Super cute old pharmacy/soda shop converted into a burger and shakes place. I love that they kept the soda shop vibe alive. There is just so much history in that. The location is great and right on the corner of the square. I love the local art on the walls, the outdoor seating, the bar seating, a spot for to go orders, etc. There was about a 20 minute wait when we arrived but opted to sit at the bar for no wait. There seemed to be two people working the bar area which included them prepping the ice cream orders and the shakes for the restaurant. It was prime time and they were busy so I will not fault any extra time we waited for anything. Our waiter was great with making sure to refill our carafe of water multiple times. Our order included two of the smash burgers with one opting for the +$6 upgrade of a bowl of soup instead of fries or tots. We ordered an appetizer of the tots that came with a delicious fry sauce and one of the best pretzels I've had in a while. It was the best value for the money and it came with cheese and grainy mustard. That was the star of our meal. My son really enjoyed his smash burger and tots. I got the Swiss Alps smash burger. The meat was seasoned well but I felt the burger as a whole was lacking some flavor. I'm not sure if I got mushrooms or not. I couldn't really taste or see any. The huckleberry onion jam was just too sweet for my preference. I was looking for something with a better balance of sweet and savory. It was still good though. The bowl of tortilla soup was not good. It seems like they combined their tomato soup with their chili and added some chicken, corn, and black beans (unless their chili has corn and black beans). I was not impressed with the soup. Of course being a resort town, the food is a bit pricey but we enjoyed our meal. The bathroom needed a bit of attending as the toilet paper was empty and there were no extra rolls in the bathroom. It is one of the larger rolls. I did have a bit of trouble with my pricing. Our waiter and another waiter tried to explain why we were charged full price for adding on a bowl of soup. A bowl of soup cost $12. I really didn't want to argue so I asked them to bring me the menu so I could show them that is says +$6 for a bowl of soup and +$3 for a cup of soup. While they seemed to still want to debate, another waiter came over and said he would take care of it and that was it. These young men were incredibly busy and I can only say they probably didn't completely know the menu. It was good customer service for the third waiter to step in and take care of us. I will still come back when visiting and maybe next time we will save room for some of the shakes, malts, or ice cream. read more

Fries were a bit limp and not super hot when it got to us. Green goddess salad got 2 of us a little sick (2 of us shared it along with a burger). Others got the same burger and no stomach issues. Ok so i pop into Jackson on my way to Teton Village for a concert hoping to get a milkshake from Jackson Drug. Ive wanted to try this spot for years and finally the stars aligned. I found parking nearby and had time so i popped in to see a wonderful old timey looking breakfast bar style soda bar. Im greeted immediately by a hostess who asks what i want. I responded I wanted a vanilla milkshake as i try to look wt the decor and which empty breakfast bar stool i wanted to sit in as i looked around the shop. Before I know it i have a cardreader screen being turned around to me asking for a tip. I reluctantly oblige and tip and then im immediately told i need to wait outside??!?! Like why wasnt i given the chance to sit down, why am i not allowed to look at the wall decor while seated on an empty stool as i wait? Did i ask for a to go order, no. Very frustrating to be ushered outside like an animal after paying 13$ for a dinky milkshake. Never again would i return here and im sure im not the only one after being forced outside when all I wanted was to sit for 10-15 mins and look around. I use yelp to spread positivity. Overall the food was good and the portion sizes weren't outrageous. I would personally say that the portion sizes are just the right amount for 2 adults. Make sure you know what you want before ordering if you sit at the bar area, they are consistently busy and can't wait since they are doing double duty. The history about this place is pretty cool and the decor is really nice inside. Stopped by for dinner and overall was not impressed. There's a gift shop inside and a cool bar that reminds me of a old school diner. 3/4 - Chicken wings with buffalo sauce - pretty decent wings served with blue cheese and ranch on the side with celery and carrots 2/4 - Grilled cheese with tomato soup - the sandwich was alright, but the soup was sooo salty. It was hard to eat. 2/4 - Chili - also sooooo salty! The chef this day was a bit heavy handed with the salt 4/5 - Strawberry milk shake - the best thing I ordered for sure. Went to this restaurant because of the historic charm and story. Unfortunately that's about the only thing you really will leave with. A visit. Food is 3 stars. Not horrible but not anything I'd write home about for $28 (burger). Chocolate shake wasn't bad but not sure how you can mess that one up. Service... 1 star. We had to wave down someone numerous times. Not once checked on us. Ask for refills, how is the food, need anything, etc... OHHH and here's where I'll never go there again... got the bill (5 people total-split check). Charged all 5 of us 18% gratuity for a "group". Come to find out their menu says we can add 18% gratuity to all orders!!!! No wonder they didn't even try... avoid this place. Came here for lunch and then again later for more milk shakes. It wasn't busy and got seated right away. Everyone is really friendly and attentive. We ordered burgers and a shake. The bison burgers were filling, looked nice upon getting our food, and juicy and tasty. Everything was fresh and would come back again. Food came out timely each time we've been here. I like the decor inside and feels very fitting with the town. Milk shakes are so good. We tried the cookies and cream a couple times and also the huckleberry cookies and cream. tl;dr the huckleberry ice cream is the only saving grace from the otherwise awful restaurant experience Jackson Drug and Original Soda Fountain is a historic Jackson establishment, first opened by Bruce Porter in 1919. While the business has changed locations and ownership a handful of times, Porter's great-granddaughters Nikki and Jessica Gill reacquired and revitalized the storefront, while paying homage to the store's history. Now, the shop serves slightly upscale American diner fare to complement homemade ice cream desserts. The restaurant boasts a stellar location at the northwest corner of the Town Square. The stone-walled building still sports the same black-and-white sign, and a canopied patio space is set up on the sidewalk outside. Inside, the atmosphere is equally retro. As you enter, you are flanked on either side by merch counters as you approach the worn wood-paneled host stand. Dim bulbs hang from the tall, dark pressed-tin ceiling. The mint green walls on the right are decked heavily with antlers, landscapes, and family photographs, while an ornate wooden bar springs from the floral wallpapered walls on the right. Contemporary electronic and pop music echo throughout the room. I first tried Jackson Drug with a hankering for ice cream, and I was directed to order from the take-out counter on the right. I was given large samples on curiously long spoons, and I was immediately impressed by the creaminess. The Cowboy Coffee was light and sugary like a latte, with fine grounds mixed in. Meanwhile, the Huckleberry boasted a vibrant, slightly tart flair, with plenty of whole berry chunks. Even at $12 for 2 moderate scoops, I thought that Jackson Drug was worth the visit, and I was impressed enough to return for dinner. Which, admittedly, was a grave mistake. Our party arrived for an early weekday dinner, and we were immediately seated at a booth in the back. We started with an order of Cauliflower Wings, which arrived shockingly quickly. While relatively tasty, the cauliflower was heavily breaded and served beside totally forgettable buffalo and bleu cheese sauce. In comparison, our entrees took eons. My partner and I split the Elk Burger, topped with smoked gouda, bacon, and "pickles". The sandwich was cleanly cut in half and came with double the fries. We ordered the patty medium, and it came well-done and dry as a bone. The pickles would be better described as cucumbers drenched in vinegar -- my partner (who usually loves pickles) tossed them to the side. We also got a few side sauces, each of which cost a dollar extra. The Huckleberry BBQ had no notes of huckleberry, the Fry Sauce tasted little more than plain mayo, and the Bacon Jam consisted of undercooked bacon tossed in thin brown sugar syrup. Even my heavily anticipated Huckleberry Shake fell far short of expectations. I specifically asked for my shake to arrive with the entrees, and our server blatantly ignored me -- it arrived almost immediately, and I had no choice but to drink it immediately before it melted. Further, the staff split it without our asking and charged us an extra dollar for the "service". While creamy and somewhat flavorful, the shake, unfortunately, lost most of the pizzazz of the a la carte scoops. Service was a trainwreck. We had to ask for water and napkins multiple times before they were delivered. Our waiter was nowhere to be found when we needed them, yet awkwardly approached our table when we didn't. Further, no one bussed our dishes throughout the visit. This meal wouldn't have been enjoyable even if it was free. It was an obvious one-star experience -- but I enjoyed the huckleberry ice cream (not the shake) enough to bump up the review to two stars. If you must visit, then order a huckleberry ice cream cone, and walk across the street to enjoy it in the park. read more

I wanted some huckleberry ice cream while in the area, so Nate and I stopped by Jackson Drug on our last full day in Jackson. A single scoop is $6 and is actually just a single scoop (vs some other places where you really get two scoops). I also got a rum punch cocktail which was just ok - it tasted pretty medicinal. We did have to wait about 15 minutes to get the ice cream because they'd just swapped out the ice cream so it had to soften a bit. The food at Jackson Drug is quite pricey; I don't think I'd eat a full meal there but the ice cream was really tasty. Our server was really polite and they seemed on top of things. Went to the Jackson drug for lunch. It used to be the local drugstore converted to a lunch spot complete with soda fountain. I ordered a chicken bacon ranch sandwich w/ fries and a huckleberry milkshake. I highly recommend stopping in for ice cream, shakes, malts etc. the food was ok but nothing spectacular for what is charged. Service was pretty good, I sat at the bar at the soda fountain. The food here is alright. Nothing spectacular but also nothing terrible. The seating is what's nice here. Even with huge groups they usually always can accommodate you and the location is prime. The service is also pretty nice. We have always gotten really nice servers. So while this isn't top notch food it's still decent food with good ambiance. So if you are just looking to eat some food and not be picky this is a good spot. read more

Always consistent great food with plenty of menu options. The staff here is super friendly and attentive and the location is great in the heart of Jackson. I highly recommend the tomato soup, definitely one of my favorites from here. I love this place and I love the family that owns it but my parents sister and I went in for dinner last night for my birthday because I wanted a milk shake (so amazing) unfortunately the service was just okay. Ordered the smash burger off the specials menu because I wanted the grilled onions and bacon unfortunately that didn't happen was just a normal burger. My dad ordered a milk shake with his meal asked for no whip cream or cherries came on it then my sister and I ordered a milk shake to go but asked to be put in two cups. Just an FYI they charge you to split the shake into small cups (way smaller portion for the same price if you order to go or I guess ask to split?) and no lids? just felt like our waitress was rushing us and didn't really listen to anything we said. It smells amazing when you walk in here! We only ordered milkshakes and dessert, so I can't attest to the food. They make the milkshakes "fresh" so you get the actual aluminum cup that was used to make the shake. Oh my goodness was it tasty! The group got Oreo, huckleberry, and strawberry. It was quite decadent, so I recommend sharing with someone since the portions are pretty large. Pawing thru town we decided to try this place out. It's such a cute place in a cute town. The root beer float and huckleberry shake were good. The bison burgers... I didn't enjoy as much. I think there was too much going on. The pickles were so thick that the flavor over powered the meat. After I took the vegetables off and added a little salt then it was better. Sadly my daughter said her burger tasted weird and the Mac and cheese was watery. Even our server wasn't the best. He rushed us through our order and just wasn't very friendly. Jackson Drug is at a prime location, in the middle of town, across from the park. We came here at dinnertime on the weekend during peak season, and had to wait about 15 min for a table, which seemed reasonable compared to other restaurants. The food hit the spot after a long day of hiking. The elk and bison burgers were very good. For the sides - the chili was alright, and the portion of fries was generous, as much as the fries were perfectly crisp and soft. I really enjoyed the huckleberry milkshake, which was the highlight of the meal - I would highly recommend this item to anyone. We had solid dinner service. The restaurant had an almost pub-like atmosphere inside. The meal seemed a little pricey, but understand that these are peak season Jackson prices post-inflation. Although we dined in, I also noticed off-hand that for certain orders, there are extra charges for take out. Parking is difficult nearby the restaurant, but not too bad if you are willing to look for street parking a couple blocks over and walk over. read more

At first I thought this was a drug store. But I soon realized they are known for their milkshakes. It is a restaurant too but once I heard they had the best milkshake, I had to try it. It had been a while since I had a good milkshake. Anyway, I ordered an Oreo shake. I think they only have one size and it is large. The shake was about $10 and worth every penny. It was the best shake I ever had. There were lots of Oreo pieces in the shake. They have tables outside where you can dine. People were eating things like burgers and chicken tenders and fries. I just wanted the shake. It does take awhile to receive the shake because they are pretty busy. They also sell ice cream here by the pint. The classic burger was $16 and I was surprised to find that the large patty was moist and flavorful (some of the online reviews had me worrying the burger would be dry). It feels like you're a bit of an annoyance for asking a question or needing clarification. This could be related to how busy it was but I didn't appreciate how some people were reacted to. My burger and fries came pretty quickly as did my drink but I just couldn't stay any longer to actually try the ice cream. It felt more like I was in NYC than WY.
