    Fried chicken, eggs and waffles
    Damien M.

Friday after wifey had an apt we decided to head here for brunch. Small lineup outside and we only had to wait maybe 5-10minutes before we were seated at bar seating. After perusing the menu we ordered. Wifey wanted the buffalo blue Benedict but asked if she could have French toast instead of on English muffin. The server taking the order said yes but it would be an additional cost which was fine. We thought that was it but i guess this combo didn't sit well with her? She started to comment that the French toast and wasn't sure was good like this as if the egg was put on top it might get soggy, then she switched to she wasn't sure the chef would put it on the French toast or on the side.. eventually talking to herself saying never mind and pretty much dismissing as in.. ok your choice. Which should have been the stance in the first place. All that commentary was unnecessary. I ordered the fried egg, chicken and waffles. Also a side of corn bread. For our drinks we just got coffee which was decent. Our food arrived and the plating was beautiful. The fried chicken in my order was super crispy although bready but this is what was giving it the super crunch. Kinda hard to cut even though i had the serated knife. The Belgian waffle super soft and fluffy all throughout, no crisp on the outside. So when trying to cut through the chicken down to the waffle I was more tearing it than cutting. That aside, with the country gravy it was very tasty. On the heavier side with the eggs on top and as I get older I find it can't eat as much heavier items. I was only able to finish half of my plate. But it was very good! I tried some pieces of wifeys french toast and her chicken with blue cheese. The combo of bluecheese with the chicken was actually very nice. Her French toast was just ok imo. I didn't find it tasted any egginess so I don't think there was enough of a soak. The corn bread was underwhelming imo, felt like there wasn't alot of corn meal used as i didn't really taste it was corn bread. There were same pieces of corn inside which was different but inherently was missing the classic corn bread flavor. Again just my opinion. Over all a very nice brunch. Quality of the ingredients very good and flavors very good. Execution imo could be a little better and perhaps less judgment from server on the order Adjustment would have been nice. Still giving 4 stars as the ambiance and over all feeling was very positive.

Pretty darn great!!! I loved the staff, the restaurant and the food!!! It was so yummy! No long waits! It was pretty cute from the inside. Staff was super friendly! Omg. I don't know where to start or end to this review but it's a MUST GO when you visit or live in Canada!!! Tons of street parking but could be pretty full since this is a famous restaurant. But I wouldn't mind the walk just for the end results! It's worth it! And try to get there early, so the like wouldn't be that long, but then again, WORTH IT! lol. Had Benedict's with kale and mushroom and added bacon!

I understand all the rage. What a wonderful breakfast spot. We arrived at 0930 and waited maybe 5-7 minutes. Eggs benes, I changed up the first one on the order and put ham instead of bacon. It was definitely one of the top three benes I've had in my life! (I've had many benes in my life!) Friend had the cinn. pancakes (they are plate size BTW) which looked fantastic. Wife had a tradition breakfast eggs, bacon, hashbrown. Definitely well worth a wait! Excellent food, highly recommend. Likely will go back again on this trip.

Busy place! Came on a Tuesday morning- little bit of a wait- behind the nylon rope on the sidewalk. Staff was informative , gave updates and were visibly trying to help and facilitate seating for patrons. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside with the traffic. Service was quick and prompt- Orange juice was fresh and pulpy, tried my kids waffles and they were ok- he didnt eat much of them. Ordered plain jane pancake- was nice and fluffly w tasty real canadian maple syrup Had the chicken thigh benedict- in all honesty i wasnt expecting much- it was eggscellent! Egg was a nice benedict style made to order- and the chicken thigh meat was juicy and savory! Egg yolk flowed well . Apologize for the half eaten picture- i figure it's better than no picture. This place has a continuous line build up. Def seems like a goto place for locals and tourists. Eat breakfast here!

Stopped for breakfast on a Saturday. We were there shortly after open so there were still a few free tables left. We remembered from past visits the potions were quite generous so we decided to order one regular dish and one smaller one: - Fried Chicken, Eggs and Waffles - OK. Waffles were soggy and the fried chicken was average. It's hard to make eggs special but the gravy was pretty good. Portion size is a lot smaller than expected. - French Toast Sticks - OK. Average taste, but a bit too dry. Service was OK. More focused on efficiency than anything else. Overall, a bit underwhelming. This place prided itself on decent big breakfasts, and that's why it became so popular. But now that portions seem smaller, there is no value proposition. Just ends us being thoroughly average. Of course, when we left, we saw the large lines. I'm not so sure I would return.

Very busy when we arrived as it is a popular local chain. We were quickly seated outside and the wait staff were very friendly. The pancake was nice and fluffy, the chicken skillet, slightly salty with the seasoning. Overall good flavours but I did find 2 hairs.

Mushroom ricotta benedict and Ham benedict

Ok only heard about this place for months now! Heard if we went to get french toast and eggs benedict. We were in for savory today for a hangover cure. The inside is so cozy and cabin feeling and the perfect breakfast lodge vibe. Bar service was so quick and the food all is to die for with such a huge selection to choose from.

A brunch staple in Vancouver, there's almost always a wait but the line moves pretty fast so as long as it wasn't raining too hard i'll wait in line. Personally live the savory bowls (honorary mention: tater tot bowl, charlie bowl) but their portions are MASSIVE and they last me at least one more meal after. My go to is the green eggs and ham the eggs mixed with pesto was amazing on their bread and hash brown.

It has been a minute since I went to Jam Cafe. Went there on a rainy Saturday morning at 11:00am and stood in line for 1hr 20min... but it was all worth it! I had friends visiting from Toronto who wanted to try Vancouver brunch, so I had to take them to Jam! I wasn't in the mood to eat eggs so decided to go for their lunch menu, it was my first time trying their lunch items. I got their flying buffalo sandwich with tater tots. It was sooo good!!! The sandwich was covered in buffalo sauce which I LOVED, the chicken was so tender and juicy. The tots were crispy and fresh.. I was very happy to try this out. My friend got their later tater bowl which was really good too but towards the end the tater tots got a bit mushy. It was very hard for her to finish it because of their huge portions! The Gravy Hoops were also really nice, came with a mushroom sauce, eggs benny, and fried chicken. Lastly, we got their Cracker Jack brioche french toast for the table. It was EXACTLY what we needed to complete the meal!! The nutella in there was so decadent and went very well with the whipped cream. The bowl of fruits were perfect too because one of our friends was vegan. Got giving the full 5-star for this one because I thought their customer service had dropped a bit... it took them 30mins to take our order after we sat. Moreover, when the food came we had no cutlery or glasses of water. The staff weren't super friendly and seemed like they just wanted to get done with it. I know weekends are a busy day for Jam so I get it. Would I go back? 100%!

Arrive early if you don't have much time! I arrived 8:05 and had to wait in line for about 20min as this place is very demanded. The blackstone was pretty good. The sauce on top of those pouched eggs was delicious and everything was served quickly. The portions are generous and I ended full to start my vacation with all the energy. The servers are very nice and the place is nice although a little small, but that was not a problem at all. I will be back!

After all the hype I've seen, along with the long queues everytime I passed by, I had higher expectations. While the wait in queue was reasonable, and service was good, I was rather disappointed with the fried chicken waffle. The chicken was on the dry side even after dipping in the gravy, to the point where small.pieces fall off when I cut it. The bite is on the chewy side. It was not crispy like a freshly fried chicken. The waffle was a bigger disappointment. At best, it was like waffles at a Best Western 3 star motel where you make it yourself. It was chewy and not very warm. The syrup had little taste as was.the gravy for the fried chicken. My partner's eggs Benny was good but still not outstanding.

We found street parking a couple doors down from Jam Cafe and it was free until 9AM. Coming that early was good as there was only a few tables or bar seats occupied. We got seated right after we walked in. Decor was rustic and cool. The menu was quite extensive. We heard the serving sizes were very generous so we ended up splitting some plates. The blueberry pancakes came as three gigantic circles and easily fed two. We wished they provided more of the blueberry compote and lemon curd to help moisten up the pancakes. The French toasts were very thick and quite filling. The side of bacon was a ripoff as we only got 2 slices for $9CAD. The bacon wasn't anything special. The old town breakfast came with scrambled eggs, chorizo, crispy hash browns and toast. A standard breakfast plate. Service was good overall.

The food was great! Definitely shareable plates if you typically don't eat a lot in one sitting. The service was quick given busy Sunday morning.

I was meeting a friend here yesterday who's visiting from California, and when deciding on a meeting place, we realized a bunch of the Gastown coffee roaster places were closed on Sunday, so I mentioned Breka , knowing it was opened 24/7. (LOVE this!). Plus, this site is close to Waterfront Station, and my friend had a busy day planned, taking the Seabus to N.Van and doing a lot of sightseeing. So this Breka was perfect. I was there early at 10 am-ish, and from the outset, I was impressed: exposed brick wall, long counter and display case, fully stocked with the most beautiful pastries and tarts and cakes, and lovely looking sandwiches, too....Just lovely. I ordered a tea from the guy taking the orders. At the check-out, the woman working the cashier was the most unfriendly, aloof person I have ever encountered at a Breka. She was downright dour. Never looked up, never smiled, said I owed X for the tea I ordered, gave me a receipt and said I was "number 3", no "thank you" (despite my saying thanks!), nothing. She looked really unhappy and bothered to be there. (I sat at a nearby table, waiting for my number to be called. I saw her interactions with all the people behind me - and there were quite a few, as it got suddenly busy in the cafe. She was cold and unfriendly to everyone in line as she rang them all up. These are mostly tourists! Why have a dour, borderline-hostile woman at the check-out counter of a busy cafe in a touristy part of our city? I just don't get it). Anyhow, I waited 10 minutes to hear my number called, but I never heard it. I walked up to the take-out area and there was my tea, on a receipt that said "number 3". Did they call out my number? I honestly don't know. I was seated at a table a few feet from the area and listening for my number and I didn't hear it called. I was not impressed with this set-up. Not at all. My friend arrived and got a chocolate concoction which looked amazing, and he loved it, so there's that. I still love Brekas but I probably won't return to this site. Between the cold experience at the cash and the prolonged waiting for my order (a cup of tea!), and not being sure if my order number was ever called, it just all left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

The pastries and sandwiches were not only beautifully presented, but also creative and well-executed--nothing felt like filler. You can tell there was real thought put into the menu. The space itself is elegant and charming, making it perfect for a pre-spring outing, a catch-up with friends, or a low-key celebration. Would I come back? Absolutely--especially for a themed menu like this.

Service - 9/10. Everyone we interacted was very kind and helpful. We especially enjoyed our time with the bartender who was attentive to our needs. Smoked salmon bagel -- 9/10. This was really good and fulfilling. The smoked salmon tasted fresh. Avocado toast -- 9/10. Solid avocado toast which paired nicely with the salad and poached egg. I ordered some bacon on the side for some additional protein Berry french toast -- 4/10. I found this to be dry and lacking in flavor. I wouldn't recommend this. Wings -- 6.5/10. The wings were just ok to me. I personally prefer when my wings are already separated. Flavor was good for the first bite, but got tiring after French onion soup -- 5/10. This was my first time trying french onion soup, so I could honestly just not like the dish, but I thought it tasted awful. At the end we just had chunks of cheese Chocolate cake -- 8/10. Super rich and decadent. A great dessert option if you're looking for something to end the meal!

But first, the food - I ordered scrambled eggs, chicken apple sausage and paid an extra $1 for truffled lemon potatoes. The verdict? 4 out of 5. I'd ordered the eggs "very soft" and they verged on medium-firm. They still tasted good. I'll gladly pay extra for the truffled potatoes next time. My husband ordered the salmon avocado benny. While he loved the tomato soup he chose on the side, he was less enamoured by the benny itself. I had a taste and was underwhelmed by a forkful of overripe avocado and slightly fishy-tasting salmon. We finished with an order of beignets which despite being freshly-fried, were bland; although the accompanying strawberry sauce was deliciously tangy-sweet. Onto the service. This place spins like a top, and I mean that in a good way. Although we came at a peak time, all front of the house staff we encountered -- from the hostess to our bubbly server, to the smooth manager -- struck a perfect balance of being in flow, working flawlessly together, and maintaining light conversation with us. Exemplary. 5 stars out of 5.

We were having gorgeous weather in Vancouver so we decided to eat on the covered patio. The place is pretty cozy, but was only moderately busy when we went. They have a pretty good menu with lots a Benedict's and a build your own breakfast option that seemed pretty nice. I took the recommendation from our server and got the bacon benny. It did not disappoint. I think I have recently discovered that I love poached eggs and these were perfect. The yolk was nice and runny and the white was firm but not hard. I like to cut in to my egg and have it run down and get messy on the plate. The hollandaise was excellent. So many breakfast places will serve it broken, but not here. It had the perfect amount of lemon, butter ratio for my taste and I really enjoyed it. The bacon was good, not to salty, and the english muffin was, well, an English muffin from a package that they toasted and out on the plate. I did splurge and paid the extra dollar for the truffle potatoes and they were very good. I love truffle oil on potatoes so I am a sucker for it whenever its on a menu. You just cant mess it up. Fried potatoes, truffle oil, and a lemon squeeze to bring it all together. My wife got the brunch burger and she loved it. It was a messy breakfast burger that a lot of places have but this one was done right. A poached oozy egg, on a burger patty with american cheese, the best burger cheese in my opinion, bacon, hollandaise and arugula on a brioche bun! It came with tater tots and they were nice and crispy just like she likes them. Well, why didn't I give it five stars you may be asking? Great question. Here it is, each plate came with a side that was just awful. Mine had some "fresh" fruit that nearly made me laugh. It consisted of the saddest, limpest piece of watermelon I have ever seen this side of a trash can. I also had an old crusty orange wedge and a single grape. My wife got a slimy side salad that I think was holding on for dear life. Both, we deemed inedible and moved on immediately. I think there is a rule, or at least there should be one, in restaurants that if you wouldn't eat it then don't serve it. There might be another one that says if you eat rotten food maybe get a different job and see rule one. Overall, we liked the place and would go back. We would just avoid the salads and fresh fruit and stick to the food they cook.
