Awesome experience at Larry's Giant Subs. I was on the highway driving home and needed a bite to eat, but am so over fried fast food. Larry's was the perfect decision. This is a larger restaurant with a good bit of indoor seating. The menu is large; loaded with hot and cold subs, hot dogs, soups and more. I got the Italian and really enjoyed it. I never knew this was right there. Customer service was good they made my sandwich so fast I got the Muffaletta. I liked the bread, but I was disappointed with the taste of the sandwich itself. I could have made that, it was nothing special. My favorite sandwich is a pastrami, if they have the right kind of pastrami or a cold cut combo. Grab n go. Never had a Larry's and just wanted something quick and easy to eat while driving. Ordered the animal. Sounded like it had all the good stuff on it. It was just ok. Bread was fresh but the sandwich needed more sauce. Forgot to take a photo of it but it was your standard sub. Service was pretty quick and everyone was nice. Seemed like a cool place for lunch. I was starving after traveling all day and decided to stop in for lunch. It smelled good when I walked in so I had high expectations. I ordered the chicken Philly sandwich. The cashier did not ask any follow up questions so I assumed (which is my fault) that there would be toppings on the sandwich. I got my order in about 6 minutes and took my sandwich Togo. When I made it to my grandma's house in less than 10 mins I opened my sandwich to see that there was literally nothing but chicken, cheese and onions. No sauce, no other veggies nothing. I've been to the sandwich shop 20x or more in the last 3 months while I am remodeling a house. I ordered a sandwich and asked for a water cup. I drink water most of the time. The lady said we are out of water cups. I looked up and there was a stack of regular cups so I asked about getting one of those and assured her I was only going to put water in it. She said she would have to charge me. I said never mind and ate my sandwich and left. Keep in mind there is a Walmart store right across the street that they could buy cups at. This was my hubby's favorite spot in town to get an egg salad sandwich. He said this location (and only this location!) made it fresh every day and did it right! When teen and I were nearby we decided to pay homage to Dad and go in and have lunch. Of course I got the egg salad sandwich and teen ordered an Animal Sub. I remember Mark always asked them to toast the bread twice, so I did the same. The sandwich comes out on warm toasty bread, and is overflowing with egg salad. Truly - get a fork! You'll need one. Add a dollop of salt & pepper and that's all you need for a yummy sandwich. I can only eat half of their 6", so it's nice to have another half to eat later or the next day for lunch. I was leaving Home Depot and noticed this place . I was feeling hungry and since I'm working out of town here, Im getting pretty burned out on the fast food crap . So figure what the heck let's gamble and boy did I hit a winner here . I wasn't real sure what to get so I kept it simple with the turkey sub . The girl at the register was very helpful with ordering. Sand which came out fast and was made well . The bread they use is very tasty . It's not a super fancy place , but it's clean and simple . This is twice in a row that my order was messed up. Last time I ordered the Cuban and for the wrong order and had to bring it all the way back and wait for it to be remade. This time I ordered the Cuban to go and got to work and it was wet and soggy. It was steamed. Cubans are pressed and toasted even at all other Larry's Giant Subs. I decided to call the manager and let him know last two order incidents. He said it was my fault for not telling them to toast it. I said all other LGS sis it automatically bc Cubans are made that way. He said yes but not at that store. He also never addressed previous issue. I won't be going back to that one. While traveling, I was looking for something other than Subway and Firehouse and came across Larry's. It was ok. I wasn't super impressed but I don't feel I waisted my money either. The service was quick and I appreciated that they honor first responders by giving us 10% off with our badge/ID. I got an 8 inch turkey sub and it appears that (unless otherwise stated), they come with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, mustard and italian dressing. The italian dressing was different for a sub but it added a great flavor. I thought the sub was a bit dry but the turkey seemed freshly cut and it was a bit on the thick side. The lettuce was shaved and the subs came with a pickle. I was full and I thought the prices were fair. They offer both hot and cold subs and there are a lot of Italian sub options that I would say you can't find at just any sub shop. I don't eat pork but my partner had "The Big One" and really enjoyed it. All in all, I liked it better than Subway, Firehouse and Publix but I have had better subs. There is no doubt that during the weekly lunch hour, this location is the safest place to be on the Northside of town! If it's not 1/2 to 3/4 full of military customers, it's the sheriff's office! I hadn't been to a location in a long time, but I'm glad I stopped by for dinner at this location. It was clean, quiet, and friendly. My food came out quickly and had been made with care and precision. They have daily specials that come with a drink and chips, usually around $8.99. The girl working the register also brought my food and reminded me to not forget my chips after I forgot to pick them up after ordering. I have been here twice . First time the clam chowder soup was soooooo good and I wasn't told I got a drink with my combo even though I paid for it but it didn't stop me from going back. While it had not been my first visit to Larry's, it was my first to this unit in NW Jacksonville. It was a good visit as there were little surprises such as the sandwich coming out hot and the price for two being under $20. In a contrast from other hero/sub shops in the city, this presented itself as an easy sit down place for lunch. This was my first visit to Larry's and I went with their Philly Cheesesteak sandwich - the bread was awesome - nicely grilled with a good texture and flavor - the steak was well seasoned as well with onions and melted provolone. It was good but not great... taking a little more time to view the menu, they had some more interesting options and I probably could have come out with something more impressive, but decided to go safe on my first time and see how they did with it. I'll definitely go back and see what some of the other sandwiches do for me - the Bomber, Animal, Destroyer and Inferno Steak sound pretty intriguing. read more

So we moved from Chicago area and I thought I'd never be able to find a decent sub or dog... so excited we tried out Larry's. They have Italian Beefs with peppers!! The chili is not good unless you want it on a hot dog... do not eat it thinking its a good side, its not! Im such a fan of Larrys and this is the second location we have tried! I got to work and found out my sub was wayyyyy over cooked.there was only one other table eating lunch when i arrived at 11 am on 06/30/17 so no need for that.My sub meat wasn't even cut up ,the pickle was hot.Everything was just awful.I want this resolved and handled. read more

My ex coworkers & I used to affectionately call them Larry's lousy subs. It was affectionate & widely inaccurate. I'm not sure if I've been to this location before but the sausage & peppers sub I had was quite tasty. Actually I remember the last sub I had from Larry's was quite good also. I previously thought their prices were a bit higher than comparable chains but found that's not the case today. All things considered they're a good bargain. Plus they do have better quality ingredients in my view. This site is in an up & coming area on the Northside near Target & Walmart.
