My PC crashed. I had a black screen and as a result all functions were inaccessible. I took the PC to J&B in the hope that the PC would just be able to boot up. Was having an intermittent display issue with my PC and Chris found the issue with the GPU. He suggested a couple different GPUs in different price ranges. I had him replace the GPU for me and he went above and beyond to check the settings for one of the games I mainly play. He also reoriented my CPU cooler and rerouted my fans so that the LEDs would sync up with the motherboard. Haven't had a display issue since! INCREDIBLE service, expertise and shop. I just had a drive crash, and used them to recover the data. They had amazing pricing. NO "Bench fee"... they looked at it for free to assess the issue (first place I checked charges $60 just to look at it. The recovery was a flat fee and was done VERY quickly (The other shop had an enormous range of pricing dependent upon amount of data, type of data recovery required, and whether I needed it sooner or later (Ranging from $400-$1,000), at J&B I paid $120, the amount quoted, and not dependent upon data amount (it was 4TB). I worked with Chris, and he was incredibly knowledgeable. Just in the consultation about the drive in his questions he asked in an attempt to determine how my failure occurred, I was educated on USB cable quality, and he asked a probing question regarding a performance issue I also mentioned, he asking if I'd ever considered a PC (I'm a 20+ year Mac guy) as it's much more economical to build a PC with way more power at a way lower price. Frustrated with my computer situation, I inquired about having him custom build a PC. Knowing I needed insane power, I asked for options that I could upgrade later, as the data recovery wasn't budgeted for, much less an impromptu custom computer build... Providing options for components that would suit my needs perfectly, I pushed for increasing power everywhere I could, and then when the quote came in, it was far below the jumping off point I had hoped for, and that INCLUDED all of the additions I wanted. after a week of fumbling with Windows, as I've not touched one in years, I am now proficient enough that I honestly am not missing my Mac because this computer is incredible. It was just a truly incredible experience from start to finish, as I needed numerous interactions for pickup/dropoff, ordering/pickup and post order upgrade, and I've honestly never felt so confident in the knowledge of a salesman or technical support, and I got it all from the same person. I am fairly new to the area and was referred to J&B as my desktop stopped working. I can't tell you enough how they saved me. They couldn't fix my crashed harddrive, but for a super reasonable price installed a new, better hard drive, helped me re-install my programs, printer, etc. and gave me a recommendation for a hard drive retrieval company to help me get my data back. A retired firefighter bought me a new computer from Best Buy and was told at the time of purchase that I could bring it into Geek Squad to get my old laptop data transferred for free to the new computer. When I arrived for my appointment with the Geek Squad in San Marcos the two employees had zero personality and didn't seem to be enjoying their job much. When I explained the situation they said that even though it was a gift purchased at Best Buy that they could not transfer the data for free, but I could pay like $120 or something. Plus a sales pitch for maybe $180 annual subscription of some sort? I joked with them that I was clueless with computers and how hard would it be to transfer the data if I reached out to a friend that was a little more tech savvy than me - and then he just regurgitated a sales pitch about their geek squad protocol basically being the best and did not answer my question. I was ready to get it done and had they answered any questions or had any sort of personality it could have been an easy sale... I figured I would rather go to a small business if there was one available, and I saw the five star yelp reviews for J&B. I gave them a call and had a pleasant phone conversation where I was treated like a human being and all of my questions were answered thoroughly. Same when I showed up in person - nothing but positive vibes and genuine care for my situation. Also, Jim has a great personality and doesn't take offense if you ask simple questions. They did the work super fast and when I came to pick it up Jim again was extremely pleasurable to interact with, and so was Chris who walked me through very basic computer things that might be annoying for Geek Squad if they would even take the time to answer them. Jim clearly cares about members of his community as well as the environment. I had no idea how the recycling business works and how we can donate to some organizations and they make profit and don't properly dispose of the computer parts they don't use. J&B donates to a green veterans organization. I definitely will be coming here for any of my computer needs. My computer completely died on me and these guys were great every step of the way. They checked it out for free and gave me a super honest assessment. After deciding the computer was more or less totaled they fought so hard to get the data off of it. At first they were unable due to how trashed the PC was and even after trying for multiple days, they still weren't going to charge me anything. Neeed to get my old computer updated for Windows 11. Unfortunately the processor wasn't compatible. Jim and Chris suggested a new system built by them that would work with Windows 11. I had a lot of specialty software on my computer. They suggested they clone my system and transfer all the data and apps to their system and then upgrade to Windows 11. Worked like a charm. I don't normally go to a computer repair store to fix my computer because I'm a college student and I'm trying to avoid spending money and I'm scared of getting overcharged. Excellent computer repair! I took in a 2015 MacBook because the trackpad wasn't working after I replaced the battery myself. Within one day, Kevin (the J&B Mac expert) had the problem diagnosed. Just came back from J&B Computers. My initial visit was last Thursday (8/31/23), when the Dell Laptop I purchased there in 2021 wasn't recognizing the power adaptor in order to charge the battery.
