I have seen him twice. First visit was fantastic. Today's visit did not sit well with me. His office staff was wonderful. He however was very different. I am legally blind and today he tells me even though I have little vision in one eye I should not be using a blind cane. It's "deceitful" because I have "perfect 20/20 vision" in my better eye. I asked the staff over the phone if the doc could give me a second opinion on a serious eye condition.they assured me that he could.I brougt a cd Kaiser Permanente made of pictures of my condition. All the doc did was look into my eyes and tell me my vision was not that bad.I had to ask him to look at the cd.he didn't seem interested in it . If I could give 0 stars I would. The assistant at the front desk did my whole eye exam, she was nice, but has no experience it seemed like. When I asked if the actual doctor could do my exam he refused and was apparently too busy walking around the office making jokes with the other employees.. so I had to unfortunately walk out of the appointment wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

I recently went to visit Dr. Hunt as a referral for a chromosome 16 microdeletion I have. It could in the future cause possible eye issues so my regular doctor sent me to him to get it checked out. Everything was great until he came in the room. Without even introducing himself first he says "this has to be the stupidest referral I've ever seen" at this point I'm speechless because who starts an appointment like that especially when you've never met this person. He then goes to ask me " your not stupid right" I responded with "no" and then he said "yeah your not retarded or a tard, so this is the most ridiculous pointless referral" I just looked at him in complete shock and awe, like who the hell says such things especially a doctor! Basically this microdeletion I have can cause learning disabilities or autism which is why he asked that. This man needs to leave this business because obviously he is in no right mind to help the public! What if I did have some kind of learning disability or my daughter, family member, etc... he has no clue and to say something like that is inexcusable!! I would love to do everything in my power to make sure this so called doctor never treats any other person in such a disgusting degrading manner. How dare him! I will be letting my regular doctor know what happened so he never refers anyone else to this awful man!! You are a horrible person James Hunt! read more

Dr Hunt did Pterygium Surgery on one of my eyes. After paying his fee, the hospital and anesthesiologist the surgery failed. His comment was, "The BAD news is that it did not take, the GOOD news is we can do it again." That was said after a few months of going back to get it checked. The good news is I did get it done and the bad news for Dr. Hunt is that I did NOT have it done by him and will never go back to him. read more

My husband and I started going to Dr. Hunt when we retired to Santa Rosa in 2010. We both have had various eye problems (I have floaters caused by PVD, dry eyes and developing cataracts; my husband has myopia and elevated eye pressure). We both have been very happy with the care we have received from Dr. Hunt. He seems very knowledgeable and his exams are thorough, and he takes the time to listen to and answer my questions/concerns about any current eye issues, other current health issues, as well as familial eye issues. He never seems to be in a rush (as some doctors do). When other measures didn't manage to lower my husband's eye pressure, he recommended and performed SLT, which lowered his eye pressure perfectly. We think Dr. Hunt is a wonderful ophthalmologist and a super-nice person. He has recently reopened his practice at a new location, and we are very happy to be under his care again! read more

I have had several eye checkups and glass prescriptions refilled over the last six years with Dr. Hunts office and each time I have had trouble with the optical dispensing person(s). I have an old style glasses frame and each person who has looked for a replacement has struggled to find my frames. When they found my frames it has been a major feat for them and the frames cost well over two hundred dollars. This last attempt took the optician 3 weeks and she seemed exasperated in her search for the frames. After my second inquiry of her progress I decided to check with Bing on my phone. In two minutes I found new ArtCraft frames on a site that specializes in hard to find frames in my size listed for $85. TWO MINUTES!!! When I called yesterday I was told after a difficult 3 week search my frames were there and would cost well over two hundred dollars although it was clear how much they actually cost. At this point I informed them about finding my hard to find for $85 and why would I want pay so much more for their frames. While getting the money back that I had left in deposit for the frames and lenses that at one point I was told inaccurately could be ordered in advance to the frames arrival. The office informed me they don't check "on-line" for frames and only go through their suppliers, and didn't want to know where I had found my frames... As I sat waiting for my refund I could hear the office money person making negative comments about me to whoever she was talking to on the phone about getting my money back. (Professional?) Refund papers in hand I left with one statement, "why should I be better at finding my glasses frames than they are?" It is after all what they do for a living. One other note about my checkup. It started with person who tried to set the eye focusing device to what was in my file? Anyway, it was so blurry that I wondered who's file numbers did she have... That aside she was very nice and we managed to get through the "is this better or worse" part to what I thought would be a good prescription after over two years of eye change. Then Dr. Hunt came in and said to me right off the bat my prescription wouldn't work because I needed cataract surgery. A conversation we have had since I have been seeing him. He was curt and argumentative. He also contradicted what he had said last time about my floaters might be more visible after the surgery. He also was dressed unlike I have ever seen him before. Levi's, no tie and kinda scruffy looking. Like he was ready to go jump on the massive motorcycle he has parked out on the sidewalk in front of his office. (One of the dispensing persons job is to in the middle of a conversation to jump up and shoo away kids who want to touch it!) I had already decided when it came time for cataract surgery I would go with a doctor who did only surgery on a daily basis and not Dr. Hunt. Now all that is a moot point as I will not be returning to Dr. Hunt. My wife gave up on his office two years ago when they total screwed up her visits with several mistakes and fumbles she would gladly sit you down and go through one by one. read more

my wife had severe pain because of a foreign object under her eyelid. i called dr. hunt friday morning and he agreed to see her friday evening . he very quickly removed the foreign object. she also had a sore throat which was very painful. as a courtesy he looked at her throat and prescribed an antibiotic which worked almost immediately beceause she had a bacterial infection. the next day dr. hunt called our house and asked how my wife was doing. this doctor is a total class act. i know more about doctors that anyone can conceivably imagine, and i can easily say that dr. hunt is a wonderful human being. neil glen ellen, california read more

I would like to say I was very happy with my visit today. I received superb customer service. It all started in the morning when I tore my last only pair of contacts. It was today a Saturday and my contact prescription expired in 06/12. Worried that I would have to go the whole weekend with out vision I searched frantically for an office to be open today. I searched Yelp and by looking for ophthalmologist that were open on Sat. I called around and no one had openings. I finally called Dr James office and the woman who answered the phone was friendly and understood my situation. I was set with an appointment in a couple of hours. I arrived at Dr James office and was greeted very friendly. Dr James assistant was friendly and warm. Dr James was also very friendly and we had a nice conversation about my beloved Giants. Finally Debi who fitted me with my new awesomely priced glasses was also very friendly and great. I would gladly recommend Dr. James and his staff to anyone. The office was recommended to me by my sister. It had been well over 5 years since my last exam and finally I thought I'd take the chance. Dr. Hunt is a funny, knowledgeable, and an attentive guy plus he loves kids! I brought my son in with me and Dr. Hunt was game to play with him. But back to my review, any questions or concerns I had were answered both by him and his assistant Maria. Which left me satisfied with the service I received! But of course it didn't end there! Mary, the optician, was an extremely lively person and also very attentive. I easily selected frames and the process of ordering glasses went by smoothly. Thanks to these great reviews, I found exactly what I was looking for, a very competent, experienced and exceptionally human physician sensitive to my preferences, and fully considerate of my senior citizen wants and needs. I am a physician myself, hence have maximal expectations plus abilities to evaluate. But I didn't let him or his staff know that until my visit was almost over, hence I wasn't getting any special treatment. All his staff were delightful, fully capable and competent, efficient, understanding, sensitive and respectful, more than happy to help, answer all my questions - and I had a lot, especially about state-of-the-art equipment new to me. I was amazed how thoroughly and carefully Dr. Hunt and his staff examined every aspect of my eyes with the latest equipment. They were all maximally patient and considerate with my questions and gave thorough answers, making sure I was satisfied in every way. I'm also very pleased with my new glasses: very unstated yet elegant, just what I wanted and need. Astounding one can find such caring service nowadays. Plus I did not have to wait at all, felt I had the staff all to myself, although the rest were of course helping other patients at the same time. - I'm sure they can't guarantee the schedule won't sometimes get pressured by an unexpected situation or emergency.
