HORRIBLE SERVICE on Father's Day! They encourage you to "skip the line" by placing your order online. We did at 4:37. We were notified that our order would be ready for pickup at 6:20. At 6:30 they had no record of our order. They asked for an order number and a name and seemed to have no idea whether an order had been received, despite my providing everything they said they needed to locate it, by the system they were using. I left and returned an hour later only to be met with the same results. They finally located the order which had come in by the email address instead of the name on the card as they had suggested. I found Jack's Seafood Shack! I love this sandwich with the homemade potato chips. The chips are so so good. The coleslaw is perfect, and you can tell the Seafood is fresh. We had gotten delivery from here and it was ok, but man when you actually eat at the restaurant, it's a way better experience and the food is 10xs better!! Food was so great, but the service was super slow. There were 2 waitresses, only 3 other tables, and every time we needed something we had to keep looking for someone. Plus everything took forever. BUT the steamers were so garlicky and delicious, and the lobster mac and cheese could give tops diner a run for their money. So go here, just definitely not if you have someplace to be. . . Update: if the server was not told that the little neck clams took longer then it is the fault of the kitchen. The little neck clams were also $2 more that were listed on the menu. We ended up here after Hook & Reel had an hour and a half wait. We wanted snow crab legs so we came upon this restaurant. It had mixed reviews so we decided to try it out. Wait staff was great (ki). The appetizer was the peel and eat shrimp which were not all deveined but they were huge. The main course was market price for snow crabs legs which I don't mind paying at all for good snow crab legs. Ki stated they are two clusters for 24.99. Fine no problem. Well they came out and looked like they were cooked in two different pots. One looked old and brown and the other was bright red. The two clusters consisted of a claw and 3 very thin crab legs. We might be back for other seafood but definitely not the crabs legs. I get better snow crab legs at Joe's crab shack and more. read more

not giving a 5 star review to a place that doesn't deserve it. but i will vote 4 stars on a 3.25 star place to help push it up to at least a 3.75 avg., which is what they reflect. Upsides 1) easily above average, fresh seafood at palpable prices, esp for uphill Mtclr. 2.) big menu selection - raw apps, scallops, lobster, crab, you name it. 3.) byob, service reliable, clean, nearby parking almost always available (7.9 times out of 10) 4.) ambiance is slower-casual, you don't need a lap napkin, but pls don't come just after yoga, be a little respectful. 5.) they'll open your bottle and give you glasses, you just have to pour it. they don't rush you. 6.) side salad is smaller but bangin! Downsides 1) anything with lobster (meals/dishes) cost almost 2X the price of regular items - (they're gunning for upper mtclr to order out instead of flocks, but take both) . 2) service is good, but then again this place is a fancy Arthur Treacher's (old one back in the hey hey days @Blfld Ave in Glen Ridge just below the high school). 3.) not extremely tidy areas, you might spot a stray napkin, straw wrapper or pepper packet that fell aside and was left to ponder life. 4.) restrooms are just so-so, as are pallets on the ceiling as decoration. 5.) be careful with those metered parking spots behind the ave, it's old retired cops looking to make their quotas. Went to The Wellmont for a concert last night and decided to give this nearby place a try. For apps we had clam strips and seared garlic shrimp. Both were excellent. Nice batter on the clam strip and the leftover garlic sauce was great for dipping bread. Have to try the whole belly fried clams next time...hard to find those in NJ. For dinner, we split the 'Lobster Bomb' which is a pile of lobster meat in a sour dough bowl with lobster bisque poured on top...wow, wow and wow! We also had their homemade chips which were perfectly cooked. Service was outstanding and the decor was casual but had a nice shore feel to it. My friend Marjorie and I stopped in on Sunday. Neither of us were ever there before and we took a chance. Well we walked away winners. Best lobster rolls we ever had. I highly recommend the platter. The chips were a great accent to the lobster roll. The cole slaw was tasty and fresh. The Lobster bisque was tasty as it should be. Very nicely decorated and very clean. Besides the great food, our waiter Nishant far exceeded our expectations for service. He was friendly upon our arrival and stayed that way consistently until we walked out the door. I waited a while before I decided to write this review, because I really wanted to like this place. My co-worker and I went here for lunch. She ordered the lobster roll and I order the fish sandwich, both of which came with coleslaw. Everything was really pleasing to the eye. I had taken two bites out of my sandwich and a taste of my co-workers coleslaw. Immediately, i told her that it tasted off and it tasted sour. So I opened my coleslaw and it was slimy and stringy. I called the waitress over and she took the coleslaw over to a manager. The manager comes over and said that the coleslaw was fine, but it tasted a little more vinegar than usual. It was at this point that my mouth stared getting watery so I asked for the check. The manager however said that he would take care of the bill. As soon as I was outside of the door I was vomiting. I vomitted at least 6 times before I was able to drive my car. I think what made me even more angry was that there were several of the workers outside and no one even offered a glass or water or asked if I needed medical attention. Okay so decided to give this place a try..walked in and the restaurant itself is really cute, nice setup. the chairs in the big table are not comfortable but I think it was just the table we sat at. We waited about 10 minutes to get a server. Ordered some drinks, they have a soda and ice tea selection and it's BYOB. I had fried calamari pretty basic nothing amazing, my table also ordered kale Cesar salad and they got a arugula salad. I order the sliders which was lobster, shrimp, and crab salad on a bun, the lobster one was good but the crab tasted like it was from a can and watered down the mayo, and the red pepper they mix it with was overwhelming. Overall the plate wasn't the best. If you want a quick seafood stop I would say this place is that place but if you wanna sit and crack some crab legs with some good flavor this isn't your place. read more

This place is fabulous! The food is always fresh and the service is fast and friendly. The lobster bisque is to die for! The soup is smooth, creamy and decadent with a touch of spice and a nice helping of lobster on top. If I could, I would lick the bowl clean. The lobster fritters are a must. They're served with a tasty dipping sauce and are quite filling so definitely good to share. The scallops are sweet and succulent, beautifully plated over a roasted corn medley. I have only tried the Connecticut style Lobster Roll with homemade chips. It's so delicious, I never want anything else when I'm there. The sandwich is stuffed with butter dipped lobster that's cooked to perfection and served with homemade potato chips that are so addictive that you can't stop eating them, even when you're full to the brim. This place is bring your own which I love because I'd rather spend my money on the food. It's not cheap but neither is seafood so I feel like the dishes are appropriately priced. The desserts looks amazing but I still haven't tried any because I'm always stuffed after my satisfying dinner. I have been here multiple times and have even brought guests. Nobody has ever left disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant. Bring your appetite. You will not leave hungry! read more

I went twice. Got the lobster roll last time. First time I got Fish n Chips. Upfront, I was put off by the price. But, it might be worth it. Nope. Extra greasy, overly salty, and the batter is way too rich. It's a common sin with fish n chips, but 20+ bucks for fried fish is not a commoner's price. I also bought one of those $3+ organic sodas. I should have walked across the street to Whole Foods and gotten a 2 liter bottle of organic root beer. Lobster roll was tasteless- had definitely been over-frozen. For the price, you'd think they had a Cape Cod fisherman driving them in daily. Honestly, some friends in town had told me that they went when this place opened and had horrible food. I decided that I wasn't going to let that keep me from trying. I wanted to love this place. But, it didn't work out. I will say this: the people who work here are very nice. It feels a little weird to walk in and see a maitre d'. Then you have to walk deeper in then down and to the right to order take out. But, the decor is very inviting and visually pleasing. 1. The server gave me lobster bisque instead of the clam chowder I ordered and then insisted that it was clam chowder when it wasn't. The bisque was tangy and spicy and I didn't like it. I ate about a third of a cup. They charged me half for it, and I would have expected them not to charge me at all. Not nice. This really annoys me and is the main reason why I'm giving this place a lousy review. Here are some other reasons: 2. The lobster special is a bit overpriced at a time when lobster prices are very low. The corn on the cob is soggy, overcooked, discolored sometimes at the edges. The lobster itself was excellent - the best, and and only really good part of the meal (the cole slaw is good, too) 3. The fried clams are "meh." I have had much better - they should really do some research on how to prepare these tasty morsels. It's not difficult to make them crispier and less greasy and to use a batter that's going to stand up to deep frying (see Bigelow's Fried Clams, Rockville Centre, NY). A few tweaks to their cooking technique would go a long way, but they don't seem to care enough to strive for improvement. 4. Aside from giving me an argument on the lobster bisque/clam chowder stupidity, the service was slow. We felt ignored for much of the meal. Don't drop a fork because you won't find a server to give you another one and you'll have to grab one from a vacant table. read more

Amazing seafood spot! I grew up in Massachusetts and would take trips every year to Gloucester and Maine in search of great seafood. This place hands down has the freshest oysters I've tried in Jersey. And the lobster? Generous portions and sweet - you know that's fresh. Highly recommend the raw oysters (heads up: they only carry one kind of oyster each day) and lobster bomb (tons of lobster meat with a dressing of bisque in a bread bowl). I'll start with the cons about this place, or con. The food is a bit overpriced for the portions. But taste wise, it was great. I had the steampot and this bad boy was loaded! A full lobster, a mussels, clams, potatoes, kielbasa, shrimp, and thankfully a bib. I'm glad I wore the bib because it was like doing hand-to-hand combat with a tiny person. My wife went with the classic fish and chips, solid flavor for sure. We had lobster fritters to start, and I'd say give them a try too. Really good for someone who can't get to the shore for the same food. Friend and I ordered the crab cake sandwich and main lobster roll respectively and we're pleased. The lobster was okay but not cleaned as well as I would have liked but the crab cakes were delicious! Would come back for those time and time again. Overall my disappointment was in the wait staff. They seemed more interested in talking to each other and using their phones than the customers. Their interactions with customers were delayed and brash - I think our waitress said 10 total words to us the entire time we were there and all of them were said after we called her over after waiting 7-10 minutes each time. It's definitely homemade which is nice to see but it was so bland. The size was a small cup. For $9 I expected much more! For my entree I had the fish & chips.
