This was our first a dinner out for 2022. I was given a great gift for my secret Santa. A gift card to J.Alexander's. The drinks were on point, we ordered a bottle of Riesling's Wine , we enjoyed it. They have a great bar, and drink Selections. I ordered a salad, which was great, for me that's is where the enjoyment stopped. I ordered fish tacos for my entree, it was lack luster, broccoli was good, the Mac and cheese was soupy. My wife did enjoy her fish though. I wish I had taken pictures of the dishes. We came here after a very special event to celebrate and the food definitely topped off the night. I ordered the NY strip steak which was excellent! The max n cheese it came with was very decadent! My husband ordered the cilantro shrimp and his plate had many many big shrimp with rice and cole slaw. He liked his as well. Took my husband out for a date night early Father's Day dinner. Made reservations and arrived early, they sat us right away. The night was on point from beginning to end. Drinks were flavorful, artichoke we had for an appetizer was a little more work than most people like but well worth it. We both had the caesar salad and I could not get enough of that dressing. My husband ordered the prime rib and said it cut like butter and he savored every bite. I had the baked chicken and it was perfect as well. Stuffed was an understatement but somehow we were able to share a slice of key lime pie with fresh made whipped cream. Here my experience: hi, do you have Chopin Vodka...yes... slightly dirty martini up with bleu cheese olives... yes sir! And a beautiful martini with excess in a small carafe on ice shows up. Prime rib rare... yes What size do you offer? 12 or 16 oz or anything bigger if you wish... may I get a baked potato with all toppings instead of mashed or broccoli... yes sir... do you have horseradish... yes no problem, raw or sauce... Then a beautiful cut of rare prime rib shows up with a beautifully topped baked potato, a large offering of horseradish sauce, and a large amount of au jus. A nice big steak knife was delivered with the dish served within 5 minutes. Absolutely delicious! I have known for years they have an incredible filet steak. First time going with the prime rib which was outstanding. Even though they are not a "steakhouse ", they very well compete with any steakhouse in town. My first time eating at J. Alexanders. The wife and I, along with 2 other couples decided to eat here for a dinner birthday outing.   Stepping inside the restaurant details an intimate setting coupled with some dim lighting, which calls for you know what..... Boom-Chica-Chow-Chow. You probably thought I was gonna say something else huh? =)   Looking at the menu, the Steak Maui kept calling my name, so that's what I ordered. And as a group, we also ordered the Fire Grilled Artichokes, Calamari and the Salmon Dip for starters as well as the Fudge Cake and Key Lime Pie to share amongst ourselves.   First off, the Fire-Grilled Artichokes. This dish should come with instructions. Better yet, our waiter should instruct us how to eat these things....you know, like Flight Attendants showing you how to buckle up and prepare before a flight. I almost ArtiCHOKED (no pun intended).  I wasn't aware that the correct way of eating these is by pulling the soft pulpy section of each artichoke petal with your teeth. Instead, I felt like a Stegosaurus Dinosaur eating these things, wondering if my teeth will ever break down of what I felt like eating coconut husks. Lessons learned here.   Now on to my Steak Maui. I ordered Med Rare. Steak I received was Medium. I ate it anyways because I was hangry. The steaking was surfing with great flavors. What a delicious steak. I could have eaten another one to be honest with you.. but my Stegosaurus jaw was already tired from an earlier chewing session (hint hint).   All in all, the other Starters and Desserts were on point, along with the on-the-house complimentary Birthday Cake given, capped the spectacular night. So me and my boyfriend LOVED the steals we had the best meals we've ever had. I got the steak and fries but changed the fries to the rice and beans and when i tell you that was awesome? It was. I got the midnight something drink and my boyfriend got the ginger drink and the strongest best drink ever also. The lighting was beautiful. I usually get well done steak but i got medium well and it was too much pink for me because im weird. Lol i asked them to leave it on longer they gave me a WHOLE new plate and it was well done! I like this place. I had mixed feelings on my first visit so I wanted to wait to visit again before posting a review. On both occasions we had good service. The waiters were attentive and accommodating for our parties - six people on the first visit and nine on the second. Both times, we were seated in the back of the restaurant at a large table, which allowed us to be away from the crowds and to be able to chat. On my first visit, I got the steak burger, which was made with ground beef tenderloin and ribeye, topped with cheddar cheese and grilled onions. This sounded really good but when I bit into it, it was over cooked, dry, and lacking in flavor. I thought that the regular, old-fashioned cheeseburger was far better. I like their skinny fries and the portion is large. I tried their popular macaroni and cheese and to me, it also suffered from a lack of seasoning. Dessert here was something I was looking forward to. The chocolate cake and the carrot cake were excellent. Both were so rich and decadent, perfect for sharing or taking home. This is definitely not the J. Alexander's of my youth. At dinner here the other night, a friend and I were reminiscing about when they had the glazed croissants years ago, which was always my main reason for wanting to visit. I guess with rebranding and a menu revamp, they sadly got taken off of the menu. I like this "new" J. Alexander's for group events but it kinda just runs in the middle of the road for me in terms of food. Others that I've dined with have enjoyed the seafood pasta, steak, crab cakes, and prime rib. A group of us met here for dinner. We were seated right away and waitress came over for drinks. The cocktails took quite a bit of time but because of this, they were comped which was a good business practice! We didn't order any appetizers but they had a variety of starters. The wine list was quite extensive and had special cocktails. My husband said his Caesar salad was very good. I ordered the cilantro shrimp with broccoli. My husband had Steaks Brazzo which was on a special menu. We got our meals out in a nice time and nice presentation. My shrimp were on top of beautiful display of rice. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and so tasty. The broccoli was Al dente which is how I like it. My husband said his specialty dish was excellent. Cooked to perfection. He opted for the chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert which came out steamed and smelled amazing. He said it was moist and complemented the meal. I would have given 5 stars, but due to the care in the restrooms, I had to go with 4. It had not been taken care of and one of the toilets was clogged. This restaurant is by far one of my favorites in Jacksonville. It's at the end of the St. John's Town Center so the vibe is really nice. There's plenty of parking but they do have their moments where their parking lots are pretty filled but don't fret- you will find one. The area is near Capital Grille and True Food Kitchen. Therefore the company of restaurants is also upscale. This spot is a perfect for a date night, or friends just wanting to hang out and have a great meal. Don't get me wrong you can also bring the family but it's definitely an adult vibe. The ambience has a club feel and once you come on in - you can take the shades off because it's really dark. The staff is very sweet and professional. They are doing a great job of social distancing. Bathrooms are clean and every staff member is wearing masks and gloves. Now I am only posting picture of what I had the last time I was there. However I will talk about what I have had on other occasions. The steak burger is so juicy, I can literally have it everyday. It's ground sirloin and rib eye steak in one burger. The rack of ribs has a small kick but it's finger licking great. The Mr. Jack chicken platter is my sons favorite. My wife is not a fan of the breading but I love it. The tenders is a huge dish. It comes with lots of fries and Cole slaw. It's absolutely delicious. The cilantro shrimp is so yummy!!! I can't tell you how phenomenal that dish is- along with their rice pilaf. I don't even like that style of rice and I love that one. There's a couple more dishes we have had but I'll leave it here. On this particular night we started with a tower of onions rings and the spinach queso. They are both so delicious, and honestly a bit addictive. The queso is so creamy. But on this night I came for the big boys!! I ordered their Maui Rib Eye Steak!! One of the best 14oz steaks anyone can ever ask for ($38). I chose their not so ordinary Mac n Cheese (which is a must side dish order, it will change your life. My friends had the filet and they had nothing but wonderful things to say about the whole experience. However to top everything off, I ordered a carrot cake. OMG!! If you don't like carrot cake you might want to change your mind. It's so moist, hot and flavorful! Order that!! But the chocolate cake with their vanilla ice cream is to die for too. My wife & I both ordered the Prime rib sandwich and both were excellent the prime rib was cooked perfectly to our medium rare specifications ,I had the beans & rice as a side and it was very good. They require masks to enter and I saw the hostess wipe down tables and chairs very well. 5/5 recommend. The veggie burger is so good...it has like a sweet smoky glaze and the pickles taste like they were made in house. Shoe strings fries that are perfectly cooked and salted. The other 3 ladies I was with also enjoyed their food. This restaurant has been here quite a while, I think since the town center first opened, with so many restaurant choices so close together you have to be doing something right to last....J Alexander's proved that to us when we ate here! Me and John stopped in for dinner and one of the things that really blew me away was how great the service was! As a former server I really appreciated how sweet all the servers were, everything came out fast and with a genuine smile! Now to the food! Steakhouses aren't usually my top pick for dining out, but they offer a few other choices, the one that we loved was the fire roasted artichokes! I don't know any other restaurants around that does this dish and it was soooo delicious!! I definitely recommend trying this, we both loved it! We shared a salad and a burger also and neither one of us had any complaints, I actually left like dang that was a perfect dinner! Have been here a couple of times now and I love this elegant restaurant! Great steaks and very attentive service. Enjoyed Wednesday night dining when they have $5 martinis. Had "The Duke" martini and it was as perfect as it sounds, classic and so pretty. The extra olives make it even better. Their calamari appetizer is very good and the marinara sauce is lightly spicy. The steaks are just as good you would expect at a high end place like this, and the Mac & cheese side is a perfect accompaniment. Such a nice spot for a dinner date! There's a variety of dishes and they all sound delicious. I always get the Thai Kai salad (not pictured), but decided to try something new this time. The salad is super fresh and it's a huge portion. The fish tacos came with a jalapeño sauce and it was an absolute flavor bomb. You can never go wrong with tacos! The grilled artichokes were pricey, and probably won't order again, but they were yummy with the sauce it came with. If you want to try J. I absolutely love J Alexander's!! There are so many wonderful food selections to choose from. I normally do the ahi tuna salad, which is heaven!!, but I decided to try something new. I'm so glad I did! I had the mahi tacos, with the salsa. 3 perfect tacos with a nice salsa blend and avocado. The mahi was fresh and seasoned very nicely! I didn't snap a pic because I was too busy eating! Sorry not sorry though, these tacos were delish! We finished with the carrot cakes which is served warm with a cream cheese gooey frosting.
