Great poker room, great promotions, great dealers, the best place in Reno to play live poker!

This used to be one of my favorite places to play poker. I had not been back here in probably 2 years mostly because PM charges too much for their "free" rooms. They remodeled the room/ tables. I miss those red cushy seats. New ones are not nearly as comfortable. They did not keep or revamp the USB chargers underneath the tables. I found a couple but they were not working. I wish they kept them because it is very convenient to charge your phone when you sit there for hours. I play limit 3/6, the cheap persons game and was asked to pay $5 when I sat down. I guess now instead of taking a rake and a small blind, they ask all players to pay $5 fee so to speak every half hour when new dealer shows up. They say its cheaper for the player and maybe it is but I don't like it. Not having both blinds make the pots smaller and action a little less. Not sure if the no limit tables have the same rate but $5 every half hour is steep if you are not catching anything over time. The buy-in is $30 and in 3 hours that would be gone without the chance of winning it back. The other thing I don't like is that they now deal cards to an empty seat if the player gets up. This isn't Pai Gow. This game makes a huge difference when someone leaves or stays. Its also a waste of motion for the dealer. The practice was also not consistent among dealers so not sure what their rule is??? On that note, many of the dealers were not personable. I expect a thank you or simple tap of the table if you get a tip. This was not the case. One player pushed the entire pot to the dealer and he acted like he got .50 cents with a shrug. I also expect a full answer when I ask you about current promotions because I am not from here. A simple send off and welcome in between dealers esp when you are asking me to pay you five bucks. There was only two dealers who offered any kind of customer service in the 6-8 hrs played that week. Now the poker room supervisor/managers on the other hand were great!! They keep the room moving and attentive to customers. They even remembered my name when I came back the next day. And thankfully there is still a self service drink station in the corner. read more

Very nice poker room in segregated part of the casino close to where Oceano restaurant is located. There is a good mix of tables and limits and was busy, but not overcrowded during the times I passed by. They had many signs promoting that they comped poker players $2/hr of play, though I can't speak to that as I'm not a poker player and not sure if that is better than other poker rooms. The room is very clean with TV's located in multiple areas and the restrooms located just outside one edge of the room. I'm sure just like Peppermill, this room is full of locals so maybe watch for a bit and get a feel for the players and room before jumping in. read more

I had a dealer say to me that "we only speak English here, and we act like adults." There was nothing I had done or said that warranted such a response. I was having a good time, which seems to be the impetus of his "and we act like adults comment," because I could honestly find nothing else that would provoke such an aggressive and unprovoked response. I literally had responded to another gentleman, who was having a great time, that it was a great night and I was happy he was having fun (in Spanish), and had the dealer respond with the response quoted. I found the response entirely unwarranted and offensive as to no longer wish to play at the table. I had played here before, but never found the welcoming atmosphere that I found when I play at GSR. The casino is MUCH more welcoming to new players. Great place to play! read more

I have played in just about every poker room in Nevada and the room at Peppermill is definitely the best. First off, the room itself is fantastic following the 2011 renovation. It's got 19 tables with over 30 TVs and always the best action in Reno. The Peppermill has also made a point to set the standard when it comes to rake. Over the last decade, they have constantly been the cheapest at the $5 blind level. A big part of the reason for this room's success is the staff. The room is led by former poker pro Mike Nelson, who is one of the hardest working and most progressive poker room managers you will fold. He is a big part of why Run it up Reno has become internationally known. The room is also managed by Rena Albertazzi and Cathi Wood, who do an amazing job handling the room's high volume of players and keeping the games running on a daily basis. The dealers are also great. Long time favorites like Brett, Len, Eric, and Stormy deal fast and make the atmosphere great. The games are best Thursday thru Sunday, but that doesn't mean those are the only days there will be action. Lately there have been games seven days a week. read more

A great poker room! They have a variety of games including 3/6 limit hold 'em, no limit hold 'em, as well as stud and PLO. The staff is nice and very helpful and the dealers are very knowledgable and friendly. If you put your name on the game list, they will text you when a seat is open, which is really convenient. Soft drinks and coffee are complimentary and the cocktail waitress comes by frequently. I've played all over Reno, the Bay Area and Vegas, and this is my preferred poker room. Really rude dealers. I come to the Peppermill regularly. Having played in live poker rooms throughout California, especially Tahoe for the past 50 years, I can tell you some dealers are nice, but several are rushed, rude, arrogant and it won't be a nice experience. It's a shame. read more

Peppermill poker room , anything other than a must move to a main game is unfair. It incentives the sharks to follow fish," bum hunting " , which leads to games breaking. If there is a good game you are unlikely to ever get a seat in it because the list is so long. It's not posted so non locals do not know to put themselves on other lists of the same size blind game, which provides an unfair advantage to locals / regs. It's an unfair system. read more

Top notch poker room. Very helpful staff. A comfortable environment complete with complimentary bottled water and refreshments. You have the option to order food from their wonderful restaurants so you can enjoy some Orange Blossom Chicken from Chi while you go "All-In". Excellent experience and very enjoyable. Beware though....I've observed some players get in trouble because there are strict rules for things like not paying attention and betting out of turn. The players were friendly enough and the games were run well. The Peppermill recently finished a major upgrade to their previous poker room in time for the Heartland Poker Tour and Jennifer Harmon charity tournaments. The previous room felt a bit like a dungeon with lighting hand right above tables and was separated from the main casino floor by a 3 foot, curved rail. I appreciated the dim lighting, but hated the incursion of smoke that frequently accompanied the room and other noise from passersby. The new room is a real thing of beauty. I'm told that the owners did a study of some of the nicer Vegas poker rooms like the Venetian, Wynn and Aria in order to build a room similar to their high-fallutin standards. I'd say they succeeded. The new room is mostly enclosed by glass and includes a high stakes/tournament sub-area. With 19 tables, it is the largest poker room in the Reno-Sparks area. The room features expensive chairs (1000 each is the rumor, probably true), very high ceilings, many nice wood features, a shiny metallic red ceiling, numerous large screen TVs (including a massive one in the room's center), a high stakes/tournament sub-room in the back and nice compartmentalization away from cigarette smoke. Part of the initial opening hoopla and recent tournament traffic is in effect, so it's hard to tell what the eventual stable traffic levels will be, but for now it's the busiest room in town. (Opening day was Cinco de Mayo this year). The room features a beverage bar with coffee, tea and sodas as well as soup that is all self-serve and complimentary. Before the new room opening, the Peppermill had the best game variety in town. While many rooms only spread 1-2 no limit holdem, the Peppermill was spreading 2-4 limit, 3-6 limit, 6-12 limit and 15-30/20-40 limit as well as 1/2 no limit. They also had a regular HORSE and Razz games. Now you'll find 2-3 no limit added to the mix. I assume they get a stud game at times as well. The room isn't run efficiently and there are numerous delays and problems with their waiting list management, the biggest issue being that they realize that T-mobile text messages don't go through, yet they do little about it. I don't know, but I've been told that Verizon paid for a signal booster to be place in the Peppermill whereas T-mobile wanted the Peppermill to pay for the device and they wouldn't. Quality of dealers is worse than average for the area. Numerous mistakes have required me to closely watch dealers to make sure pots and bets are the correct amount AND that pots go to the correct person. I've found late on weekday nights (like 2-3 a.m.) 2 games of 1-2 no limit holdem and one game of 2-3 no limit holdem on more than one occasion. Not bad. I suspect the Peppermill is stealing some of the traffic from nearby Atlantis. I know they've gotten some traffic from the GSR poker room, but given GSR's far superior compensation, I can say that the GSR will probably get them back. There's also two nice lounge areas nearby screens displaying wait lists and table/game availabilities with overstuffed chairs and couches. I remain unimpressed with the competence and helpfulness of the floor staff. Standing around the main desk and being surprised by customers needing help or having difficulty helping two in succession with grace is not the way to run a room. You need to do better. read more

As background, I play in casino poker rooms from Vegas to Reno, as well as many poker rooms in the Bay Area and Sacramento. The Peppermill Poker Room is now the best! Here is why: 1-Cash games have more action and it costs you less to play! -First, there are no longer any small blind antes in the NL cash games which has resulted in more action and bigger pots! -Second, you only pay based on time, which saves you money! -Third, everything is first class--the managers, the dealers, the floor, the TVs, and even the chairs! 2-Tourneys payout bigger than other casinos in Reno. i also play in the tourneys, and my favorite is the Saturday noon event with the $235 buy-in. This event often gets enough players where first place is $4,000+. That's a nice payday. 3-Competition is good but not great, which means it's easier for you to win! Frankly, there are some good players in Reno but as a whole they are not as good as in Vegas or the Bay Area. That means, your chance of winning here increases. And, for me, it's all about the winning! read more

The Peppermill Poker Room is my favorite poker room in Reno. It is comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and a good size. They have single card blackjack tables starting at $5, Pai Gow, 4 card poker, 3 card poker, craps, etc. The dealers are fun and will smack talk with you. The drinks come around very quickly. In fact, I normally have to suck down the last few sips as the waitress brings me my next one so she can take it away! Only drawback, just like any casino, is the smoke. During some time off mid-week I decided to make the trek to Reno and play some poker. The Peppermill poker room was a nice place to play and I'd gladly go back to donate more money to my peers. I definitely belong to the "Thinks he's better than he is" class of poker players so it's fortunate that the high-limit games are on the weekends. I played the 1-2 NL game for several hours and also joined both of the daily NL tournaments that day. The poker room is beautiful and it was a pleasure to find it non-smoking territory. Very comfortable seats, newish tables, pleasant and competent dealers. They offer free drinks and twice daily free sandwiches as well. I also enjoyed the ability to get a text/robocall when my spot on the waiting list came up freeing me to wander the casino. I don't play often in casinos, California offers plenty of places to play locally, but I'd return to the Peppermill Poker Room if I found myself in Reno again and was Bucks Up. read more

Amazing new poker room, self service drink station, adjustable chairs, kiosk to add your name to games, glass enclosed high limit/tournament area.. By far the nicest room in Northern Nevada and Northern California. Only downfall are they have the same bad dealers. Not all the dealers are bad, just a few which all room's have them. Some seem like they don't want to be there, lack of customer service, some are very slow.. Probably deals 10-15 hands a half hour.. You also have some of the locals that just love talking trash.. But you find those every where you play. The room itself is one of my top 3's. Now they just need to change the decor for the other parts of the casino.. read more

This is the best poker room in Reno. The room is large, they have the largest selection of games (3/6, to 20/40 limit, no limit games, 4/8 omaha). The restroom is SO close its very convenient when youre trying to not miss too many hands :) ...they have soup, sandwiches, coffee, soda and water for the players. The dealers are great (ok, ok... there are some grumpy ones, but hey, every poker room has em) and the tables are super comfortable. I play a lot of poker and appreciate the extra padding on the rail where i rest my arms (other cheap tables hurt my forearms and cause hand tingling). The directing staff is also very pleasant to deal with, I try to tip them when i have a good session. They also have good in house tournaments and do a big Nevada poker tournament every year (among other tourneys). If you want a pleasant poker experience, please go here first and i promise you went to the right place. That cushy rail I lean on for hours is the best part of the room for me :))) read more

Very impressed by relatively new poker room at the Peppermill. Tucked away in the back, it is a very nice place to play poker. I played in the 2-3 No Limit. Buy-In is min of $200 with no max. Players playing had, on the average, $500-$2000 range. Pots were nice sized. A mix of locals and visitors like me. They offer free sodas (via a Pepsi machine) and twice a day put out nice deli sandwiches and soup. Have free coffee and bottles of water also. You can get a rewards card for free. You give it to the dealer at the table, and they log your time in and credit $1/hr that you can use for food purchases. Very nice and elaborate food menu you can order from that includes main sandwiches and lots of sushi and rolls choices. Best I have seen at any casino/card room. Staff and dealers very friendly. Nice chairs and table. Recommended for sure, and I will return when back in Reno in the future. read more

I am strictly a seasonal tourney player and this is my favorite poker room in Reno. The structure isn't rushed like GSR and has the proper pace. Staff is very friendly and I've always see them handle rowdy customers fairly. Dealers are solid and cocktail waitress are frequent with their visits. There are usually snacks or soup out as well. I also like the idea of the big bind playing all the antes - speeds up the game a bit. read more

Visited Peppermill Poker Room for the first time in almost a year. I love the staff here. Everyone is really friendly including the dealers. Big fan. Peppermill made a recent change to go from normal rake to time rake. This is a huge improvement. Time rake is the same across all games from low stakes to high stakes. Thats so awesome. I can pay $5 to sit at the high stakes table for 30 min and take a shot or two. While this change may look more expensive to the casual viewer, they also took away the small blind. These games are only big blind games now which speeds things up a ton. No more folding to a chopped pot. I'm paying for my time and saving a small blind each orbit. Once players get the hang of this experience and compare it to others, I think they will enjoy it as much as I did. If this ever made it to Vegas, I would be so happy. Can't wait to visit Peppermill next time I am up in Reno again. Also...make sure to go to Oceano next door. The sushi is so good. read more

I have played poker in dozens of poker rooms in Las Vegas, Macau, Los Angeles, Bay Area, Sacramento and Northern Nevada. Peppermill is the best of them all and it's not even close. I have been impressed with Mike & Jimmy's success in sustaining the higher stakes action consistently every Thur-Sun. Being from Tahoe, I used to travel regularly to Vegas, LA & Northern Cal to play 5-10nl-10-25nl. Now I can just go to Reno and play in a great game in a great room. The High-Limit back room is honestly the best and most comfortable room I have ever played in. The staff also caters to the players needs with comped food & very cheap rooms comperable to Venetian suites. Never in a million years I would say this but IMO Reno over Vegas if you are looking for a weekend getaway to play 5-10nl or 30-60limit. Also, recently they spread a 10-25nl game a couple of times that was pretty nuts. I play in the game most weekends and we get a nice mix of non-boring regs, action players who travel from Truckee & Northern Cal consistety (one action dentist in particular) & randoms who walk in late night from the pits. Many Fri & Sat night games run into 7 in the morning. Anyone who plays live need to visit this room. It's the nuts read more
