Went here for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. It's a bit darker and noisy, but not overbearing. It's also hidden back behind a little strip mall near Sonodas and Wahoos. The service really was good and professional looking as none of us ever needed to ask for drink refills. Plates were cleared away in a speedy manner, and a request that went against the standards was able to be accommodated by our server. The food was quite good. I had some grilled salmon and wild rice. The salmon was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. My only complaint would be the prices. Sure this is a bit more of a high-scale place, but I expected a bit better portion of salmon for $16. Nonetheless, this is a very good restaurant when you want to drop a bit of ching. (or better yet get treated to lunch on business) read more

Five stars for J Alexander's. I've been eating here for nearly 10 years. We would have business lunches here before I moved to Colorado and now have regular family dinners. The food, drink, and service are exceptional and consistent. They mix a lovely martini and you get the 'extra' on the side making the price very affordable. It's really good food made perfectly. My son loves the calamari and it might be the best calamari I've had in Colorado. The pork loin dinner was huge and easily can feed two (same with the steak burger). They also make a decent steak too. The carrot cake is worth taking home (don't forget to warm it up). This place is outstanding! I always request to eat here when I come visit my mom in Colorado. Is it a bit pricey? Yes, but it's delicious and in my opinion better than most other restaurants that charge similar prices. The service is also impeccable. Last night my mother and I ordered the Grilled Artichokes, the Thai Kai Salad, the French Dip Sandwich, a side of Fries and the Carrot Cake. Our server Heather was very attentive without being overbearing or obnoxious and trying too hard. She had a very sweet disposition. The salad was delicious and huge! My French Dip Sandwich was the BEST I've ever had! I don't think I've ever seen grilled Artichokes on a menu before. They are to die for and they are REAL grilled, not grilled on a grill pan on top of a regular stove. They will cook the Prime Rib meat on the sandwich to your liking. It was juicy, moist and ultra flavorful. The aus jus was delectable and the baguette it was served on was perfectly crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. Their French Fries and Mac n Cheese are also dynamite! We were so full that we ordered a piece of their Carrot Cake to take home and it was the BEST Carrot Cake I've ever had in a restaurant. We went here last night for our 1 year anniversary and it was amazing. First we were seated right away (with a reservation). Then we started with some fire roasted artichokes which were out of this world. Next we had dinner. I got the baby back rib with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Everything was very yummy. I thought the rib they gave me had very good flavor but seemed to be a bit of a fatty cut. Still good. Next the restaurant served us complimentary champagne and dessert for our anniversary. We got the carrot cake. Both were also very yummy. All in all it was a very good evening! Make a reservation and when you do, tell them about the special occasion you are celebrating. Shame this is such a localized establishment; meaning, I'd love to see it come to the east coast. Walking in, you are hit in the face with the aroma of ribs, roasted chicken, steak, and whatever else they have on the grill. Cozy and intimate atmosphere, as the lights are dim, the booths are large, and there is dark wood everywhere. Food, service, and value were terrific. I'm really glad we came here to eat last night. First of all, the service was impeccable. We consistently had people checking on us at just the right amount of intervals - we never felt intruded upon or annoyed - just well taken-care of. I ordered the crab cakes, and my companion ordered the roasted chicken. Both were superb. The mashed potatoes were lacking in character, but the fries were wonderful. We ordered a side of broccoli, which had been "gussied up" with parmesan and butter and was perfectly cooked. The bread, despite being fresh from the oven, would be better complemented by a butter with more character - it was a bit bland - my guess is that it's a whipped and (basically) unsalted butter. Overall, we were impressed with the service, and the flavor was truly wonderful. We look forward to our next trip here. read more

I think they need to add a little bit more variety and try to make a reservation because they were busy at 6pm when we came to eat. My fiance had fish tacos and I had prime rib and mashed potatoes. 2 iced teas and creme brulee for dessert. I think it was $60-70. We had a great experience and yummy food. Went to lunch today ( 10/26) at about 12:30pm. No one was waiting and was told that it would take 15-20 minutes because they were busy. No problem. 4 additional groups walked in and the lady taking information for seating seated the 2nd group and shortly after seated the 4th group which consisted of 2 people. neither had reservations but were put in front of us. it was total crap as she gave a bunch of excuses and we left because of the total rudeness and disregard of positions. We have dined at this chain before but the traditional J. Alexander's. We were disappointed. The filet mignon I had was not seasoned properly and although cooked medium the char on it tasted super burned and the meat was not super tender. My husband had the fish tacos and either the slaw on top or the fish upset his stomach. The calamari was ok but how can you mess that up. Waitress was friendly and attentive. I love this place. I keep forgetting to review them though. This is a chain, but you really would not know it. The names are different in the different cities. In Houston, were I first enjoyed their food, they are called Houston's. Always get the Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese frosting. It is the best I have ever had. Brought to the table warm, it simply melts in your mouth. The cream cheese and cake just run together in a gooey slimy goodness that keeps you coming back. The portion seems to disappear in a matter of minutes. The service is always the best. Very attentive and friendly. On our last visit I had the Blue Cheese encrusted steak. It was a special and not always on the menu. Plenty of blue cheese slightly darkened over the grill. The steak was a perfect medium rare. You get a little blue cheese flavor with the steak in every bite. My wife had the pork tenderloin with a nice glaze. I believe it was some kind of honey chipotle. A great balance of sweet and spicy. The pork was pink in the center and melts in your mouth. Usually we get bread with out meal, this time we did not. I did not see any come out so they either stopped serving it with dinner or they were out. Not a big deal, though a little something to nibble on before dinner is nice. We stop in here a couple of times a year. It is always worth the trip. read more

Just discovered this restaurant today, and am sure am glad I did! Was sat immediately, as the service was just as good as the food. I had the smoked salmon dip and the teriyaki salmon roll as an appetizer, both were absolutely amazing. For the main, I got the prime rib sandwich, and it is exactly what it said, a decent sized cut of delicious prime rib, between some pretty tasty bread. The prime rib was among the best I have ever eaten, perfect temp, wood fired flavor, it was pretty epic. Will definitely return, and highly recommend. read more

My hubby and I joined our 2 friends at this restaurant for a Xmas Eve celebration. I was really sick that night too and didn't feel like eating, but went anyway since I had been dying to try it. The food was EXCELLENT. My girlfriend and I LOVE, LOVE Mac N Cheese and this restaurant delivers a fantastic one!! We had awesome wine, our waiter was attentive and the desserts were phenomenal. Went here for my sisters BDay & cant wait to go back. Most everything is a-la-cart but its worth it. Heres what we had 1. Prime rib- YUM! swiched to brocoli instead of mashed potatos 2. Ahi Tuna- killer!!!! 3. Prim Rim sandwich- Fries & garlic bread were amazing. 4. Burger- Best in Colorado so far. My family and I have eaten here many times but the other night, I took my boss from Texas and we had a wonderful meal. We started with the calamari and it was pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but not bad for Denver. My wife ordered the crab cakes and an Alex chopped salad. It disappeared. My son loves the prime rib (and so do I) and he had a Cesar salad with the 12 oz prime rib. The little porker got all of it down his pie hole. My boss had the tenderloin special and he seemed to enjoy it while I tried something different. I had the pork loin with a side of broccoli. I also had the Alex's chopped salad to begin with. We really like this place and I often meet with clients for lunch because the burgers are fabulous. This place is one of my favorites int he south Denver area. read more

I haven't been to J Alexanders in over 5 years. Met a colleague for lunch on a busy Friday. Food: Ordered the steak burger. With fries. Shoestring fries are great! Burger was eminently mediocre. Cheese was barely melted. For $13 or $14 I expect better than meh. Service was OK although did have to request an ice tea refill twice. Place was busy for lunch. They've been here forever. But there are better places for lunch in the Park Meadows area. read more

We came in on progressive date night and this was our soup and salad stop. We just wanted to sit in the bar and waited for about 20 minutes before a spot became available (that's just what happens when a restaurant is as good as j's) while I was standing in the bar area scouting every single bartender came up to me asking if I wanted anything to drink or needed help with anything, wow! They were so busy with every single other person there and still noticed me! Beau ordered a beer and me a martini (love the side cars!) we also got an Alex's salad and a bowl of chicken pasta soup. Still a good restaurant where you can get a tasty meal, but it has declined slightly in the past couple of years. We went there today for Easter lunch, and while we had a good experience, I noticed a couple of things that could have been better. My wife had the pork loin which comes with mashed potatoes. They serve the mashed potatoes with a pad of butter on top. The potatoes were warm, but they weren't hot enough to melt the butter that was on top of them. I had the prime rib which was tender and flavorful, but it came with the same mashed potatoes that were warm, but not hot. I miss the old "smashed potatoes" that were served made from skin-on leftover baked potatoes. I ordered iced tea, but there was only one packet of sugar at my table. I had to request more, and it was promptly provided. There was plenty of fake sugar, but I only like the real stuff. Dessert was quite good. The key lime pie was the special today. It was house-made, slightly tart, and sweet enough to match the tartness. It tasted more like lemon than lime to me, but the crust and the texture of the pie was excellent. My wife had the carrot cake which is always excellent, but seemed especially dark today. Overall, our service was pretty good, and we were promptly seated. Lunch with appetizer and dessert was $140 with tip for our table of four. J Alexander's is still quite good, but it's no longer a five-star Yelp review for me. If I'm looking for a place to go for a celebration, I think I might go one step up to Elway's instead. read more

These guys are bombproof. Everytime. We eat here at least once a week and we have never had a bad meal here. Steak is always tasty and solid, seafood is excellent, and service is always solid. Came here the other night for dinner. We were feeling like 6 year olds and were in the mood for Mac N' Cheese and chicken fingers. This was anything but kids menu cooking though. The Mac N' Cheese and chicken fingers were some of the best I've had....anywhere....ever. Great ambiance, quiet enough to talk, great service. Headline: Order your burger medium rare for a change! J Alexanders is a chain steakhouse restaurant, with this location being just outside Park Meadows. It's everything you would expect it to be - dark woods, subdued lighting, expensive pricing. We went in for lunch. I ordered the bacon and swiss burger with fries. My wife ordered something from the specials list - Ferdinand sandwich. My burger was really good, with in-house ground meats, you can order medium rare for completely different texture and taste to your burger. The addition of horseradish sauce makes up for the lack of taste in the swiss cheese. The burger comes with the usual lettuce, tomato and red onion rings. I ordered fries. The fries are more shoestring fries - they were piled high, and went cold almost immediately. They also lacked seasoning. My wife's sandwich - a combination of shaved prime rib and ham with mustard, served on a toasted baguette - had a side of brown gravy. Both sandwich and gravy were good, but the fries had the same problem as mine - cold, pasty and in dire need of seasoning. I ordered the house coffee - very disappointing. I'd skip the coffee next time and go to a decent coffee shop (of which there are a number in the area). Overall, this was a good meal. They need to fix their fries, but that's about it. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Denver metro area. At first glance the menu it doesn't look like anything extraordinary but I've been blown away multiple times by the amazing flavors here. The service has always been fantastic. There is usually a wait in the evenings but you can make reservations. We have come here with a large party of 12 and we were all served in a very timely manner and the server did a great job. Things to try: The Martinis are super strong and they give you a leftover container kept on ice. The Queso is amazing. Spinach in it gives it a unique awesome flavor. Prime Rib is fantastic. Danish Baby Back ribs. This is quite possibly my favorite main course from here. Not so ordinary Mac N Cheese - BEST Mac N Cheese I've ever had. Although the kids in our party didn't like the macaroni and cheese. I think it's because they use gruyere and other more "grown up" cheeses. I think it's to die for. The prices are about the same as a decent steakhouse. Most plates were around $25-35. In my opinion totally worth it. read more

Personally, I really love salads and they have a fantastic grilled chicken salad that is a meal all in its own. I know, I know, it's a steakhouse, what am I doing. But trust me, if you run in for lunch, you'll be set for the rest of the day. They also have a prime rib french dip that is astronomically good and for the current moment the best in town. If you like a more authentic french dip, make sure to tell them no horseradish. As for dinner, their prime rib is wonderful. Worth every penny and with a nice glass of red wine you probably won't need to eat breakfast the next day. Which reminds me, if you order the large prime rib, you can take half of it home and have it for breakfast the next day. ;) I'm a bourbon \ whisky person and they have quite a few custom drinks that focus on them. If you enjoy whisky as much as I do, you'll really like their various custom drinks on their special menu. As for their dessert, their creme' brulee is really good. Fresh strawberries, blackberries, and a twig of mint on top it is well worth it for you and a friend, or maybe all just for YOURSELF! read more

Wonderfully attentive service in the bar from Audrey who was knowledgeable about the wine and entrees. Appetizer of tuna & salmon nigiri was very fresh. My husband and I decided on the nightly specials ~ halibut with couscous and filet kebob with vegetables. We were very pleased with both choices! All food & drinks were delivered in a timely fashion. When we mentioned celebrating our anniversary, the carrot cake was brought to us on the house. Wow! Moist and delicious dessert to enjoy later at home. Our first visit will not be our last. I went here for lunch today with my husband and MIL and I must say, we were VERY underwhelmed! My husband got the Thai salad and my MIL and I both got the Redlands Salad. I ordered mine without ranch sub white wine vinegar and it came tossed in ranch. My husband said his salad was just ok. But the kicker..... my MIL found a hair in her salad!!! Upon telling our server she immediately had the salad remade, which was great and much appreciated! But it was still just subpar. We used to enjoy J. Alexander's but probably won't be returning anytime soon to spend $50+ on three salads. read more
