    Lobster ravioli
    DJ W.

I was very excited to try this place when I saw the reviews, but both food and service were pretty disappointing. First, we ordered the biscuits and wish we hadn't. They were dry and dense. They were also pretty dark in color. When I asked the waitress if they always came out kind of burnt, she got a little defensive and argued they weren't burnt. We also had the calamari, which was average. For my entree, I ordered the lobster ravioli, which was a very small plate. I think there were about 4-5 ravioli. Unfortunately, the taste profile of this dish fell flat because the sauce was bland and thin. (A cream sauce would have been much better.) My friend ordered the mussels and fries. Some of the mussels were oddly sticky and tacky, but at least the fries were pretty good. Lastly, I tried the malted ice cream pie, and it also did not deliver. If you are passing through like me, don't stop here. It's just not worth it.

I swore I came here years ago and left a review but maybe not... Anyways I came here for Friday lunch. I was sat in the back dining area at this round booth/table. I just wanted to get a sandwich and fries so I got the oyster po boy and it came with boardwalk fries ($15) Service was friendly and I was given a big jug of water for the table. I thought the sandwich was lackluster. Barely any fried oysters and it was a bunch of breading. The sandwich I thought needed more sauce. The boardwalk fries were nice and crispy atleast. I was able to get in and out and be on my way. Yay for efficient service! Maybe its what I ordered but willing to come back and try another menu item.

Initially, we didn't plan on getting the oysters but boy are we glad we did! The oysters here are superb!! We liked their oysters so much we almost got more at the end of our meal and we're not even big oysters fans, but this completely changed our mind. The spring dressed oysters were absolutely delicious. The flavors complimented the oysters very well. It was super fresh and brought out the sweetness of the oysters. It was really great for people who want to ease into oysters. The burger was pretty good. I thought the two patties were going to be fairly thin but I was completely wrong. The patties were quite thick which made the burger a little difficult to bite into but what a problem to have. It was yummy and juicy! The lobster roll was also very good. They definitely did not skimp out on the lobster meat. Despite being steeped in butter and mixed with mayo, it was not heavy at all. Being so close to the beach, there was a laid back vibe. Service was good and bathrooms were super spacious and clean which was a major plus! Highly recommend this restaurant!

What an amazing place!! It feels like a home when you walk in. Many rooms, bar areas and main seating area, and coat room. I really would have loved to try everything on the menu. The drinks and dessert were fabulous. I tried each of the 12 oysters offered, and they were so indescribably delish. Best of all our server Chelsea, so very nice, helped us navigate through this culinary experience and was spot on with all her recommendations. You should make Reservations and you must be done within 2 hours. Your server will help you keep with the time, which is very helpful. The prices are good and worth every penny. I can't wait to come back her. And we will request Chelsea's section, she was absolutely fantastic!!

There used to be a restaurant called Jerry's that was at this location and unfortunately it closed a couple of years ago. I was curious what took over that property and saw it was an oyster house. I was craving seafood and this was just the right place to feed those cravings. The inside of the room was updated and looks much better than what it looked like under Jerry's. The menu is small but everything looked pretty good. They had a print out of all the oysters that have to offer, I think it was at least 8 different types, with a description of what they taste like. I would say their description was spot on. Half a dozen oysters were $18. I liked the mignonette that came with it in a dropper bottle. Very nice touch. I also got the jumbo shrimp cocktail and boardwalk fries. The shrimp were huge, like 2-3 bites worth and the cocktail sauce was perfectly balanced. I didn't care for the boardwalk fries, they were dry and the old bay & vinegar seasoning was good but hardly noticeable. Lastly, our server was friendly and attentive. I would definitely come back here again! One last thing, I took a star off for the bartender with his hair tied back, who was singing along with the alt rock songs that were playing in the restaurant. Loudly. And for an excessively long time. It was so weird. He just kept singing for 2 songs.

The place has a cool vibe, the building is classic and charming with renovations that have a modern feel. The Service was impeccable, attentive but not too much. The food and drinks were amazing. My son had the Bee Sting along with a House Oyster Shooter. (both great) My wife had an Autumn Harvest Sangria (delicious). I had a Kőstritzer- Schwarzbier draft (great German beer, so glad they had this on tap) Me and my son split an order of Tavern Wings with Alabama sauce. For the entree's my wife a Salmon BLT. I ate a Chesapeake Blue Catfish sandwich. (This is an invasive species, so I felt good about ordering it.) My son had a Oyster Po Boy. For sides, my wife and son had the Boardwalk Fries - Old Bay & Malt Vinegar Powder version. All of the dishes and sides were Delicious. I can't wait to go back to Lewes so I can go here again.

Great spot for seafood lovers and gluten free eaters alike! Listen, I'm an oyster gal, but currently I can't eat them (pregnant) but that's no reason to not come here. Wings, burgers and sandwiches, amazing desserts! Always gluten free options and they are VERY careful. I don't know what else you need. This is definitely a solid lunch spot and I'm sure the same can be said for dinner. The setup is great, the decor is lovely, and even when it's wildly busy you don't feel neglected. They've got it down to a science. Parking can be rough during the tourist season but remember they are open for most of the locals only season too. Parking is normally within walking distance if you don't get a coveted spot outside.

The drinks were delicious and fun! Loved the burger! The oysters were so fresh and flavorful! Loved the seafood tower! And the milkshake pie and the cheesecake were fantastic!

Mussels and boardwalk fries (with truffle Parmesean)
    Caitlin D.

Lewes Oyster House feels traditional and intentional, from the worn leather menus to the live shucking and classy decor. Their happy hour menu is terrific and makes it hard to choose. Too much looks good. I got the mussels and boardwalk fries and upgraded the fries to truffle Parmesean (various options for fries flavors: others include old bay & vinegar powder and caviar & chive). Delicious food, can't express how good. Great service, eat at the bar!

I only had the one I paid for. There's no need to lie, bad days happen. This is not a speakeasy, this is a restaurant cosplaying as a speakeasy. That may be a bit harsh, it's a speakeasy in training. Sure, it's got all of the speakeasy decor, blackout curtains over the windows and doors, and a big selection of pedestrian liquor but it's not quite there. We went in on an early evening on Wed and there were maybe 5 other patrons in there. Our waitress was nice and brought us water to the high top. She brought us two food menus, and a specials menu. I asked for a bourbon list and she brought it; no prices on the list. Annoying. On the specials menu there was a small section of manager recommended drinks and one was a Willet. The way it was written was confusing because it said it was both a 4 year and 14 year for $52, so I asked for clarification on the age statement. She took the menu to the barkeep, who confirmed it was a 14 year so I said yes I'll have that. A drink was brought to me, but I could tell from the taste that it was not what I ordered. I asked the waitress for the bottle, she asked the guy behind the bar for the bottle and he pulled down a willet pot still bottle (pot still is the entry level Willet and at best a 5 dollar pour, no where near what I asked for). I told her that I was given the wrong drink, then she approached the bar and between her, and the male and female bartenders they had a weird back and forth conversation. Then, finally they pulled down the bottle that I asked for, that was advertised, and gave me a pour of it. I asked to see the bottle and the waitress brought it over but held it instead of putting it on the table (it was a 13 year Willet, Paper Trail). As we were about to order we were told that they reset the menu the very day before, with the focus of putting more love and care into the food. Feeling good about that, we ordered the French quarter catfish and the bourbon braised short ribs. The corn that came with the short ribs tasted straight out of a store bought steamable pouch, and the "ribs" weren't ribs at all, just sliced meat. The only redeemable thing about the catfish dish was the aioli; the rice had no flavor, the corn was cold and hard, and the catfish was mostly breading. We both took a few bites and resigned. I have been to many speakeasies around the US, and there are common themes: a much better selection of liquor; 95% of the bourbon were low tier bottles you can find in any liquor store for around $50. Also, when customers ask for the bottle, it isn't because we plan to steal it or drink from it, its because we're genuinely interested in the information on the labels. The quickest way to get people to stop spending money is to make them feel as if they can't be trusted touching a bottle. Perhaps it was an off day for the staff and this wasn't a typical experience, but I won't go back.

From the moment we walked in, the host and owner were incredibly welcoming and kind. We started with a Hefeweizen and a Cosmo. While the Cosmo wasn't anything particularly unusual, it was honestly perfection -- exactly how a good Cosmo should taste. Once we were seated, we were taken care of by two servers who were both so friendly, attentive, and conversational. We shared the buttermilk fried oysters to start, which were delicious -- and actually my first time trying a fried oyster! For dinner, we ordered the lobster spaghettini and the New Bedford scallops. Unfortunately, something about the lobster spaghettini was really off. I have NEVER sent a dish back at a restaurant, but neither of us could eat it. I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was, but the flavor seemed to be coming from the breadcrumbs throughout the dish, which tasted extremely stale (not just toasted) or maybe just too much miso? That being said, the way it was handled could not have been better. The owner was incredibly gracious and accommodating and immediately offered to exchange my dish. I ordered the scallops instead, and they were absolutely delicious. Beautifully seared, and the accompaniments worked so well together. One bad dish could have easily soured the experience, but it genuinely didn't. Between the oysters, scallops, drinks, and especially the hospitality, there was far more to compliment than criticize. The staff made us feel so welcome, and I really appreciated how kindly the situation was handled. We would absolutely return and recommend this restaurant.
