    Toasted biscuit!
    Jessica R.

If you want an unhealthy breakfast it's good lol All my friends were super hungover from Halloween so they chose this place. The toasted biscuit was yummy but too heavy for me so I couldn't eat much of it. I wanted something with vegetables and the only thing on the whole menu with veggies is the veggie omelet. So I ordered the veggie omelet with cheese and hash browns and it was pretty flavorless. I added a lot of Tabasco. The server was very very hard to understand (strong accent) but she was attentive and refilled our waters often. I also ordered a papaya and it was pretty good. I've had better. It was not busy on a Saturday afternoon and plenty of parking.

Our go-to spot after Daddy-Daughter Friday fishing day!

Looking back at my review 5 years ago, I'm proud to say that Jacks continues to please locals and tourists with delicious, reasonably priced food. I now take my two young boys here after our fishing days since my father passed away. The legacy continues and it's the perfect cap to a fun filled beach day. Our bellies are stuffed with saimin, omelettes, hamburger steak, and pancakes. I enjoy talking story with chef Jack, Michelle (wife), Bianca (daughter) and Helen over the years. I work in the shopping center and will also grab a quick breakfast sandwich or plate lunch. They take a much deserved vacation twice a year since they work EVERY DAY. Apple Pay accepted. Locals approved. Best wishes for continued success and prosperity!

Omelette with Portuguese sausage, mushrooms, green onions and cheese

We were in the area and was looking for some place to eat so decided to try out Jack's Restaurant. It's a little whole in the whole that has breakfast/lunch items and a mix of Chinese and local food. Prices are reasonable and portions are decent. I got the omelette with Portuguese sausage, green onions, mushroom and cheese w/rice and toast. Can't go wrong with an omelette. I ordered my daughter a single pancake which was huge and fluffy. My husband seemed to like his pork chop. Overall food was not bad. Service was good and friendly. They were very accommodating with a baby. Seems like this spot has been for awhile!

Combo #1: 2 strips bacon, 1 egg, 1 biscuit, coffee

I'm glad Jack's is still around - 'āina haina has changed so much, so it's nice that this local spot is still here after so many decades. I've been to Jack's a few times over the years, since I live in the area, but most recently stopped by with my dad. I ordered the combo #1: 2 strips of bacon, 1 egg, a biscuit, and coffee for $9.95. My dad ordered the veggie omelette with hash browns and a papaya on the side. The portions may seem small, but I actually appreciate that because sometimes you don't want to kanak right after breakfast lol. They definitely do have larger combos and dishes that you can order if you're hungrier - but combo #1 was just the right size for me that day. The bacon was satisfyingly crispy and not too oily (I think they must have drained the fat or patted it off), and the biscuit is really good with the honey whipped butter. Egg was a little bland, but it's fine because you can add salt and pepper at the table. The coffee was good, too - it tasted fresh and was nice and strong yet smooth. My dad really liked the omelette and the biscuit, too. The service is good - the waitresses give auntie vibes and stopped at our table periodically to see if we needed anything. They're also super fast!

Always a pleaser, the food the service, always My go to comfort food for breakfast and lunch. Tritons won't be disappointed at all!

Loco Moco ($11.00) It was simple, yet flavorful and delicious. P.S. The restaurant tends to get crowded on weekends, so plan ahead!:)

Still a great option. Known more for their simple breakfasts, Jacks is a whole lot more. Went there recently for breakfast, had the corn beef hash and egg which came with a grilled biscuit and bottomless coffee for $11. Compare that to a Zippys equivalent and you are paying twice as much. And Jacks coffee is great and pretty consistent. The service is nice, the food comes out in a reasonable time. They can get packed, but it's usually worth the wait. Their after breakfast offerings are delicious and on this day they had kalua turkey, lamb curry and Hawaiian chopped steak as some of the lunch selections. Next time you are near Aina Hina, Jacks is a great place for breakfast and to go for a plate lunch. An institution in east Honolulu, lots of parking.

Anytime we are on Oahu , Jacks is the place to go for breakfast every morning. First, the staff are so kind and awesome, always greet you with a smile. It can get busy, but you don't notice it with how efficient they are. The food, is always delicious, never disappoints and at a fair price point. Must try their grilled biscuits! Such a cute place with good vibes.

    Tripe stew
    Michele T.

In the area and in search of breakfast/brunch. The tripe stew caught my parents' attention. Lunch plates come with 2 scoops of rice and choice of soup, salad or biscuit (extra .25 to have these biscuit grilled). Prices reasonable for the portion sizes. Tripe was tender and had a kick to it. Beef stew was more on the vinegary side but the beef was tender. Hubs said the kimchee fried rice was ok.

My Friend raves about this place SO much so I was so excited to finally visit. Jack's Restaurant has been around for decades, and they're known for their classic, comforting breakfast foods (and biscuits lol) We got a couple of different dishes, which all looked pretty small in portion but filled us up quick! Here's what we got: Ham, Cheese and Mushroom Omelette Combo no. 4 (corned beef hash, 1 egg) Set C ( 2 eggs, protein, starch) each item came with a biscuit, and we paid the small extra fee to get it grilled with a side of their honey butter. the biscuit is REALLY DRY LOL but yummy with the butter, and I loved the corned beef hash. Despite the food coming out kind of slow, the service was great - all the aunties were attentive and kind.

First time trying this 60 year restaurant establishment. Vintage style feeling with older style tables, chairs, decor, and cardboard boxes stacked on top of each other. The floors appear clean along with tables. I figured I would try the name sake special of Jack's Special Fried Rice with 3 slices of Portuguese sausage, one egg, and a choice of soup, salad or biscuit for $14.95. My walking buddy selected the Quarter pounder burger combo with cheese and a biscuit for $11.75. Sorry to report but the fried rice was too salty and the rice was soft and mushy, I couldn't eat it. The Portuguese sausage was also salty and soft to cut. The highlight was the biscuit, which was flaky and tasty with the honey butter. I didn't eat the sunny side up egg as the fried rice was just too salty. I took the leftovers home to add rice and stir fry it for a crispier texture. The burger looked good and my walking buddy consumed it along with the biscuit. Service was friendly and our waters were refilled. A service charge of 3% will be applied to all credit card charges. Free parking just outside the restaurant. Food: Fried rice special 2/5 stars Service: 4/5 stars Ambiance: 3/5 stars ( too many cardboard boxes stacked around)

    Good Mac, terrible portion!

Wanted a sit down lunch restaurant in the Shopping center, Jack's came up! Simple casual looking eatery. Ask to sit anywhere, we liked. Friendly waitress, but all business Ordered a hamburger Felix, club and fish sandwiches Side salad was fine, but the side mac salad was kids size. They did not have French fries or chips to go with their sandwich meals.A big let down! Pickles were cut so skimpy! Sandwiches were ok! Would not go back, Not worth the value for the meals served. Breakfast maybe is better! We'll not be back, place looks messy with all the take out boxes in front. They charge a 3 Percent charge for using a credit card, a big turn off! Bye Jacks!!!

Pancake (2)with one egg and one choice meat

I can't believe I never heard of this restaurant ! And they have been around for ages ! From the outside.. it doesn't look like much . So I didn't expect much . But you can't find restaurants like these anymore .. that just serves breakfast how you like it . The inside of the restaurant is nothing fancy and just looks like your neighborhood diner. On the menu ..there were many choices and combinations I actually had a hard time deciding. I wanted to try the biscuit which I heard was good .. and it was good .. specially with the butter .i also ordered the pancakes which was huge .. I couldn't finish it . It also came with one egg and one choice of meat . All that for $12.75 . ( Biscuit was separate with this selection) Staff was friendly and nice . Food came out pretty fast although it wasn't that crowded.... Which we were glad because we were hungry . They also offer a good selection of local plate lunches like .. Sweet Sour Spareribs .. Oxtail Soup .. Kalua Cabbage ..hamburger steak and more for lunch . I guess that's for another visit . It's hard to find places like these anymore that serves good simple local style food. And yes .. they do charge 3% for credit card payment.

If you're not a fan of seafood, don't let the squid deter you as it is a minimal part of the dish and added more of a crunchy textural component rather than actual flavor. This was my wife and my favorite dish. The luau pork was also very good though I liked the version we had at Toa Luau better. We also liked the haupia which was a very refreshing coconut pudding though for some reason our boys didn't like it. We also tried pipikaula which are thinly sliced dry-aged beef short ribs marinated in soy sauce and something else that made it sweet. If you know Korean barbeque, you'll instantly get the sensation that these are close cousins to galbi, though the pipikaula are much less sweet in comparison. The dry aging process also makes them a bit more dryer than galbi. On to more difficult stuff. I was enthusiastic about the fried butterfish collar but once I got a waft of the dish, I knew I was in trouble. I'm very sensitive when it comes to fish so the smell (more than the taste) was off putting. My wife was fine with it and enjoyed the dish, but if you aren't a fan of fishy fish, then I would skip it. The lomi salmon looked very much like pico de gallo with the addition of salt-cured salmon. My boys loved this dish because they love salmon but again I would steer clear if you are a seafood weakling like me. Alas, we come to poi. Had my hopes up since I love taro but the texture and a bit of sourness from fermentation deterred me from trying too much of it. I'm glad we tried it but not sure that we would get it again.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

The salmon belly is cut into bite-sized pieces so I didn't have to worry about using a knife to cut it. The guy at the counter wasn't the most people person ever, but he also got the job done. Didn't get a photo of the guava cake brownie thing they have, but it was really yummy.

The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Then someone wanted to change from rice to poi. I tried many times and no one answered. Their voice mailbox was full. We e ended going there to make the change. He gentleman looked like he was working be himself. We bads to wait almost a half hour for him to finish the order. 2. Price - the prices were higher than expected. All the plates were $26.00 and up. 3. Food - The poi was very tasty and fresh, although a bit watery. The lau lau had a lot of lean pork filling, not a lot of leaves. The long rice didn't have much chicken and was a bit watery too. We enjoyed the sweet potato. There was also lomi salmon, haupia onion and chili pepper water. 4. As mentioned before there isn't much parking. The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there. Overall the food and service was OK. The price was a bit high.
