I had a disappointing experience at Jam Cafe (W 4th Ave, Kitsilano location) recently. My teenage sister accidentally leaned over the restaurant's booth on the sidewalk when we were waiting for a table, causing it to slide. Instead of handling the situation kindly, one of the female servers with blond highlights raised her voice at my sister and had a harsh attitude, making us feel unwelcome. There was not a single "Do Not Lean" sign near/on the wooden booth, making it hard for us to know we shouldn't lean. This is frustrating especially when the slope in front the restaurant creates a literal sliding hazard. Overall, it seems that safety issues aren't communicated clearly and kindly. We didn't have a chance to grab the server's name, but hope management addresses these issues with better customer service training. The food was not good and worth the price. read more

We've been wanting to try this place and finally we have! New year, new place! It was a loooong line and took 30 minutes. The coffees came and they were amazing!! The food wait was pretty good. We didn't have to wait too long. We had a lot of options and hungry us couldn't even decide on one thing. We decided on a loooot of sides and 2 mains. Then I finally decided on a drink. It was delicious! Wanted seconds but it was brunch. Oh and the pancake was the best one I've had! No lie! Could have eaten everything myself! My hubby took me there the first time on my birthday, and I have been wanting to try this place for a very long time. We were there on a Friday during lunch hour, and the lineup was already three stores down. I always heard good things about this place, but the only downside would be the no reso/long lineup issue. I went up to the front and asked the host how long the wait would be, and she said around 30 mins. I thought to myself, I'm not in a rush to go anywhere, might as well to wait for a bit to see what the hype was, and I am glad I did. The lineup moved really quickly, and we sat down within 20 minutes. The restaurant is cozy yet spacious, and service was quick and friendly. Unlike other brunch places, they have a wide range of different kind of breakfast items to choose from, and they are not afraid to use grease and sugar. We picked the buttermilk fried chicken and pork belly benny's. And because it was my bday, we also ordered a side order of cinnamon bun pancake as my bday cake. Both Benny's come with English muffin and house hollandaise. The fried chicken looked dry at first, but it tasted surprisingly good. It was moist and tender. The pork belly was juicy and fatty(in a good way). I get it might be a bit turn off for some people, but I mean, that's what make this place unique. When tasted the cinnamon bun pancake, I felt that I fell into a sugar bomb. It was so sweet yet so good! The cream cheese icing was a very nice touch, you can definitely have it as a desert. If the lineup isn't usually so long, I'd want to keep coming back. It's definitely going to be one of my favorite brunch place. I'm so happy I got to try this place. read more

I have been meaning to check out the Jam Cafe for a long time now but I am not a fan waiting in line for 45 mins especially when I am starving. When my friend and I learn about this Kitsilano location, we decided to chance it and went on a Friday morning. The lineup moved quickly, only waited about 15-20 mins. The hostess was pleasant and we got seated quickly. The menu is extensive in a good way. I love good varieties, it was repetitive but each option offers something different. For example, one option is waffle with fried chicken which my friend ended up getting. Let's just say everytime I look up to talk she was looking down smiling and savouring her brunch. I had the country breakfast with over easy eggs done perfectly, sausage patties and hash browns. It was so well done considering how every other breakfast place could make this. The sausage patties were my favourite and I ordered mine with rye toast. Perfect amount of butter! read more

Jam Cafe Kits on West 4th Ave, Vancouver 3/15/2020 last visit (dine in) Later tater bowl w/ pulled pork Having tried both the pulled pork and chicken versions, it comes down to this: do you feel like the more spicy and savoury buffalo chicken, or are you in the mood for something more sweet & savory? I think most will prefer the sweeter, more breakfast like pulled pork, but (depending on mood) I prefer the slightly more intense buffalo chicken. 4.5 stars for the pulled pork version. Daily special: Croque Madame Benny: one piece toasted brioche parmesan bechamel, swiss cheese , ham, bacon, maple dijon w/ 2 poached eggs, hollandaise $16. Wow this was a revelation as to how good a Benny can be; the toasted brioche set the stage but the maple dijon added intensity and complexity to what I usually find to be a slightly mild breakfast favourite. 4.75 stars. Fuzzy minty peach ginger soda: wonderful palette cleanser, spicy like cinnamon. Very refreshing. 4.5 stars. Strawberry Lemonade and cinnamon swirl pancake were both 5 stars as usual. 11/17/2019 Later Tater Bowl w/ buffalo chipotle Chicken. The delightfully crunchy tater tots provide a nice textural contrast to the pulled pork style chicken. My go to had always been their gravy coop from day 1; this may be my new go to dish. Will definitely have to try the pulled pork version next time. 4.75 stars. Fried Chicken Benny Fantastic. The hash browns were spot on this time (previous visit they were underwhelming). 4.75 stars. Strawberry lemonade Perfectly balanced; neither too sweet nor tart, refreshing. 5 stars. Single Cinnamon bun pancake Still the best breakfast pancake we've had anywhere. 5 stars (if you order the triple stack, you only get the cream cheese icing and icing sugar in the top pancake, so we always order a single). A year ago, they didn't measure up to the Beatty Street location. They've now rectified that, and it's as good now, but with a shorter queue (20-30 min wait here vs 45 to 140 min wait @Beatty), food was expedited quickly, and free parking a few blocks away, they actually get a point more (ironically pricier parking than even downtown right in front of the restaurant). Recommended: Later tater bowl, Cinnamon cream cheese swirl pancake (single, not triple). Croque Madam Benny, Chicken & Waffles, 3 pigs / lonely piggy, Gravy coop, Fried Chicken Benny, Eggs Benedict. Avoid: nothing really, but the triple stack pancakes only have toppings on the top pancake, do we always just order the single now. Likewise, the 3 pigs are delicious, but we get way too full for our mains if we order more than a single. Overall 10/10, 5 stars. Jam Cafe in BC (yet to try the Victoria one) and Citizen Cafe in Barcelona are my 2 favourite brunch restaurants in the world; anyone who thinks "they're just breakfast" has yet to experience the joy that comes with elevated breakfast perfection. This is by far one of the best breakfast restaurants I've ever been to!! Highly recommended by a friend as there is always a line, but never that long of a wait. The staff was very welcoming and kind while we were in line. They consistently updated us with our wait time. From what we were told they've been open for about 2yrs, but it feels like they've been open for longer than that based on the decor & ambience. When we finally got seated, we were greeted by almost every staff. The menu has a large variety of options to select from, so you're bound to find something you'll like! I ordered the Fried Chicken Eggs Benny, and it was the largest eggs benny I've ever had. This restaurant is known for their large portions!! They don't disappoint!! I can't believe I haven't heard of this place until now! I had been in search of a cute little breakfast place around the Downtown area, and I think I found it! I visited with a couple of my friends and naturally, we all got benny's! Here is a list of what we ordered: Smoked Salmon Benny (with avocado) Fried chicken Benny Smashed Avocado Benny The Cracker Jack French Toast Everything absolutely fresh as can be, staff are amazing and caring (they even accommodated the timing of our food order even though they were incredibly busy!), overall vibe is so cozy and cute. The pricing is a little higher and I am a broke university student, but I think it's totally worth it. Highly recommend their benny's, they really put a lot of love and care into making each plate. I could go on and on about how yummy their brunch is, but it would be better if you visited them and experienced it for yourself. A downside is that there aren't many vegan options, but then again, in the heart of Kitsilano, there are many exclusively vegan places, so if you're looking for a more vegan friendly restaurant, you will find plenty (Aphrodite's is a personal favourite of mine, although I haven't visited in almost 2 years). Something to keep in mind: they get busy really fast. The best time to go, like many other yelpers have stated, is during the weekdays. The weekends can range from a 20-60min wait. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this joint. I have heard many people talk about it and witnessed long line-ups while passing by both he Kits and Gastown location. Usually opting for Chambar as a sensible choice. The service was nice and friendly and I went at a time when it was not too busy. The food was pretty good. I liked my salmon benny as the flavours were unique and the hollandaise sauce was not too rich. There was a nice, tangy, citrusy balance to the sauce that cut into the richness of most hollandaise sauce. I would definitely recommend this place. Finally a proper review of Jam on 4th! Now that I've been to both Jam Cafes, I can compare and review both. Shorter, faster lineup on 4th vs. Beatty; I don't know why it's a shorter line, but the higher seating capacity of this location is the reason why it moves faster (IMHO). Great decor and atmosphere, more spacious than DT and friendlier staff in general (probably because of the area). The extra space is greatly appreciated. The decor is similar to DT's location, so nicely familiar. Awesome food and quickly served. In and out in under 70 minutes including a modest, early lineup at 9:50am on a Saturday. Highly recommend either location, but prefer and would rank higher this location over the Beatty. read more

I would wake up early and line up before 8am just for Jam. Breakfast Yumminess is what I would describe their food. Service was quick and clean. Post covid has definitely brought their service up to the next level. Plastic dividers separate the tables and servers wears masks. Place & Interiors: this has the same vibe and flair as the branch on Beatty but it is much more spacious and airy. There are more tables and bar space looks bigger too. Loved the amount of light coming in from the sliding doors. Street parking is available along W 4th. Food and Service: Food and service are consistent with the other branch as well. Hubby and I are creatures of habit so we ordered what we would typically order at Jam Cafe -- Salmon Benny for me and Chicken & Waffles for him. Loved my Salmon Bennies and I was able to satisfy my eggs ben craving -- love it with the house green sauce. The hubby enjoyed his Chicken and Waffles too with their syrup. What a busy joint, even during rainy weather! There was a relatively lengthy line outside, but it was moving quickly. We were seated by the fire, which had a nice ambience. We ordered a couple of veggie bowls, and some French toast with Nutella. Everything tasted great. The veggie bowls had a savory, warm, comforting feeling on this rainy day, while the the French toast was deliciously sweet. The only piece missing was the time it took us to get our food, which could have been because the place was so busy and we had some small modifications. Jam brings it delicious brunch brand to sunny Kitsilano. It is spacious and rather comfortable compared to its Beatty St spot. Walls are adorned with memorabilia - Canadiana flavor. Food: Eggs Benedict with pork belly - This was my favorite at the Beatty location. Today was even better. The yolk was cooked to my request - soft like golden goodness. Pork was tender. Together with the balsamic bite from the onion jam, each mouthful led to the next and to the next. All gone in No Time. We also enjoyed the Brioche French toast with caramelized apple as well as the Chicken and waffles. They were fine but the Bene reigned supreme. Service: Friendly and super attentive. Water glass and coffee were never less than half full. Overall: Really memorable experience. I can hardly wait for my next visit. Note: Just opened Nov 25, 2018. Jam Cafe is delicious. The staff are super friendly and the restaurant has a cozy feel. We went to Vancouver for two nights and at breakfast at Jam Cafe both mornings because it was fantastic. My husband got the fried chicken eggs Benny both mornings. I tried the avocado eggs Benny and the special eggs Benny that they were offering. Both were good, but the special with the pork belly was incredible. It was one of the tastiest things I've ever had. Coffee was decent and prices were good. I took my brother-in-law and sister here during the weekend and he endured a 45 min wait in the rain with a hangover and he said it was the best brunch he's ever had. While I generally like brunch, I never actually eat it unless someone wants to go. The long line ups aren't exactly encouraging either. But since my partner wanted eggs benedicts, we ate at Jam Cafe (my very first time!). We waited half an hour before we were seated at a table, separated by plexiglass dividers. We ordered the pork belly benny and the blackstone benny. The pork belly had less fat that what we expected--on one hand meant more meat, but on the other hand, it was quite dry. But the blackstone benny was sooo good. Their sugar cured bacon was simply amazing--thick, crispy and perfectly sweetened. Highly recommend trying the latter! read more

Craved jam the first week it reopened for dine in service and lined up for brunch. It was weird before that Jam required you to physically lineup outside their restaurant rather than using an app or phone system to lineup, but it's weirder than ever with social distancing. Perhaps the owners wants to draw in business with the hype generated from a restaurant that perpetually has a lineup outside but it seems a bit irresponsible and inconvenient. Not to mention, if you are seated by the window like I was it's weird having people stare and salivate at your table as you order a ridiculous amount of brunch food for two people. The food and service were both top notch. We ordered the Charlie Bowl, full order of the Pulled Pork Pancakes, and Chicken French Toast. The Charlie bowl honestly isn't much to look at but the flavours and textures are so good making it amazing comfort food. I liked the pickled cabbage and glaze they use on the chicken french toast although I found the toast itself to be a bit rubbery. I wasn't super hungry but ordered the Pulled Pork Pancakes to try as it's been a while since I ate out and figured I could pack them to go. Somehow these were still amazing two days later heated up in the microwave. If that isn't a testament to how good the taste is I don't know what is. All in all it's obvious why Jam is such a popular brunch spot. Reasonable prices with great food and service. Just wish they would incorporate a more modern lineup system. There's no need to crowd an already narrow sidewalk regardless of social distancing guidelines. read more

Oh Jam. You are my fav jam. There is no place like you. Always delicious, always friendly. I've been to the downtown Vancouver location a few times and there's always a well-deserved line. People love it for good reason. I now go to the Kitsilano location every week. The lineup doesn't even really phase. One minute you're outside, the next thing you're in a warm, welcoming place with cheery servers. My go-to is the fried chicken eggs Benny soft with their world famous bacon on the side and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. It's all excellent! Never fails!! Their bowls are large and filling to and their pancakes are so sweet and delightful. I love coming to Jam Cafe!!!! read more

Just looking at the number of people waiting in line and the number of mouth watering choices on the menu, we knew we were going to brave the cold and wait. And we weren't disappointed.....Cozy and warm inside, we sat right next to the fireplace under the big moose head mounted on the wall. We happened to get Mike the owner as our waiter. He recommended the cinnamon bun pancakes and the French toast with Cajun chicken. SO much food! We were full just looking at it but managed to eat most of the spicy chicken and soft French toast.
