I love coming here for Happy Hour. It's rarely busy during this time so there's typically no wait to sit in the bar area and the service is very attentive. I always, ALWAYS, start with a bowl of French Onion Soup, then typically either get the burger or Prime Dip combo - both of which are excellent and a steal including a drink for $16. On our one dinner here we began with a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail that contained shrimps that were meaty but not sweet at all, followed by delightful chunky New England Clam Chowder for Diane, and excellent cheesy French Onion Soup for me. The Shrimp Cocktail came with Bloody Mary Sauce and Mustard Aioli. Complimentary rustic Bread & Whipped Butter was another good starter. Next I had a complex Signature Chopped Salad with cubes of Feta Cheese and Champagne Vinaigrette Dressing. For my entree I ordered the Seasonal Specialty Prime Beef Meatloaf with great Bacon-Bourbon Gravy, Yukon Mashed Potatoes, and perfectly cooked Sugar Snap Peas. The quantity of Meatloaf and and Mashed Potatoes was huge, but the Mashed Potatoes were supposed to have been served on the side for both of us to share rather than on my entree plate. Otherwise, service was excellent, and the ambiance elegant and upscale. For her main Diane ordered the Feature of the Day, which was lightly breaded Panko-Crusted Striped Bass with Drawn Butter, and accompanied by Spencer's Fries: French Fries with Sea Salt, Garlic-Parmesan and fines herbs. I travel a bit and have ended up at Spencer's for dinner or an after dinner drink. They have always been great with both food and service. Tonight, I came in for a beverage after dinner and immediately after I ordered, the bar filled up. The GM and manager (and everyone else) stepped up to assist. I witnessed a master class in teamwork and leadership. Every guest was taken care of (including me) and felt they were important. Amazing experience! read more

We were staying at this hotel on the first night in Omaha. We wanted a quick dinner so we just popped down to the restaurant in the lobby. one side of the restaurant was a dimly lit steakhouse vibe, and we sat in the bar, which was a little more bright and active. I ordered the beef sandwich. It came with french fries which were good, but the beef itself was very bland and not even you could help. The bun was dry and there was a little bit of horseradish on top, but it really was kind of a meh sandwich. The bartender was serving us and she was great! She provided good service and was very welcoming, but I don't know that I would go in here again for food - maybe just drinks. read more

So let me say this establishment is good. The decor has a sophisticated 20s vibe. The servers are tidy and personable. Drinks are tasty my husband has a manhattan and I the mango Prosecco. My husband started the wedge which was a good one, I got the butternut soup, I was dissatisfied with it as I felt like it had too much of a tomato soup taste which I do not care for tomato soup. The bread had a stale after taste that I couldn't get past to want to continue eating more which is a shame as I enjoy a bread option. My first impression? Yikes. We're staying at the hotel CONNECTED to the steakhouse. We walk in (a group of four) and we hear one of the ladies whisper to another gentleman, "where did all these people come from?" The drinks were also fantastic and the food was mediocre but for the price and "steakhouse" ambiance well worth it!! I went to Spencer's right around closing time as I was staying in the hotel upstairs and needed something to tide me over until the morning. This place is a classic steakhouse, big wooden booths with mahogany colored seats, lower lighting, black and white photos on the wall. It felt very Omaha. I ended up just ordering some fries and some red wine followed by some ice cream (weird combo I know but it's what my heart wanted!). The fries were PERFECT; I'm a sucker for a good shoestring and these did not disappoint. The wine list is really great as well with plenty of options by the glass. Despite it being toward the end of the night, the service was still really prompt and friendly. They have a great bar area which was nice and quiet and away from the larger parties in the dining room. Each meal comes with a salad that is pretty filling. However, whenever Monica and I see Sweet Potato Fries on a menu, we have to try them. These were really good. Their honey/cinnamon flavor is surprisingly delicious. The only downside was the Ketchup. In retrospect, I wish we would have ordered BBQ sauce. We ended up eating the fries without the Ketchup because they were better without Ketchup than with Ketchup. Roasted Chicken - I had the Roasted Chicken for my meal. It was great. I highly recommend it. It was tender, filling, and tangy. The glaze that comes over the chicken gives it a memorable taste that will make you consume all of it and ask for more. The chicken comes with a medley of carrots, Brussel sprouts, and another meat (that I cannot remember its name). The medley is good and is a great complement to the chicken. Pro Tip: Whenever ordering fries, get their BBQ sauce not their ketchup. Their Ketchup isn't that great. Wow, this place. We came here for our one year anniversary and could not have made a better decision. They sat us in a private booth that was cozy and intimate. The music was jazzy, and our waiter Michael was AMAZING. So helpful in pairing a wine to the dish I wanted, and gave us some fun recommendations for music festivals! The salmon was tender and paired perfectly with the white white and risotto. We also ordered the spicy sweet potato fries, which as a stand alone was a huge serving and actually seasoned so well it didn't even need the chipotle ketchup. The surprise of this meal was 100% the house salad that's complementary with the meal. The champagne vinaigrette steals the show and the toppings knock it out of the park. Just had the most absurd and enraging experience at Spencer's. We reserved a table for 8 in their back room and our server was Michael. We were celebrating a 40th birthday. This was by far the worst server I've ever experienced. First of all he read the entire menu to us word for word I'm not exaggerating he literally read it to us like we were a room of illiterates. It took 15 minutes. We tried to stop him, he could not be stopped. This was a special occasion and each of us were saying a few words about the birthday girl. Each of us was interrupted by Michael. Jokes, stories about his other customers, a sales pitch to up-sell us wine..The man could not read the room. And definitely could not stop talking. Then the medium rare steaks arrived medium well with no pink. But the best part: three of us were charged the full bill each (paying over $1500) and each of us was charged the correct amount as well. So three people in the party were charged $100 AND $600, but were only given the credit card slip for the $100. Fraud alerts and calls from banks capped what was supposed to be a special night but turned out to be a total debacle. Good job, Michael. read more

Came here on a Saturday at 4pm right when the bar opened for happy hour. I ordered an apple cider old fashioned which was nice and sweet and came with a slice of dried apple. For dinner, I ordered the steak frites, cooked medium. The steak was super tender and flavorful even for the cheaper option. They asked to cut the steak in the middle right when you get it to make sure it's cooked right for you. There were tons of fries with a garlic aioli. The steak was also covered in a Bearnaise sauce that was great with a bunch of cracked black pepper in it. It was tons of food for a good price. While we had a good meal, I don't know that it was a great meal and for what it cost for two people to have an appetizer, two mains, and one of the least expensive bottles of wine ($300), I expected more. The steak carpaccio as an appetizer was incredible. Our bottle of wine was quite good, as were our waiter's other wine recommendations, although I did feel like our waiter kept trying to upsell us to another bottle of wine. Now to the main course: the steaks. While they were well cooked to our temperature requests, they didn't knock my socks off, which is sort of what you expect from an establishment like this. I was told by many that you can't come to Omaha without trying a steak. I was traveling with a group from work and so we decided to splurge and try out Spencer's which was right across the street from our hotel. We made a reservation beforehand and when we arrived they escorted us to a group area towards the back of the restaurant where we had a large room to ourselves. Our reservation was near their closing time so we did stay a little after they closed up the restaurant to finish our meals but the staff were all very kind and didn't rush our experience. For appetizers we ordered the ala carte fries and brussels sprouts (as highly recommended by the staff) which we shared among the table. There was also warm house bread and butter that was brought out to our table. We were off to an excellent start, the appetizers were so delicious and left us satisfied but also eager for our entrees. I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon which was hands down the best steak I've ever tried, cooked and seasoned to perfection. The consensus among the group was that the food and service was incredible and that we could not have chosen a better place for a steak dinner. The appetizers and our entrees came together to create the perfect meal and just the right amount of food. It was a fancy and upscale experience and well worth the price. I came here while on a work trip and it was my first time in NE and decided I wanted some steak tonight as Omaha is known for their steaks. I decided to sit and eat at the bar and the bartender was super helpful as far as suggestions on what to get and even drinks. She was super friendly and always made sure to check on me whenever she got time as she was pretty busy. I started off with the crab cakes which was great with the sauce that had with it. I even had to ask for extra sauce because I love sauces. Next I had the filet mignon medium rare with the black truffle butter on top with the half order of the Yukon mashed potatoes (the full order is good for maybe a big group of family). Steak was cooked perfectly and flavorful. One of the best steaks I have ever had. I would definitely go back to Spencers if I am back in town and recommend everybody try this place. read more

Their house salad with champagne vinaigrette was cool, crisp, and full of flavor refreshing. Spence Manhattans martini style were just enough on the sweet with a nice stiff punch. Had the Spencer steak, a boneless ribeye with black truffle butter $10 extra, realized I never got the butter. We were on our second bottle of red, and I had two manhattan's already so was not quite thinking about it. Steak was cooked perfect rare, lightly seasoned, but I didn't taste anything special in the meat being local Omaha beef. I expected more for the $60 price. After the steak and wine, the desserts were a blur. The apple pie seemed to have thousands of thinly slice apples and cooked tender sweet, a big hunky slice for I would say 3-4 people after a steak meal. Marissa is the lovely hostess, who came around our table to always make sure we had enough water to stay hydrated while having steak and lots of wine. The Spencer salad might be one of my favorite salads that was enhanced by Marissa cracking fresh black pepper. read more

I visited Spencer's, located in the Hilton Garden Inn off of Dodge Street and 10th. Parking is validated if you park in their indoor structure and show your server your parking receipt. Service was excellent tonight. Looking at past Yelp responses, there were a few upset Yelpers regarding poor service. There was no poor service tonight. From the start, our server was very attentive and responsive. The drink orders, bread, and salad were quickly delivered. The entrees were also brought out very quickly. The filet was butterflied which did not affect the tenderness or taste. The side dish was Yukon mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. The dessert was their homemade apple pie pastry with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which neither one of us could finish. We let our server know the response and attention was perfect. At the end, your server will trade your parking receipt for a room card that allows the gate to open. Prices overall are on the higher side but that is to be expected, based on the quality of the food and great service. read more

Quickly seated by the friendly hostess; service was good - highlighted specials, attentive but not overly so. Sometimes I go out for a meal and everything just seems to be spot on, from the service to the food, my dinner at Spencer's this week was one of those times. This was my first meal out with clients in a while due to covid, so I was ready to enjoy an evening out. First, we sat at the bar for a drink, and the bartender did a great job with our cocktails, they also had some nice local beers in tap. We were seated and ordered a few appetizers of crab cakes and calamari, both were excellent. All four of us ordered a steak of some kind, either the filet or the strip. My filet was cooked to medium perfection, and was seasoned very nicely. We ordered three shareable side, Brussels sprouts with smoked ham, loaded hashbrowns, and smoked gouda mac and cheese with lobster. All were excellent, but I'd have to say the mac and cheese was the best of the lot. No room for desert, but the desert menu did look pretty good. We all really our meals. I had the 30 dry aged NY Strip. It was very tasteful although I would have it cooked a little more rare as dry aged beef seems to be a bit drier than non dry aged beef . And since much of the corn has been harvested, my wish of eating a steak in a cornfield just didn't pan out But at the recommendation of many, I headed to Spencer's....and left missing Tampa's steakhouses I guess my expectations of eating a steak in Omaha were extremely high. Truth be told, not 100% sure why. I just associate the Midwest with beef-- after all, I did come across a store that was called "meat and beer". The Beef tartare was good.. but the egg salad that accompanied it was even better. My NY strip was not as tender as I thought it would be.. and missing salt. Actually, everything I tried was missing some salt. This place reminds me of the old Sam Seltzer's in Tampa.. old school charm, maybe the best in the 90s... but a far cry from what a good steak is now. The company made this a better dining experience than what I think it would have otherwise been. Just the everyday father giving you his perspective...what you do with it is completely up to you. Pricy but well worth it... It's a steakhouse, and a really fancy one at that. Located outside of Downtown Omaha, this restaurant is attached to an upscale hotel, but does have a storefront that faces downtown streets. The service was relatively attentive, not overly friendly or talkative, though they still did the job well. The food was top-notch with the exception of my wife's filet minion. The steak frites and the sides of a loaded hash brown and asparagus were exceptional. But the filet minion left much to be desired. We should have sent it back but we got the impression that would not have been well received. Anyway, it was still edible and the sides made up for it. Overall, I'm sure there are many that will swear to this place. For us, it was nice to have at least experienced it once. read more

Spencer's is hands down "as good as it gets!" for years and years now...my "go to" in Omaha. The filet mignon is exceptional; I usually request it my "medium rare" and do it "Oscar" style which they do crab or sometimes lobster. "Photos are worth a 1000 words here, indeed," and that's a compliment to the kitchen who always makes certain that the food is plated cleanly/nicely. The ambiance is "steakhouse classic" with warm and deep wood tones, dark red leather booths, white table clothes, gleaming silverware, candle-lit-lighting and big band era/Sinatra etc music playing at the appropriate volume. The service is that perfect mix of professional and personable. I always am made to feel right at home and I appreciate that. My only beef is that they are not open for lunch. read more
