Jam 'n Honey is a popular local breakfast joint in Lincoln Park. It is often quite busy, especially on the weekends. I have tried numerous items on the menu, from the French Toast, to the Lump Crab Benedict, to the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. The food there is good but I've found it to be quite pricy compared to the quality of food. I always leave satisfied, but I end up spending $20-$25 for a coffee and food all things in. While that is pretty common in Lincoln Park for a sit down place, I have found that there are other places reasonably nearby that are much more enjoyable that cost the same amount. read more

This place is a joke and here is 5 reasons why: 1) CASH ONLY and they do not post this anywhere on the menu or door. Do not worry, you can always hit the ATM across the street and pay the $3 service fee + your own bank fee. When they first opened they stated "we are working on our credit card machine" guess the machine is still out of order. 2) Waitress did not bother to provide the exact change when given $40.00 for a $24.81 bill. She did not provide the coins and only gave back large bills. We let her keep the 19 cents as a tip. 3) BF ordered the breakfast sandwich, but they forgot to add a simple and tasty ingredient called bacon and cheese which is supposed to come on it. 4) My eggs Benedict came out COLD and we had to send it back along with my bf's sandwich. A confused Lincoln Park breakfast. One sign says "BYOB", another reminds "No Outside Food or Drink". An "open" kitchen is enclosed in glass and you wonder who wants to watch someone fry an egg? Two eponymous jellies on every table but where is the honey? Is it in the butter accompanying the chicken and waffl...stop the bus! Are those chicken STRIPS? What was once a decidedly adult dish has been mutated by kid-friendly frankenfood! Who are you catering to? The throngs in strollers or the throngs pushing them? Leftovers are boxed in pagoda-embossed Styrofoam? What kind of place is this? Don't look to the class of 1986 hostess. With crossed arms she's busy chewing gum with a vacant stare. So with the one daring item on a boring menu demystified you can play it safe, or so you think, with an omelette. For $9.50 you can build your own (pick 3) from a generous list of ingredients. The kitchen cannot be held responsible if your picks solidify your candidacy for Worst Cooks in America, but my choices should have been whisked, folded, incorporated, add-your-own-gastronomic-verb-here('d) because the result was spinach and feta between folded over egg whites. In the end you dig out what you wanted in. Not all was lost because the house potatoes that accompanied the omelette of lies were delicious. Chunks of nicely browned potato with bits of bright red pepper and caramelized onions are a welcome improvement to the normally passable half-cooked hash browns of elsewhere. Though you will forgo the house potatoes focus on the breakfast chilaquiles ($9.00). Really good and a portion that can easily feed two. Though Jam 'n Honey may lack focus, with Toast as the only neighborhood competition Lincoln Parkers should have no trouble making the right breakfast decision. read more

This is the worst breakfast I've had in Chicago. Seriously why would you come here when there are so many amazing breakfast places in the city! I am kicking myself for wasting our Saturday breakfast here. We had French toast, which was terrible. Mushy and just not good. Cold syrup. We had breakfast meat (sausage and bacon) which was just meh. Cash only so that's a pain. They gave our kids free pancakes when we sat down which was nice (and the only reason I gave two stars instead of one) but I'd rather pay for good food than receive free bad food. The Oatmeal Pancakes and potatoes were great. But the breakfast sandwich that we ordered with over easy eggs came with over hard eggs and the bottom slice of bread was soggy. I went to Jam N Honey this past Saturday and was NOT impressed. First, the sign is just way to big - the sign is literally as big as the small space inside (maybe thats just me being picky) After waiting outside for 25 minutes we were finally seated. I ordered a breakfast burrito and the GF had over easy eggs. The burrito was not good. The tortilla was hard, eggs were runny and it made me sick after eating it. The over easy eggs came and had a small shell in them! Most people like the idea of Nutella on the tables - but has anyone thought about how many people stick their toast, forks, fingers, etc into the bottle? I dont like spreading nutella on my toast that has peoples saliva on it. I have been going to breakfast places for years and never thought that I would find a place that I will never return to. Chicago has thousands of restaurants and I would NOT recommend wasting your time with Jam N Honey - it is nothing special and I expect the hype to die down after a few weeks. read more

Marmalade AND a huge jar of Nutella on the table?! I'm sold!! The coffee's pretty good and smooth, as well. The skillet potatoes given as a side are excellent! The veggie breakfast burrito was a bit watery, but over all pretty tasty. The boyfriend said the regular breakfast burrito is pretty good. Jam 'n Honey offers typical breakfast and lunch fare, with a few surprises on the menu, such as: Chicken and Waffles, homemade tomato jam, crab Benedict and quite a few Nutella creations. I've got to say, I was a little disappointed in Jam 'n Honey and pretty surprised that it's up for a 2012 Eat Out award. I admit, I probably didn't make the best choice off the menu - I ordered an omelette that I added my own 3 ingredients to. The eggs were overcooked in my opinion, and overall, the omelette was just tasteless. You would think that adding sausage to the omelette would add some pizazz. I will say the potatoes are tasty and unique with the peppers mixed in, but honestly, the best part of my meal was the white toast. Weird, right? But it was just really good toast! Very poor delivery experience. Food was more than 40 minutes later and completely cold when it arrived. Also, I ordered a $3 coffee which was not included, and the toast was omitted from both orders. Ordered through Grubhub, who contacted the restaurant; they refused to give any sort of refund. I will not order from them again, nor will I ever visit the restaurant. I like this place...Its clean, the staff is suuuper nice and the food is definitely good. The chorizo omelet is awesome, the traditional eggs benedict is boss (and I'm preeeetttyy picky). It is cash only but there is an atm literally 20 ft across the street. Came for dinner with Gilt coupon. The food was fine. Nothing amazing, but edible. But what really bothered me were the scumbag tactics used to try and recoup costs. They charged sales tax on the full dinner amount even beyond the price of the coupon. First, this is against the Gilt terms. Second, none of that money is going to the government. It's Jam n Honey trying to squeeze a little more out of customers in a way they hope no one will notice. I won't be returning, which is a shame as I live right around the corner. Note to the management: in the future, price "discounts" at an appropriate amount and don't try and screw customers to recoup an extra $5. read more

The French toast is good... and I was very excited about the duck bacon, also good. But they have some of the worst pancakes I have ever tasted. Dry and thick. Nothing helped them. They were starving for moisture and so was I after not being able to eat them. They should just use aunt jemima mix until they get a better recipe. I came in for brunch and to catch up with an old friend. The one thing this place has going for it is good food. The service, however, was terrible (save the hostess who was quite friendly). Our server probably said less than a dozen words to us the entire time yet kept staring as he walked past. After being there for 1 hour, he came up to us and said, "We need to ask you to leave, so we can give your table away to people waiting." First problem: there were plenty of open tables throughout the restaurant. Second problem: the card on the table (also rude) says to limit time to an hour and a half. It had been only one hour. I don't know what that Mike S. guy is talking about but he must have been confused with State. Yes the wait is a little bit longer than McGee's right now but the food is way better and it doesn't smell like stale beer. Any new place in Lincoln Park is going to be more crowded than usual the first few weeks so if your willing to wait 30 minutes to be seated you'll have an amazing meal in return. The owners have successfully operated two other restaurants, and their experience shows in the food they serve. I ordered the banana french toast, and my friends ordered the chorizo potato skillet. Everything was delicious, and came out in 15-20 minutes. Overall, great place to go if your looking for better and cheaper food than State, and a breakfast place atmosphere versus bar than McGee's. I am not denying the greatness of McGee's Sunday buffet, I have frequented many times and the endless mimosas are the bomb. I'm just saying that Jam 'n Honey is a good place to go if your looking for a change of pace or your too hungover to deal with football fans in the morning. Went on a beautiful Monday morning. I never get a weekday off, so I wanted something really special. The hubs and I got a short stack to share. It was absolutely delicious. Yes, it was just 2 pancakes, but they were very well cooked, simple, not too thick, and anything covered in Nutella is amazing. I ordered the chorizo hash. It was a bit spicy, but I like heat. But it was too salty. The hubs ordered the Italian Benedict. A poached egg, which was perfectly cooked, even though I hate yolk, spinach over a cheesy, bacony risotto cake. That was interesting, but I thought it was a bit slimy. The waitress suggested to get the tomato jam on the side, which he did, but it was good. Interesting flavor. I enjoyed my toast and the strawberry jam with huge chunks of strawberry throughout. That was delicious. The service was nice. The waitress was very helpful. As a glutard, I very rarely get to have a sweet breakfast, but here I was able to have their gluten free waffle which was AMAZING. It looked exactly like my friend's non gluten free version and it was so fluffy and delicious. It came with their homemade honey vanilla butter and I asked for added strawberries, then I also doused it in Nutella from the giant jar they have on the table, man I have forgotten how much I love Nutella! Short wait/seats you fast, greets table with pancake for kids (prior to ordering) which is genius for keeping everyone happy, and in great location with outdoor seating. I don't carry cash, so after a so-so breakfast now I need to have my husband run to the Chase two blocks away, just so the owners can avoid taxes.....yuck.......The food is OK, service is OK. First, they put us back in the dish prep area where we were looking at waitresses wrap silverware and at their fridge section and coffee section. I mean, I'd rather wait for a table than sit in the kitchen. Then, my omelette arrived with cheese which I didn't order. Okay, they'll fix it. When it came back, the broccoli on the inside was cold.
