We came in late in the evening and there were very few people there, yet our service was poor. We waited a very long time for water after having to ask for refills. Then our order was incorrect 3 different times. I don't think the waitress listened or well. She was friendly though. The first thing I noticed was the prices have gone up drastically in the last 6 months or so. A fajita salad used to be $13.99, and now is $17.99!!!!! I usually would give this pace at least 4 stars, however my most recent visit was very disappointing. I have visited Jalapeño's in Barkley since it opened and am not sure I will return. My wife and I had a date night here over the weekend and both ordered Margarita's. I ordered a larger one than my wife and was cut off after finishing it. The bartender told me it was policy. We had been there for over an hour and were not driving. She then told my wife, who is 80 pounds lighter than I am, that she was welcome to have a tequila shot and large beer after she finished her Margarita. This made no sense to either of us, nor the other patron at the bar witnessing what had happened. It turns out the patron is a regular here and he informed the bartender that he also thought it didn't make sense to cut me off, as I wasn't hammered, and then offer my wife a beer and a shot?!? After he told her this, she apologized and offered me a beer. I didn't even ask for a beer to begin with, but she felt the need to tell me I couldn't have any more on her own. We decided to pay our bill and leave to another bar that wanted our business. It's very frustrating to look forward to a date night away from the kids, and hope to enjoy a nice time with your wife, but then made to feel embarrassed by being cut off. I have never ben cut off before, and will never come back to Jalapeño's in Barkley to feel that embarrassment again. read more

Always consistent good food, large portions and awesome drinks. Staff is always friendly and there when you need them. Happy hour is awesome as well and really reasonably priced. Salsa is great and fully if chunky veggies given with a huge basket of chips. Try the queso dip, you won't be disappointed. Overall good Mexican food. I love Jalapenos, this location particularly, and dine there at least once a week, sometimes more. Their Chile con Queso is absolutely delicious!! I seriously cannot emphasize that enough! So, so, so good. My husband and I usually get that plus the nachos to share. Another favorite dish of mine is the Pollo Fundido - give it a try, it will not disappoint. Went for lunch today. Ordered a lunch special...hard shell corn taco with ground beef and chicken enchilada....the sides were refried beans and spanish rice. Waited about 15 minutes for my order to arrive. The refried beans were kind of runny with no flavor and the spanish rice was just bland. My chicken enchilada was hard packed with chicken that seemed to be all white meat...like from a can? My taco was probably the highlight of my meal and actually tasted pretty authentic with minimal seasoning and a good beef flavor coming through. This is one of my favorite Mexican places in town. The service and food is always great. The only downside is this location is smaller so peak times cause longer waits. I also find this place pricer than other Mexican restaurants in town but I think this place is the best so it's worth the extra money. read more

Service was good... that's where it stopped. having lived in the New Mexico and Arizona most of my life I was truly disappointed considering I ordered a $12 plate of chicken mole verde (thats chocolate) they got the green part right most flavorless dish ive eaten but only ordered it when I was turned off by the price of their $10 taco plate. Stopped for a late lunch and was seated right away with a smile. So often local Mexican restaurants offer rather bland, not spicy, food. Well, Jalapeño's was different. The salsa was very good with a little kick and there was plenty of it. No need to ask for more, because what they served was more than enough. The chips were also good and salted. Sorry, I like salt on my chips. Got a luncheon special which came quickly and again was not the usual bland stuff. The food was warm, but not hot and the plate it was served on was not "burn your fingers" hot. A nice side serving of sour cream was standard, not the usual $1.00 extra. The restaurant was clean as was the men's restroom. All in all, I enjoyed my lunch and felt it was good food at a reasonable price. The hostess who seated me was very pleasant and provided better service than the wait person who was assigned to my table. The best complement I can pay is to say "I'll be back." read more

The only good thing about this restaurant is the margaritas at happy hour. Their food is expensive and not that great. Today my husband and I ordered tortilla soup. Flavor was ok ish it was super super salty. I ordered a cup for 6.99 and he ordered a bowl for 8.99. Mine had a teeny bit more chicken than his and mine was a cup. There is NOTHING to speak of in this soup but sauce which was a lot like enchilada sauce with about 2 tbs of chicken maybe, about 3 strips of tortilla, and the absolute only difference between the bowl and cup was a little more "sauce" which was really disappointing and expensive for sauce with a little bite of chicken to say the least. From beginning to end, my experience at Jalapeno's was disappointing, to say the least. We were seated quickly but then ignored. No water or chips and salsa. Eventually a waitress made her way over. We noticed right away that the prices were high. Our hopes were equally high, only to be dashed. We ordered and waited. People who arrived after us were receivibg their food. All that free time led us to looking around. We noticed that the very high ceiling fans were literally coated with dust and grime. At some point in time those fans were white but were now gray and black. I will attempt to post the picture I took. The framework for the lighting was also disgusting. I think there was dust from the 80's up there. The food was bland...nothing special. It was hard to have any appetite after the dusty discovery hovering above us. I've been here a few times and I also came here for my 21st birthday. Of course it's "Americanized" Mexican food but that's what most people expect being so far north! The queso dip is amazing, as are the enchiladas. The service is always very friendly and on my birthday they let me wear a sombrero and all sang to me which was very fun (especially because I was drunk!) Don't miss the Big Mama margarita, very strong and delicious! My only criticism is that it's a little overpriced but if I'm craving enchiladas it's worth it! read more

Drinks were good food was standard Mexican food I wish they would do fresh made daily and cooking (hand made tortillas, chips, guacamole, pico, salsas ect) would be easy for them to do and fresh Mexican food is so much better!
