At Yellowstone, we admired many bison up close and personal, and we saw a few elk at Yellowstone and Teton.

Upon arrival in Jacksonhole, we stopped by Creekside Market to grab sandwiches to go, which is about a 20 minute or so drive from the airport. Creekside Market is a small market in a strip mall next to Dairy Queen. It has all your basic food and fishing needs in addition to a deli and liquor market. The deli serves sandwiches, salads, soup, and breakfast burritos. For the deli sandwiches, you fill out a paper slip at the counter and they make it on the spot for you. We ordered three custom sandwiches- one turkey, one beef, and one meatball sub with varying veggies and cheese and all toasted. While the turkey and beef sandwiches were good, the MEATBALL SUB was the star of the show! It may have been the BEST sandwich I've ever had. It is stuffed with eight HUGE beef meatballs slathered in marinara sauce and gooey melted provolone cheese (the cheese pull was 10/10!). It was savory, juicy, peppery, and everything a good meatball sub should be- I can still imagine the taste today and am still drooling for it! I was full eating just half a sandwich and so I had plenty to share with my family members who agreed it was a top-tier sandwich. I would go back to Jacksonhole just for this sandwich!!! Service was fantastic and we got our food within 15-20 minutes after ordering, considering it was during the lunch hour rush. Sandwiches are anywhere between $11.50 a $18.50 for an 8" sandwich (or a little less if you want a 6" sandwich). Note that there is no seating and so takeout is really the only option here. The bathrooms and floors are clean. Overall: 5/5 for food, 5/5 for service, 5/5 for ambiance

I ordered the filet flight (elk, bison & beef) and enjoyed every last bite. The sides, especially the mac 'n' cheese, were delightful. I mean how greedy do you have to be? It's a small thing but it sets the tempo to offer some bread. The service at Gun Barrel moves on the slower side. Food took 30 minutes to reach the table after ordering. I'd say that's a bit tardy for a steakhouse. The decor is exactly what you'd expect and it does a good job of feeling like a hunting club cabin. Wish they'd put a fire in the fireplace though, if it is an actual functioning fireplace. I ordered the ribeye. The steak had good crust, flavor, and seasoning. It was pretty damn tough. I had to revisit the menu and yep these were choice cut steaks. Kind of pricey for choice meat at that. Even the cap of the ribeye was needing to be chewed on repeatedly in order to swallow it. It was tough even by choice standards. It was a shame because the chef knew what he was doing. The temp was right, it was seasoned well, beautiful crust... just a crap steak he had to work with. A quick word on my side of mashed potatoes. They were okay but you get a pathetic amount, maybe about a cup worth. Just another thing that makes this place feel cheap. My date ordered the salmon. It tasted fishy and had no seasoning on it at all. Like zero salt or pepper. The fishy taste was notable, like it was starting to spoil but they cooked it up anyway instead of throwing it out. I would avoid this place.

I got the 12 count dry rub chicken wings, with Mac and cheese and fries as my side. My boyfriend got the half pound brisket with potato salad and fries as his. The dry rub chicken had a good amount of flavor, but it was the tiniest bit overcooked. The sides were honestly the stars of the plate. The Texas toast was buttery and so good. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the Mac and cheese were so creamy and full of flavor. The brisket was tender and not super greasy. However, the outer layer is extremely salty so I would double down on the sauce. The potato salad was good, but nothing crazy. I think the portion sizes are absolutely massive and you'll definitely leave with a full belly. The ambiance is pretty neat, but service wasn't the fastest, but food came out in less than 15 minutes. It seemed like maybe they were short staffed this day. Our waiter was nice, but he had a lot of tables to wait on, so he wouldn't come over unless we flagged him down.

Filet was perfectly cooked to my medium request, tender, and perfectly seasoned. They tout USDA prime meats, and I have no doubt that's what they serve. Hubs ordered his steak be served on their 600 degree salt block, and he was a bit hesitant that it could easily be overcooked. It arrived at the table, he removed the steak from the extremely hot salt block and each piece he placed back on the salt block before eating. I actually did the same with several pieces of my steak. I was amazed at the additional flavor this salt block added to an already delicious filet! Our shared sides were very good, too. My husband, the cookie lover, ordered the chocolate chip cookie à la mode which is served fresh from the oven in a small cast iron skillet. I had a hard time keeping my spoon out of his delicious dessert - so glad he shares. We were seated quickly and our server was very helpful making recommendations. You can expect the ambiance is typical of a traditional steakhouse- handsome wood paneling and bar, dim lighting, candle lit tables and white table clothes.
