I was able to snag a sweet cream in a pretzel flavor cone. Good but not great. I felt that the sweet cream didn't have enough vanilla flavor in it and it was very very thick. However the combination of the pretzel cone to the sweet cream gave it a good sweet to salty combination that I very much enjoyed. If I'm ever craving for some dessert, this is my spot. The variety of flavors of ice cream and types of ice cream dishes you can get is great. I also recommend signing up for their membership card because you somewhat regularly get a free small sundae or something for your birthday or for your anniversary or opening your card. Their small sundaes and bowls definitely aren't small, they don't skimp you. The restaurant itself is clean and the staff is very friendly. Ordered some ice cream tonight and me and my girlfriend were excited for it. We loved coming to our neighborhood J.P. during the summer and were wanting some dessert and thought we'd order some for the first time during this pandemic. We called in advanced and ordered pistachio ice cream with sprinkles and vegan chocolate. When I picked it up the pistachio didn't have the sprinkles but not a big deal, wasn't going to go through the extra trouble of adding them now. Waited to get back to our place only to find out it was regular chocolate ice cream and not vegan. My gf is lactose-intolerant so she wasn't able to enjoy it and we weren't going to walk all the way back to fix it. It's a shame to spend $6 on a scoop of ice cream and have that happen:/ read more

So glad J.P Licks was still open after the fireworks this evening on the 4th of July! Walking back to the car, we noticed a huge line inside and had to go in before heading home. I was glad to see the employees still smiling and not showing customers any frustrated countenance whatsoever so the staff deserves some props. I got the new Strawberry Rhubarb and Fresh Cucumber Ice cream and I think I just created an excellent combo! The rhubarb perfectly complimenting the sweet, creamy strawberry just satisfies your sweet tooth but then leaves you a little parched (ice cream does this!) so that's where the cucumber ice cream comes in, so icy yet smooth, light and refreshing cucumber flavor with actual cucumber pieces finishes off your palate and that cycle continues until the very last mixed spoonful. It was just perfect... I must point out that J.P. Licks's ice cream melts a lot faster as it isn't at thick & solid but their ice cream is still really good! read more

I decided to get the coconut almond chip, which was light and tastes very coconutty with whole almonds mixed in. Such a delicious ice cream and not too overpowering or rich. Disclaimer: I've only had their dairy-free ice cream offerings, but I can happily report that they are rich, creamy, and one of my favorite treats! Find me here when I'm feeling low, or when I just need a sweet and creamy pick-me-up. It's brightly lit, and I've even gone here a few times to study on their cow-spot of a table...ice cream by my side, of course. The employees are more than happy to provide little sample spoons to try before you decide (and boy, do I take my time deciding...) so there's no way to be unhappy with what you've chosen. Oh Boston, I miss you. This place has the best ice cream, EVER. I'm from NY, and I've had pretty much any "artisan" ice cream you can find in Manhattan but I keep thinking about this place. The ice cream here is incredibly thick and creamy. It's texture makes it so decadent but not overly. If someone could find the right word to describe this ice cream, I'd fly out to Boston right now and personally thank them so I can find ice cream like this in NY. Licks was some of the most unique, flavorful ice cream I've had in a long time, even if it is a little pricey I think it is 100% worth it. Me and my friends stopped by here on the way to Newbury Street from our apartment. I'm sure glad we did, the ice cream was amazing, and they had such a variety of flavors I've never even seen before. London Fog was my personal favorite, a coffee flavored ice cream with hints of lavender. My raging sweet tooth usually leads me into patisseries and twee bakeries, sometimes chocolate shops, but factor in summer heat - and I only have eyes for ice cream. This time, only JP Licks would do. After seeing them listed on multiple 'best ice cream in Boston' lists, I trucked past plenty of gelato shops and froyo parlours, until I hit JP Licks. It was absolutely worth the trip. I had a sugar cone with half brownie batter, half raspberry linzer - both were marvelous. The brownie one is as intensely rich and gooey as you might expect, while the linzer had chunks of cookie and a raspberry swirl. My husband had the coffee cookies and cream, combining his two all-time favorite flavors into one. This flavor - definitely greater than the sum of its parts, to misquote noted ice-cream aficionado, Aristotle. While writing this review, I visited the JP Licks website, to see what sort of October flavors they have. This was a bad idea, as I am now saddened that this ice cream is 400+ miles away. read more

I spent entirely too long without a J.P. Licks nearby, after the one on Newbury had to close, but happily I was walking home the other day and found this one was already open! What a perfect day for ice cream (for the record: a mid-February night, windy with snow coming at 25 )! The place smelled new, new paint, new chairs, new everything. It practically begged for sticky drips of melted ice cream and stray sprinkles, and i was eager to help as best i could. The people working there were enthusiastic and cheerful (as i've found to be typical of them), and they had the usual array of flavors both with and without Oreos (so they're a bit idiosyncratic). Only potential downside? It's very narrow, with a clever little yellow line separating the line in with the line out and to pay. Something tells me this is going to get messy during baseball season, so everybody be nice and stay to the right. But except maybe for those 81 days, i am going to be more tempted than ever to have ice cream for dinner. read more

Discovered this place during my last work trip to Boston and I went three nights in a row to get ice cream!! The location I went to was fairly small but your typical ice cream shop look and feel. What's cool about this place is that they offer a lot of different options and substitutes if you don't feel like you can eat full fat ice cream or if you are vegan or lactose intolerant. I also love crazy and unique flavors and they certainly have an abundance. The first time I went I just got a scoop of ice cream - half salted caramel cookies and cream and half apple crisp in a cup. Both flavors are on their seasonal menu right now and both were INCREDIBLE. Also paired very well together in my opinion. Ice cream texture was very smooth and creamy and very evenly blended as far as the flavor mix ins. The second night I got a small soft serve twist on a cake cone - blackberry and plain. It tasted more like froyo than soft swerve, tangy and a bit icy vs. true creamy but still very delicious and super refreshing. Third night I went back for the salted caramel cookies and cream but also got pistachio based on the recommendation of one of the staff working on a cake cone. The pistachio was white base instead of green and tasted real, not artificial. That's how you know this is the real deal! read more

The ice cream tastes great with a creamery-than-usual texture. It's so thick -- on the custard-y side. I ordered the cookies and cake batter flavor; it was more cookies than cake batter, but still delicious. There is a good amount of seating for groups of 3-4. The ice cream here is amazing. I got the peanut butter cookies & cream. However the three stars comes from one of the employees.
