Pit stop to a very fresh fish market
    Fran S.

I don't usually hang out in fish markets, but in the case I had a big order so the wait took a little time. No worries though! I could bare being inside the Jackie's Seafood Market without being overwhelmed because there was no fishy smell or the smell of something dead. In fact, I was highly impressed by how clean the place was too. There was a constant revolving door of people coming to retrieve preorders or to create new orders once inside. The flow was handled quickly and efficiently. I wanted to collect a few fish for a later freezer stash that were almost out of the water fresh. I inquired about the frequency of the catch and was told that they receive fresh product twice a week. Well...okay then. Love that part. It was quite obvious that they go through seafood pretty easily with all the foot traffic. The can prepare your order any way you would like including cooking it onsite. This would probably account for the stacks of to-go boxes I witnessed the folks hauling out of the place by the droves. I was pretty happy with my order of several varieties of locally caught fish. Most of all the total was on par with many other places that did not have nearly the selection nor the freshness. When I return to Savannah, I will make sure I also return to Jackie's.

I had a taste for a seafood for dinner. However, I wanted take out so I choose Jackie's Seafood Market. I often drive past the restaurant when commuting through the city. So tonight I decided to try Jackie's. The exterior of the business is clean and well lit (lighting). The inside is clean. There is no dinning in. Only a couple stools to sit while waiting on your take out order. The prices are fair and the food taste great.

These are the SPOILED shrimp from Jackie's seafood located on East Montgomery Xrds in Savannah 31406. Large Shrimp

I shouldn't have chosen the 1lb yellow raw shrimp, I should have got the typical gray raw shrimp. Looking back the manager never even asked me which shrimp I wanted he quickly chose the bigger yellow shrimp for me to initially purchase. As I was removing the peels the steamed (they steamed for me) shrimp started to crumble, fall apart, was mushy and had no flavor. It was then I thought about how raw shrimp are actually NOT supposed to be yellow. And then read on the internet how a chemical may have been used on spoiled shrimp to fool customers when raw shrimp are yellow. I quickly took the shrimp back to Jackies for an exchange or refund but the tall, mature older man, the "man in charge" refused to give me a exchange or refund. He claimed the shrimp were fresh, stating the smaller in size raw gray shrimp came from salt water and the larger raw yellow shrimp came from a mix of salt and fresh water. There were zero red colors on the raw yellow shrimp whereas I could clearly see and pointed out to him how the fresh gray shrimp have touches of red markings on the shrimps legs. This no red colors was another indication of the yellowed shrimp not being fresh and having possibly been chemically treated. Also I did read online how farm raised shrimp are yellow and Jackie's may be selling farm raised shrimp as fresh ocean caught shrimp. Still wanting shrimp safe to eat, I again ordered 1/4 lb of the fresher looking gray normal colored raw shrimp w red legs and had the shrimp steamed. But when I offered my card to pay for the second round of shrimp the same man said no charge. So, why didn't he just give me a refund, or an exchange ? But he gave me the 1/4lb of steamed shrimp for free ! ! That's when I became even more suspicious that he knew the first shrimp were actually not fresh as he had claimed. The second test as to the first shrimp not being fresh is my hungry cats at home wouldn't eat the shrimp so I paid $15. for shrimp I had to throw away and couldn't even get my cats to eat. The 1/4lb of shrimp when I peeled them were firm, did not fall apart and were in comparison not at all mushy. However the second batch still had NO shrimp flavor. Not only was I hungry for shrimp but I wanted the second batch to perform my own comparison. After my comparison I feel even more convinced the first batch I paid for were not fresh and were definitely not as fresh as the second batch. I feel I was sold shrimp that were not fresh for top price. I will never go back to Jackie's seafood. Living on the Coast it is possible to find credible fresh shrimp and even stand on the same boat they came in on as you pay for them.

Seafood is fresh, good pricing. The cooked food is awesome, I order every time I'm in the area. They have several options to choose from on their menu. Fried shrimp is some of the best in Savannah.

One of my absolute favorite places to buy fried seafood, particularly shrimp, are local fresh fish markets. So when I spotted this place while driving around the city of Savannah, I just had to stop. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but that was just fine with me! You step inside to a surgical bright white interior and the glorious smell of fresh fish. Directly in front of you is the fish display with a nice variety of gills and crustaceans arranged attractively on ice. Featured are 'just caught' Georgia shrimp. If you dont know, many of the gulf shrimp are born in the marshlands off the Georgia Coast and travel using underwater currents for hundreds of miles. After making your selection, a team gets to work cleaning and preparing your meal. I had my one pound order of large shrimp in about 8 minutes. I LOVE the flavor of fresh shrimp and these were fresh-nificent. Perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned! I don't want to overhype them with graphic descriptions of deliciousness, so I'll simply say come see for yourself. I can't imagine any seafood lover not becoming a fan after just one visit. Me... I'm a flat out follower! This will be a 'must stop' for every future visit to this wonderful city. I really like how they completely shelled the shrimp before battering and cooking. The flavor was so fantastic that I couldn't stop eating them. I chose fried, but you can also have them boiled. THE VERDICT Highly recommended. Just be forewarned this is NOT a sit down restaurant! There is no place to eat your meal... Strictly to-go orders only! I'll be back again tomorrow :-)

One of the employees at the Perry Lane Hotel recommended Crab Du Jour, and I'm glad they did! My wife and I arrived and immediately noticed the lively atmosphere. As soon as we walked through the door, karaoke night was in full swing. There was a DJ, several talented performers, and a crowd that was enjoying themselves. The entertainment was classy, fun, and added a special touch to our dining experience. For dinner, I ordered Dungeness crab legs with corn and additional sides, all covered in their mild Cajun sauce. The food was fresh, flavorful, and very satisfying. The seasoning was just right--enough flavor to enjoy without overpowering the natural taste of the seafood. My wife ordered corn and vegetables and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. Everything was prepared well and served hot and fresh. Our waitress provided excellent service throughout the evening. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Between the great food, outstanding service, and enjoyable entertainment, Crab Du Jour became one of the highlights of our Savannah trip. If you're looking for good seafood, a fun atmosphere, and excellent customer service, I highly recommend Crab Du Jour in Savannah. I gladly give them 5 out of 5 stars for food, entertainment, and service. They helped make our anniversary trip even more memorable!

I'm no seafood boil connoisseur, but I thought it was a pretty good deal and overall a decent restaurant.

The inside was surprisingly quiet, with most tables empty when we stopped by at 7pm on a Tuesday night. We ordered the Combo B with shrimp and crab legs (mild seasoning + garlic butter), along with a fried lobster tail and sweet potato fries. The bag of boiled seafood was definitely the star of the show. The shrimp tasted fresh and flavorful--not fishy at all--and the garlic butter seasoning was delicious. Cracking open the crab legs was a new experience for us and honestly kind of fun. There's something about working for each bite that turns dinner into an activity. We also tried the fried lobster tail. Unfortunately, the batter tasted almost burnt and overpowered the natural sweetness of the lobster meat. In retrospect, I would have ordered it boiled instead. The sweet potato fries were limp rather than crispy, which was disappointing. That said, the overall seafood boil experience really saved the meal. Our server was friendly and kind, especially since this was our first time at a seafood boil restaurant. She checked on us several times without being intrusive and helped us navigate the whole bibs-and-gloves situation. What our family loved most was the communal aspect--everyone digging into the same bag, cracking shells, passing pieces around. It felt interactive and different from just eating individual plates ordered off a menu. Would we go back? Yeah, probably--especially with grandparents or for a fun, hands-on dinner night out.

Erica Davis Lowcountry sits on Victory Drive in Thunderbolt -- a town so small it has exactly one square mile of land and a name borrowed from a lightning strike that supposedly split open a freshwater spring on the Wilmington River bluff. The restaurant itself has a similar origin story: a long-shuttered seafood spot called Teeple's, left empty for years, brought back to life by Erica and Dwight Davis with real care. The gaslight sconces out front stayed. So did the bones of the building. The garage doors open when the weather cooperates. We came in late on a Friday, catching the final stretch of their brunch service. Hannah (I believe) was our server -- in training, which you wouldn't have guessed. She steered us well and managed the table (and the room) with a confidence that didn't feel performed. We started with the Barbecue Shrimp and the Oysters Rockefeller. The barbecue shrimp -- Georgia shrimp in a spiced, rich sauce served with toasts -- was good but the one I'd skip on a return visit. The Oysters Rockefeller are the opposite story: roasted, finished with creamed collards and parmesan, and genuinely one of the better bites I've had in recent memory. Order them. My husband had the Wassaw Redfish -- pan-seared over stone-ground grits with garlic beurre blanc and heirloom tomato. Clean, confident cooking. I had the Sunday fried chicken, which delivered exactly what that dish promises when it's done right. Sides of fresh green beans, South Georgia collards, and Erica's Famous Coleslaw held their own across the board. Dessert was the Key Lime Pie, served in a cup that does not prepare you for how good it is. Tart and creamy in the right proportion. We didn't leave any behind. The family's seafood history in Savannah goes back to 1946. You can feel that kind of depth in a kitchen -- not in any one dramatic bite, but in the steadiness of it all.

I ordered the Lowcountry Boil, which comes with shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage. The sausage and potatoes were good, and the seasoning was decent, but I was underwhelmed overall, especially considering the price. The shrimp didn't seem particularly fresh and had some white spots and discoloration that gave me the impression they may have been frozen for quite a while. As a result, the dish didn't quite live up to the hype for me. My wife ordered the Wassaw Redfish, which was recommended by our server, and that ended up being the standout dish of the meal. The redfish was cooked well, the garlic beurre blanc sauce was rich without being overwhelming, and the grits were creamy and flavorful. The shrimp and green beans complemented the dish nicely. Overall, the experience was mixed. The atmosphere was pleasant, and my wife's entrée was very good, but the Lowcountry Boil fell short of expectations. I'd consider coming back to try some of their other menu items, but based on this visit, I wouldn't order the boil again.

When we first arrived, the staff was friendly, although several employees were gathered around the podium on their cell phones. That said, we were seated immediately, which was appreciated. Our server, Nette, was fantastic throughout the meal, friendly, attentive, and consistently checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere was not quite what we expected. Rather than a traditional Low Country seafood feel, it had more of an urban club vibe. Not necessarily a bad thing, just different from what we anticipated. For appetizers, we ordered the Fried Okra and Calamari, and both arrived piping hot and fresh. The calamari was especially impressive and came with a sweet Thai dipping sauce that was rich, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The food overall was fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. I ordered the Fried Fish & Shrimp but also wanted fried oysters. Unfortunately, there wasn't an option to build a seafood combo, so I ended up purchasing two separate entrées. It would be great if Top Crab offered a "pick 2 or 3 seafood items" combo like many other seafood restaurants. Matt ordered the Seafood Boil (Combo A, Medium Heat), and it was easily the star of the evening. The seasoning was spot-on, the seafood was cooked perfectly, and the portion size was generous enough that he had leftovers to take home. The shrimp were juicy and flavorful, and the seasoning had just the right amount of kick. The crab legs were decent but didn't have as much meat as he had expected. Overall, if you're looking for a quick meal and good seafood in the Savannah area, Top Crab is definitely worth a visit. Great service from Nette, flavorful food, and several menu items that would bring us back again. While there are a few things that could be improved, we enjoyed our experience and will likely return in the future.
