Firstly, let me state that J D Shuckers is our go to place for fish and chips while we are in town on vacation. I noticed that they always had meatloaf on the menu. So, I inquired about the quality of the meat loaf and was told by the waitress that she did not know, as she never had tasted it. That statement should have been a red flag but I forged ahead nonetheless. The first bite I noticed that it was very salty. Before the next bite I scraped off the "Demi Glaze'' sauce since I was not exactly sure what it was. I assumed it would be a barbecue or ketchup based sauce and that it would be on the side. I could not eat the rest of the meatloaf. We informed the waitress that the plate was inedible and she had no comments whatsoever, so we adjusted our normal 18 percent tip accordingly. Went here with family this past Saturday. It was busy and there was a wait. We waited about 10 minutes. It was crowded but the tables were at an appropriate social distance. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. She answered all of my questions happily. I ordered the blackened tuna which was a special that night. I ordered the mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was delicious and I gobbled it right up. If you go, you must order the mashed potatoes for one of your sides. They were especially tasty. Finally visited after a year of debate. Many reviews say Noisy, it was very noisy, I'm sure due to the room acoustics. Also the table next to us had a very loud talkative young man who did not stop for a minute. Why don't the parents control their kids? Came here for the first time during my vacation in Long Neck. I got the fried oysters with coleslaw and green beans. It was absolutely delicious! There is cilantro in the coleslaw and it was really different. Someone in my party did receive the wrong meal but they did replaced it but on the next meal her rice wasn't completely cooked. I have a habit of checking Yelp reviews before going out to eat at a place I have never been. I wasn't sure I wanted to go here, the reviews were not favorable however they were outdated. But our friends assured us it was good food. Nicole greeted us with a welcoming smile and was also our waitress. We started with a variety of their crushes, orange, ruby grapefruit, and lemon...all delicious and packed with a punch. Next came perfect tempura Calamari, crab soup (loaded with crab) and lettuce wedge with ample bleu cheese. Our entrees included crab cake, steakhouse burger fish taco and my Shuckers Burger. I gotta tell you I'm not a big fan of burgers but this one was absolutely delicious. The accompanying fries were hot and crisp. Another round of drinks finished off a perfect mid-day meal. Nicole was there when we needed her and absent when we didn't. Get away from the beach where food is mediocre and expensive and find JD Shuckers. With tax, oh there is no tax in Delaware, $124.25. I'm only here to rave about the chowder. I love chowder and this place made my palate very happy. The atmosphere is typical of a bar/food restaurant with lots of drinking and noise. Been here many times, the most recent being March 5, 2011. Great selection of beer on tap, had the Evo Porter from nearby Delmar. There are usually fresh fish specials that come with 2 sides for $18. I had the blackened grouper with mac-n-cheese and steamed broccoli. The portion was a little small, but not a bad value for $18. On Saturday nights they may have a small band or some other kind of live entertainment. Shuckers is a 5 minute ride out Rt 24 away from the traffic on Rt 1 in Lewes. Even though there were a number of people in their, the place was quite. Food not at all like the Georgetown location. My husband ordered a Bleu cheese bacon burger, asked for crisp bacon. Got items on the burger not ordered and bacon was greasy and tough. They apparently deep fried it, terrible. I had the French Dip. Beef was overcooked and dry. It just keeps getting better! The specials menus are unbelievable, I find myself wanting to come in almost every day to see what's new. The blackened shrimp southwest ceasar salad was huge and delicious, the surf and turf tacos unbelievable. My mom loves the food but I think she secretly goes for the incredible drink specials (summer passion is a favorite). The cocktails are terrific and inventive, and as always, the craft beer selection is surprisingly large. The hot fudge sundae is so good, even if I have dinner elsewhere or at home, I'll stop into Shuckers for a sinfully delicious dessert. Nicole is absolutely great, she remembers what we like to have and always greets us like old friends. The ambiance and live music were nice. They had buck a shuck oysters which were ok, nothing to write home about and the mussels were suppose to be in a wine butter sauce. There was some watery liquid at the bottom f the bowl which had no taste. They were generous with the amount of mussels though. Something funny we observed...every single waitress was short and or petite and had light blonde hair in a braid or pony tail. It was pretty funny trying to identify which waitress was ours. The server was very nice, but the food took an obscene amount of time to come out the of the kitchen, not just for our table, but the people around us too. It tasted ok, nice crab chunks but not very creamy. For an entree from the lunch menu I chose the crab imperial burger...nicely done! Grilled roll, perfectly cooked burger. Thought We had found a great place to run to around the corner when we moved from Milton to Lewes . Been here 22 years and love supporting local businesses ..... we've been coming In a few times and had a good meal. Friendly service , nothing gourmet but definitely fine for the price . We came in for Father's Day dinner . First in literally and ordered apps . Came out promptly but my soup was Luke warm ... then we watched as the entire restaurant was served while we waited for our entrees . We were never offered refills on our almost empty drinks . Just told our dinner was coming . When they finally came my 26.00 sautéed soft shells were cold and soaked in thick oil with chunks of garlic . My husbands seafood marinara pasta was room temp , And the pasta was so cool it was clumped together . We told our server to take it away . She offered to remake it but after waiting 25 minutes we thought no thanks . Let us pay for what we ate and be done . As we were leaving , the manager promptly greeted us at the door and basically told us the food was fine and none of what we experienced happened lol. We won't be back. Stopped here for dinner and we were not disappointed! Nice open space with plenty of seating and a solid menu. Between the four of us we tried a little bit of everything and we had not one complaint about the food. Our burger was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, fresh salad with plenty of bacon and cheese, juicy pulled pork, and desserts were off the hook! Raw clams good only complaint weren't cleaned from shell but excellent. NY strip - one word AMAZING. Best steak I have had in a long time. Only giving 1 star because there is not a 0. We have lived down the road for about 10 years now, and have been going there to eat all the way back when it was Ashby's. We go in 10-20 times a year, We come about 5-7 times with groups of 10+. Nicole and James are, and have always been awesome. Tonight I have never been so insulted. We had some slow (I won't say bad) and then completely wrong (food) service. When I commented to whom I later found out was the owner, he was totally and completely off the charts rude. This is one loyal customer that is lost FOREVER! I can't wait to tell at least 10 more people. From now on we will be checking out the new restaurants in Longneck. read more
