Was looking for a Breakfast spot after a Dr's appointment and was directed here. Went for breakfast but ended up eating lunch. I ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich and fries and Mario had the pulled chicken lunch platter. The food is amazingly good and reasonably priced. The service is very attentive as it seems every server is eager to assist from bringing waters to answering questions about the menu. The ambience is that of an old Diner. With all the decorations and snacks guns on the walls, one doesn't have time to read their phones. We will definitely be back for breakfast... and for lunch. read more

Decided to stop by at Jake's with my BF after walking around at Monrovia's Friday market. It's been a while since we had BBQ so we thought we'd give this place a try. We ordered the Monster Rib Combo to share (~$35) thinking it'd be enough and good but we were disappointed. This meal came with 1/2 rack baby back ribs, 2 BBQ pork ribs, 2 beef ribs, choice of 2 sides ( we got backed beans and mac & cheese), and 2 baked corn muffins. The meat was a bit rough and the mac and cheese was not good at all...it tasted fake? We ended up finishing everything cause we don't waste food but we're still hungry and unsatisfied. I food was very good. I ordered the sliders lunch and it was great! We also ordered the appetizer sampler, it was huge!! The portion was so big I couldn't finish my slider lunch! I was looking for a place that had outside seating and this place looked good. We came over and there were tables along the sidewalk and we found out there was also another patio out back to eat. We decided on a Diablo chicken patty sandwich for me and a Turkey burger for my wife, both came with fries. The service was really good and in just a few minutes we got the food. The pictures you can see in my review, but they were both great and the fries were right out of the fryer so hot and tasty. My Diablo chicken had just a little heat with the flavor of Frank's Buffalo Chicken sauce I think...anyway really good (too much lettuce though). All in all a great lunch. read more

This is my first time here and everyone is cordial, not exceptional service but adequate. The Texas sausage is delicious and I would come back for dinner based on that. My wife ordered the tuna melt which was not good; however, in fairness who orders that in a BBQ joint???? She's from the Midwest so I forgive her! All in all based on breakfast only I rate this at a solid 4. I will go back for dinner to taste the BBQ. Stopped in to try. this BBQ place for lunch. It was a bit before anyone came over to greet me and take my order. Since I wanted to try a couple things I picked a slider special with 2 different sliders. The food came out quickly and the server disappeared. The both sandwiches had sauce already applied. The beef sandwich, a tritip was pretty good but would have been better without the sauce. The pulled pork dish was so smothered with sickly sweet sauce it was inedible. The few bits of pork I did eat were stringy and meh. No asked me how I liked the food. No one seemed to wonder why the pork sandwich was barely touched. If the restaurant reads this, put the sauce on the side. I suspect it might be hiding dried out pork, but it would have been better than what was served. The decor was nice. read more

Looks like you'd expect for a place named Jakes Roadhouse. Roadhouse type look and feel and Roadhouse type food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, mostly. Our server was not as nice however the rest of the staff made up for it. It seems our server was pretty slow and we had to wait to place a dinner order, place a dessert order, to get our check and finally to pay. One of those scenarios when people are seated after you and get served before you. Maybe just an off night. Ordered the Smoked Sausage Plate with Mac & Cheese and Coleslaw. It was very good as was the dinner salad I ordered. Coleslaw was average and went nicely as leftovers. Also ordered was a Cowboy Combo which is 1/2 a smoked chicken and 1/2 rack of BB ribs. Sides were baked potato and veggies. Everything was very flavorful and this monster combo was shared by two. Also ordered a kids Quesadilla with fries. Everyone loved there food and overall it was a good experience. Great original Monrovia area. Tons if shops and eateries in this area. Great for a walk after a meal. Even some historical places nearby. Lots of parking, seemed like average pricing for this type of place. read more

Walked past this place with a buddy while looking for brunch and we both decided to try it out. After coming inside, seeing the colorful decor of the place, and looking over the menu, we decided to stay and eat. For brunch on a Saturday morning, this place was fairly busy. Service was slow, but I will be giving this place the benefit of the doubt since it was busy and the staff was friendly and helpful. We each ordered the breakfast burrito with the spicy Texas meat because it was recommended by our server. They came out pretty quick. After slicing it in half and taking the first bite, the melted cheese just dripped out and there were some gnarly cheese pulls. The potatoes were nice and soft and the Spicy Texas was a type of sausage that was full of flavor (also packed a bit a heat). Dipped it in with some salsa/hot sauce in a bottle that was provided and we both enjoyed our burritos. The burrito itself was a 3.75/5. I wished the tortilla could have been toasted more to bring the texture to the next level. I also wished that the potatoes had been seasoned a bit more. The overall experience, factoring in ambience, service, and food, was a 4/5 and I definitely see myself coming back here. read more

I've been here 3 times and always enjoy their food. Everything has its own flavor. My daughter loves the wings and won't order anything else! BBQ burger to its perfection. had breakfast i got the huevos rancheros very good and tasty but the corn tortillas were slightly soggy and not very good. no refills on the drinks like orange juice and apple juice. food comes out quick and the service was okay. the restaurant overall is great the decoration is very nice and you always have something to look at. i will say that they were servicing every other customer before they served us. we were waiting very long just to ask someone a question or get a cup of water or pay for our food. read more

This restaurant has excellent customer service! The hot water i drank was clean and the food was filling. I really like the decoration around, seeing road signs everywhere. With the title of Roadhouse, I wish the meat served were smoked rather covered in smoke sauce. I had half rack with ribs, and it tasted sweeter than expected. The mac n cheese was obviously pre made, as cheese was very liquidity. The onion rings are really crisp and the cornbread tasted fresh. However, I would rather have red meat from here than Outback Steakhouse. The restroom needs improvement, as faucets are obviously different and paper towel dispenser is diffuse to pull from. Local diner style place in old town Monrovia. The portions are HUGE. I ordered the one lb burger and I bet it was more than that. Took out one of the Pattie's and was still so full. My fiancé couldn't even eat half of her omelette. Flavor was good but on the greasy side. Extremely cheap for the amount of food they give you. We went in while the night market was happening outside and I wish I would have read the reviews before we walked in. Seems like breakfast is the way to go. It was a nice evening so we sat outside while everything was going on outdoors. I gave it 2 stars just for the service since they were the only stars. The place was empty which was surprising since BBQ places are always busy. Prices are about what the average is I guess. About $42 per person. I ordered the bbq cheeseburger and my son got the cheeseburger off the kids menu. I also got some bbq wings as an appetizer. The wings were overcooked then cooked again before being served. They were probably the driest most over cooked wings I've ever had. They were drenched in this watery bbq sauce that I've never had before. I like to think of myself as a bbq connoisseur but this threw me off. I couldn't figure out what style this was. I've never had anything like it. It was so watered down. It's like they had an empty jar of sauce, added water and shook it to make more for the order. We ate 4 out of 10 of them and tossed the rest. The burgers came next and it honestly looked like they intentionally stepped on my son's burger. The top bun was completely shredded and smashed. I wish I would have taken a picture of it. My burger was colossal and visually looked amazing. But then I noticed it was drenched in that watered down sauce. I already knew before I took a bite that this was gonna be the worst and sure enough I was right. It was almost impossible to even pick this thing up. It was like my burger was sitting in bbq soup. My son who is the Cookie Monster of burgers didn't even wanna finish his. I just paid for the meal and we left. I didn't even wanna take the leftovers home. We made it about a block away after when my stomach started to make that gurgling sound which we all know what that means. Sure enough both me and my son were scrambling to get home in time to use the restroom. Now as I sit here on my porcelain throne writing this review, please be aware of the after effects you might feel and stay close to a bathroom. Maybe it was an off day but I personally won't be coming back again. I wish the business well and I hope they improve their food items. Maybe call Gordon Ramsey to help turn things around. read more

Hands down, the breakfast plate I ordered was very tasty. Kudos to the chef! I've been here before and have always had a good experience. This time, I observed two servers who didn't smile or seem friendly. I thought this was odd as I normally develop a friendly rapport with servers when I go out to dine. Maybe I expect too much from people? But then again, it doesn't take much effort to smile and say hello. After all, I'm going to be tipping 20%. Food was good. We were in old town Monrovia and wanted breakfast on Sunday. I guess so did everyone else. Rather than wait at two other places, we walked to Jakes and got seated right away. I wouldn't say it was because Jakes was less popular only that it was a bigger restaurant than the other two places. We were served immediately and food was hot with big portions. I am not a huge pancake fan but the raspberries and pancakes were delicious. It was served with eggs and not so spicy, spicy sausage. My SIL had chili omelet that looked huge. I was sure that my friends would have a great dinner! Besides the free parking lot in the back of the restaurant, the interior of the place is colorful and entertaining! Everyone seemed to enjoy the unusual decor. For example, there's a street sign that reads "Coroner's Office...visitor parking". We arrived before 7pm on a Thursday night and secured a table for 10 people. Service was efficient and accommodating. Because of our large party, an 18 percent tip was added to the bill. The complimentary bucket of peanuts were distracting and addicting. We chatted away while throwing shells on the floor (and at each other). I ordered a half order of Baby Back Ribs which came with a yummy blueberry muffin and two sides. My corn on the cob was fresh; the watermelon wasn't ripe; and the pineapple was great!
