Tried to supporting a local sandwich shop instead of going to Panera. But looking at the menu is was more Waffle House then Panera. No glam or frills, but the food was prepared like there's an old women in the kitchen that churns her own butter. Actually it reminds me of Shoney... can't remember another menu where there was corn beef hash. Nice cheap breakfast if you're in the area. But be prepared for a short wait.

Ordered at the front counter and was greeted by a friendly young lady... good start. I went in planning to get the muffaleta off the specials board. They checked on it, but no luck... they were out of the cuts needed. I was pointed toward the Italian, but my buddy already grabbed that and I felt like being different. Noticed another special on the wall, a smoked brisket sandwich. Can't remember the exact name, but that's what I went with. Instead of chips or their homemade tots, I grabbed the balsamic roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tables weren't the cleanest and were a little wobbly, but nothing deal-breaking... we made it work. Food came out pretty quick and looked solid. Flavor-wise... a little mixed. The brussel sprouts were very flaky and leafy, almost crumbled apart. You really had to work your fork to get a bite. I was picturing larger roasted halves. Sauce was fine, nothing bad, nothing special. I'd give those a 3 out of 5. The brisket sandwich was interesting. The meat was very fatty and kind of tough to chew through. Not sure if that's just the cut or the prep. I ate about three-quarters of it. It wasn't bad, just didn't hit the way I hoped. Probably still thinking about that muffaleta. Another 3 out of 5. I'd come back, no doubt... but next time I'm sticking with what they're known for. Those cheesesteaks always look great, and that's probably the move. Today was about trying something different, and I'm glad I did... even if it didn't knock my socks off.

This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. I ordered The Ole Smokie, with everything on it and choose cheddar cheese. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. It's worth noting that both sandwiches were big enough that we both took half of each home. I didn't get the name of the two people that were working there this evening, but I'd still like to give then a shout out. They were both incredibly patient with the customers ahead of us and they didn't make us feel rushed even though we were there fairly close to the time they close on Friday evenings. Another good visit to Clarke Bros. Here's hoping it doesn't take us so long to get back here again for the next visit!

I just want to say first and foremost that if you are looking for a quick, clean and fairly quiet…read moreplace to eat along Dunn Avenue, this is a good option. Located in the fully renovated space that was once Country Cabin, this Charley's is the same franchise that many may be familiar with from mall food courts, like at The Avenues or Orange Park Mall. Back in the day I used to mystery shop and was assigned Charley's almost every month. As an independent contractor I would accept the jobs because it didn't take me anymore than an hour to fill out the report after the visit, and we would get 2 free combos, so a free meal. The math worked at the time. It didn't take long before my family just weren't interested in going with me anymore and my experience here reminded me why. This place is clean and well maintained. It is brightly lit and is most definitely not cluttered. When I visited service was professional, although I wouldn't say friendly. For Dunn Avenue, this is actually about as good as it gets. I decided to visit because they are a fairly new restaurant in this area and I had a buy one get one free coupon, so I'll take the risk considering my last experiences with the brand. I really was hoping that this wasn't the same experience that I had in days past. Unfortunately, the problem never really was with the staff. They always seemed to be focused on their job, but not necessarily oozing positivity like a cruise director. A smile would be nice. It wasn't cleanliness or maintenance. For me, the food is the issue here. Specifically the cheese steak. If you've ever had Steak-umm, you'll know what I'm talking about. The meat is pre-sliced, pre-portioned and frozen in individual serving size packages. They simply take the meat out of these frozen packages, put the frozen block on the griddle and put some steam on it to thaw it out and then it cooks. It tastes exactly like frozen steamed meat cooked this way would. And then, there's just no flavor from seasoning to cover the almost gamey flavor or steamed frozen meat. The meat is just plain meat with no seasoning whatsoever. And you would think having two cheese sauces would really add a lot of flavor, but both the orange and white cheese sauces were both quite sparse and flavorless. For me, unfortunately this remains food court food. I don't understand how this is a standalone restaurant. Not a thing that I've ever had on the menu has ever stood out to me. There's not a thing that I would crave. Not a thing that I would return for. Not a thing that I have ever really enjoyed. And for someone like me who really enjoys food of all kinds, it really says something when I would just rather not. Sure, it's clean and it's edible, both uncommon for Dunn Ave, but it's also not cheap and without flavor. Wish I could say differently as I would love another place close by home as an option to eat. I also want to say my rating is based on overall experice where food is not the most important factor.

Food was ok. Service was terrible. The cashier just stood at the other register. No "ill take u…read moredown here" or "how can I help u?" Literally he stood, stared, and hit buttons. There was NO ONE there- which makes sense in hindsight. But my sister and I tried to be overly nice thinking maybe he was having a bad day. Tried to joke, used "please" and "thank u so much." Not even a "ur welcome." They only got the 2 stars cause the steak sandwich was good. I wanted to give ZERO. Had to add salt and ketchup for flavor, but I like that it had all the fixings. I will NEVER be back to that location, as I'm sure residents around there already decided- evident in the lack of customers. They even had the door by the handicap locked. We had to go through another door. We thought they were closed at first. Only after seeing a worker walk around realized they were open and used the side door. No apology or recognition of that either. Especially since I was literally with my handicap sister. Wild to be treated like we inconvenienced a worker by going to THIER job.
