Best smoked turkey I've ever had! Mac & Cheese was "normal" (nothing to write home about). Creamed Corn & pulled pork were good!

We found this place by searching "best place to eat near Nashville, TN. Never ate anywhere on or near Nashville, so I'm not sure how it compares, but we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, staff was extremely friendly, and the experience was exactly what we were looking for on our road trip. I would definitely recommend jack's to anyone looking for a quick and affordable meal that is not commercial fast food. Five stars for filling us up and getting us back on the road. Oh, and thanks Jack for the free hand rub, although not what we expected when we first read the offer, a bottle of spices is nice too!!! read more

Great value and real tasty, real BBQ! On entering you are in the ordering line. As you order, they are assembling your plate. Fast and easy. Good solid BBQ ribs, chicken also good. Staff was not unfriendly but not too helpful either. Know what you want, order and move on. read more

This is a no frills place! The BBQ is fabulous! I suggest the pulled pork, succulent and tasty. They have 6 different kinds of sauce, Carolina style was my favorite. Being from CA I was really excited about trying the BBQ and was not let down. It is a local experience not to be missed. read more

Just like all the other places on Broadway - this place is built for tourists. The food was mediocre. The meat was dry and flavorless. Not a huge fan and I probably won't return. If you are a Nashville native I would suggest checking out a number of other BBQ spots over Jack's. read more

Jack's used to set the standard for bbq downtown, but they have gone way downhill. We always took newcomers to Jack's for a real taste of Nashville, but no more. The ribs are slow cooked and the meat falls off the bone, but they are overcooked and super salty. The pulled porknis poorly trimmed, full of fat and inedibles, and it is dry. 5 years ago I was in Nashville with my wife and we stopped here for dinner, came back on our second Nashville vaca last week. Line was long but it didn't take long to get our food. My wife is kind of picky when it comes to food, so the styrofoam plate threw her off a bit (I personally don't care) but once she tasted the food she was sold. The pork and ribs were delicious, sides of mac and cheese and baked beans were on point. Add a couple of drinks and you're set. We will be back every time we come to Nashville. read more

SAVORY & SAUCY! Not that Jack's needs anymore reviews.. since 1973 or so, I just wanted the West Coast to know they should definitely eat there in Nashville if given the chance! I had the pulled pork, with creamy corn and side of apples, which were in a apple-pie like syrup with cinniamon. Jack';s has 3 BBQ Sauces: Carolina yellow sauce-mustardy, Music City white sauce-horseradish and mayo? and Texas Sweet- my second favorite after the Carolina sauce! The have pecan pie, custard pie, it will all make you cry it's so damn tastey. It's right down next to World Famous Tootsie's music bar, so you can catch local live music after. Brisket, sausage, ribs, pork and beef, green beans, mashed potatoes, all the fixins.Jack's is basic, old style decor but the food is real down home and fresh. Probably not the best for a vegetarian like myself but with the help of the staff I had a great lunch. It's a small, *quaint* place right in the midst of Broadway and all the bars. We'd never been here before and knew nothing about it, the doorman at Nudie's suggested it for really good BBQ and veggies. You go through the line, cafeteria style and the menus are on the wall above. You pick what you like, pick up and pay. It's a very old building with lot's of charm, seating is a few center tables and chairs and lot's of booths of both sides. One lucky couple at the table in the window facing Broadway to watch the people on the street *get it if you can* There is also seating up stairs. I got the cucumber and red onion salad w/tomatoes and vinegar, mashed potatoes *like granny used to make* and mac and cheese. They give you, what I'm guessing is thin slices of corn bread though it's not what I'm used to in Georgia. This from what I've experienced is more like northern cornbread, kind of sweet so I passed on that. My lunch was excellent and there were other veggie options such and corn and great looking green beans but the young man serving said they were made with animal broth so I had to pass, my friend however is not veggie restricted so she had them and raved about how good they were. She had the Trio Plate so she had chicken, ribs and brisket. It looked amazing and she was in BBQ heaven, it's one of her favorite foods and she gave it 5 stars. They have a really good selection of domestic and imported beers, we had Angry Orchard and Lagunitas IPA. If I go back to Nashville, I'll come back to this great little place. The staff is super friendly and helpful and they do home cooking right. I came here because it was recommended to me as some great BBQ. The line was out the door so I was excited because it must be good right? I am not a fan of BBQ but when in rome... I was disappointed in this place. When I got up the counter I asked the guy what was good and what he recommended. He seemed very annoyed by my question, I get it he probably gets it a lot. Ok, so he just replied "everything is good" so that wasn't helpful. I just choose what I recognized, choose my sides and got a drink. They only had 3 BBQ sauces to choose from they advertise 6 but I didn't see the other 3. I choose 2 and sat down. The brisket I got was dry and had no flavor. The corn bread was burnt and extremely dry. The Sauces were average nothing exciting. Overall it wasn't good I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend it. Yum! I think hole-in-the-wall BBQ is always the best BBQ, and Jack's fits the bill. The line is always line, and the food is unpretentious but delicious. The turkey was incredibly great, and I feel like this is sort of the sleeper menu item at most BBQ restaurants. Brisket was fatty and smokey in the most delicious way, and ribs were crusty on the outside and juicy on the inside. I was a little disappointed in the chicken because it seemed to be significantly more bone than meat, but what was there was definitely tasty. read more

The brisket was pretty good but there's definitely better BBQ in the state of Tennessee.

The food looked, smelled and tasted great. The service was friendly and efficient. But these stars for for the above-and-beyond compassion and kindness of host Freida and manager Kyle. A block or so west of Jack's, my dad's walker had a run-in with a Broadway curb, and the curb won! A wheel on the walker was pretty badly bent, and our group of 12 got him and ourselves to Freida's welcoming smile. Despite Dad's insistence that he would be fine going forth with the now-wobbly walker, Freida recognized our challenge and helpfully suggested the Walgreen's a few blocks away might be able to help us get it back in tip-top shape. Sadly, there wasn't much they could do at Walgreen's, so I carried it back to Jack's, where Kyle and I spent probably 20 minutes trying every tool in his toolbox to get that darn wheel back in shape. While none of anyone's efforts ultimately resulted in a straightened walker wheel that day (we got a ride back to the hotel right after), in spite of our misadventures our family was still able to enjoy a fantastic BBQ lunch thanks to two of the kindest people in all of Nashville. read more

I was at a different Jack's BBQ, not sure what street but we took a bus tour and in the middle of the tour we got to stop at Jack's and to be honest, it WAS the BEST BBQ I have ever had. Loved the coleslaw and the Bake Beans as well. I surely enjoyed the BBQ chicken and my sister had the Ribs and she too enjoyed all of it. read more

We were just there a few days ago and I have to be honest we went in because it smelled so good walking behind the Ryman.We were not disappointed! I had the pork platter. The pork was fantastic and moist, very flavorful! The Mac and cheese I liked it so much I didn't even need to to put salt and pepper on it it was so good. The cucumber salad was nice and light. Jack's is fine if you manage to get there when the line isn't insanely long. My group tried a variety of the meats, and they were pretty good, but the amount of meat you get for your sandwich seemed a little skimpy. The sauces were good but nothing to write home about. All the sides were fine, but again, nothing outstanding, and the cornbread was pretty dry. Generally, this place is kind of a "shrug" for me. The most fun part about it just the decor. read more

When driving cross country it is imperative to take bbq breaks and this was our Nashville stop. There was a line almost out the door and barely a seat to be had buy the bbq was well worth it. Definitely worth the trip if you are in Nashville, the only disappointment is that they close quite early at night, I believe at 10pm, and the Nashville night life is just getting started then. On a recent trip to Nashville, a local friend of ours took us to Jack's BBQ for dinner. A great local place for BBQ--we had so much fun here! The atmosphere is great--it feels authentic, the BBQ sauces are varied and quite good, and there's lots of very interesting reading on the walls about the history of Nashville/Jack's BBQ.
