Went for dinner today and had a less than optimal experience for two reasons: 1. The service was SO slow. And, our waitress never came back to check on us. 2. The kids Mac and cheese was just Kraft Mac and cheese. We know for a fact that the regular Mac and cheese isn't like that, so it was not pleasing to see this. After eating at most of the spots here on the main drag here in Roanoke, this has got to be one my favorites, not only for the name, but the food and atmosphere as well. Have been here the past 5 or so Sundays for dinner and have enjoyed my experience again and again. Get the same every week, starting with the tater tot app, which aren't normal tater tots, and rather filled with more of a mashed potato consistency and covered in queso. Then I get boneless wings, more like chicken tenders, but they are very good. The wait staff is generally younger kids, especially when I go. Went to Jack & Grill for the first time today for lunch and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I didn't get a beer but they have what seems like hundreds to choose from. I got the Green Chili cheese burger and added grilled jalapeños for some extra heat. It was delicious. The meat to bun ratio was spot on and the burger was cooked perfectly. My buddy Sam got all the sides: sweet potato fries, spicy coleslaw and smoked Mac n cheese. I do not like coleslaw and I rarely eat it but the spicy coleslaw here is really good. The fries were good and that Mac was like crack. They put chunks of smoked ham in there which actually works. We ate entirely too much but man it was so good. I want to go back and try something else from the menu because they had a lot to offer. I'll take pics next time. Please give this place a try. I would have given 5 stars but the service was pretty slow and they weren't even that busy. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and waitress...just slow. read more

My wife and I LOVE this place. We have ordered numerous items from the menu and each one has been beyond measure. The service is quick and kind, the food is great, however we have just one complaint. As two avid beer-lovers, there is nothing better than an ice cold pint. The past few times we have come here, they just haven't been very cold! This is still a worth-it place to stop. Loved this place. From the moment we entered, The atmosphere, yummy smell, and attentive staff made us feel right at home. The whole experience from start to finish was phenomenal and very much appreciated! we came in on Father's Day 40 minutes before they closed and expected cold food and rude staff rushing us out but we were truly blown away. Our server was very helpful and honest while answering many questions about the menu (you can tell making the customers happy is a priority.), the food came fast and was nice and hot! We ordered the sampler and not only was it was a very large portion for an affordable price but it also tasted heavenly! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The drinks were also very tasty and bartender really knows what she's doing ! I believe she was the server's girlfriend which made sense because they were both unbelievably awesome at their jobs. I think it was the manager who had came to ask how everything was and was very kind too. I think we ended up tipping the same amount as the bill because of how genuinely satisfied we were. Great atmosphere! Lots of TVs to watch sports, nice bar, outdoor bar and patio...food was pretty good. We had the Sriracha deviled eggs which were served with a ton of lettuce for some reason and were super spicy, the buffalo chicken wrap was good and so were the Pulled Pork Tacos. The pulled pork tacos were very filling- served with black beans but they lacked seasoning. My Ahi Tuna Nachos were the best! The tuna was perfectly seared and seasoned and they had good sized chunks on each nacho. Plating was on point. I drank two pricy cocktails and enjoyed them both. Jack and Grill is simply the best local sports bar to grab the coldest beer, freshest food and meet the friendliest staff, all at a reasonable price. There was staff ready to greet us as we walked in the door... shout out Terrance!! He was Super welcoming and making us feel at home, my family couldn't tell who was a regular and who was a first timer, he treated us all so well! Mark was quick on the drinks behind the bar, and made them very fair (GREAT pour), also seemed very connected to the folks at the bar. We arrived and the waiting area was empty. I gave my name & number to the hostess who said it would be a 15 mins wait. We watched 3 parties, drive up, park & walk in, with larger parties than ours. I watched the hostess clean a table, large enough for our party, & give it to another party who said as they were walking in, "we're probably going to have to wait awhile". The hostess acted like she was totally frustrated she couldn't get us a table, but yet was continually giving tables away. While we sat & waited, I had everyone in our party review their menu so if we ever were seated, we'd know what we wanted. Over 30 mins later, we finally were seated & the hostess tells us, "no hamburgers, no sliders." Seriously? That would have been nice to know before being seated. It took awhile but the waitress did come by & took our drink order & we also placed our food order at the same time. The service and food were just so-so. Terrible service on a slow Sunday night. Servers, and the bartender, spend more time on their phones than waiting on customers. Food ok, but nothing special. Watched freshly made drinks sit on the bar for 10+ minutes because the bartender is more into her conversation with a patron than to make sure drinks are delivered in a timely fashion. I have been here a few times in the past couple months. I typically sit at the bar, while the food is great I really appreciate the beer selection! However I was highly dissatisfied with the service from the bartender. Each time I've come I was served by a blonde thin bartender that was very rude, never smiled, and seemed very disconnected from her job. I'm sure not everyone has this same experience but I asked a lady sitting next to me and she told me that this bartender has talked about not being happy with her job. I do hope to go back to Jack and Grill as I said the food and beer selection is awesome, I should just maybe pick a different night to go on. read more

This restaurant/ bar is worth the time to visit, have a beer and wings. They are located at the south end of Main Street in Roanoke. They have seating inside and outside to take your pick based on the weather. Super nice selection of beer on tap which made my husband happy. The menu is typical bar food but order the wings as they have a nice smoky taste and grilled to perfection. We ordered the sesame teriyaki flavor wings which were lightly spiced and flavorful. We use to love Up n Smoke's (located in Keller, now closed) wings. They were the best wings but since they closed now we have had withdrawals. Jack, the owner was in site and is a hands on owner and works the tables me greets his customers. The place was slammed when we were there and the service was great. We will be back! read more

Normally, I love this place. Great beer selection, great food and great atmosphere... However, when a customer asks for something simple, you typically accommodate the request. When 30 guests ask for the same thing, you should definitely accommodate the request... This is being posted as I sit, drinking a beer at Jack's. Me and 30 other customers requested the Texas Rangers game to be put on, instead of the 2nd round of the NFL draft. Myself, along with everyone else were told no, as a "silent partner" is watching the draft and we could not have the Rangers game. Being in the customer service industry, you should try to accommodate your customers... We pay your bills, we give you your business, and we keep you in business. A change of plans brought us through Roanoke and we decided to get dinner and a few drinks. This is the third time we have been here so its due time for a review! We sat at the bar and I ordered the blackened chicken salad and she got the house salad and cup of enchilada soup. My salad was excellent and the chicken was cooked just right. It had apples veggies and chunks of bleu cheese that really tasted good with the balsamic dressing. The house salad was huge and had veggies and pecans in it and it was only 3.99. The soup was cream based and it was a little heavy but tasted good. But the best thing was the free Yelp wings we got for checking in. They had a smokey flavor and were really good! They have 53 different beers on tap here and the bartenders have always been good. The environment has been lively every time we have been here. Jack and Grille gets a big thumbs up from me. I think I need to try this a FEW more times before I give this four stars because I'm definitely on the fence. I think it is definitely a 3.5 star joint as of now. On the tab: Smoked Mac and Cheese Jack's Fries 12 Wings with Medium Sauce (Totally forgot what it was called but it's the medium one BEFORE the Jacked Up one.) The smoked mac and cheese was aiiiiiight. I mean it's no Lee's Grilled Cheese mac and cheese but it was decent with pieces of ham in it to make it slightly smokey. I found that it was a TAD soupier (It looked like it needed to sit for a few seconds longer only it was like that the WHOLE meal.) than I would prefer and the "smokey" flavor was lacking a bit. I also wish I had more of the bread crumb topping because it kind of disappeared in the soupy mac and cheese. The flavor was good but I wish it was something MORE you know? Tighter (Is that a term used for food?) and maybe some bacon or something to put it over the top. Good but not great. We ate it because we were STARVING but it wasn't our favorite of the night and we probably won't order it again. Jack's fries were waffle fries with BBQ spice rub on top. It was like eating a BBQ chip but in waffle fry form. I liked it. My husband who HATES BBQ chips ate the whole basket by himself practically. I don't know if I LOVED them but they were good. I think it had a super interesting flavor for waffle fries and they were the right texture and spiced correctly. And now for the wings! Best. Part. Of. Our. Meal!! By far...hands down. Delicious. Venturing into Roanoke downtown for what we hoped would be a "unique dining" experience, I was immediately drawn to Jack & Grill's premise of grilled/smoked chicken wings. Jack & Grill however only offered a handful of flavors, unlike the fried chicken wing competition, so my expectations were doubly high. Luckily, Jack & Grill delivered on the smokiness of the wings. I ordered a 12 piece flavored with Tangy Sesame, a dressing that let the smoke flavor shine through. Tender, juicy and mouthwatering, with just the right amount of sesame seed topping--I could eat a ton of these chicken wings without incurring the same guilt as regular ol' fried wings. More please! Unfortunately, everything else on the food menu at Jack & Grill's left much to be desired. Operating strictly as a sports bar, all the usual tailgating suspects are represented: nachos, pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches. We found the cheddar topped waffle fries to be bland, uninspired filler food. The onion strings fared much better, looking made from scratch, lightly battered and seasoned. The cheese burger looked and tasted like pre-frozen Angus patty--not terribly daring (given the proximity of Twisted Root nearby). The dinner menu was elevated a bit by the inclusion of steak and pastas, but most of them didn't strike us as unique or fancy. What probably draws a crowd here at Jack & Grill is the beer selection and the NFL Sunday ticket. Some unusual names and brands can be spotted on the blackboard, and there's hardly a seat in the house that doesn't possess a good view of a TV screen. Service seemed swift but perfunctory, as to be expected of a sports bar catering to a football-watching crowd. If I were to venture out this way again, perhaps more emphasis on the grilled and smoked side of the menu (including more variety of wings) would entice me back for another visit. There are a ton of competing options on this downtown strip vying for my dinner dollars (Babe's, Twisted Root, Hard Eight BBQ, Cowboy Chow, Bayou Jack's) and Jack & Grill needs something distinctively unique to grab me off the street. Oh and I also hope they make an effort to hide the Sysco boxes in the future--a disorganized kitchen is a big distraction. read more

My husband and his friends went to this restaurant a few days earlier and he could not stop talking about how amazing it was, so we went back early on New Years Eve with the whole family. First impression, the outside is so cute like all things on restaurant row in Roanoke. There is a large bar height table with a fire pit in the middle that looked super cozy. Inside, looks like your neighborhood grill but with a billion beers on tap. Now if I was a beer drinking, wing eating girl, this review might be five stars. Unfortunately, I am neither. Also if I was my husband, I would likely give it five stars - especially due to the green chile stacked enchiladas which he is having some foodie love affair with now. The place is known for their wings and beer so it seems unfair for me to judge them based on neither but I don't like either so here goes. We started with 16 wings, tuna nachos and mozzarella sticks. The latter being for me. The mozzarella sticks were excellent- it's all about the batter which is reminiscent of sticks from Spanky's in Lubbock. I had a Jucy Lucy burger and it was just ok. It wasn't bad or great, it lacked seasoning. Also it is topped with onions and tomatoes both of which are thick cut - not my preference. I ordered it with onion rings and those were fantastic. Again, it's all about the batter which reminded me of a mom and pop burger joint in the Fort. When we left, we took a group pic of the kids and the the owner/manager volunteered to take a group picture of our family which was so sweet. I'm always going to add additional stars for service so that transformed this three into a four. Unabashedly love this unassuming bar and grill. The food is good, the service is good, it's a full bar, and there are sports on TV, which is exactly what a good bar and grill does well. I love the chicken wings, we tried the tangy sesame flavor - yum. For lunch I had the BBQ chicken flatbread. It was good, but the crust was a little thinner than I like. We have been here twice now and both times have been awesome! My boss loves this place so we decided to give it a try and definitely were not disappointed. Jake was our server the second time and he's wonderful! Knowledgeable about his craft beer (over 50 on tap btw) and great conversationalist- which will get you far in the industry.
