I ordered back ribs and UPS took 6 days to get them to my house. I sent a one-sentence email to JHBM that said "The package arrived today - warm and spoiled". The next morning there was an email from Greg that offered either a duplicate order or full refund. I took the duplicate. The ribs arrived today STILL FROZEN. I will be back to say how they cooked. I will be ordering from JHBM in the future based on their customer service alone, and if the ribs are anything comparable to their service; I'm positive they're going to impress my IN-LAWS which is the whole point. As a Private Chef, I've been a customer of JH Buffalo Meat Co. for over 30 years. Back to the days of the original shop on Gregory Ln., and then the storefront shop where it is now. I've watched the current storefront, that used to be filled with all sorts of gift ideas, food items, and the 2 freezers with assorted wild game steaks, dwindle down to the current store that is now 2 freezers only. Everything else almost gone. Store space reduced, too. The scale at the cashier is now in the back (hint hint). I'm assuming they are doing most business online these days. Most of the time I buy bison there, and frozen huckleberries. Two items Jackson Hole is known for. Since Covid 4 years ago, their price of Bison tenderloin has increased by 300%. It started slowly, but keeps increasing. It is now $82.95 per pound. Sure, I understand during Covid, the demand/price went up, but the supply dwindled. I've had a "wholesale" account there for many years. I appreciate the 10% discount. I have a couple issues that occurred recently. One is the customer service. I called the store to place an order for a 3# piece of bison tenderloin. I've done it before several times, but pre-Covid. The person I talked to was the answering service. She told me "they are open". She said she would pass it on. Later, after never hearing back with a confirmation, I drove 20 minutes to Jackson, only to find the store closed. I called the answering service to leave another message asking what the store hours are? Again, she said "they are open". This happened to me last summer, too. Inconsistent store hours. Later, I got a voicemail from the owner, Chris. Told me he would be there the next day. The next day, again I drive 20 minutes to Jackson, only to find a note on the door about an issue needing attention, and were closed. The next day, call the answering service. Again told, "they are open". Again, I drive 20 minutes to the finally "open" store. The owner, Chris, comes out from the back, and I tell him I had called several times to order a bison tenderloin, and he says, "oh yea...we only sell whole tenderloins...5#-6#. Also, "we don't carry huckleberries anymore. They are extremely hard to find." (yet, on the internet, they are everywhere. The shipping times were too long for me, though.) So, extremely frustrated about the lack of communication over the last few days, I buy 7 individual 6oz. steaks (2.6 pounds). It should have been 42 oz. charged at current market value ($82.95 per pound). As the owner puts the steaks in a big brown shopping bag, he says, "I need to weigh this in the back". He comes back, and I pay. Later, I look at the receipt. He charged me for the steaks, packaging, and shopping bag...3.14 lb @ $82.95! Basically, I paid an extra @ $20 for packaging. I should have seen the red flag when he went in the back to weigh. WTF. I hope JH Buffalo makes it. They won't get my business anymore. There are now other markets locally that offer bison tenderloin and huckleberries. read more

AVOID! We have been to this place many times but anymore all the way back to previous owners. We stopped in to look around and pick up a few things. Big mistake! My wife went in first while I was putting some things in the car. She had our service dog with her which is a 4 pond Yorkie which was in her arms. We have done this several times in the past with no problems. Not this time. The man in the place told she could not have the dog inside and the health department wouldn't allow. She pointed out that she is a service dog. To which he stated he didn't care and she would have to leave now. She reminded him that it was the law ADA. Again he didn't care and told her to get out. Than he got very indignant with her and started using the "F" word. She walked out before I got in and he followed her out screaming the "F" word at her. I love wild game meat!! When I discovered Jackson Hole Buffalo Meat Company, it was a definite must do to order from them. I ordered last year from them and was definitely impressed with the quality of their buffalo and elk meat. This year was a definite must do for a Christmas special treat. They guarantee a two day delivery from Jackson Hole Wyoming. All their meat comes packed in a special syrofoam cooler with dry ice to keep the meat frozen. Everything is delivered by FedEx. FedEx sends you updates on your delivery so I was expecting my delivery by 8 pm on the second day. Well, no delivery came by 8pm. I immediately sent an email to Jackson Hole Buffalo Meat Company regarding the situation. I explained my concern since there is a two day guarantee on delivery and was very concerned about the meat coming thawed. Especially since my order was almost $400 of Elk. The next day I received two calls. One from the owner Chris reassuring me that he would make everything good if it came thawed out, and another the gentleman from the distribution center. Both, very concerned, reassuring, and helpful. I really appreciated that. Delivery came around 5pm and thank goodness still frozen!! Dry ice gone but meat totally frozen. I immediately called to let them know all was well and to thank them for their excellent customer service. I tried all the summer sausage and I think that they are good. Many others use small percentages of elk or bison in their summer sausag, so 100% is a plus. My only thought is that they seem to have a water content that is noticable and most of the summer sausage we have made by the processors of our venison does not. I wonder how much water content they put in the product for weight n volume? Otherwise it is a good product for a high output commercial meat company. read more

I was in Jackson Hole after spending a week at Grand Teton and Yellowstone, and I was looking for some souvenirs to bring home. At Yellowstone, we admired many bison up close and personal, and we saw a few elk at Yellowstone and Teton. I had read that bison meat is a very healthy and more environmentally sustainable alternative to beef, and that supporting the bison meat industry is a good way to support the bison species. With that in mind, I wanted to check out the Jackson Hole Buffalo Meat company for some bison and elk souvenirs. The store is an a little strip mall, next to a supermarket, and has plenty of parking. The fellow behind the counter was very friendly and offered me samples of their buffalo and elk salamis. The salamis were very lean, but were still tasty. They're very similar to a soft beef salami, but not at all like a traditional hard pork salami. Since they're not hard salamis, they require refrigeration, however the frozen salamis can be kept out for up to 8 hours, which was just long enough for my flight back to San Francisco. I also bought some Trapper Style Buffalo jerky, and it was quite simply some of the the best jerky I've ever had. It's super flavorful and delicious. The jerky made up of solid slices if bison meat - not the ground up stuff that you might find with inferior jerky. The meat is very substantial and satisfying. My only regret was not buying more salami and jerky. Everything was eaten within 2 days of me getting home. It was that good! read more

Gary, my husband, and I were visiting Jackson Hole, WY. We were shopping at the local grocery store and spotted this store in the same shopping center. I was thinking of finding a special food gift from Jackson Hole for my office staff, and voila! This was the perfect answer! This lovely little store has a stash of buffalo and elk meat jerky, sausages and meat cuts in small and large packages. We saw a customer leave with a number of these items, very happy. The sausage is kept refrigerated, but has a little bit of tolerance time to allow for travel time to get it to its next refrigeration. The jerky does not need any special care-just an appetite. The meats are "sustainable" and not full of chemicals. The store clerk was proud of what this store offers (she was not part of the ownership) and was eager to share samples, which was great fun and were VERY tasty, to my surprise. She cut small tasting strips from a variety of jerky's for Gary and I to sample. It sold itself. I found the elk meat especially tender, and the jerky was not too salty, either. A few samples were a bit peppery, so we opted for the least peppery of the bunch. A sample price was around $10 for 4 ounces of elk jerky. There are a variety of options, so pricing really varies. The store also offers other Jackson Hole-area goodies of the food and non-edible types, such as furs, the popular huckleberry jams and syrups, and other Western motif items. It was a tastily decorated store, if I say so myself (no pun intended, really). This company also does major mail order, so you can buy a very, very unique and healthy gift for someone without leaving your home! Just so you know this is a reputable company, a local came dashing in to order some huge piece of meat (buffalo) for a party she was having. So the store caters to locals as well as tourists. I highly recommend trying this! Don't go in if you don't plan to buy--because you will want to walk out with something! read more

Awesome customer service. We had heard about this company from friends who had vacationed in Jackson Hole a year or two back, and loved the store. This past November, we were at their home, and they brought up the story again and how delishes the meats etc. were that they bought from Jackson Hole Buffalo Meat Co. After we left, I told my husband, we know what we can get them for Christmas now! Our friends received their order in perfect condition and were thrilled! And said they will have us over soon for a little BBQ so we can give it a try as well. This is where the excellent customer service comes in - Today I get my December credit card bill, I see I was charged twice. I call, and I speak to a Dan (Who I didn't realize was the owner, till I see his name here on Yelp) He looks up my order, sees the mistake, lets me know he will have to look at credit card receipts, etc. but will get back to me by the end of the day. Well, its not the end of the day yet, and I get an email, saying he was going to credit my credit card, and then will continue to look at the orders and receipts, and If he sees its in his favor he will call me. WOW! Incredibly nice and easy to do business with. I emailed him and told him thank you, and that we will be ordering again and again from this company! I visited Jackson earlier this month and tried elk for the first time, and fell in love immediately. I knew I needed to find a place to get it in Texas but had no luck. Came across these guys and ordered elk tenderloin. All I can say is WOW. The shipping was fast, easy and convenient. I cooked my elk tonight, took my first bite and said "OH MY GOD". It honestly may be better than when I had it at a restaurant in Jackson. I have always eaten beef but I may never go back after having elk. We were kinda excited, we got to meet the owner Dan Marino. He gave us a tour of the place, we got to watch how they make the salami and jerky. We brought a cooler with us to buy game meats if we should find the opportunity and found Jackson Hole Buffalo Meat by chance. We chose an assortment of elk and bison cuts, stew meat and ground. We received excellent service, a fantastic deal on a bison primerib because they were out of the roast we wanted, and our cooler was packed up for us for the trip home. Once we got home, I started comparing prices from local bison ranchers and retailers on-line and found out what an INCREDIBLE deal we got!
