it was my first time yesterday at JC Studio and I couldn't be happier with my haircut or my experience. I've been coming here for the past two years for haircuts and color. For color, James is a master - he fixed my streaks that my previous colorist did, and helped me work in my natural color so I don't have to get it done as much. I love James Corbet Salon and Spa. James is the best colorist and I trust my hair to him every 6 weeks or so with great confidence. Without fail, each time I leave the salon, strangers will remark on how great the color is. And when it comes to cut, Jay, is the best. He understand my hair and is a pleasure to deal with as well. James and his staff make it a very enjoyable, relaxing place to get color and cut. It's like Cheers for hair! Everybody knows your name the salon dog Diego is the cutest. I can't imagine anyone ever having a bad thing to say about this place. James recently opened up a Spa and that place is also fabulous. Great staff, calming atmosphere, great products that don't hurt your skin, and again none of the drama and the crowds at the uptown type places. My facial was great.............no red marks, no breakouts, no puffy skin and the organic products smell nice as well. I first tried James Corbett almost 2 years ago after purchasing a daily candy deal for a blow out. Jefferson, the stylist, was amazing and I have been going to the salon regularly ever since.The staff is friendly and accommodating and the salon is very nice with a welcoming atmosphere. I continue to go to Jefferson for all of my blow outs and he also does a great job with styling for weddings and other special occasions. I highly recommend him and James Corbett! read more

It's a joy seeing Tina every 4 weeks. She has been coloring my hair every month for the past 18 years. James has been my go to colorist for years now. I saw a friend's hair that was amazing and she sent me to him. Honestly, every time I go somewhere else to "save money," I end up heading back to James to get back on track with his exquisite taste, professionalism and the relationship we have built over time. I also know I can rely on his stylists for a nice haircut or blowout to complement the beautiful color. The ambiance of his "new" studio is lovely, too. I have been to hair salons throughout the city. Sho cuts my hair at the James Corbett Salon. This is the only place where my hair looks lovely immediately after a cut, but even better days and weeks later. I have never been able to learn how to blow dry or fuss with my hair - but I have no need to. Sho cuts to your hair. He takes enormous time getting every hair right, and this means that the cut lasts. He understands that home hair care is not as perfect as salon care - and he cuts with that understanding. A relaxing well designed zen of a salon complete with a back garden superb for processing and a color bar where can plug in, connect to wifi and comfortably spread out and get through those emails. Now on to my color. I was a walk in looking for a salon that used Olaplex to achieve bright blonde color. They do. Great. Thats when Tina came into my life and took my color, average at best, never got a single compliment, blended with my skin and eye color for a drab overall, mehh, look. She listened to my every stress; condition to how I wear my hair and went to work with full reign to translate. When I looked up at the end, I teared up. I was a bright blonde with beautiful highlights both painted and foiled. My hair looks amazing wet and pulled back in a pony its so damn good. When I do it, men. I get compliments all the time, I look way younger and most certainly, hipper. I haven't liked my hair color in years and I have paid more and less; this is a fantastic find in the city full of options. read more

This place is a HIDDEN GEM (literally, since you would never be able to find it unless you were looking for it). I went there the evening before my bridal shower -- I live upstate, so there was no way to get gussied up the morning of. Needless to say, my visit began with the most wonderful pedicure ever!! Nadia made the whole experience SUPER relaxing...and she's super nice, so we had a lovely little chat too!! Despite the fact that we were running very behind schedule, Danielle was patiently waiting for me to be ready for step 2: hair. Despite the fact that it was getting later & later, I never felt rushed. Danielle even pinned my hair up so that I could take it down in the morning. The next day, my hair looked like perfection (even AFTER sleeping on it AND showering). I highly recommend this place and am SO glad that I had a package to try it out. My trip to the James Corbett Studio was a fantastic, enjoyable and much appreciated corrective color experience. After I had a terrible color "accident" at an unnamed salon that left me with 3 colors of HORIZONTAL STRIPS around my head and totally fried hair, I read other reviews on many corrective colorists and chose James. He let me have the next available appointment, and instantly calmed me down by explaining exactly how he would fix the damage. I knew was capable, having seen his previous salon credentials and some articles in NYC publications about his new venture, but what James was able to do for my hair was beyond amazing. In fact, James should be your top choice for any color treatments, corrective or primary, because he is a scientific genius and a remarkable ARTIST with the color. He was the most understanding, flexible and accommodating salon professional I've ever met: he actually listened to what I wanted and what I was comfortable with. He explained everything each of the corrective color solutions would do, at the molecular level and then he and his staff comforted and pampered me the entire time I was there, right down to silk robes to wear. The color James designed for my poor damaged hair turned out to be the most complimentary, richest color I've ever had, even after it had been FRIED only days before. I also had one of Jame's stylists trim my hair and she ended up redesigning the look into one of my favorite hair cuts ever - including a few $500+ cuts. Everyone in the salon was so professional, yet warm - I felt like I was relaxing with friends while I was there. James also gave me some great tips on crazy off-beat organic Brittish products that would reverse the damage. He's really fabulous at what he does, and the rest of the staff is accomplished and delightful. Please let James do your color before someone else RUINS it. You can't even begin to imagine what he can do with your hair. read more

Best hair color experience I've ever had. Hands down. I made an appointment with Tina on a whim after reading lots of great reviews of the salon. There was a cancellation so I got in pretty quickly. She spent a lot of time in the beginning of the appointment talking to me about what I wanted, what I liked/didn't like and overall the state of my hair & color. She explained why I hated the color and what breakage I had and how to fix both. She spent a lot of time with me and I definitely felt like she genuinely cared about "fixing" my hair and getting it to what I wanted. The results were excellent. I LOVED the way my hair looked when I left the salon. She recommended a couple great products that I have since been using and love. I will definitely be back. The ambiance and vibe in the salon was great too - busy but somehow laidback/relaxed - I didnt feel stressed by the buzz of everyone. Really nice outdoor area too. Always offered a beverage or magazine. Everyone was friendly. Even when I was passed around to different people for the wash and blowdry I still felt very cared for. It was definitely on par or a little higher than what I'm used to paying - but what I got for the money versus what I used to get for just slightly less is WAY worth it. Stop searching for a place to go for color and just go here. read more

i don't much review on yelp but had to in this case. just got my second keratin treatment (previous one last july) with Maria. she is THE BEST. i'd read about different treatments through the years but it's a bit confusing and so i struggled with my fine hair becoming a frizz ball every summer. anyone who has considered this treatment should just do it, my hair was perfectly smooth all last summer. and it's not just the product (it makes the hair healthier) it's Maria's expertise. she's been doing this treatment for many years and really knows how to get the right result. although it's supposed to wash out in a few months, mine lasted all through the year because of her application. get off the fence and do this for your self! also shout outs to Tina who does my color, i followed her from another salon, she's that good. and also Sho is the master cutter. he dry cuts which is the only way. he gets custom scissors made so you know he's serious. the salon is really great all around, nice people and a relaxing atmosphere. read more
