Took my brand new Asus Q504 in because the Stock HDD drive sucks and asked them to swap it out for a SSD. These guys are outstanding. My machine was randomly locking up then eventually wouldnt start. I tried everything I could do myself but couldn't find the problem. Very quickly the techs at JB found I had power supply failure on my gaming rig. They found a compatible replacement that was considerably cheaper (and just as reliable) than the cosair psu I had in there. They saved my bacon, affordably! I had a complete meltdown of a fairly new Lenovo computer. Luckily I had purchased the upgraded in home warranty plan. Unfortunately they have one person handling Inland Empire and Southern Orange County where I moved to from San Marcos. That means he couldn't get to me for several days. I then asked them for someplace local for drop off. They sent me to Sehi Computer Products Inc. for a diagnosis. Turns out I needed a new SS drive and motherboard. Stupidly I hadn't backed up my computer for several months and I asked Sehi if they could recover info off the hard drive. "I'm sorry, we don't do that" but you can call "Brand X" for that" So I called them, sorry I can't remember their name, but they are in Irvine. I spoke to the person that answered the phone and told them my dilemma. They told me it's a crapshoot and if they can get files off my SS drive it'll cost somewhere between $300 and $1,200 YIKES! A friend then reminded me of J & B, so I called them. They made no promises to recover anything but the diagnosis is free and if they can get the info off the charge would be $60.00. Hallelujah! I took my computer and a thumb drive down to them and in one day had it diagnosed and the files on the thumb drive. Super service! I would drive there from Phoenix if I had to to have them work on my computers, that's how much I trust and appreciate them. When I saw that this place had (at the time) 76 reviews, all of which were 5 stars, I knew I had to take my dead hard drive here. I didn't have high hopes for the contents of the drive to be resurrected, but Jim and his staff explained the whole process clearly, told me up front what all charges would be, and what I'd need to bring in, if they were able to recover my data. Good job guys, I took my sons laptop in because he somehow managed to break the spring to shut the computer, leaving it in a stuck in a power on position. I know less about computers then taking a car in so I was praying they wouldn't swindle an ignorant mom. They talked to my 12 year old son about it like he was the owner, as they should. Told him how to properly take care of it, ect. I dropped it off and got the call back within the hour, I could get a whole new computer OR just buy a recycled part and fix it as is. With part and labor I walked out under 150, they had to order the part so it took less then 48 hours til I got the call to pick up. Excellent service! With no appointment a tech was able to look at My PC immediately. He got it working within 30 minutes and answered all my questions knowledgeably. With the money I saved over taking it to a flat rate estimate place like Staples, I purchased some additional RAM. The tech installed the cards and showed me the screen where the system displayed the install and compatibility info. This is the kind of superior old-fashioned customer service that is getting hard to find in America. First rate, great pricing, and beyond my expectations. Kevin (I think?) was the tech who I spoke to on the phone who actually took apart my laptop and assessed the damage--he too was always very helpful, straightforward and friendly (again). This is a hole-in-the-wall computer repair place. Not much street appeal and frumpy inside but very friendly and helpful. I don't think I'd come into a place that looks like this from the street, but I've had some friends use them and speak highly of them. My laptop was having trouble with the power. I've had a number of machines need service from a loose power jack and I was sure that's what I was facing again. I called a number of places and the going rate to re-solder a jack in the motherboard is $150. When I went in, they tested the jack and my power supply/cord. It turns out that the jack was fine and it was the power cord that needed replacing. Beyond that they recommended I order it myself online to save money AND charged NOTHING for the diagnosis! Wow. Customer service, honesty, sound advice...it's like a throwback to the old days. It made my day. I ordered a part online for $15 and will definitely use them again for repairs. read more

My laptop died and after several attempts to revive it, I conceded that I needed help. I have driven by J&B Computers hundreds of times since it's across the street from Home Depot, but they didn't come to mind when I was looking for a repair shop. Luckily, I searched Yelp and saw their stellar reviews. Yelpers are right - this place is great! The shop is modest but Jim and Kevin know computers. They are polite and easy to work with. It's rare to find tech people who do not condescend to others who are less knowledgeable, but that doesn't happen here. They actually listen, ask questions, and respond respectfully. My hard drive was fried so they gave me a few options - replace the hard drive on the old system, buy a new laptop and lose my data, or buy a new laptop and they could transfer my old data. I chose the last option and Kevin gave me some recommendations about brand reliability and build quality. I brought in my new system and they transferred my data and helped me get all set up. (Bloatware be gone!) They even did some troubleshooting on a software install on my new laptop that Adobe Support couldn't sort out. The diagnosis was free and they only charged me for the data transfer and some software I bought from them. Their fees were so reasonable that feel guilty. This is the first negative review I have ever posted. My Mac had a problem with its email program. Everything else worked except for that. I brought it to J&B and they told me that they would be able to fix it...but that Adobe suite software (Photoshop, Indesign, etc.) could not be saved and that I would have to replace it afterward. I had the license information, so I approved the repair. The email program now works, which is good. But the problem is that they deleted EVERY SINGLE program or application that did not originally come with the computer. It was devastating. Not only that, but the computer wouldn't link up with my printer afterward either. It was like going to the doctor's with a broken leg...and having it set properly...but then coming out with a broken leg afterward. I firmly believe this is a miscommunication issue on their part. And I have no doubt that they had the best of intentions. They sent me a text afterward to see how things were...and I told them. But they didn't bother replying. They just dropped me. Obviously, I will never go them again. I would urge people to get their statements in writing. And bring your Macs somewhere else, sad to say. read more

I took my laptop in for a DC jack repair and had a very poor experience with this company--specifically due to my interaction with Jim, the owner. The tip of my power cord had broken off when my DC jack broke, so I dropped off the broken cord along with a replacement cord when I left the computer for service. I asked Jim if he could recycle the broken cord and he agreed. It took a couple weeks for the new DC jack to arrive, which was totally out of control of the shop, so this did not bother me. However, once the part arrived, I received a call from J&B to tell me that my hard drive was failing and needed to be replaced. I hadn't noticed any problems with my hard drive prior to taking it to the shop, but I believe them. What bummed me out was that when I dropped off the computer I had Office 2010, and when I picked it up I had Office 2003--if they needed my Office 2010 license number they could have called. Anyhow, when I picked up the laptop they gave me the new power cord--I did not take the broken cord. The third or fourth time I used the laptop, it blue-screened and wouldn't restart. The error said that their was a hardware conflict with the Windows install. Prior to the blue screen it had acted funny, such as shutting down rather than sleeping when I closed the screen Also, the battery died really quickly even when it was supposed to be sleeping/hibernating, but those issues might have been due to the power settings. So, I took the laptop back to J&B and they agreed to repair it at no charge under warranty. They said it probably broke because I didn't power it off before closing the screen, which I was skeptical about. I left the laptop and the new power cord and Kevin said he would have it for me in a couple days. When I picked up the laptop after the warranty repair, I noticed that Jim had given me the broken power cord that I had originally left with them for recycling. I asked him for the new power cord, and at that point, things deteriorated quickly. Jim did not remember that I had originally brought in two cords and basically implied that I was lying about having a new cord. After looking for the new cord for a few minutes, he condescendingly offered to pay for the cord, but in a tone and with an expression that clearly indicated that he did not believe me. Then, when I told him that I simply wanted the cord that I had left with him and was not looking for reimbursement, he turned his back on me and picked up the phone. I definitely became upset at this point and raised my voice at Jim. To Kevin's credit, he offered a sincere apology and diffused the situation. he promised to look for the cord and call me. When Kevin called a day or two later, I confirmed the brand of the power cord and he searched again. Kevin finally found the cord a day later and called to apologize for the hassle. Maybe Jim was having a bad day, but that is no reason the treat your customers rudely. The entire experience was ultimately prolonged and exhausting, and as polite and helpful as Kevin was, Jim was quite the opposite. I will not return to J&B and would not recommend them to others. read more

I called JNB today to see if they repaired Printers and they offered to take a look at my printer if I brought it in. I brought my printer into them and the took time right away to look at it to see if they could fix the paper tray that was jammed. Jim & Kevin both spent about 15 mins trying to figure it out they were unable to. Their customer service was amazing they took time to see if they could find someone who specialized in printer repairs. I would highly recommend these guys for any computer repairs you may need.
