A perfect dinner with perfect service! My 2 oldest have birthdays 2 days apart and they chose to eat here for the celebration. Made dinner reservations over the phone 2 weeks in advance. We got to the restaurant and was seated in a semi circle booth in the corner (this elevated the experience in my opinion). Our waitress (Sydney), was incredible!!! From our drink order to knowledge of the menu, to her promptness in serving the food and and bringing out cake for their birthday, man!!! She really made our first experience here a memorable one! I cannot begin to describe how good their food is. Came with a big party for lunch Thursday around 12:30pm there were 9 of us we were seated at two booths with an extra chair on one. Service was kinda slow but expected when they are busy. Server was very friendly. I ordered the cilantro shrimp. It came with brown rice (which was some of my favorite I've had anywhere, it was the butter!) and Cole slaw but I got the broccoli instead, their broccoli is the best with the seasoning!) the shrimp were flavored nicely, not too spicy, and big too! Just disappointed. I guess I have been spoiled in years previous but the prices go up and the service and quality deceases. Empty glasses, orders wrong and corrections delivered to the wrong table. (Shocker for both tables). Informed of the issue AFTER the order was cooked again and everyone else at the table was finished. Quality of meat was a 2 on a 10. I really wish I wasn't on here having to leave a negative comment but DARN IT...I didn't go for the "free dessert". Went for the wine that was "out" after the first round. I went for a great piece of prime rib, a fantastic salad, without old brown lettuce and missing toppings. I had the pleasure(or was it) of dining at J Alexander's in Jacksonville, Florida. Diners beware if you order the bayou seafood pasta. After reading the description of what was in store, my mouth began to water. Unfortunately, it was a complete disappointment. While I was waiting for the dish to be placed in front of me, all I could think about was succulent scallops and shrimp in a Cajun creme sauce. Sounds great? It was atrocious!! All I could see was a bowl of linguini and the smallest of shrimp. I searched for the scallops. I finally found one, which was smaller than a peanut and without any taste. The sauce was extremely bland too. This dish was a bust. The only enjoyment I got was sending it back. I decided to go the safe route and I ordered a hamburger, medium. By the time I received it my family had finished their meals and I decided to bring it home. What could go wrong with something as simple as a hamburger? With my first bite I saw it was more than well done. I tried to eat it, but I gave up. One other thing. The bun was so large that it was ridiculous. Who needs all those extra empty calories. It wasn't even a good bun. I called the manager to express my disappointment. He was apologetic and refunded my money for the burger. It was the least he could do. He said he was aware that I sent back the pasta dish and tried to rush the burger. That didn't work. He also told me that the pasta dish was very popular. I found that hard to belIeve. I suggested that he rethink some of the items on the menu and maybe get a cook who really knows how to cook. All I can say is that I won't be returning. read more

This was a favorite of ours for years. It was never as expensive and fancy as Capital grill but it was always a step above a neighborhood restaurant and even a longhorn or outback. This last time I was put off by two things: A) the menu is very limited. 3 steaks, 2 shrimp dishes and a couple of fish options. B) the prices are now much closer to the capital grill type of steakhouse, siting at around $40 for a steak. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice. The onion rings were very good as well as the chocolate cake. The steak (New York strip) was good but I c wouldn't pay $40 for it again, even though it was perfectly cooked. It was more of a $25 type quality to me. Overall it was a solid meal but the price was significantly higher for the quality of the product. read more

Not Friendly to Pet Owners - Disappointed and Won't Be Back I'm incredibly disappointed with the experience we had at J. Alexander's today. On a sweltering 95°F day, we were hoping to enjoy a relaxing lunch--like we had in the past--on the shaded patio area with our well-behaved dog. Last time we came, we were seated without any issue and had a wonderful experience. Sadly, that was not the case today. When we asked to sit outside again, the hostess was immediately dismissive and borderline rude. She said "absolutely not" before even checking with anyone, and only after we pushed did she reluctantly say she had to "check with the manager." She came back and said it still wasn't possible, and offered a strange explanation--that maybe last time there were "fewer people," but this time there were more. That made no sense to us, especially since we could clearly see the same number of tables occupied in the exact same area where we sat before. The patio was far from full, and there was more than enough space to keep our dog cool and out of the way. It felt like an excuse, and the dismissive attitude made the situation worse. We left feeling unwelcome and honestly upset. We used to love this place, but this experience completely changed our opinion. If you're a pet owner looking to enjoy an outdoor meal--especially in Florida heat--don't waste your time here. There are plenty of restaurants that treat their guests with kindness and consistency. Came here for lunch and sat in their dog-friendly patio area where they're able to open the windows on a nice day. The staff were all so friendly with my dog Cazzo and provided him with a bowl of water. We ordered the steak burger and prime rib French dip sandwich. The steak burger, which was a tenderloin and ribeye combination, was cooked to my requested medium and was very juicy. You can definitely tell that they grind their meat in-house because it was so tender and didn't have any gumminess that you can have with preformed patties. The flavor of the burger was great and it was topped with cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and some Kiawah island dressing (their version of thousand island). It really allowed the meat quality to shine. The prime rib dip was also excellent and was packed with tender meat and the baguette held together nicely when dipped into the au jus. Their mac and cheese which we got as a side was creamy with a nice crispy panko topping. It was a fantastic lunch and I can't wait to return for dinner! read more

My wife and I come here often and it should be noted that Friday night was an exceptional visit mainly due to Victoria. What a splendid personality she had. Very professional demeanor yet still genuinely warm and inviting. Victoria is an ace! There was as well a relatively minor incident with a semi-dirty drinking glass that was taken care of quickly and cordially as possible. Those sorts of things happen unfortunately every now and then at any restaurant but the way the staff handled it was A+. We'll definitely be back again. All staff encountered were genuinely pleasant. The greeters/hostess staff were right on point with greeting and welcoming my wife and I as we came in. That always gets high marks in my book! The entrees and appetizer were fantastic as well! Which is always the case at this establishment. Incidentally it should be noted as well that not only were all of the staff encountered very pleasant to interact with (especially Victoria!), but all staff were also very well dressed. All professional with a real sense of style that gelled very well with the decor of the restaurant as well. Thank you all for a fantastic dining experience! My son and I have made this our go-to weekend spot for over a year now, and it never disappoints. The service is definitely 5 star! B Two weeks ago when we were there, as soon as we sat down, our server Makayla greeted us with our regularly ordered drinks. I ate here on 9/22 and reserved a table for a birthday dinner. The process of reserving a table was very easy. I was quite pleased that the site gave the option for any dietary restrictions. Once we got there, we were seated promptly, and everyone was so nice and helpful. My party was served by Bailey and she was very kind and sweet. The service was very prompt and professional. I had the crab cakes and onion rings, but I went straight into eating that I didn't get a photo. The crab cakes were AMAZING and it's mostly crab in the crab cake which it should be like. We both drank water and had the Mexican spinach queso appetizer it tasted good at the time and then for his entrée, he had the cheeseburger and I had the filet mignon. Solid experience at a Town Center staple. Going off memory, this has to be one of the original "better quality" restaurants to have graced our Town Center. Top notch service with a subtle ambience. They seem to have a dimly lit area along side an area that is a little brighter. You can't go wrong with either and they have a full bar. We began with a smoke salmon dip appetizer for the table which was well executed. A good balance of filler with a substantial portion of smoke salmon served with crispy bruschetta. Around the table we had the (bang bang) pork loin, ahi tuna filet, and I personally opted for the fish sandwich. My wife and son were quite happy with their meals and I have to say this was one of the better fish sandwiches I've ever had. If I have one critique, the sandwich was served with lettuce and pickle chips - no sauce. I did try the fish as is and it was very good but after getting some remoulade (closest thing they had to tartar sauce), it definitely leveled up the meal. We also shared a side of their famous mac and cheese because you simply can't come to J. Alexander's without having their mac - its a must have - and I believe gruyère is the main cheese used.
