we had oysters on the half shell. I could have eaten a hundred of them. They were huge and delectable. My husband had the fish sandwich and garlic fries. The fish sandwich has bacon on it so ask for it without bacon if you don't want it. The fish sandwich was great and the garlic fries.....well let's just say I cannot wait to go back there again. We usually go right after work so we manage to get a seat at the bar. I hear it gets pretty packed later in the evening. It's great to find a new restaurant that is so good. Check it out! read more

Bim Bim Bap, Korean Wings and 1/2 Off Burgers Monday nights :) Oysters have always been fresh and tasty, Chili is solid and fish and chips are done right ie not too much batter not too much grease.. Good selection of booze and beer. If you are day drinking go see Amy she can handle it. Service is fast and friendly. The IVY is no secret on Hope St. and it can get get busy at night. Oh, yes. Ivy Tavern, my favorite place to eat in Providence. The place itself is great! The environment is always good! I've always left satisfied. Even though it's on the East Side of Providence, which is widely known as the mecca of obnoxious hipster scum, there is none of that at the Ivy. So far, no hipsters at the Ivy. People there are cordial and polite. The menu is unique for a "pub." Their onion rings are great, but the main attraction that you have to go for is the Ivy Burger. It's the best burger I've had in my miserable, boring life. Juicy and delicious with a toasted bun with a garlicky spread underneath the bun. I recommend this place for burger enthusiasts. read more

This is a friendly, low-key spot to get some pub food. You aren't coming here for the atmosphere, you are coming for the food. We started with the seafood chowder and it was OK. Not the best I've ever had, but good. I had the turkey kincade sandwich, which is basically a turkey reuben and it was really good......but not as good as the garlic fries that came with in. Man, those are good. I still dream about them. My husband had the bibimbap and he stated he could pretty much eat that every day for the rest of his life. Two fans here. We'll be back. read more

Ah, the Ivy. I haven't felt qualified to write a review of this gem, because I've only ever had ciders there; however, after my last visit I can safely say that "Yay! I'm a fan." First, the ambiance. It's a small, cozy tavern, decorated with local sports memorabilia and lots of woody things. I dig! Despite being pretty small, I've never had to wait for a table here, and I usually head there with several friends. They have a great selection of beers, though I always opt for cider. As far as I know, they have Magner's and Downeast, the latter of which is my favorite, though I'm also a fan of Magner's. On my last visit, I saw a few Caesar Salads delivered to a nearby table, and was suddenly struck with a craving that required instant gratification. I ordered a small salad, which to my delight was on the larger side of small, and laden with anchovies. I am a huge fan of anchovies, so I was happy to find that if I cut them up into small pieces, I could enjoy a bite of the tiny fish with each bite of salad. Yum! I think I might head back to the Ivy just to get another one of these delicious salads. I've never had a burger here, but according to just about everyone, they are some of the best burgers in town. Top off all of that goodness with fast and friendly service and clean restrooms, and you've got yourself a solid four-star bar!
