Just back from my first visit and I will be back. Our server greeted us at the door and couldn't have been friendlier, all night. She was awesome with great recommendations and explanations of menu items. Went with the Connecticut lobster roll, which is warm with butter. They also have traditional, but this sounded better and was what our server preferred. Great choice. Lobster and butter. What's not to love? The homemade chips were unsalty, crunchy & addictive. Even the cole slaw was good. I dislike salt and nothing was salty. The clam chowder, which I started with, was great. It has a little unexpected kick at the finish and is loaded with clams. Got onions rings, which were okay, but not special and we didn't really need them with all the food. My companion had fish tacos, which he said were very good and packed with fish--a little sloppy to eat, but he wasn't complaining. Reasonably priced with casual nautical decor, I can easily see becoming a regular here. I'll come back and update with 5 stars after I have a few more menu items, if they're as good as what I had tonight. read more

Mouse sighting during dinner!!! I was eating dinner with my coworkers and a mouse jumped out of the booth and ran across the seat. I complained to the manager on duty and the manager was not surprised or concerned. The manager simply stated that it was a common occurrence. Their nonchalant attitude was very disturbing as unsanitary conditions should be a major concern because restaurants have been fined and shut down for less. I will never eat here again or at any of their sister restaurants. read more

I had the seafood stew which I enjoyed, but my husband was disappointed with the steam pot - he found it kinda dry. (Both of these entrees were top of the line - "market price" at $35+ each). Service on a busy Saturday night was great. I've had lunch at the Englewood Cliffs location and really enjoyed it - I think I'll stick with lunch here too. Ordered for Mother's Day. Had a 5pm order time. When I walked in they noted that they moved all 5pm to 5:30. I ended up getting my food at around 5:50. The woman at the counter was very nice but kept saying just 10 more minutes, which gets old the 5th time you hear it. They clearly couldn't handle the volume. This New England girl needed a lobster roll. I've been craving one for months and googled "best lobster roll in NJ" and Jack's came up. I was not disappointed! Their New England clam chowder was thick and creamy and super flavorful. The lobster roll (Maine style which is the ONLY way to eat it) was delicious. Lots of meat, perfectly seasoned, light on the mayo. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. Beloved is not a seafood fan, and ordered the cheeseburger. Said it was very good. Jack's is the only place I know to go to when I want fried clam strips (so fresh) steamers (so fresh) and lobster mac'n cheese (to die for). Its a byob so I brought my favorite beer to go with seafood, Heineken. The staff was friendly and was always there to see if you needed anything. And, we could sit where we wanted! I am here on business and drove the 3.5 miles in a bit of snow to check this place out. Even stopped off for a Prosecco split to enjoy with my meal since this BYOB. After perusing the menu online and seeing Yelp reviews I was excited to give this place a try. Plus I was craving seafood! Here I am sitting out front and the restaurant is dark. No sign on the door and a phone call to the phone number on the website says they are open 7 days a week. No indication the place is closed. Really disappointed - bad business practice. read more

Generous portions of quality seafood fare in a pleasant, harborside themed environment. The food has been consistently good over the 4-5 times we have visited, and although it's not inexpensive, we feel you get your money's worth. The lobster in the lobster mac&cheese and the lobster grilled cheese had an abundance of lobster. And it's BYO, which makes the price of the meal more reasonable. things started well with excellent clam chowder and lobster bisque, after that all down hill. I was craving steamers and ordered 2 dozen, I couldn't stomach more than 5 before a gave up. Cold , bland.....if that was the first clam I ever had I'd never try another. And when the waiter clearly saw I only ate 5 , said nothing and took them away. I had the lazy lobster, again cold and the corn was cold and my dates salmon left her asking for it to go. We had a great first date , but wouldn't eat there again. Huge disappointment read more

Soooo it was date night the other day and we were both craving seafood .... we walked in and we were one of four couples in the entire restaurant which I don't mind ... the hostess sat us at any table of her liking simply because it was that many open tables but we don't have preferences on sitting ... any who after a few minutes the hostess came back over to take drink orders and I tried a red berry cooler which I think is the name don't quote me on that ....she came back with drinks and then we met our server she took app and entree orders and answered a few questions about the menu ... our garlic shrimp app was pretty darn good... and I got the Connecticut lobster roll and chip with a side of mayo and he got the three sliders one Shrimp salad roll , one lobster roll and one crabmeat roll which was our fave ... after the meal the hostess pre bussed and dropped our check and we were good to go ..... I should add that after a while our server was attending to about five tables alone so I didn't mind the hostess helping out so much .., I just hope the poor girl gets tips out from the servers lol, just a thought... Also my boyfriend and I were in a lengthy debate over giving this place two or three stars ... of course we went with three because I'm Elite and he's not besides I always when debates .....but I may to be back the seafood was fresh which in most cases is half the battle .... read more

This new seafood restaurant on Bloomfield ave across from Whole Foods will be my favorite place for fish and lobster. The food is fresh and delicious. BYOB or have it delivered. They do have desert including key lime pie. A real gem has arrived to Montclair. Weekends may be better To make reservations. You won't be disappointed. read more

$75 way too much for a Saturday afternoon lunch for two. Hubby had clam chowder to start (which he loved) and I had shrimp cocktail which was sadly, awful. How do you ruin shrimp cocktail???? $15 for a serving of 5 spongy, gummy shrimps that were clearly not fresh and more than previously frozen- maybe more than twice. Blech! My entree of a crab cake sandwich and homemade chips was very good. Hubby ordered a battered cod sandwich which was again- clearly frozen fish sticks! Fish are not rectangular creatures! Great free parking nearby at the museum. The restaurant is clean and service terrific - from Sam the hostess to the server and food runner. They all deserve better support from the kitchen to deliver as regrettably, the food doesn't keep pace with all the other great efforts. It was a first time visit to this location (liked Edgewater last year), with a friend. I was embarrassed. Her lobster roll was small, and tough. Confirmed when ordering if the "whole fried clams" were Ipswich clams; twice received a "yes" (even after "checking with the kitchen" and arrival to the table). However, the clams were not the size, texture or taste of any fried clam from my New England home state - and especially not Ipswich clams (big full bellied with long necks). Jack's offers whole belly, yet quite small clams. The too-heavily bland battered process left the "belly" portion inside slightly undercooked. The overcooked onion rings were also heavily battered, bland and stiff as a hockey puck. Couldn't finish dinner. After a long walk to relieve the over fried taste and lump in my stomach, we went to Raymond's for a refreshing cob salad. Would like to see this place succeed. Suggest the owner and chef take a trip to East Yarmouth's Skipper restaurant, the Barnacle in Marblehead or Lobsta Land in Gloucester (all in MA) to check out what whole belly fried clams and onion rings should look and taste like, as well as lobster rolls. read more

Best seafood in Montclair!!!!! My favorite dish is the Shackfish sandwich , it's always cooked to perfection and the flavors are spot on. Homemade chips are like crack, i'm addicted!!!! Very pleasant surprise! We had three 2 lb. lobsters which were all delicious, sweet, best lobster I've had. The waitress said to have the Crab Cake, so happy we did. The corn was as sweet as can be. We tried the NE Clam Chowder which was one of the best around. Going back to try the lobster roll. Great prices!! We went back a week later and had the Maine Lobster Roll. So me and my mom came here to eat this past Friday night and the place was pretty empty and we were seated fast. I ordered the king crab legs and my mom ordered the fish and chips. The food took about 30 minutes to come out. I also ordered an iced tea and my mom ordered a hot tea. The problem was not the service or cleanliness of the restaurant, it is the food itself. It's just bland tasting. However my food was hot and freshly served. My mom was very disappointed. I really enjoyed this place. My husband and I went for a quick dinner before a show, and we would definitely come back. I asked if they could make an oyster po' boy, and they accommodated me. It was delicious. My husband had the sliders, which come with one lobster, one crab and one shrimp slider. He loved those.
