The menu does not match the entree. The sushi all have onions. The menu does not include onions for some of the rolls and the bartender she stated does not have scallions. I'm allergic to onions and scallions. The salads are all garnished with scallions. Going to a restaurant you should have the menu match the meal you are getting. I was the only one without food. How long can it take to remake a salad. Also the plate was ice called. Although you put in the refrigerator does the plate need to feel like ice. I couldn't even eat my food. read more

Went to dinner Friday night expecting to wait a while for a table however we were able to be seated within 20 minutes. WIN! However we jad to wait 10 minutes before a server came over to take our order. We were so hungry we went ahead and placed our dinner order with our drink order. Drinks came out then our dinner. We ordered soup but never got it. The waitress finally came to the table after receiving our food and we let her know that our soup didn't made it. Had to ask for water again, that I did receive. The waitress disappeared again and didn't show back up until we were finished. I would have loved another glass of wine but I was ready to leave. The noise level was unbearable. Basically had to raise our voice to hear each other. Never experienced such bad service nor the noise level at J Alexanders before. Definitely won't be going back, for a while. read more

STEAK ROLLS GALORE Menu Prices It's good food, just pay for it! Limited Menu Options for Starters- me and my wife have been several times now and actually have opted to order steak rolls and drinks. If you are in NC why not offer some sort of barbecue or brisket? They do have ribs however they are overpriced and are simply not worth it. Lastly in regards to the beverages. We throughly enjoyed their adult beverages. By far the best martinis we've had in the triangle HANDS DOWN. My only issue is that they should offer a wider variety of fruity drinks. My wife had a hard time deciding on what she wanted for a libation. Atmosphere - Love the ambience of the place. When you walk in it feels as if you stepped a Los Angeles in regards to its design, and far from southern decor. Service - We always receive top notch service. Our only issue is when they happen to run out of Steak Rolls. We've been twice and this has happened. This is truly what kept them from getting 5 stars in combination with the limited options for beverages. I know, I know, I try to frequent NON-Chain restaurants but I know from one other pretty great experience & food at this particular place, I wanted a kick-ass salad and I knew this place would hit the spot. I was right. Again, I have only had the salads here and have now had 3, all fantastic portions & fresh ingredients. The rare seared tuna salad was wonderful as was the Thai peanut salad. The place is really dark inside but lovely to look at. Very crowded and loud but it was nice to see so many people our enjoying themselves despite the "covid-climate" right now. So not sure how this is only 2 dollar signs when the average cost per item is well over 20 dollars. Ordered the "steak" rolls which looked like the frozen foods from Costco kind of ground beef deep fried rolls. Chilli (soup of the day was watery and literally had a half jalapeno on it, so good luck regulating spice. NY strip hardly had any sear marks and tasted like a chewy cowhide. Keep in mind this $40 dollar steak is subpar compared to Outback steakhouse let alone a real steakhouse (Sullivans, Flemmings, etc.). This brings me to the "filet mignon" which resembled more of sirloin cut into a filet shape. The meat was chewy, not tender in the slightest (which is LITERALLY the biggest selling point of this prime cut of meat), and was unevenly cooked (temp was right, just exterior looked like Frankenstein where they obviously forgot about it at one point). The fish of the day ( striped bass) wasnt terrible, but once again not something I would expect from $30+ given that it tasted rubbery as if literally cooked from frozen packaging instead of "market" fresh. Lastly drinks were abysmal, watered down and completely distasteful: a mojito that tasted like sugar water with chunks of mint, an old fashioned that was literally doused with bitters and a champagne drink that was flatter than tap water. The waitress was nice but forgot multiple times to follow up on questions and check in periodically. To end on a positive note, the shoestring fries were good, and the decor was nice but not much else. Will NOT be coming back, and completely disappointed in the utter SCAM that this business represents with the garbage food for the premium price. read more

I went here for a few of my friends birthdays. I read the reviews before actually coming and I was excited to try it out. I ordered the brasserie chicken with mashed potatoes. I had high expectations because of the reviews but it was nothing special. I don't mind paying a little more for my food if it's worth it and I'm not sure it was or not. The chicken was crispy, not dry, a little sour, but a lemon sauce was mentioned on the menu and it wasn't overbearing. I was surprised to received such a large portion. My friends seemed to think it was alright, not the best but still good. They ordered steaks, burgers, and dessert. The slice of key lime pie that was brought out was pretty big and my friend said it was probably one of the best he's had. Reservations were made so we did not have to wait on a Friday night and have enough room for a birthday "party." The service was very attentive; my glass was almost always full which says a lot because I drink a lot of water. I was surprised to see a personal birthday card from the staff and manager but there was no singing or free dessert for the birthday gal and guy. The atmosphere was dark but had a nice ambiance to it with the candles and everything. It was something different, I was surprised to never hear about it, especially since it was so close to Crabtree. It was also nice having hooks right by to hang coats or your leftovers while you have dessert, or if you're feeling risky a handbag. Overall I enjoyed the experience and the food was good. She was always honest and professional in her recommendations based on our specific requests. Even though the restaurant appeared very busy she always projected a positive attitude that made not only our table but other guests feel important. We were recently in the area attending a basketball game. The place was just a short drive from our hotel, so we decided to give it a shot..... We were extremely happy with our choice. Everyone at our table got something different and everyone left happy. I got the ribs and they were both tender and moist. The only reason that I didn't give this place 5 stars is that it was difficult to find and once we found it, awkward to get too. With so many permanent structures around, I don't know if this can be helped, but they should definitely look into making it more accessible. Had an early lunch here today. My impression walking away was meh, but I'll probably give it another try. With one exception, the food was disappointing. I had the Ahi Tuna and I thought it was over cooked and dry. The seasonal vegetables were asparagus and peppers. The asparagus was served blanched and chilled and topped with egg white? I didn't get it, it looked like maybe a goat cheese when they brought it. The pepper was ok, but overall it was about half a pepper sauteed. My wife's Croque Monsuier (Croque Madame special without the egg) and her fries were way too salty. Perhaps that's our fault for not getting a steak, but that early in the day it wasn't what I wanted. The carrot cake dessert is out of this world. It's a dark spice cake made with carrots, cream cheese icing, very moist and absolutely delicious. The key lime pie and chocolate cake with ice cream are good too, but only good. The carrot cake is out of this world good. The restaurant decorations are beautiful and the carrot cake is a must. They probably make really good steaks, but what we had were misses. This was disappointing. One star each for the service, atmosphere and dessert. Cannot say much for the food and doing everything else well is meaningless if the food is no good. We came here for our anniversary and it was good. We've been to several steak places in the area and have our favorites but we were not disappointed. They have a great variety of options on their menu for sure and the drink menu was good too. We had Moscow mules and they were great! The prime rib was good but could've used a bit more seasoning or flavor. The loaded baked potato was huge and excellent! The picture does not show just how big it is. For dessert we had the chocolate cake which did not let us down. The ambiance is very nice for a date night or friendly gathering and it's in a good location. Been to J Alexander's multiple times. Their food is over priced and just ok. - Alex salad was fine but the ranch dressing had some weird sweet flavor to it which ruined the salad. Like they mixed thousand island with ranch. - California roll - it's not a sushi restaurant, enough said. - Steak burger had some weird sweet relish which I thought detracted from the food. The meat was good though. - Steak and fries - the steak had no flavor. Something has changed, it used to be pretty good at least at other locations. Fries are still good. - Carrot cake was a 4 out of 5. It's big, can easily feed 2-3 if you like to share. Service was average but a little slow at times. read more

We order the French dip and this chicken meal. Ok the baked potato is salt rubbed which makes a huge difference! That thing was amazing. The French dip had great bread and sauce but the meat was ok. In the last 2 months I've visited J Alexander's 4 times. The first time the service was not good at all but the second time we had the same wait person and they did a great job, possibly a new hire. The third our wait person also did great and this past Sunday we had a truly excellent experience. The food has been fabulous with the portions very generous. This was our first experience with J Alexander and it was really good. The service is really good and our waitress was very friendly and responsive. My son and I ordered the NY Strip with Mac and cheese and both were delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly , very juicy and great grilling on the outside. The Mac and cheese is baked with a perfect crust on top and a great tasting white cheddar very much done. My wife had the filet Kabob. She is super picky with sauces and she wasn't crazy about the sauce,however my son and I tried it and loved it so that was on her not the food. We started with a shrimp appetizer that was great, and served with a cocktail sauce and another white based sauce that was really good. Did not get a picture of that. We also got the chocolate cake desert that was amazing. My son and I attacked that too fast to get a picture. It is a fudge cake served perfectly warm with chocolate drizzle and vanilla ice cream. The cake is a very moist huge section of bundt cake, if you love chocolate this is your choice. They had other dessert options that sounded amazing but we are chocolate people! We will go back, and if you have not been this is a nice date night option and great atmosphere. It is a bit on the pricier side but in my opinion still worth it. read more

It was anout 4pm and so there was no wait and we were seated right away. Once we were seated our waiter approached us and took our drink order. Same for coming back to take our dinner order. I chose the grilled chicken sandwich but didn't want the fries. Waiter suggested some alternatives and I chose the red potatoes. My husband chose the sliced ribeye with a baked potato. His food was as ordered but sandwich came with fries. It went downhill after. The waiter did not check on us to see how the food was and by the time he did I was almost done eating. I wanted him to know that my order was wrong. Even if the kitchen was wrong he should have noticed that especially since he brought the food out. He said he could go and get the red potatoes but why would i even want them at that point. After bringing our food he was not attentive and we spent alot of time looking to see if was anywhere nearby. I was willing to overlook these issues. The shock was seing that the drink, single bar scotch was $14. That I did not expect. Way overpriced. Unfortunately Google needs to update their information because they list the closing time as 11 pm so we made reservations for 9:15 only to find out they close at 10. The service was really good. Waiters were attentive and constantly checked in to make sure everything was ok. Ordered a pear martini which came with a small decanter which is a plus if you buy drinks at the bar. For $13 it felt like I had 3 drinks. Food came out quickly and everything was cooked to our liking. We order steak medium well with no pink and it was cooked to perfection and not dried out. We ended up leaving the restaurant close to 11 pm but we were not rushed to leave. Our waitress even came back to make sure we were still doing ok even after we paid the ticket and were just sitting talking. One word: Wow! I was slightly worried being that this is technically a chain but it does not project that feeling at all. The interior is very classy, I felt underdressed in just a polo and shorts but there was a mix of attires inside and it was also a warm night. We were seated without a reservation (post-'rona, many tables blocked off and reduced seating capacity). I started with the Capone cocktail and the spinach queso appetizer. Very good, not overly spicy and a great consistency. Fresh chips! The entrees came out right on time - my 10oz filet was seasoned beautifully and was cooked to absolute perfection, I'd rate this as the third best filet I've ever had. The bearnaise was just as good, and the mashed potatoes were mashed well with some chunks left over - not whipped. Just the way I like it! After a stellar meal I just had to have dessert. The chocolate cake didn't stand a chance. I'll definitely be looking to try other J. Alexander's locations! read more
