Tried their curbside pickup option recently and it was rather disappointing. Of all the curbside pickups that we've done from surrounding restaurants (Houston's, Capital Grille, Seasons 52), this was the worst. First of all, there are no clear directions in the front of the restaurant. So it's confusing as to where the pickup location is or what number to call. Other restaurants have big banners with the phone number out front. Eventually when we found the pickup spot, it's way in the back near the dumpsters. Not the ideal place to be waiting for your food. You get views of employees smoking and the trash bins. The people who answer the phone when you call to confirm that you're here for pickup also aren't well trained for curbside orders. They asked for the last name in the order about 3 times. And finally when someone did come out to the car she was like "Oh, did you call?!" Uh... yes? Lastly, it took forever to get the food. We were a few minutes late for. 5:45pm pickup, and you'd think that the extra time would have meant it would surely be ready, yet it still took 20 minutes waiting in the car to get them to come out with the food. So while the food here is good, if you want a smooth curbside pickup experience, look elsewhere. read more

First time in a restaurant in several months. The experience was definitely amazing. Will be happy when the economy opens up fully. The restaurant is on the other have 25% occupancy come inside. They were clearly following that rule however there was no one waiting outside to come in. So this all worked out quite well. Our waiter was very happy to be at work. He told us he had been off work for several months because of the coronavirus. The fried calamari, grilled brussels sprouts, and spinach queso were delicious. Three of the best appetizers for sure. We all order the filet mignon for lunch. It was served with wild mushrooms and mashed potatoes. He was well worth the money. Celebration we had a sour apple martini which was really good. I particularly love this restaurant because their bottled water is Fiji, my favorite. It was a wonderful experience to go back out to a restaurant. My parents and I dined in Saturday, Aug 30. This is a favorite of theirs. It was only about the third time I had dined in. I ordered the Steak Tacos. They were absolutely delicious. The seasoning was great and it was somewhat salty. I love salt, which made this right up my alley. They offer sourdough bread while you wait and it is delicious! Jennifer was our server and she was absolutely wonderful. Dad got the wrong salad but Jennifer realized the kitchen mix-up right away and brought a replacement in three minutes. She was on top of drink refills as well. The only thing I would like to see is more in the "burgers, sandwiches, and small plates" section of the menu. They offer a cheeseburger and veggie burger. J Alexander's if it has one thing it is consistency. Our food, service were both excellent. Armend was terrific. The prime rib sandwich is the bomb. The chocolate cake is to die for. The whipped cream accompanying the cake was the best i have ever had in a restaurant. The only off-putting experience was when we were taken to a table and we asked if we could be seated one table up. The hostess called out to the desk and they said no. Wierd. Wanted a restaurant with good food and a nice cozy vibe to celebrate our anniversary so my wife and I chose J. Alexander's. At a time when many restaurants have fallen off, J. Alexander delivered. We were a few minutes late for our reservation but we were still seated within 10 minutes of arriving. Our server James was great. He was very nice and didn't rush us to make decisions, gave good suggestions for food and drinks, plus he was always accessible but not overbearing. We shared a Ceasar salad for an appetizer. I got the Ribeye Steak and my wife got the New York Strip. The NY Strip was perfect, they top it with butter once it comes out. My Ribeye steak was overcooked, but they happily and quickly made me another to my satisfaction. The kitchen manager even brought it out to be sure I was happy with it. First Class service ! BTW my suggestion is to go with the NY Strip. The Ribeye is marinated and comes with a glaze that I wasn't crazy about but maybe it's for you. Mashed potato's were good and the Mac and cheese is a favorite side, for good reason, thumbs up on that. Even tried the Key Lime Pie and the Chocolate Cake with ice cream for dessert. I wasn't expecting much from this chain restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved that their cocktail menu is creative and beyond the standard off the shelf items. We have been there for dinner several times and always enjoyed the artichokes and ribs. Our sides are usually Cole slaw and fries. My husband wasn't feeling well last night but we still wanted to enjoy their food. We ordered from delivery dudes and were extremely disappointed. The portion sizes were not even close to what they serve in the restaurant. The artichokes were the smallest I have ever been served and one wasn't even fully cooked and tough. The ribs were not full racks and the fries were so salty we couldn't eat them. We will never order delivery from there again. So so disappointing for a restaurant we use to love and frequent. read more

I am updating my review from a prior 5 star to a 2 star because the hostesses are very rude. When placing a carry out online, the website will not allow you to make notes or modifications if you have diet restrictions so you have to call after you place the order to have a staff member add the notation. No matter how simple the request, they either hang up on you or say no we can't. The GM has told me previously they should not be turning me down on a notation and agrees the online ordering system needs to be better. Since then I have had to text the gm twice asking for him to speak to the girls up front after they refused to add the modification to my order. The carry outs have been very bad compared to when we first started coming here 6 months ago. It's like night and day. I really hope they improve because we hardly frequent J's anymore because of the rude Service. read more

We're big J. Alexander fans! In fact, we go here for dinner once a week lately. The food is consistently good and the bar/restaurant scene can't be beat. There's always a busy/cool vibe - so fun! We've basically had everything on the menu at least once and unlike most places we go to, everything is really good. The reason for the review is because we went here last night. The service is always good. Like the food, the service is also very consistent. You never wait long for anything you order and the food comes out timely and piping hot (or cold if you go with a salad). There was something different about our server last night, Nicole. We've never seen her before so maybe she's new but her attention to detail (and I mean every detail - from wiping down the table between the app and dinner, to delivering the food/drinks to our table) she went above and beyond the good service we usually receive. Came in for lunch with my mother took a while to get greeted by one of the 6 girls at the host stand while the rest continued their private conversation. Server was great very attentive but the food was subpar. Smoked salmon still had huge chunks of fish and was very bland and the steak was drenched in butter, no seasoning, looked grey, and was a very fatty cut. Drinks were also pretty disappointing. We always have a great dining experience when we come to J. Alexander's. Tonight was not expected at all for us. It was 3 of us at the table and was greeted couple minutes after we sat. Wife ordered Aperol Spritz and the Avocado Bomb to start the meal and Pork Chop and the BBQ Ribs for entree. When the Aperol Spritz and the appetizer arrive she took a sip of her spritz and made a face so I asked what was wrong. She said that this wasn't what she ordered. So I took a sip and it tasted kind of weird for me too, taste was off. So we ordered another one and watched the bartender make the drink, he used Campari, white wine and soda water. So we asked the server what she order for us. She replied with Campari Spritz, it's what they have and it's the exact same thing. I have no idea who informed her that Aperol and Campari is the exact same? Campari might have bought Aperol into their company but it doesn't make them the same! Aperol has a different note on the palate and less alcohol content than Campari. What we didn't like about this situation is that if the establishment doesn't carry or offer what we ordered please inform the guests that the particular item that was order isn't available and let the guest know of a similar item available, don't just order it and say it's "what we have and it's the exactly the same thing". Also Aperol Spritz is Aperol, Sparkling Wine and Splash of soda NOT white wine and Soda! At this point the entrees have arrived and we weren't really in the mood for the meal anymore but we were really hungry! So we ordered 2 sparkling Wines and finished the meal and paid. And during the whole time we were there no management touched up on the tables. I guess they only stop by and talked to the table they know and are friends with. Was driving around the boca area and ran into this gem, reminded me a lot of hillstone restaurant in Miami it's very similar I would say. I had the French dip and it was delicious, meat was well cooked, bread was soft and seasoning was perfect, the hamburger was also very delicious. The mac & cheese really sealed the deal for me, it was cheesy and crunchy on the top simply mouth watering, finished with the chocolate cake that was outstanding had the right amount of sweetness. I really enjoyed my dining experience staff is on top of everything and they provided quick service with quality over everything. will definitely be back to visit! read more

Ate in a J Alexander's years ago in Deerfield, Illinois. Certainly wasn't anything special, so when I received a gift certifcate to one in Boca Raton, I didn't even use it for a year. To my very pleasant surprise, we walked into a lovely atmosphere and with a reservation, were seated immediately in a more quiet part of the restaurant. A server came immediately for our drink selection which gave us plenty of time to pick an item from the menu. Though it was a drop higher priced than I expected, the Brasserie Steak was so much better than any I've had, even in France and friends had the spectacular french dip. I agree that the menu is limited but everything that we had was delicious, served hot, fresh and very well prepared. The wait staff was terrific, too. We will be back often. read more

Wow.....Last night did not go well.. I don't know what happened but everything was..not good? Usually J Alex is good. I only like certain menu items. My drink took forever to come out.. as well as my salad. I wanted blackened fish taco's just like my mom and they gave me fried. We both asked for the mayo sauce on the side not on the tacos. They put the sauce on the tacos and the side. I asked for lemons, and my mom asked for extra avocado for her tacos... both were forgotten and had to ask for them again. The tacos were so tasteless..... I did not send the fried fish back because didn't want to waste the food. Was not impressed. There was no flavor........ So sad. I am going to stick to the food I know they make well..... so upsetting. read more

Boca can be tricky on a staurday night. Hungry patrons all dining and enjoying the nice evening. I ventured out after 8 pm to be safe and to make sure I missed the dinner rush hour. With several restaurants to choose from I ended up at J Alexanders. Thats a great choice in my opinion. Its warm wood interior and dim lighting is something I like while dining but there was about a 45 min wait for inside dining so I chose outdoor and was seated promptly. Im watching what I eat and decided upon the grilled artichokes which were 2 chokes split and fire roasted with a drawn butter drizzled on them and also a dill remoulade sauce. To say the artichokes were delicious well they were outstanding. Roasted perfectly and seasoned just right! I ate 3 out of the 4 halves. I wasnt feeling beefy or fishy tonight although their selections were very good I chose the Alex Salad and added 3 fire grilled seasoned shrimp as my protein. The salad was fresh with mixed greens, chopped tomatoes, bacon, shredded cheese and croutons. I had the blue cheese dressing. It filled me up but didnt make me feel stuffed or uncomfortable. I saw the delicious chocolate bunt cake dessert but like I said no sweets for me right now so I passed on dessert. I have been here many years ago when I lived in Boca and was glad I returned for a nice dinner in the 561! IF you are in the plaza just east of I 95 and choose J Alexanders you wont be disappointed! I was invited to this spot for a business lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and service. The staff are all working together and very attentive . The wine list is extensive and the menu is as well. I was happy with the quality and quantity of the menu. I had the Hawaiian ribeye which was perfectly seasoned and cooked with a side of green beans and broccoli. The steak was cooked perfectly which can be difficult to do. The Vegetables were seasoned and cooked perfectly as well. I was very happy with the service as they made sure that our glasses were never empty and our food was perfect. What a great day here. Wish there was one closer to my area. If I am in Boca I will be certain to come back for another wonderful time. read more

I first fell in love with J's in Tampa, and was so pleased to find one nearby when we moved to Boca! The "not your ordinary mac n cheese" is my FAVORITE. If they had nothing else on their menu I would still come back just for the Mac!! Lol.. but they have many other delicious menu items. The avocado bomb is another one of our favorites! The salmon does not disappoint, the Hyde park chicken sandwich is a great option for a lighter meal (I order without the bun!), and the Thai Kai salad is a solid option as well! Overall we really enjoy visiting for the delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. If anything, if you like Mac n cheese, you have to visit to try J. Alexander's!! read more
