Cod fillet and bok choy with rice plate leftovers after lunch
    Jennifer T.

I came with my dad and aunt for lunch for the first time since my aunt lives across the street. It looks like a basement inside that turned into a restaurant. No frills but very homey. It's cash only, but price is good. The lady is very friendly and talkative with excellent service and gave us complimentary tea. She told us a lot of her travel stories after I asked her about the camel pic in Cantonese. We ordered beef chow fun, and a cod fillet and bok choy rice plate to share for three people. They use disposable plates and utensils, and served the food in takeout boxes. The food was good and yummy even though presentation isn't the best. She gave us fortune cookies at the end. I would've prefer ceramic rice bowls and chopsticks but they're an elderly couple family business and only the 2 of them working. They were up front and said they mainly do takeout business even though they have restaurant tables and chairs and did a lot more business before the pandemic. I would come back again since I enjoyed her service and company!

Nice flavor and good portion. Cute elderly couple owner were talkative, especially if you break out Canto with them.

Was craving Chinese food around my area. Decided to give this place a try. It did not disappoint. Fast service as well. Cash only. (Left to right: Sweet and sour pork, Mongolian beef over rice, shrimp fried rice)

So happy they are still open during this challenging time. The couple was always so friendly when we dined in and they recognized us when we called in our first order. We have ordered every week, Black bean beef chow fun and pork fried rice for the past few months. The chili sauce they make is pure crack sauce. I use it on everything! The mini dessert they include in the bag is thoughtful as well. Support your local favorites!

Combination fried rice, just the BEST FRIED RICE EVERRR

This is still my favorite Chinese food spot. A hole in the wall spot, mom and pop spot, good greasy Chinese food spot. Prices may have gone up since the shelter in place but the taste of the food is still the same! If you go, you HAVE to get the combination fried rice. It is THE BEST FRIED RICE EVER. No other fried rice will compare. I swear I could eat the fried rice by itself and it would hit the spot every time. Other go-to foods that I go for on the regular: Fried squid Broccoli beef Wonton soup Chow mein So if you're craving Chinese food during this shelter in place, call them for take out! Or even when this is all over, support their business because that fried rice is so good! Now I'll say it one more time, fried rice.

More at 3.5 stars but rounding it up to 4 for being somewhat one of a kind. I honestly don't think J & A is a 5-star "as good as it gets" type of place. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes or maybe this place has 5 stars for being the best around the area? The food is good though, just not the best ever! I'd still come back to try more dishes. I came here because my sister had been bugging me, telling me this is her favorite spot because it's so cheap (YES it is cheap and FYI - CASH ONLY)! J & A Restaurant is a straight up mom&pop/hole-in-the-wall type of place. The boyfriend joined me for lunch. We were greeted by a sweet Chinese lady and her husband - very friendly service. The table setting is something I'll definately remember about this place lol - "Mexican Fiesta" place mats and paper plates...say what!? It was like we were at a fast food restaurant but not. We ended up ordering the Combination Family Dinner A: - Wonton Soup (pretty good) - Egg Rolls (kind of oily but loved the crunch; came with sweet & sour packets) - BBQ Pork Fried Rice (dry and burnt looking; not really my favorite) - Sweet & Sour Pork (good and crunchy) - Beef with Oyster Sauce (needs a little more flavor) - Dessert: sweet oranges, fortune cookie, and mini snickers I think we would've enjoyed it more if we ate our dishes with plain white rice instead of fried rice.

While we were waiting for our table, we saw 2-3 couples get turned away. The restaurant is small, but the interior is well-decorated. It pays homage to HK posters, music, and culture. They offer two complimentary small bites of smashed cucumber and peanuts. - XO Escargot: a must order, the dish only comes with 6 pieces but it's so worth it. The sauce is garlicky, buttery, and each bite with the milk bread is so good. The bread also has a crispy outer layer while the inside is super soft. - Eggplant: at first, we thought the dish was good, but the pieces on the bottom that soaks up all the sauce makes the eggplant full of umami flavor. This paired so good with rice. - Mapo Tofu Spaghetti: just as you imagine, but very yummy. I wish there was more of a numbing spice personally! - Black Pepper Steak: The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the sauce was very yummy. This dish did not blow me away like some of the others but was still good nonetheless. I really wished we could have try the Singapore Chili Crab, but that would have been too much food. Our server was also fantastic and so kind, I wish I caught her name. Will def be back!

Our party of 4 ordered the fried hawt rabbit, spicy Singaporean crab with fried milk bread, Hong Kong black pepper steak, and beef chow fun noodles to share family style. Overall, we were super impressed with all the food. Everything other than the chow fun were super unique, but all the flavor combinations worked so well together. While the chow fun wasn't unique, I'd say it's still a very solid dish. Everyone in my party left full and satisfied. The food is a bit on the pricey side for it what it is, so I wouldn't come here regularly but I think that it's worth coming for a special occasion. Service here is super friendly and attentive--our waitress checked in on us frequently and brought us extra napkins and gloves for our food, which was super appreciated. This restaurant is on the smaller end and does have a long wait, so if you can, I'd recommend making a reservation.

(That sounded really snobby, I apologize ) Dim sum is comfort food for me, and 606 knocks it out of the park! My mom used to get the pan fried noodles from here and i always used them as my reference point for any other restaurant that also serves this. It's what I remember and grew up with. So far only one has come close! This is all I remember from that place and how delish it was. Fast forward to yesterday. They were really nice and welcoming as soon as I went in. We didn't want to order too much, so we only got the beef hor fun and green onion pancakes. The pancakes were so good! Nice and chewy on the inside and crunch on the outside. The chow fun I had really high hopes for. My memories as a child having had chow fun all the time, had this distinct taste to it and made a certain way. Their chow fun was good, but I think it was lacking a little flavor? I also wish they used the wider noodles instead of these thinner ones. :( It wasn't bad at all, I just had a certain expectation. So far, there's only one place that is reminiscent of what I remember and it's in Sacramento. That being said, we will still come back because I would love to try the Simon's garlic chicken and more of the pancakes!

I do remember that I absolutely loved the Peking duck. They came with very thin, I can only describe it as tortilla crêpe things that you would put it in. I love this so much better than the standard buns. I also loved the fried string beans. It was tempura fried and very light. It didn't taste greasy at all. Out of three places we went to dinner for work, this was my favorite by far. It is right in Ghirardelli Square so there's a lot of things you can walk around and do either before or after.
