Fresh like it was raw and delivered today, not fresh like fried in the last 15 mins. When everything is coated, covered, and competing, nothing actually stands out. The drinks didn't help either. They leaned hard on alcohol without much flavor behind them--more "this will get you there" than "this tastes good." Nothing was terrible. But nothing made me want another bite, either. And with seafood, that's kind of the whole point. The atmosphere is friendly, great music, and the service was very attentive. Even the presentation wasn't bad. It just wasn't enough. But at some point, you stop asking what's missing and just accept that it's not landing. I was still hungry so I went next door hoping for a better experience. I want to be clear: It's not bad. It's just not working.

Almost seemed like an injustice for it to be served with ketchup as it was too good for it. Lastly, the tart was a great way to end the meal without it being too much. Loved the crust. The tart shell tasted really good and went well with the filling, which had a lighter consistency than pudding. Fruits tasted like they were on season, even though it should be a bit too late for strawberries. I'm also a sucker for meringue. The drinks took quite a while to arrive, and when they did, they were noticeably watered down. I politely mentioned it to our server, who quickly took them back and brought replacements, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the second round was nearly identical to the first. When I brought it up again, instead of acknowledging the feedback, the server responded by saying it was "just not a sugary drink." That completely missed the point. I wasn't expecting a sweet cocktail--I was pointing out that the drinks tasted diluted and poorly made. What bothered me most wasn't the drinks themselves, but how the feedback was handled. I wasn't looking for free drinks or trying to be difficult. I was simply offering honest feedback, and it felt like my opinion was being dismissed rather than heard. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. We ordered several dishes to get a good sense of the menu, and most were overwhelmingly salty. The salt overpowered any other flavors to the point that we couldn't finish some of the dishes. The sushi was the best thing we had, but even that lacked the presentation and quality I would expect at this price point. To be fair, the manager did remove the drinks from our bill as a courtesy, and I appreciate that gesture. However, by that point the damage had already been done. A resolution is only effective when guests feel heard and respected throughout the process. Instead, I felt like I had to defend my opinion and justify my feedback before anyone took it seriously. At the end of the day, a restaurant can be trendy, crowded, and beautifully designed, but none of that matters if the food and service don't deliver. Balboa Surf Club has the atmosphere and location, but in my experience it falls short where it matters most. Overall, I'm glad I finally tried it because I had always been curious, but now I know I won't be back and cannot recommend it. If you're looking for a similar concept, I'd recommend Hudson House. The atmosphere is comparable, but the drinks are consistently well-made, the food is much better, and the service has always been far superior.

For our mains, we got the cheeseburger and redfish. My husband does not love seafood, but he devoured the redfish. It was flaky, buttery, with lots of crab. The burger was ok -- it reminded me of an elevated Big Mac. It was not a bad burger, but it wasn't that melty, gooey, buttery number some of us love. Get the lemon meringue. She is zesty, she is thick, she is tall. My husband, toddler, and I shared it and were stuffed. Balboa is a place I would take someone who likes seafood and good vibes.

Overall, I'll probably be back during crawfish season especially because it's more convenient for me than the Bellaire location, but the Bellaire location has it beat for general atmosphere after the remodeling and much better options for mixes there.

i am up at 2 am with an upset stomach from the meal i just paid almost $100.00 for my dad and i. i used to work at your overland park kansas location back in the late 90s and the food is not quality like i remember and tastes old expired and the ribs were all bone and hardly any meat. for $33 plus tax fees and tip plus i paid $20 tip to have a girl deliver it, i paid almost $100 yesterday and im not happy with the quality of the food. 1- the baked potato that came as side for bony ribs was hard, not warm and i had to cook all over again the next day. there was hardly and butter bacon cheese and sour cream for it, so i have to add what i have at home for that too! i am disabled from a car accident and unable to cook had a terrible week and wanted to treat myself and the carrot cake i've loved is too sweet, i could barely eat it! i only took 2 bites! photos are also taken for my google maps review, im top 10 percent steakhouse restaurant reviewer and have millions of views on social media. the mac and cheese was bland and hard, not appetizing and i added garlic onion powder salt pepper and butter to make it palatable and still didnt finish it. the smoked salmon dip is disgusting, nothing like the houstons/hillstone smoked salmon which i love and i am dissapointed. i made an anchovy sauce to try to eat it but the salmon isnt fresh and i dont want to be food poisoned. i know with take out sometimes the restaurant gives you subpar food they wouodnt serve you dining in person. i want a full refund of my $71.00 i paid yesterday and i want extra $20 for the tip i had to pay to have it delibered since youre not on uber eats or doordash. a $100 refund or gift certificate to come in and eat is the only resolution. this review and photos will also be posted on google, yel0 and pissed consumer. very dissapointed, i did more cooking and prepping than shoukd have been done and thats not the purpose of ordering take out. read more

Some people may think King Ranch is too fancy or expensive because it's near the Galleria, but don't let that stop you from trying it. Prices depend on what you order, just like any other steakhouse. The restaurant has a rustic ranch-style atmosphere, and anyone familiar with the Ford King Ranch edition will recognize the signature branding throughout. It wasn't busy when we arrived, and we were seated right away. I started with an Old Fashioned made with Woodford Reserve, complete with a hint of orange, bitters, and two Luxardo cherries. It was perfect. For an appetizer, we ordered the smoked brisket queso with chips. The brisket wasn't overly smoky and paired nicely with the queso, pico de gallo, and cilantro. The real standout, though, was the chips. They had a flavorful seasoning that took them to the next level. For his entrée, my husband ordered The Plate, which includes your choice of two or three meats along with slaw, onions, pickles, 7-Spice fries, and cowboy beans. He chose smoked turkey, smoked chicken, and sausage. The turkey and chicken were well-seasoned, juicy, and not overly smoky. The sausage had a great peppery flavor, and the cowboy beans were loaded with brisket, adding even more richness. The fries were delicious, but if you're not a fan of coleslaw touching them, ask for it on the side. As for me, I ordered the Tomahawk on the Block Ribeye, cooked medium rare, with grilled asparagus, chimichurri, and grilled mushrooms. Yes, I know I said I wanted a simple steak for lunch, but this was my version of simple. The tomahawk was cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and full of rich beef flavor. It practically melted in my mouth. It didn't need steak sauce, but the chimichurri and grilled mushrooms were the perfect complement. They were so good that I ended up ordering another side. If you've been hesitant to try King Ranch, don't be. It's a great choice for lunch, dinner, celebrations, or simply when you're craving an excellent steak.

It was cooked just how I liked it, medium rare, where it's still pink and tender but not bloody. It was a fantastic presentation, and the truffle fries were a great side. The semi-solid whipped butter for the bread is now butter soup. Who is approving this packaging? A much more professional response would have been, "I'm sorry about that. We'll replace it." That would have been the end of the matter. Instead, a minor and completely understandable kitchen mistake became an uncomfortable interaction because of the way it was handled. Food mistakes happen. I don't expect perfection. But I do expect to be treated respectfully rather than patronized and argued with over something as simple as cilantro.
