I frequent this location pretty often, some might say a little to much . But the food always hits the spot and the service is always amazing. I've gone to my fair share of korean bbq places, but this is definitely my go-to and the one I always recommend. If you've visited multiple korean bbq spots in the k-town area, I'm sure you'd agree that service isn't always their priority, but J BBQ's service is next level, and honestly the main reason this is my go-to location. Valet is rude and although he didn't park our car (there was nobody there and other vehicles just parked themselves as well) or take out our vehicle out he was quick to demand we pay the valet fee. It's an all you can eat Korean barbecue restaurant. Prices are fair for what's offered. The staff quickly got us seated and had the side dishes and all laid out for us when we got the table. I'm not sure if they do this for everyone (cause I didn't really notice it with other tables) but they would come by every few minutes to put our food on the grill and cut it up, etc. I don't know if it's because we didn't seem like we knew what we were doing, but I do kind of wish they laid back a little cause after all the whole point of kbbq is to cook the meat yourself, you know? The meat was 7/10. I think certain things could've been more flavoured or saucier. They also didn't change our grill at all while we were there and it got REALLY smoky. Having experienced other kbbqs, I don't really think I should have to ask to get that replaced. I wasn't a big fan of the pasta and potato salads but their pickled radish was yummy! Would I return? In general I really like the food from j bbq, the price is reasonable and the meat is good. I go there for dinner with my friends 2-4 times a month. The young servers and the host were nice and spoken fluent English. I always have had good experiences untill tonight with one of the middle-aged female server. She did not speak much of English so it was quit difficult to communicate with her. She gave out the wrong dish and gave us a negative vibe when we said, "Sorry, we didn't order this." One of my favorite side dish was mashed potatoes, to me it has a similar taste to the ones from Target or Costco. I take a huge bite and immediately the smell of sourness goes straight to my nostrils. I asked for a second plate but it was the same. It felt like it had been exposed to the room temperature for too long to the point it spoiled. That was when the mid-aged female said, "the chief changed the recipe, so it taste different, it is the sauce not the food . No body has complained about it, you're the only one," with a threatened look in her eyes. When I was explaining the situation to the younger server, I was very kind, not trying to further escalate the situation. I just wanted to remind them that the food might not be good to eat, so they can switch it out so that other customers don't accidentally eat it. All I received from that lady was a lot of complaints and attitude. When we asked for a grill change this same lady was complaining that the grill is still good. Like we don't know what we are talking about. It was only two of us but they automatically charged for tips. Sometimes, I doubt the fact that does everyone deserves a tip. If employees' tips are flat, is it fair for those servers who serves well? I can understand that everything has its good and its bad. During the whole dinner I treated them with smile and respectful thanked them when they brought our orders. What I do not need is disrespect or any negative attitude in return. The actual restaurant was pretty small and there is not much parking on the street, so your best bet would be to take the valet parking offer the restaurant has for $2. The tables were pretty small for a group like ours and it resulted in us having to stack up the plates that we didn't use or to put dishes that we didn't want behind the grill and up against the wall since we were seated on a side table. The service was pretty fast and we were literally helped by all the wait staff available on the floor, so the meat runneth over continuously. It was a pretty good deal per person since it was about $12 each with endless selections of 10 different kinds of meat. We stuck with the brisket, pork belly, and bulgogi for our meats and continuously asked for rice paper. Soon after we selected our plan, the server suggested we order the Kobe round steak and the prime chuck roll steak because they were new additions on the menu. Both were bland and flavorless. I immediately regretted wasting my calories on these dishes. We felt compelled to finish them because we did not want to be charged the $5 per person fee for not eating everything we ordered. The marinated shrimp were large but had a strange and unpleasant flavor, like they weren't quite fresh. The cheese corn dish was very cheesy, and a little too greasy for me. I would have preferred more side dishes, and the sides available could have been better. However, the salad was actually really good. The salad greens were fresh and the dressing was a nice balance of sweet, tart, and salty. The best dish we ordered was the "finger meat," which was basically marinated chunks of steak. I've been coming to JBBQ for a long time now. I recommend them to all my friends and family members. We stumbled upon this hidden gem when we used to go to another kbbq spot and they would get too packed. They sent us here and we've been coming ever since. We really appreciated it because thanks to that we actually got to try different meats and made it to finally try the kimchi fried rice. Me and my bf are really into KBBQ and we thought this place was just OK. We got the lunch special B for under $20. I think the best part about it is that it comes with a choice of beer or soda. So we both got Sapporo beers to go with our BBQ. The first we noticed that was different from most of the BBQ places we've been to is the grill. It's made up of almost like the stonepot that kimchee soups come in at korean restaurants, so I wasn't sure how well it was going to cook the meats because usually when I order kimchee fried rice on a stone pot, the rice gets burnt and it gets stuck on the sides. There's a little hole on the side for the oil that produces when cooking the meats, which I thought was pretty neat. We ordered what we always order at KBBQ's, which is brisket, porkbelly and spicy pork. The lady came over with our porkbelly and brisket order and literally just dumped it on our grill. Now if you know us, we prefer not to just dump all the meats into the grill and have it cook unevenly, but the fact that she didn't even give us that option was a little rude. The meat kinda made up for it, but it took a little longer to cook because it was cooking unevenly. Wasn't sure if it was because of the grill or the fact that it was overcrowded cause she dumped the whole tray of meats unto our grill. We also ordered the Kobe bottom round steak and we accidentally overcooked it and it was tough & hard to chew. Almost risked paying the $5 for leftovers cause man it was not fun trying to eat overcooked steak. We also tried the Carne Ranchera and it was pretty delicious. Would recommend! The sauces were meh, and the sides were okay too. We got the steamed corn & cheese as a side and it was pretty delicious. I actually finished all of mines surprisingly; it's just a little too oily, but cmon that's expected lol. There's always so many Korean BBQ restaurants in K-Town that often times I get stuck with just one; playing it safe. However, since I should lower the amount of money I've been spending eating out, finding a Korean BBQ joint that costs less than $15 for dinner was definitely something, and Madaongsae delivered just that. After a wonderful recommendation from my good friends Justin E. and Jaymie Lynn S. who told me that dinner was $12.99 with ten items, I just had to try this place out. Indeed they were right, because upon looking at the menu, I was blown away by how many more options you get for the price. You have two AYCE options, and it doesn't matter what time of day you go: $7.99 for brisket & pork belly $12.99 for sirloin, shrimp, brisket, pork belly, sliced beef, marinated beef, sweet beef, beef tongue, beef stomach, and intestine. I had an early birthday dinner here with friends I had studied abroad with in Tokyo. My friends and I opted for the $12.99 deal, and for two of them this was their first time eating KBBQ! After our meal, they both agreed they had a good experience, especially trying the more unique fairs such as beef stomach. It can get busy during dinner time, so be sure to arrive earlier for a table. Most tables will seat four people comfortably, but there is a row of tables in the middle of the dining area where each one is connected, so larger parties will split two grills. The service here I have to say was really good! They don't have a call button at this restaurant, but the servers are very attentive and made sure all of us were comfortable and had our meats stocked. Our jug of iced barley tea was usually refilled, and they kept coming back to refill out stash of rice paper. However, their selection of banchan was a bit lackluster. I've definitely had better and more options elsewhere (Tahoe has cheese corn!!), but it makes up for it in the meat. Definitely try: 1. Sirloin - A huge cut of sirloin that requires some time to cook, but once it's halfway cooked, a server will come and cut it up for you. Great service, and it was delicious! 2. Beef stomach - It wasn't too chewy and had quite a bit of flavor. I would get this instead of intestines if you are eager to share with your friends a different side of the cow. 3. Marinated Beef - I couldn't believe how tasty this was! Although there aren't short ribs here, the marinated beef makes up for it. Full of flavor once cooked. And just as a note, the shrimp comes in shells, so it will require a bit of work to eat if you want to tackle them. So it's definitely a great KBBQ experience for the price. However, parking is a bit sketch. There is a lot to the right of the restaurant, where valet almost becomes mandatory due to so few spots. There is not a whole lot to say about Ma Dang Sae but this: it's cheap and it gets the job done. I had heard about Ma Dang Sae from friends and decided to give it a try. Having been spoiled by Cham Sat Gol, I was a little apprehensive to try a place that charges only $9.99 for AYCE brisket, sweet beef, chicken, pork belly, sweet pork AND thin pork. Since I had made a reservation earlier in the afternoon, our group of six was able to sit down in no time. The first thing I noticed was that the waiters are very quick and efficient. After a couple of minutes, the waiter came by, took note that we all were getting the $9.99 set and went in and out of the back kitchen with another waiter and plates of side dishes (banchan). The waiters don't come by for another 10 to 15 minutes, hoping that most of us will fill up on the banchan. Thankfully, we knew better, and though the wait was arduous, it was rewarding, and soon the waiters came by with a plate full of curled up frozen meat and dumped it on our steaming grills. The rest you do by yourself -- it's pretty self-explanatory. Do what you will with the meat until there is not a speck of pink and eat it. When you run out of meat, get the attention of the waiter and order some more. When you run out of anything, get the attention of the waiter. We ate our fill, paid and left. The brisket was definitely not the best brisket I have had. On the other hand, I did enjoy the sweet beef and chicken A LOT, as well as the edible paper and salad that complements the meat (wrap it up like a burrito!!).
