We used to LOVE this restaurant! We still love the servers. They haven't changed. They know us by nale and they know what beverage we like without having to ask. The food had always been delicious until this last visit. Given we are regulars at the place, we know the quality of the food has been consistently fantastic and the wait for the food is typical - not too fast or slow - enough to prepare the meal given how busy the place has always been. This last time, however, it was a good 45 minutes before the order came to the table. Neither one of our meals was very good. I was very hypiglycemic by this point and so I ate the french toast that was completely uncooked inside. At first I wasn't thrilled that the bread was considerably smaller than it used to be until i bit into it to find cold wet mush. I should not have eaten it at all. My friend had ordered a patty melt - medium which should be light pink in the center. It was bloody red. She sent it back and about 20 min later it came back exavtly the same. She sent it back again. Another 20 minutes later it came back well done and with spices in the meat that made the meat taste lousy. So now she had a burger that wass over cooked and tasted bad. She didnt gat to eat because by that time we were done. I wish i had turned back the french toast. I kept hoping with every bite it might be cooked. Not one bite was cooked. Not even one. Being hypoglycemic I felt like I would lose my cool if I didnt eat something so I ate. It turns out the place had been bought and the new owner really didnt care. We got to talk to the brother of the new owner who only said that the place has been very busy and that should speak to the quality. He couldnt care less about our experience. All I have to say is that they are going to be losing a lot of money having to replace meals and once people find out about the sudden drop in quality of the food, those peeople that have been filling the place will not be returning as we wont be either. We refuse to go somewhere that the owners could care less about their patrons. read more

This used to be a 5 without a doubt. But now that Alvie and Gary are gone it's NOT the same. The restaurant conglomerate that took over changed the menu and raised prices. First of the Mike's Chicken Noodle soup was the best chicken noodle soup around. Rich broth, carrots, celery, chunks of chicken in a hearty broth and noodles. The hearty chicken noodle now on the menu is just broth and egg noodles. Not a veggie or chicken in sight and it's too salty and bland. Very disappointing for more than $7.50 a bowl I can't even say it's disappointing it just was bad. And served luke warm. We got the reuben sandwich to split with potato salad. Toasted bread fairly good portion for $18.95 a sandwich. But the corn beef was a bit chewy. The corn beef should be tender it was not in the middle. I wanted to like it but it was just meh. Potato salad was served in the little side Dixie cup thing. I gotta say I hate that. Potato salad was more like mashed potato salad. Again not a lot of flavor or ingredients. Service was good. The employees were the same, menu is paired down. They do still have the pickles. Which is good! But the taste and overall food was not the same. Too bad. It was a great little deli. I did hear someone was buying it from the restaurant conglomerate and I hope that's true. We need the old Jacks Deli back! Or at least better than what we have now. Jack's Deli is an Eastern European/Jewish deli that's been a part of the community since the 1980's. The original owner grew up in then Czechoslovakia and brought a part of home to the US. Recently the deli was acquired by the Cleveland Restaurant Group. I've been visiting the deli for over half a decade when I crave Eastern European meals. Lately I've been less enthusiastic about visiting due to food changes. RECENT CHANGES: The deli operations have remained unchanged from the customer standpoint. There is still restaurant area and deli. The menu is the same. The hours of operating were reduced with few dinner times remaining. The food recently drastically worsened seemingly due to ingredients. Soups especially took a hit tasting more artificial. ATMOSPHERE: Casual, old style, mom and pop atmosphere. Most guests are families. The front of the business is a deli where you can order your goodies and pay at the counter. The back is the restaurant where you can get seated by the host who is located by the deli. The layout makes entry and exit challenging. FOOD: I always take my food to go, and never dined at the restaurant. I previously ordered many dishes and to be honest can't remember them all. All were good. As a result, I'll talk about my latest order. - Cabbage Borscht ($11.75 for a quart) - I'm from the country who invented borscht and had many borschts in my life from different countries. This is not borscht. It has no beets. It's a vegetable cabbage soup. The menu does not indicate this is a spicy soup, the receipt indicates "hot cabbage soup." The soup is spicy which borscht never is. Worst of all, there is a very strong hint of canned tomatoes or some tomato paste. I couldn't eat more than two spoons of this soup due to artificial flavor. It's very poorly made. It's hard to name this homemade soup as listed in the menu because of artificial ingredients. Real tomatoes would drastically improve this soup. - Mushroom Barley ($11.75) - The soup wasn't pleasant. It tastes slimy. I think that the problem is the base is some vegetable puree. I didn't enjoy it. - Knishes ($7.90 x 2) - I love knishes here and they taste the same as before. Very heavy on the meat (Rueben in my case) and delicious. To be very honest they don't always feel fresh but I love them just the same. SERVICE: Service is average. The guys at the deli aren't too warm or friendly. The checkout people are always nice. There is clearly some miscommunication between the kitchen and the front of the house. Items are frequently promised but then denied. The front of the house seems to not know at all what's available in the back. There has to be some communication or inventory tool to fix this. It's confusing to the first time customers. It's also confusing to me with every order. PARKING: Plenty of parking available with two entrances and exits. The main entry from Cedar Road is the easiest. Stay vigilant as you navigate the parking lot, there are some narrow parts and alleys with two way traffic. The one differentiating factor of this restaurant was its homemade appeal. Everything tasted like someone's Eastern European grandma shared the recipe and prepared the food. Now the food is tasting commercial and lost its initial appeal. I'll be back to Jack's Deli for the deli (knishes) but won't be ordering any restaurant items again. read more

Been coming here for years. There was a recent ownership change as I've been told. The long-time family owners sold to a local restaurant chain. I hope that was good for the family. The menu is the same, the staff is pleasant, and it is clean, but you can feel it's a different place. My LEO was horribly overcooked, as was the veg omelette. Weird to overcook eggs when the place was half-full at 11:00. I need to return and try the CB and pastrami before I make a decision about how the new owners are doing. I used to go to Jack's all the time when I first moved to Cleveland 5 years ago but haven't been in 3 years. I remember it being pretty good but pretty expensive for a kosher-style deli. Is it still good? Still expensive? Yes and yes! I took my long-distance boyfriend to Jack's for a pre-Shabbat lunch when he was in town in mid-April 2025. I had hyped it up and hoped it would deliver. The entire place was very busy and full of yummy looking deli meats and desserts that I had to resist (I can't afford a lot here!). I want to try their Russian tea biscuit next time though and see how it compares to Davis Bakerys! The interior is nothing special and the waitstaff were pretty aloof. Oh well. It's a deli! I ordered a not so hungry portion of Jack's Juicy Corned beef on challah bread and a side of potato salad. My boyfriend, who was keeping kosher for Passover rules the week we went to Jack's, got Jared's Freessers Delight with applesauce. His latkes were yummy and I enjoyed the corned beef slices but the challah bread wasn't that yummy. I've had way better challah. Remind me not to buy my challah from Jack's. The potato salad was pretty good. Very creamy, if that's your thing. Our bill came to nearly $40 for two lunch meals and one soda. That's insane! He enjoyed his meal and had no complaints as he lives in a city with limited options for Jewish food so he was grateful to have anything. I will be coming back to Jack's in the future but maybe I'll try to order food that offers more for my money. read more

We have been to this deli many times. It was sold recently and the people that were there for years are gone and the character has changed. The place doesn't seem as clean as it was and the service is not as good. We had soup and sandwiches. The Matzah ball soup was luke warm and the matzah ball was cold in the middle. The corned beef was still tasty and plentiful for a half sandwich. My wife's turkey sandwich was tasty and ample as well. The deli counter was still there and the baked good were still there. The prices have gone up tremendously. Last time, lox was $46 a pound. Guess we'll continue to go there since it's almost the only game in town. read more

We came here on a Saturday during lunchtime and it was packed. We had to wait in line for quite some time to be seated. You literally wait in a line in a very small crowded area. Once we were seated, our waiter was very fast paced! Got us our water and coffee right away. And took our orders quickly after. The menu was very large and expansive. Plenty of options for vegetarians or gluten-free preferences. We got the mini potato pancakes for an appetizer. DELISH!!! So creamy and good. My husband got the Reuben he said was excellent as well! I got the challah French toast, that was good, but nothing special. The only reason I took off a star was bc the dishes didn't feel the cleanest. Had that diner grime to them. And because I had high expectations for the French toast and it didn't meet them. Again, it was still tasty, I just set too high of expectations for it! A city standard deli with all the classic flavors. My Son's Corned Beef sandwich was good, plentiful and he enjoyed it. I order CB Hash breakfast. The shredded potatoes were raw, splashed with SP and Paprika to resemble cooked but were not, the hash was even less desirable. The toasted bagel was stale. Overall a waste of time and money. Server said that the manager scolded the kitchen BUT I would have preferred a credit towards my next visit or something. Seems like a lot to only eat the eggs. Hard to say where this place is going. Everyone, including the owner seems like they are running around and accomplishing little. Very long wait for a sandwich. The guy behind the deli counter kept complaining about being overworked. He was clearly doing the best he could, but it doesn't seem like they have any real systems in place. Just a bunch of people running around not sure what to do. The pastrami sandwich was meh. It was supposed to be a hot sandwich so one would assume the bread would be toasted and cheese melted. It was just a bunch of lukewarm pastrami thrown on some bread with a piece of cheese. Well I want to rate lower but I think I just ordered the wrong thing. The burger was awful which surprised me when they asked how I wanted it cooked. I then asked for mayo and mustard to cover up the flavor and got either really bad mayo or what I assume was miracle whip. My ask much like a coke vs Pepsi request is that if you don't have mayo and only have miracle whip, just let me know and I won't get it. Fries were over cooked and cold so that was all bad. I love pickles but no dill flavor and overly salty but great crunch! No picture of the fruit bowl but also really not ripe. Watermelon was mealy, pineapple was hard and sour, honeydo was good though. Plus a few decent blue berries. Potato pancake doesn't look good and also didn't hit. But the potato salad and the hearty soup were great. I promised to give the newest owners a chance, since this was somewhere I used to love and frequent a lot. Ordered a corned beef sandwich to go. "Lean" turned out to mean "dry and actually kind of dusty-tasting." The pickles were thin and tough. While waiting, thought I'd pick up some stuff from the counter, but there was no chopped liver, no kugel, and the case was like a third empty. The guy behind the counter didn't even look at me, though the very nice girl at the register helped and took the order. The one star is for her. This place has been here a long time and it's been a while since we've been here. The staff was welcoming and incredibly friendly. Our server was great. I had the tuna melts which didn't disappoint, my son had the Hot BBQ Brisket which he said was amazing. The New Yorker was for my daughter; adequate amount of Cole slaw but needed a little bit of cheese. Overall "quite tasty". My wife was working through some things so she went with the fully loaded soup. Enjoyed everything but the matzoh ball, which she felt was a bit bland. Had the feel of a true old school deli. Corned beef was dry. Asked for under 1/2 pound and they gave me way over. Scales do not show customer the amount or cost. Think ill stay with Slyman's even though its more of a drive. The food was not good. Matzoh ball soup had an off-taste, and bordered on the inedible, as did the pickles. Corned beef sandwich was edible, but used store-bought flimsy rye bread. Server was efficient, but rather unfriendly. This is not a kosher deli, and can't hold a candle to Corky & Lenny's (alas, no more) or David bakery. I definitely won't return. read more
