I live in Southern California and came about this dealership in somewhat of a fluke situation. I wasn't looking to get a great deal at the end of the model year and did a 500 mile search on Cars.com as inventory was limited. As it turns out, JLR Monterey was the only one who had the car i was looking for and they were only 493 miles away. My purchase was conducted almost entirely over email and text message (which I prefer) with Adam Linder at first and ultimately Jonathan Bell. Both were fantastic to work with. Despite it being a busy weekend, they were always available to answer one of my hundreds of "quick questions". As I shopped around at other dealers locally, none matched Jonathan's customer service and sales approach. Easy to work with, no pressure, responsive and always helpful. Paperwork was easy and they connected me with a transport company that was also great to work with. I'm not sure I'll find myself in the position to buy another car from 500 miles away, but in many ways it was more easy than buying from a local dealer so I wouldn't rule it out. Very disappointing! My husband took our car to get it serviced, and I had left my Prada sunglasses on the driver's side door the previous day. He drops off the car the sunglasses are there, he picks up the car the sunglasses are gone. He tells them that his wife's sunglasses are missing, so they look around and tell him that no one has seen them and to go check at lost and found. He goes to lost and found and they have nothing, they tell him they will have Mike ask around and he will call him back. Mike doesn't call back in the next couple of days, so he calls the dealer and they say Mike is not there and that he will call him back. This goes on for a couple of weeks; Mike is never available when he calls, and he never calls him back. Finally he calls one day and Mike is available; he tells my husband he asked around, and no one found them or has seeing them, and that was it, they washed their hands and my sunglasses are gone no one responded for them. $300+ sunglasses just disappear from a customer's car while taken to get a service done, and no one is held accountable? And management just says: we don't know, we haven't seen them sorry! Jaguar of Monterey you could have handled it better! That same day they gave my husband a very bad diagnosis on the car rotors. They told him he needed to replace the rotors as soon as possible because he was almost out of breaks and he needed to do that before rain season. It was going to cost over $3000 for the work. My husband panicked about not having breaks, so he asked a mechanic friend of ours, who works for Lexus, to check it out and our friend said that the rotors had barely any wear and that we had breaks for at least another year; he also said that the way we drive it, we might have breaks for two more years. Be careful with the diagnosis they give you on your car, ask for second opinions. Should we have not asked, we would have ended up paying over $3000 for unnecessary work! read more

Service, responsiveness, professionalism, friendliness and value exceeded our expectations. Negligent Service I took my Land Rover for an oil change to have it ready for a weekend trip A few miles driving down the freeway, the oil warning light on the dashboard turned on. I pulled over, opened the hood and check the oil level. The first thing I noticed, the oil level was an extremely low barely touching the dip stick used to check the engine oil. Immediately look for a gas station and added almost two quarters of oil to reach the recommended level. I checked for leaks and everything looked good. After that I was able to drive 800 miles without any incident. Obviously, the mechanic who did the oil change didn't pay attention on the amount of oil used and also didn't check the oil level before returning the car to the client. That mistake could ruined the engine and kept me standing on the freeway for long time. Trust is everything when you service your car and I won't recommend this dealership. read more

The service here has been horrible. We have taken our Maserati in here for service twice. The last time, we dropped it on a Monday. They, to their credit, were very concerned that they didn't have a suitable loaner car, which we found fairly humorous.. not a big deal. We were called on Thursday and told that the car would be ready for pickup on Friday. We were traveling in from the Valley, and Friday didn't work, so my wife went down on the following Tuesday, after calling and leaving two messages... one on Friday and one on Tuesday AM prior to leaving to confirm it was ready... neither was responded to. When she got there around noon, she was told that it would not be ready till 5:00 pm.... no apologies, no remedies, no restitution. Just WAIT. Rather than driving back and forth, she did just that. When she did pick it up, she received no apologies or offers to do anything to make it right... just matter of fact service that you might expect for a used Hyundai... no offense intended to Hyundai owners, you deserve better too! We had asked 4 times for a "quote" on a replacement key, as we had lost our spare. We were quoted $ 411, almost twice what Maserati of Bakersfield quoted us. PLEASE... do yourself a favor. You have options... better ones. If you are looking for a new or used luxury car, go buy it from a luxury dealer that will treat you properly. read more

The dealers I was in contact with were very nice, but I did feel rushed with the transaction. Most of why I didn't give more stars and complaints can be seen in the email I just sent them: I just wanted to thank Dan for the help on Tuesday. It was a quick visit that day and I was able to get home safely (and excitedly) that night in my new car. I want to tell you about my frustrations from Wednesday when I brought the car back for detailing. I know Dan wasn't there so I want to fill him in. I got to the dealership at 930 where I was told it would take 2 hours for the job to be completed. Doug hooked me up with a car and I ran some errands. When I returned at 1130, my car was just then being pulled into the garage for detail. Doug said it wouldn't take long. The car was done in 20 minutes, he said they had 3 guys on it. I had not slept much the night before and I had to nap before work that night so I didn't inspect the car much when I got into it. As I'm driving home, I notice all they really did was vacuum the carpet. I could've done that myself. I was more concerned about all the nooks and crannies. There was still little splashes from the previous owner's drinks on the console, dust on the dash, crumbs within the steering and on the seats. When I got home, I opened the trunk where they did not vacuum and a sheet of dust on the ledges in the back. This is not my first time buying a used car, I know what they look like when they're in the lot to be sold, and you would not have put this car on your lot like this. I understand that "it's practically new", but I would like it to feel really new. It's a big deal to me that I can spend this money on this car and at this point, I feel like I'm borrowing someone else's. I feel that coming down on Wednesday was a huge waste of my time, gas, and mileage. If I would've known the detail would have been halfway done, I would've waited to test drive until it was done. I don't feel it's worth the drive from Santa Cruz again right now, nor can I make the time until after the holidays. I can go get some wipes, a toothbrush, and vacuum it out myself, however I would appreciate that if/when I need to come down for service that I have a complete and extensive detail and a gas card for the pointless drive I did on Wednesday. I guess I just expected more for a higher end dealer, but they really didn't live up to the name and standard. read more

I am shocked to see the positive reviews for this dealership, my experience from car buying to service has been horrible. When we purchased our jaguar the salesman was impossible to get a hold of and extremely unhelpful despite having a $1,000 deposit to hold our car. We should have walked away then. Since then we have experienced minor problems from the sun roof not working requiring multiple visits to a rude service department all the way to having the car towed to the dealership with engine problems. The nail in the coffin came when I took the car in for the 32k service (I had been told to bring it in for service every 16k) and they chastised me for not bringing it in every 10k! So not only have I been driving my car on an improper service schedule but then was treated like it was my fault! The service is paid for I would have been happy to bring it in! Don't they have computers that tell them how often a car needs to be serviced?!? Despicable way to do business. Would never recommend purchasing a car or getting it serviced here. read more

I recently purchased my second Volvo, a XC60 through their overseas delivery program. Their salesman, Doug Foster made representations to my wife and I that we would receive an extra nights lodging in Gothenburg, and a loyalty bonus of upwards of $1000. Neither happened. When we arrived at the factory delivery center we spoke with several other couples who had received the things we were promised. He also failed to follow thru on the delivery date that I had requested. In December, when the car was about to be delivered to the dealership I called the owner of the business Sam Linder and conveyed my displeasure with the process and was told that they would make things right. Sam indicated that his general manager would get back to us with some sort of restitution. That has not happened either. I can see from other reviewers that this is not an uncommon event. The car itself and the treatment received in Sweden was above and beyond. read more

I bring my Volvo in for regular oil changes, and they have always been great. I didn't buy my Volvo from them and it wasn't under warranty, but when the engine malfunctioned they went out of their way to get Volvo to replace the engine--FOR FREE! I really can't say enough good things about the team at Land Rover. My heart was set on a particular car with very specific requirements: model, price, color and package. Locating my dream car was similar to finding a needle in a haystack. Julian Keogh in particular, would not give up until he found it. I did my own research and even visited the Stevens Creek Dealership in SJ where I found the experience frustrating and less than transparent. As a woman looking to buy a car, it can be a challenge to be taken seriously and treated as an informed customer, but this was not the case in Monterey. It would have been easy for Julian to try and "talk me into" a different automobile in order to expedite the close of a sale, but instead Julian kept listening. I can't say enough good things about Jaguar Land Rover Monterey and their staff, especially Dan, Graham and Jonathan. We purchased the Evoque, and after getting the run around from the Stevens Creek dealer in San Jose, decided to call this Monterey dealer because they had the car we wanted in their inventory. I talked to Dan on the phone, and within 15 minutes we had exact pricing on the lease we wanted - no games, no wasting any time - straight forward honest, easy and convenient. We bought the car that same day by phone, put down a deposit. The next morning we realized we had the wrong color. Called Dan again who was awesome and immediately went to his lot to find the other car we wanted in the right color! The next day we drove to Monterey and Graham was there to greed us and give us the full explanation on all the features and options on the car. The paperwork was ready. We met with Jonathan and just needed to sign. It was so easy and hassle free. The staff is extremely professional and just wants to be helpful and make it as smooth as possible. I took my Volvo in to the dealer because my check engine light came on. The service advisor Tommy told me that they would take a look and call me in the afternoon to let me know what was going on. Well, afternoon came and went and I hadn't heard from him. I called and left a few messages (I was at work and needed to know what my next steps should be) he finally called me back with a list of problems that needed to be done "right away" that I would be "stranded on the side of the road" if not fixed ASAP. I told him I needed to call him back with my decision, I wanted to call around to see if I could get a second opinion and what other mechanic's would charge. Well after finding a garage that would charge much less, I called Tommy back and told him not to do anything and that I would be picking up my car after work. When I get to the dealership, Tommy told me that even though he "knew that he needed to ask for my permission" he went ahead and changed a part that would cost me $398! I told him I didn't want that done, after that he became very rude telling me that I need to bring my car back to replace the new part with the old one and so on. I will not be taking my car back to this dealer in the future. Yes I am a woman, and no I don't know anything about cars but I do however know when I'm being given the run around. So for all the trustworthy mechanic's out there, you might want to give Tommy a call for giving your profession a bad name. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Jaguar Monterey! The receptionist was welcoming and the salesman were super nice!! This was no ordinary car buying experience! We started with Christopher Hamilton and he was knowledgeable and easy going! We didn't want to drive any cars the first day we went because it was heavily raining. So we set another day to test drive. We cancelled and Christopher was super nice about it. We decided we wanted to test drive on another day and he wasn't working but he set us up with Julian Keogh. We were already loving Christopher's style so a little apprehensive but decided we were ready to purchase a car. Julian was friendly and no pressure. Made a sweet deal and David who takes all your info was funny and friendly too! All and all a perfect experience! We drove it home today and we feel great being a part of this Jaguar family! Picked up our new Range Rover HSE on a lease. Julian and Al were the sales reps who helped in the process. Showing me the wide range of products and no pressure to test drive were great. The delivery process was excellent. Getting through the paperwork process was excellent. Getting from an advertised to actual price is typical. They have a great deal of inventory to choose from and it really is great to see the different choices - F type, Levante, XC90, to the Range Rover all in one building. However, dealing with numbers is typical car process which I would hope could be refined. If a price is advertised, then stick to it. But when you read the fine details - it only pertains to one particular car which is rarely the one that you want. Then it is the back and forth of basically pricing out each car individually between buyer, sales rep and management. I expect this is due to the fact that Land Rover has no financial arm to its business. Residual values and money factor seem to change weekly and per car based on model and options. Also make sure that everything is in writing - price quotes and offers. If they could fix this issue, it would be a the perfect dealership. The beginning and the end of the car buying process were absolutely excellent. Just the middle part that needs some work. But even with this, a much better experience than dealing with other Land Rover dealerships in the Northern California area - where some never responded to internet inquiries or did not even want to talk numbers until you came to their dealership. read more
