This place really surprise me. I have lived in this area for over 30 years and I have always seen this little hamburger place and wondered if it's been open this long it has to be good so I finally came in and tried it out. I got their double cheeseburger combo. Let me tell you it was great. Now this is a burger that reminds me of something that's home-cooked, I don't mean that in a bad way because my family gets down in the kitchen and I've had plenty of burgers that are better than Mostbrick and motors. They got the recipe right, they did not mess up where they didn't need to and they shine where they needed to. Discovered this place 18 years ago and made it a go-to for a long time before relocating... and today, still solid. Returning to the area last year, felt like prices have increased dramatically but still reasonable. Standard quality for a small menu but the best item here would be the beans, it was then and it still is now. Something about these beans makes me crave a breakfast burrito. Unsure if it's because I've become accustomed to the flavors over the years but pair the beans, their mole hot sauce and pico salsa for a classic taste like no other. Only knock I'd say here, is that I wish they wouldn't be so tight with their sauce and salsa's! If I spent $60 in burritos, I'd expect a few additional salsa or pico at no cost if I ask. Not the case... 0.25/each and they charge tax on top of that... lol. Taquitos and hard shell tacos are decent here as well. They also serve burgers, hotdogs & blts if you're in the mood. They once had indoor seating but not the case anymore, my guess is Covid closed that area up for good. There's about 6 small tables under the patio where you order if you're looking to enjoy the meal on site. Otherwise the small parking lot behind the building is an option if you're the type to eat on the hood or inside your car. I don't mind the minimal feel... quick eat and roll out or buy it to go. J & S has a designated parking lot and this spot is supposedly known for breakfast burritos (ham, bacon, or sausage.) Please note adding guacamole, source cream, cheese, or bacon = extra charge. I got my order fairly quickly (less than 5 minutes.) *** Bacon breakfast burrito ($6.95): Generous portion and enough to fill me up, but it was just mostly potato and egg. A small building located on a busy street, the restaurant has parking in the back for around 10-15 cars (including some handicap spots). This usually doesn't get filled up since most people come here just to grab and go, although there are seats for small parties who choose to eat there. There is no indoor section, and to my knowledge, no public restroom either. You order at the window and wait for your order to be called, which usually takes around 5-15 minutes depending on your order size and how busy it is at the time. The restaurant serves a mix of Mexican and American plates, mostly handheld, on the go type of items. Prices are very reasonable, portion sizes are respectable, and the taste is above average. While nothing stands out as over-the-top amazing, there aren't any bad things about this place either. I called in an order for pickup and was quoted 15 minutes. I left my house 15 minutes after calling in my order. When I paid for my food I said it was a phoned in order for pickup, but was not told my food was ready. I stood around waiting for about 30 more minutes while other people who walked up and ordered after me got their orders before me. When I walked up to the window to check on my order, the woman at the window said my order had been ready. I said you didn't tell me it was ready or call my name. She stated she was calling me for 5 minutes which I will say is not true at all, because everyone she called was a number and all orders were picked up. I said my food has been sitting and I wasn't told it was ready when I paid. The woman had no cares and only repeated that she did call me. When I got home, my food was cold and was made incorrectly. I would always come here in high school to get breakfast burritos before school back in early 2010s. It's 2025 and I'm in the area drunk af looking for a food spot, I find J&S! Again. They now accept card which is a huge plus now! I got the chorizo burrito with guac late at night around 2am and was so good! I also got the chili cheese fries and loved that they came with Monterey Jack instead of cheddar! I wanted to make sure the food was actually delicious so I got drunk again late at night and ate my food in the morning hungover the 2nd time! And wow the burrito was still soft and not too greasy, usually a cold burrito will have a really hard tortilla not sure how they do it but the burrito was still soft after the night. It had a nice roasted pepper taste, but also some sweet notes and a fragrant flavor like tamarind. The taco shell is fried and lard and it makes a difference for taste. The taco tastes like an authentic version Taco Bell hard shell taco was trying to mimic. Don't kill me - I'm just saying it like I tasted it. The burrito was sausage with bacon added and filled with beans, cheese, and potatoes. Such a good vessel for the guac sauce and hot sauce. Credit Card Or Cash: Cash talks, but if you need cash there is a ATM machine available if you need to get some cash. Location/Parking: Located next to Ground Up Coffee. Parking can be found either in the front 20 min. zone or in their private parking lot that is good for 1 hr. Hours Of Operation: Covid is not slowing them down! They're still going strong and are open 24/7. Not sure how the hours are like when there is a holiday though. Masks Required?: Make sure you wear a mask. They have a sign up front that says masks are required. If you don't have a mask, you can purchase from them for $1 (blue masks), $2 (black masks), $4 (Kn95 masks 2pk), or $6 (face shield). Ambiance/Decor: Not much ambiance with a couple of tables that are not accessible for now due to no outdoor dining. Service: Staffers were wearing masks when I was there. Service was good. Staffers were friendly and it didn't take long (10-15 minutes) to get my order. They also offer a service where you can call ahead to order whatever you desire. Food Of Choice: I got the 3 meat (ham, bacon, and sausage) breakfast burrito. I thought the burrito was okay. A bit bland. J&S used to be THE spot to go to late night, random midday, morning.. anytime. One item, the order of taquitos, has been my absolute go-to and the one item that I'd enthusiastically recommend to anyone else. The second to last time that my boyfriend and I went, the taquitos were a little colder than usual (they're never cold) & the meat tasted a a bit undercooked. Rating: 3.3/5 This place is opened 24 hours and only accepts cash. I believe I paid under 20 for the all meat burrito and taquitos. My friend paid around 11-12 dollars for the fries. If I were to explain why we should eat here, it's probably because we're desperate for mexican food at 2am. I wish they were more specific to "additional meat" because it seems like its just shredded beef that they give you. I made the mistake of getting the all meat burrito with shredded beef (no carne asada no al pastor no chicken) and god that really needed something else like rice and beans because that burrito was just TOO soft. The taqutios that were consumed by my friend was given a rating of 4/5. The guac is good but it just tastes like blended avocado but its not a bad thing. If they added their green salsa (spicy) to the fries. It's seriously a great idea. Also their red salsa (chipotle salsa) is super good. Good smokey flavor. The fries were at most a 3.8/5. It was okay but I was desperate for tex mex food. Would I go here during the day? No, hell no. There's better spots than this. Although, for late night food? Hell yeah, sometimes those taco trucks are closed so I would 100% resort to this if I had the munchies. Although on a closing note, I definitely think this place does well with crunchy foods.
