So good! I've been there 3 tines. Twice in the same week as well. So delicious everything I tried. Steak, desserts, cocktail,...so good!

We had a fantastic time here! Food was creative, delicious and incredible from start to finish. Service was polished, friendly and I saw many members of the staff working together to support one another which I believe is the mark of a truly great work environment. The staff really set this restaurant apart in my opinion!! The space is gorgeous and was bustling on a holiday weekend but still felt perfectly clean and comfortable with plenty of space to relax. 4 of us ordered the prix fixe menu which offers a great variety of choices. We all chose differently and everyone said their meal was the best they've had. Thank you for creating such a special night with our extended family. We don't get to see one another often and this meal made the trip even more memorable. read more

Even bring out a selection of knifes to choose from to use for cutting the steak; something I don't see often. The ambiance is great. 06-12-19 It has been four months since our last visit, and not much has changed, which is a good thing. When I arrive and checked at the Hostess Desk, I found that they had eliminated Valet parking, which caused me to have to get back in the car a drive around the block to the Marriott Hotel, which now supplies their Valet service at a cost. Eventually we got back to the Hostess Desk and was shown to our table in the Dining Room by a very pleasant Hostess. Interestingly, the table was the same table we had during our last visit. April, our server, came over with water and the menus and took my drink order, a neat Lagavulin 12yr. When she returned with my drink, she covered the specials and asked if we had any questions about the menu. She was extremely knowledgeable and answered all questions. I started with a perfectly prepared Oysters Rockefeller which consisted of three oysters baked with spinach, bacon, and parmesan cheese. We both had their Caesar Salad prepared with romaine lettuce, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, sourdough croutons, Asiago cheese crisp. I had anchovies on mine. For the main course I had a 6 oz. Center-Cut Filet Mignon Pittsburg Style with sides of Creamed Corn with Bacon and Chef's Blend Wild Mushrooms with Truffle Butter. The steak was cooked perfectly with a burnt crust and a cool center. The bacon gave the creamed corn a unique and delicious flavor. My wife ordered their Wood-Grilled Ribs: a full slab of pork spareribs, covered in Kansas City-style BBQ sauce, with sides of Creamed Corn with Bacon with and Yukon Mashed Potatoes. The ribs were fall of the bone delicious, just the way she likes them. For dessert we had the piece de resistance, their Chocolate Velvet Cake. It's a very moist chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse, chocolate, ganache, and raspberry ice cream coupled with a cup of coffee containing Jameson. A perfect ending to a perfect meal The only negative comment I have is they eliminated Valet parking while other restaurants in their class (Mahogany Prime, Sullivan's, 801 Chophouse) provide complementary Valet parking. If you are staying in the Capitol and staying at either the Omaha Marriott Downtown or the Hilton Omaha than this is your go to steakhouse, driving downtown, I'll choose a restaurant with complementary Valet parking. read more

With plenty of available tables they sat us next to the serving station in the middle of the floor. So while we were trying to enjoy a nice expensive meal, the servers were continually fluttering about our chairs which was very distracting. The food was definitely not worth the money. One steak was over cooked and dry another steak was undercooked and still raw. The raw one came back charred and over cooked. The salmon was good. The lobster Mac and cheese was definitely not worth the up charge and they served asparagus with the hard roots that you're not supposed to eat. Our server was nice and the bread was tasty. When in Omaha get steak. Let me say I don't do reviews, but this was so exceptionally good I had to share. I started with a Caesar salad and it was perfect. Crispy parm and sliced part tossed in a dressing line I e never experience fed. The romaine was crisp and the dish had a bit of kick. I loved it. For dinner I got the filet medium rare. It was perfect temperature with a nice sear. I would have expected the meat to be aged it was so tender. I don't do sauce or garnish of any kind and this steak didn't need anything, it was packed with flavor even though it didn't appear rubbed or seasoned. The Yukon mash and asparagus were also fantastic. I typically like my potatoes a bit on the fluffy side and these were pretty dense, but still a nice consistency and a great flavor. Last was the creme brûlée. Let me tell you I've had some good creme brûlée from some very expensive restaurants and this one I will remember. It had a nice crisp glaze and a truly light and creamy texture. I would have added more raspberries just to break it up as you go, but it was phenomenal. We had a lovely meal here while visiting Omaha. The food was very good. We had a pre-fix menu that was way more food than we probably needed, we left stuffed! The highlight of our dining experience though was our waiter, Armando V. He was attentive and made the dining experience very enjoyable. I asked for a Rum Old Fashioned. This will be quite the in-depth review of J.Gilbert's, so sit tight! We decided to go to this new steakhouse for my birthday to try it out and we were fairly surprised. First of all, there are two entrances to the place - one from capitol ave. And the other from inside the Marriott. I highly recommend entering from capitol ave. As they have a complimentary valet service. Those who came in through the Marriott were lost about where the hostess was located (under the staircase to the second floor). This could probably be fixed with a simple sign. On being seated, I received a hand written letter for my birthday - the dessert of my choice on the house was a great touch. The wine selection is fairly decent, with the option for just a glass or by the bottle. Our service was started with carpaccio (for those of you that are fans, it was more creamy, and less citrus). If you got a soup, they poured it at your table - a very nice touch to the table service! This was a small issue, but we did have our main course come out before we were finished with our appetizer, which made us feel rushed - again, this was a small inconvenience. I ordered the 18oz bone in ribeye. Something really unique about this place is their assortment of knives. I thought it was fun and creative when I found out they let you pick the steak knife of your choosing! Our steaks came out great - cooked medium rare just like we like it. The filet that we also had was cooked perfectly. If you love steak as much as I do then you will appreciate the wood fire flavor that this adds to the steak. By far, this steakhouse has nailed the wood fire flavors of Smokey and sweet to the steaks they put out. You do not get the nutty flavor from most dry aged steaks from places such as Fleming's or 801, but then again they don't have the Smokey flavor that J.Gilbert's has artfully mastered. A note on the sides we had: the wild mushrooms with truffle, for the $3 up charge was not worth it. The truffle barely makes it to your palate, and the flavors in the dish felt masked by the overwhelming amount of butter. The mashed potatoes were okay - if you want amazing mashed potatoes I'd try for Fleming's (a lot more creaminess and flavor to it). As for the asparagus - there were 4 spears, strong Smokey flavor which I liked, but nothing amazing. Overall, a 4/5 - the sides were not spectacular, but you come here for steak, and they nail it when it comes to wood fired ribeyes and filets. read more

Stopped in on day 4 since their opening. I had made reservations earlier for dinner. We were told there was complimentary valet starting promptly at 5:00 and intended on using it however we arrived at 4:50 and were lucky enough to score a spot in the street directly in front of their door. Once inside we were warmly welcomed and escorted to our table. The restaurant itself is cozy and had an upscale feel. Our waiter Ryan was awesome! He took great care of us and was very knowledgeable with the menu and friendly. A manager also stopped by our table after we ordered our drinks and was also very welcoming and friendly. I wished he had introduced himself I had just assumed he was a manager due to the way he was dressed and his welcoming demeanor. He actually stopped by a second time and I asked his name and it was then he introduced himself as Roland Day and was indeed a manager. I really liked the music playing in the restaurant. It was a mixture of classic oldies and somehow everyone was one of my favorites, and an occasional Sinatra type song/music that reminded you that you were in a steakhouse! Loved it. They do not have live music similar to the one in Kansas City (I'm told) but they are intending to add this soon! For an appetizer we ordered the Blue Cheese Potato Chips which were hand cut and fried. They were brought to the table in a dish and they poured the creamy blue cheese sauce on them at the table! They were very good! The bread they serve before your meal was also very good! I loved the crunchy crust on it. I ordered the Mesquite Grilled 1/2 Chicken and for sides I had the Creamed Corn with Bacon and the Poblano Au Gratin Potatoes. I also decided to order the Wild Mushrooms with Truffle Butter as a side knowing they would be great with my leftover chicken. ( I rarely finish an entire meal!) Just moments before my meal arrived I was presented with a tray of different cutting knives to pick from for my meal. Seemed a bit odd but also was a fun touch. My chicken was delicious...wonderful mesquite flavor smoked with Missouri Pecan firewood! The corn was amazing. Freshly cut from the cob and I swear I groaned with each bite ha ha!! The Poblano Potatoes were also very good and the mushrooms were terrific! I like mushrooms cooked so they are a bit crispy and these were just that! My dining partner had the Blackened Chicken Penne which she said was delicious. Although she didn't care much for the red pepper pesto that came on top (personal taste) she loved the dish! We were too full to order dessert but did break down and get the 7 Layer Coconut Cake to go and it too was amazing! Note to self: Would love to try the Fruit Croustade next time! The only thing I wished for in this meal was basic salt and pepper on the tables. (there was course smoked salt I believe on the table) I'm sure most dishes are seasoned well (ours was) but not everyone's palate is the same and had we had it I would have used a bit of it. Took wife here for anniversary. Great place if you don't want stuffy steakhouse ambiance. However, the food is VERY impressive. Once had the filet here and one year later its exactly how it was remembered. Personally, this place may be the hidden gem for red meat! Service was great. Baked potatoes are dowsed quite well with salt on skin. Loaded is the way to go. Only thing that may interrupt is hotel occupants come in/out quite a bit from side doors. I enjoyed a great meal at J Gilberts after looking at many different downtown steakhouses. Most of them had steaks that started at $40 without any sides and then ridiculous prices for sides. Here the steaks come with your choice of two sides. Phillip took great care of me on my visit. I started with a wedge salad with a really tasty buttermilk blue cheese dressing. My entree was a 6 ounce filet and it was just the right size for my taste. Green beans were good but the brisket burnt ends mac and cheese stole the show. AMAZING from beginning to end. We just got back from a trip to the pacific coast where we enjoyed our fair share of amazing seafood, then had to drive through Nebraska for work, and stopped at this restaurant. Hands down the crab cakes and scallops were better than anything we had in the pacific coast, and I have to say the crab cakes match some of the best crab cakes we've had in the Maryland area. From appetizers to deserts, we couldn't have been happier. My husband had the filet which he absolutely loved. I had the scallop and lobster risotto entree. We finished with the chocolate cake. We are back home now and I'm still dreaming of that meal. We drive through Nebraska at least once a year and we will be intentionally stopping here just for dinner. Melanie was an awesome server. What a beautiful restaurant! Walking in, I was greeted with high ceilings and a clean, modern atmosphere that was really welcoming. I took a seat at the bar and Holly took excellent care of me. Outstanding service! Ordered the Caesar Salad and the 8oz Filet w/ Crab Cakes. For my sides I chose the Poblano Au Gratin Potatoes and Green Beans w/ Pecans. The steak came out to the perfect medium-rare that I enjoy. The crab cakes were excellent. Unlike other cakes that usually have more bread than the crab meat, I want to say that their crab cakes consisted of all crab meat. Yum! Really great flavor and place but perhaps a bit over-priced and over-hyped. After reading the reviews I half-expected to be served by alluring sirens while floating transcendently above wood-fired eternity. Alas our server was some guy who was pretty knowledgeable about wine and gave great recommendations. While not exactly an enchantress he was more than good enough. Great service in fact - we felt in good hands. The appetizers, particularly the onion rings, were to die for tasty. Huge props to the kitchen on those. And the green beans...wow. Who raves about green beans?! you may be asking. People who eat them here, that's who. Our entrees were also quite good, though the fries were oddly basic. Kind of like McDonald's or Freddy's fries but with less seasoning. It was an unusual lack of seasoning and flavor given the creative, flavorful nature of everything else. The decor was modern upscale, no more and no less. I didn't try the cocktails but the menu was creatively affixed to an old bourbon bottle so that was a neat touch. I knew it wasn't a cheap meal, and that's fine. We like nice places and happily pay for them when that's our mood. But when I got the bill it just felt like too much somehow. Don't know why, and of course I could've been tallying things up as I went along so it's not like it's the restaurant's fault, but purely by experience and feel I just had the sense that what we had (while great) shouldn't have cost that much. Minor point since, again, it's up to us to read the menu and prices. Would we come back? Definitely. I'd just make sure to have my price expectations in line first. read more

We went here Saturday night for my husband's birthday. We were hoping to have a great steak but were sadly disappointed. We started off with the old fashion - Bonefish's is better but it was fine. We also had the spicy mango margarita drink which would have been much better had it been cold. For an appetizer we got the calamari which was delicious!! The house salad was also great. Our group ordered two filets and two ribeyes. My husband's ribeye was way overcooked and one of the filets as well. We verbalized this to our waiter and left a piece to show (he didn't come back to check on us in time to make him aware so they could replace it) when he came to clear our plates - he was unbothered and did nothing about it. For this reason alone, we will not be back. I noted a review on open table where they had mentioned their steak was overdone a day prior. Consistently overcooking steaks at a steakhouse? Hm. Chocolate cake was mediocre, carrot cake was good. Overall, SO overpriced for what it is. We sadly won't be back. read more

I am so excited for this place to open! Best steak ever! Our server was very nice and made suggestions. We started with a charcuterie board. Hit the spot. Ordered the filet with two sides. I chose Brussels sprouts and lobster Mac and cheese. Everything was melt in your mouth good. There is a house made steak sauce on the table and you start off with homemade bread. I thought the fact you get to pick your own steak knife was totally cool and unique. Highlight of my night! You are not hungry when you leave. The carrot cake is delightful. It is a little more expensive then a normal meal, but it's worth it! I saw a plate of HUGE onion rings walk by, I'll be back for those! The perfect spot to have a date or a girls night. Food was good and the bartender with the beard, if I remember correctly his name was frank was cool at first. But it took absolutely forever for him to give me service after our first interaction. What really bothered me is that I noticed he had time to take shots with other guests while several of us were being neglected. That doesn't seem like a place to be taking shots while you're working. Ended up getting help from the other staff behind the bar which was nice. I would probably come back eventually but would prefer to sit in the dining room if thats how the bar staff is going to act. read more

My husband and I ate here on a whim and we were not disappointed! The drinks were fantastic. I had a kettle one martini (pictured) with the best bleu cheese stuffed olives. And my husband had their smoked old fashioned which was served by pouring it at the table with the smoke still in the serving glass. Both drinks were excellent. Both my husband and I did the prie fixe menu. I had the wedge salad (pictured) and my husband had the Caesar. The wedge salad had bleu cheese crumbles and house made buttermilk bleu cheese dressing. Very good. We each got a 4 oz filet, and we split our sides of scallops/shrimp (pictured). If I could take 1/4 of a star off for the shrimp being on the tough side (still very tasty) and the steaks not being quite prepared to order, I would. But definitely not worth losing a whole star. The steaks were still very tender and delicious. The mashed potatoes and asparagus my husband had as sides were pretty standard. Good, but nothing to get too excited about. The pecan green beans and poblano potato au gratin (both pictured) I got however, were fantastic! For dessert, we got the cheesecake with seasonal strawberry compote and the carrot cake. Both house made and extremely tasty! The salads, entrees, and dessert were all included in the prix fixe menu for $45, which is a bargain! They also have another tier at $55. All in all, very reasonable price points for the quality. The service was outstanding as well. We never waited longer than necessary for anything. And the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. I highly recommend J. Gilbert's and we will definitely be going back!! read more

Under whelmed by service and atmosphere but great food. It was tough giving this food the 3 stars, however our server and lack of professional experience, kind of ruined this place. First off the atmosphere is hindered by traffic coming in and out of the hotel to the restaurant through the dining area. Second, our server was to personal with us and over shared. Lastly, our table was a four top but could barley hold our bottle of wine, appetizer and bread. The best side dish we had was the Cream Corn. This place never disappoints. My go to is the 6 oz. filet with scallops, this time I ordered the bourbon maple shrimp instead and it was dynamite, so much meat and excellent flavor. Filet was cooked perfectly as expected, (I prefer medium rare but order medium at J. Gilbert's) melts in your mouth! Unbelievably tasty. The crab bisque was to die for, first time ordering and will definitely be getting again. If you like scalloped potatoes, the au gratins are a must!
