Great ribs, but go when busy. They're fresher. It's got it's own atmosphere. Not the best atmosphere but it has one.

The cooks chop the meat super well! The food is super delicious! There is a great atmosphere inside and also the prices are not bad at all. I also had green beans and cornbread, which completed my meal very well. I thought long lines meant food worth waiting for. My ribs were dry and leather like. Not top quality at all! They even left the membrane on the backside. The seats that were not wooden worn out and you will feel every spring! However, my wife had the brisket sandwich. It was juicy and full of flavor. I guess this place is not a rib place. Totally 5 Stars. Jack's is worth a trip from Any City, Anywhere to here just for the joy of BBQ. You will not be disappointed. My wife and I made the trip today from California to Tennessee, made our way to Downtown, then found the long line at Jack's. We came here after getting the recommendation from a couple different people (unless they meant somewhere else, and it was our mistake). In our experience, this place is vastly overrated. We had the pork shoulder and the beef brisket. The beef brisket was okay, but just okay, not the scrumptious bbq would were let to believe we would be experiencing. The pork shoulder, which one of the people behind the counter recommended to us, was dry and stringy and a little gross. It was a massive massive let down. The sides were just ordinary and okay. The best part of our meal was laughing about how mac and cheese was included as a "vegetable." Unfortunately, I do not have any suggestions for alternatives having visited on vacation, but would advocate taking another reviewer's suggestion for an alternate place to go. read more

This place had a line out the door and so I thought it was the place to eat when in Nashville. I had the Pork Shoulder Plate. The pork was good. The sides I got, mac & cheese and potato salad, were terrible. They tasted like something from a bad buffet line and I could not eat them. The bread served with the plate is like a too dense slightly corn tasting heavy bread, it was not good. The person with me had the three meat combo plate and said that their meat tasted like lighter fluid. I would not recommend Jack's. read more

Went here with 3 other friends over Memorial Day weekend, the ribs were honestly terrible and the brisket was dry. Heard great things about this place before we came but now I really don't understand how people are saying they have the best ribs around. I visited Jack's with my best friend. The food is really good. I got chicken, green beans, and mac and cheese. The green beans were a little too spicy/seasoned for me. The staff members were very friendly and they had the line moving quickly (the place was packed on a Friday night). I would definitely return if I'm in the Nashville area again! read more

Wife and I stopped in while walking around downtown Nashville. Great southern cooking. We had the St Louis ribs. Highly recommend.

Checked out this spot based on word of mouth. Had the brisket, green beans, apples, and baked beans. Brisket flavor was excellent. Smokey but unfortunately a bit on the dry side. Green beans were super soft (almost mushy) and apples were made like Grandma used to. The cornbread hockey pucks I will be sure to leave on the counter next time. Kansas City sauce was the ticket and the baked beans weren't too shabby either. Final take: not worth waiting in line for 20 minutes but if you need a quick meal post party, give er a shot. read more

We are big yelp and big guy fieri fans. I read the reviews of jacks but figured ii was being picky. Yes the meats are absolutely phenomenal but the sides are so disgusting they should be embarrassed! Plus, there's no way the health inspector gave this restaurant a passing score. I've had barbecue all over the United States....skip this one until the owner or manager of jacks gets the word that we like clean, we like home made sides and this place needs a big scrubbing. Ditch that gum food you called Mac and cheese (another yelper thought it came from a box or squeezed out of a bag, so agree...tasted worse than hospital food!). Do not get me started on that corn bread!!!! Yuk! Those beans are NOT southern BBQ beans.....what was that from the Campbell's pork and beans cookbook? Shame shame!!! read more

Great hole in the wall BBQ place. Reasonable prices and good portions. Very friendly staff. The brisket platter was tasty and tender, the broad range of sides was almost overwhelming but settled on slaw and baked beans, my bride on macaroni and potato salad. We thought they were exceptionally good! The BBQ sauces were great, the spicy sauce will sneak up on your tastebuds, but I didn't think overwhelming. read more

My husband and I go to Nashville every year for vacation, and when we are in town, Jack's is a must. We have been lucky enough to just walk in, and we have also waited over an hour in line before making it to the counter to order. It is well worth the wait! If I had to choose personal favorites, I'd have to say the ribs, pork shoulder, and Mac and cheese are my "go to" items. My husband loves their fresh brewed sweet tea, and I can't pick a favorite barbecue sauce because you're able to choose from a variety at a condiment bar before sitting down/while eating. We tell all of our friends who visit Nashville to go to Jack's and they all love it, too! read more

The meat was delicious - we had a fare spread; the pulled pork and ribs were the best. It definitely has that smokey flavor. A wide array of sauces to try for any BBQ lover. I went here on the advice of a lady that worked at the Old Opry. They had great fall-off-the bone bbq. They have their own special homemade sauces which were so damn good and ready to sell. The pork ribs and beef ribs were indeed the best I've ever had. read more

It's neat that they have several sauce choices (none of which were over the top great) My boyfriend, who loves BBQ shares the same views. He had the Brisket and I had the Pork. His brisket was good. From the minute I landed in Nashville, people were talking about Jack's. I knew trying BBQ while in Music City was a must, so I ended up here one night before a night out downtown. I got the half rack of ribs plate with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and it was delicious. The meat actually fell off the rib and their sauce was spicy and so good. I wasn't able to finish everything because it was so much food, though I really tried. The only thing I really didn't care for was the corn bread, but I'm not really a fan in general. I loved the Volunteers and Titans gear hanging up on the wall and the friendly employees made the experience even better. Jack's is definitely a great place to stop before checking out all the awesome bars on Broadway and I can't wait to go back next time I'm in Nashville. read more

I love BBQ and have had it in many many places both in the south and other areas. Jacks BBQ just didn't measure up, The ribs were bland, the chicken was dry and the brisket average at best. The bbq sauce choices did nothing to improve the meal and were uninspiring themselves. The highlight of the meal was the green beans. On a road trip from Texas to New York state we tried some Tennessee barbeque. Since we have only tried Texas bbq we were excited to try something new. We waited in a very long line and I hoped the food was worth the time. We were asked to choose our meats and sides on our combo plate. Between the both of us we got to try 5 different kinds of meat and a few sides. There were like 6 different sauces to choose from which not one went well with the meat. The macaroni and cheese was very gritty and runny lol what a combo!!!! The pulled pork was watered down mushy texture with no flavor. The sausage was very greasy along with burnt dry brisket. I dont remember the chicken or turkey or whatever it was. I guess this place is just a tourist trap. read more

This is standard BBQ, but I say that as a compliment. A lot of people can cook meat and call it 'Q, but the brisket I had was real (and really good). Well-smoked, super tender. The sides are what you'd expect: beans, cole slaw, mac and cheese, etc. Of them all, my favorites were the corn and the potato salad. I don't know what their recipe is for the latter, but I want it -- it was creamy, but with hints of mustard and vinegar. I also like that they let you choose your own sauce. As a Kansas City native, I was thrilled to see one labeled with my hometown. The flavor lived up to my expectations, so I was happy. By the time I opened it to see that the impolite worker had given me only two of three of my combo selections along with one I didn't order, I was already too disillusioned and did not want to go back. Worst meal in recent memory. Well-known eatery on Nashville's main tourist drag, recommended by many reliable sources, yet the food is shockingly bad. Anybody who favors this restaurant needs to be straight-jacketed! -Brisket: Driest meat I've ever had, tasteless. -Mac & cheese: Inferior to virtually any mac & cheese sold at any market. -Cornbread: Hard, prolly stale, and tasteless. -Cooked apples: Good. My dining partner ordered different items, and was equally violated. Apparently, this eatery's so-called "cooks" NEVER taste test any of their so-called "food." This traumatic experience was made worse by noise (bad acoustics), and very hard seats. I couldn't even offer my food to a hobo, because I'm a compassionate man, and wouldn't subject an innocent person to this horrific crap masquerading as edible sustenance. I walked by Jack's a bit later that day, and saw that the line was now out the door and onto the sidewalk. I wanted to warn the unsuspecting suckers to run away, but I was weak due to the post Jack's violently explosive diadoodoo which rocketed out of my delicate tushie. If you want a good restaurant on that street, and with a reasonable noise level, go to Rock Bottom. I'd rather be dead than return to Jack (if that's even his real name). read more
