Lovely little spot for waterfront dining! We stopped by tonight to grab a bite and enjoy the sunset. What a treat! The crowd was mellow, the food was delicious and we appreciated the great selection of local craft beer + delicious cocktails. We tried the grilled oysters, coconut shrimp + a couple small items to share. My partner raved about the oysters while I cherished my prawns. The butterfly cut and shredded coconut crust made this shareable plate truly divine. Our Caesar salad was adequate at best but we still finished the plate without any complaints. You could definitely tell that the team was spread a bit thin, but the flavorful food and great attitudes made up for the slight neglect. Food was served quickly and the Bloody Mary was spicy and delicious. Five star lunch. We decided we liked it so much we would go back and try dinner. The place was busy but we were sat fairly quick at the same table outside. Lovely. Our server finally graced us with her presence and seemed miserable doing it. Everything came out at once. Husband ordered the fish and chips and said there was more breading than fish. The fries were ok. I ordered the cioppino and we got a whole crab to share. The cioppino had a great flavor, but could have used more fish. The whole crab was expensive and over cooked. A bit rubbery and dry. Our waitress did not return to check on us and we didn't get any refills or new drinks. She did pop back to give us the check. Then she didn't bring back my credit card with the receipt so I ended up, absentmindedly leaving it there. Ugh. She had the personality of a doormat. Two stars at best. The cioppino had a bit of everything as usual. It was on the spicy side. I'm not much of a spicy food guy, so my eyes were watering and nose was running. The bread was lightly toasted and fresh. Honestly, this is probably around 3.5 stars. We had a party of seven, and were seated without a wait, but it was a weekday. The service was quick. Ambiance was nice; we had a view of the bay. Food was fine. However, some members of our group thought the fries could be better. Crab cakes were average. The Brazilian stew (rock cod) was a bit too spicy for us. Crab salad sandwich melt was good, but it could have done with a little more crab. Clam linguine's broth was good, if a bit thin. Seared scallops were very good. Cooked just right and fresh. THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST RESTAURANT IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY!!! I'm from down south and I love living here but the only thing that kind of sucks is the food. Humboldt doesn't have a great selection of restaurants, maybe it was better before COVID, but it's not great now. This place is incredible. Second time i have gone there. Second time i have been very disappointed. The wait staff is very inattentive. Never once came over to ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything. Prices are outrageous for the food. Got a crab Louie and the crab was frozen, even tho they were serving whole Dungenous crab on the menu. I asked the waitress after I got it if it was frozen and she said yes. Only fresh crab was the whole crabs. Asked if bread came with the crab louie and she said "yes, would you like some"???? Duh!!! We stopped by Jack's as we were staying across the street at 2nd and C street Inn. My husband and I were in the mood for seafood. So glad we stopped by. My husband ordered the steelhead, veggies and roasted potatoes plate and I had the halibut, steamed veggies and rice pilaf. My husband ordered an old fashion, and I ordered the picante Mary. The food and drinks were delicious!!! The service was great. I would have given this restaurant a 5/5 but the area it is located at is in a sketchy part of town with a lot of random transients. Walking back to our Inn across the street felt a little unsafe since we had our two little kids and a lot of wandering homeless people. read more

Is it possible to find decent seafood on the Eureka Boardwalk? The answer is surprisingly yes. That's probably because the boardwalk lacks any appeal on its own, so I think Jack (..and I assume that's the owner's name) recognized he needed to serve good-tasting seafood to draw the customers. Not a novel concept, just good sense as Jamie W. and I found out just before our Madaket boat cruise. Conveniently the boat dock is right outside the restaurant, so we actually had time to wait for a table. It's a popular spot for sure. The menu was not revolutionary which was fine by us. Jamie ordered his old favorite, the $18 Fish and Chips which consisted of two pieces of beer-battered cod accompanied by "Jack's chips" (...they're actually steak fries) and their spicy coleslaw (photo: https://bit.ly/3ygluA7). He liked it because he rarely has it, and this was a good rendition. I went even more old school and ordered the $18 Tuna Melt which struck me as pricey, but hey, they use albacore tuna, melted cheese, and grilled sourdough so it seemed worth it. Restaurant stands out on the fishing port, as a gem. I wouldn't bring kids, walk around or eat the fries. We always go to Fortuna usually, for dining and lodging. The sweet chili sauce made for a prefect flavor combination. The broth on the steamer clams was delicious too. Loved dipping the grilled baguette in it. So yummy! We liked the clam chowder as well...nice flavor and thickness. The garlic herb butter that came with the chowder was good too. The only thing we didn't care for was the crab cakes. They were overcooked on the outside, kind of dry on the inside, and bland. We left half on the plate and planned on mentioning it to the server, but forgot when they finally cleared the table. We ordered the creme brulee for dessert. It was good and satisfying. Not the best and not the worst creme brulee we've had. Overall a nice experience. Staff was friendly and helpful.
