Went to J Alexander in ATL and they mentioned Merus Grill is their sister company. Me and the wife tried it for lunch. She loves Houston's (Hillstone) and it seems to be cut from that umbrella. Menu was very similar to Houston's and J Alexander. We both had the baby back ribs with macaroni and baked potatoes. Also spinach dip. The bbq sauce was decent. And the food was ok but not the same quality as Houston's or J Alexander. I will drive the extra 7min and go to Houston's next time. read more

Leo, the manager is phenomenal. We came on a Saturday night but since they are newly open, it was really empty and our food actually took a while to come out and our steak came out really under cooked despite the long wait. The way Leo handled the situation speaks volumes not only about management but the level of service you will receive here. My boyfriend took me here for valentines day and our experience was INCREDIBLE. The restaurant is tucked in the back of Uptown Park and is definitely one of the hidden gems in the galleria area. immediately as you walk in you can feel the amazing ambience of the restaurant. Our server Kevin was fantastic since it was our first time he directed us to some great menu items. we had the prime rib and crab cakes which were both amazing. what really wrapped up our night was the carrot cake which is a must get if you go! overall the service was some of the we've ever had and will definitely be back. 10/10 read more

Great new addition to uptown area. In the old Arturo's space. As other reviewers said it has the feel of a Houston's restaurant knockoff but that's ok. We had the artichoke appetizer which was great and I had the Thai salad for dinner which was huge and delicious. Wife had the crab cakes and liked this as well as a side of fries which were cut thin like at Houston's and thus great. Guests had a cheeseburger and the salmon and liked both. Only negative is the entree price Point seems on the high end. I would steer away from the $30+ entrees to a salad or appies or split an entree. Wines by the glass were good and reasonably priced. Wow! This place has been open for 8 days and it hit the ground running! The service was impeccable and the food was definitely worth coming back for. We had the deviled eggs and cheese board to start with. For the main course, we had the prime ribs, New York strip, snapper with crispy shrimp, and the steak burger. Ordered the rotisserie salad and a cheeseburger to go. Both were left out on a table (not in the kitchen where the cheeseburger could be kept warm). Cheeseburger was fairly cold and french fries were soggy. No ketchup was left in the to go bag. Salad was HORRIBLE. The chicken in it was SO SALTY. I literally had to dig around the chicken to avoid it because every bite was oversalted if I got even the tiniest amount of chicken in it. Will not be ordering from here again unless I go dine-in and can send it back. Awful to go food. read more

They are not vegetarian friendly at all, and zero items on the menu for vegans. Every salad has meat, yeah you can request no meat but you are still paying for it. There is a veggie burger; but if you are watching sugar or carbs it's a diabetes bomb. Bread, beets, rice, beans, French fries.... Our server was nice enough to ask if management would allow a simple veggie plate to be made. Answer was No. I would have had to order 24 dollars worth of full sized sides (6.00 each), and be stuck with a ton of leftovers I did not want. We got grilled artichokes that were so burnt they should have not left the line much less hit the table. Thankfully our actual server took them back in exchange for spinach queso. It was bland and watery and comes with no salsa just a little pico. Since there wasn't much else for me, we split fries and left after finishing a bottle of Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc which was actually reasonably priced at 52.00 I believe. read more

A friend of mine found this restaurant as it is part of J. Alexanders. It was hard to find, but the atmosphere was great, so was the waitstaff. I ordered the Prime Rib with Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli. I also got bread, salad, and Creme Brulee. The meal was extraordinary except for the Broccoli which had a vinegary taste. I mentioned it to my friend and said it was either spoiled or had an odd dressing on it. I was right about the spoiled as I had indigestion problems starting when I woke up the following morning until last night - a week later. I can't figure out how they got that one dish so badly when everything else was so great. It may be a while before I attempt them again - if ever. read more

Ordered drinks and very slow service and both were incorrect. When will restaurants learn to remove the seeds from the jalapeño ??? Waiter stated the Redfish jalapeño sauce wasn't very spicy but when the seeds aren't removed that is not the case!!! Caesar salad needs some help. Ribs and fries were great. There is a nice ambiance as you walk into this restaurant in Uptown. The cocktails we absolutely amazing and refreshing...and the wait staff did a wonderful job at being accommodating to our large party. But I can't brag so much about the food..it was definitely missing something on everyone's dish. I would also say, if you are a party of 6 or more and are wanting to sit together this is not the spot for you. Went for dinner. Ordered a salad, prime rib with baked potato. Alex was our server and he was great! Food has great flavor. Only issue was that when the salad came, it was covered with carrots. The menu makes no mention of carrots. Also, the extra melted butter that was brought out for the baked potato had a strange taste. Some seasoning that changed the whole taste of the potato. The prime rib was great and Alex made sure we had a great dining experience despite a couple issues. Beautiful interior. Can't wait to go back! read more

Probably the closest restaurants to Houston's and maybe even a little better. A friend recommended this place to us, and it was a lovely experience. If I could give this place 5+ stars, I would. I came here for the first time with a group of ladies from work to celebrate Administrative Professional's Day not knowing what to expect and it did NOT disappoint! I was searching for somewhere close by the office but with good reviews and somewhere we had never been and everything from the service to the dessert was amazing. Our waiter was friendly and quick. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. The desserts and coffee were amazing and we couldn't stop talking about how much we were enjoying ourselves while we sipped our coffee! I immediately texted my husband and told him that we HAD to come back there together for dinner and drinks one day soon and once I sent him a picture of my pork chop and raved about the experience, he quickly agreed. We will definitely be back and will be recommending this place to friends (and anyone else who will listen). After my 6th visit, I will return to the classier "tried and true" establishments in Houston who listen to their clientele. The bar area has continuously been too warm. EACH visit, the staff are perspiring and agree that the atmosphere is stuffy and warm. And I had called, prior to our visit during HRW, to see if the HRW menu had particular hours, as I know the menu at Merus Grill is the same day or night. The receptionist "assured" me as she clearly stated "Our menu doesn't change", so HRW is offered anytime day or night". We arrived and ordered cocktails as we were celebrating "a big event". When we (3 persons) asked about the HRW menu just before 4:00 p.m., we were told "No, that is only during lunchtime." I asked for the General manager, Will Reiser. He was not only rude and offensive, but also extremely arrogant and left us abruptly with a "No, it is only for lunchtime". Being a native Houstonian, I am well aware of the competitive nature of the restaurant business in our fine city. This restaurant may offer quality food, but a continuing staff turnover, rude management and a stuffy atmosphere when there are 3 digit temperatures outside, I will suggest that you consider the other fine dining establishments who actually listen to the requests of their personnel and customers. read more
