We finally did brunch here and it was amazing. As usual, the food was fantastic! Let's talk gnocchi first, absolutely amazing. The oysters? Sweet, delicious, and honestly, we should've ordered more of those bad boys 12 was not enough. The coffee drinks were on point too. Nothing like a good cup to go with a great meal. The only feedback is for the chicken sando .....It was a bit dry and kinda salty, not what we expected. Still, James on Main nails it every time with the vibes and flavors. We had a great time and it's a top three for us for any time of day.

James on Main has fine dining food in terms of quality and presentation without the high price tag or stuffy vibe. We came with friends and ordered a few apps and the did the 3 course prix fixe menu. To start, we shared some of the most delicious potato wedges and bread. I'm glad we ordered these because the portions on the prix fixe menu are on the smaller side. The octopus and cheddar cheese grits were outstanding. The service was very prompt and our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us order. It's too bad this delightful restaurant is a little far from us or we'd be coming back regularly.

*Edit* The snarky, unapologetic, and downright rude response to the honest disappointment of not one, but TWO separate family experiences supports my review entirely. I'd give zero stars if I could. It's one thing to make good food, but positive experiences are what bring people back and you won't get that at James. They clearly do not value their patrons, and lack the self-reflection required to improve.** The food we did get was great, but their planning strategies need work and quite frankly I can get amazing food elsewhere for less pomp and circumstance. We went and selected the tasting menu and bread... well, we WANTED bread, but they were "out of bread". Until later that night when they were preparing the staff meal and we watched them warm the bread for themselves (see picture). Fine, whatever, it was one experience, right? But then tonight our in laws went and asked for bread to-go ... and their answer was that they "couldn't sell bread until they served everyone"... For a meal that's easily $200 a pop, the fact that they treat patrons as secondary and disposable is WILD. We would never go back based on general business practice

Our very first visit and the special occasion was my wife's birthday. We'll I can definitely say the Executive Chef ‍ and his team are outside the box. Everything we had was 5 stars and really impressed with his style and plated food. Portions are larger than expected and taste, quality and wait service excellent Great job and he reminds us of Jamie Knott from Saddle River Inn in Saddle River Bergen County. He may be a understudy of his Either way great job my wife and I truly enjoyed the experience!

One of my friends was RAVING about this restaurant so of course I had to give it a try I'm generally a picky eater, and my friend said if I'm trying new dishes to try them here because the chefs here do it RIGHT. I fully agree Not only was everything delicious, but the staff were beyond friendly. They change their menu up so we will definitely be back to try more dishes and get seating at the bar for a different experience! What we had: Two Course Prix Fixe Menu First- Wood Fired Octopus Rock Shrimp Tacos & Arnold Chili ----------------- Main- Beef Brisket Ragù Spatchcock Poussin ----------------- Sharing- Fried Potato Wedges ----------------- Dessert- Apple Crumb Cheesecake

First time for my wife and I. The service was fantastic. Keira(?) was sweet and knew everything about the menu. Great personality. Kevin was also very nice. We went for the two course prix-fix dinner. We shared the LOCALLY HEARTH BAKED MULTIGRAIN SOURDOUGH & BAGUETTE for TWO which was perfect for us - Delicious! As an appetizer, my wife had the CREPINETTE OF DUCK CONFIT and I had the WOOD FIRED OYSTERS. Both were rich and delectable. I had the BISON STRIP STEAK AU POIVRE and my wife had the SKILLET ROASTED DUCK BREAST and both were perfect!!!!! Never had a better meal. You can tell Chef Bill was trained by the best chefs in Europe. We shared CHEESECAKE which was also fantastic. Ausgezeichnet!!!!! WE WILL BE BACK FOR MORE!!!

I noted in the answers regarding BYOB that 3 to 5 years ago it was allowed. Today in 2025, does the restaurant still allow BYOB?

    Yes.

You have a regular dinner menu, or only Prix Fixe?

Only price fixed at this time if dining in the restaurant.

Can we still BYOB? I am so excited to try this place finally!!

Yes, you can still BYOB. I highly recommend this place. We are going this Saturday.

Can you bring wine or beer with you?

Yes! absolutely, we are a BYOB. Thank you for your question. Hope to see you soon.…

4.5 stars. Is it that good?

Yes - excellent fresh food with a creative edge - go ahead & give it a try - be sure to make a reservation. I just went there Tuesday & it was packed.

We were able to make a reservation, and the restaurant was kind enough to extend our reservation when we were delayed -- especially on one of their busiest nights of the week. Maria was exceptionally nice and helpful in making reservations. Food was delicious and enjoyable throughout all the courses. The Picanha and Beef Short Ribs were my favorites of the Rodizio. My parents split a steak entree and the salmon - the restaurant was kind enough to split both entrees on two plates for each of them. Both servings were generous. Had an Old Fashioned and a Caipirinha - both were excellent. They also have an extensive wine and whiskey menu. Service was pretty good. I would say the only hiccup was the food took forever to come, which seems strange for Rodizio. But I attribute the delay to the tardiness of two folks in our party, and a little inexperience of our server. But aside from that, he did a good job. We got to meet the manager Tatiana, who was fabulous - you can tell she cares about her craft, and the owner Joe, who was exceptionally kind and friendly. My niece and his son apparently went to the same school, so it was truly nice to make the acquaintance. I love to support small business, and it doesn't get better than this. I will make sure to stop here again soon - this was a fantastic experience.

So yes, by my highly scientific logic, this is also a Mexican spot. The decor definitely leans Mexico, heavy, which its amazing, kept reminding me of my favorite Mexican restaurant. But anyway, we're not here for interior design, we're here to eat. There's a LOT going on here, menu wise and vibe pwise, but in a good way. I ordered the Sandwiches de Miga 'Olímpico' and if you haven't tried them yet, that's a personal failure you can still fix. They're a must. Soft, classic, comforting... except for the edges. The edges were... questionable. Hard/frozen-ish. Not blaming anyone directly, maybe the fridge settings were on "Antarctica," maybe they weren't fully thawed. We'll never know. But that first bite hurt emotionally. It was like ordering a burger without pickles, taking a confident bite, and BOOM! pickle. Suddenly your whole day shifts slightly off center. Service wise: the guy at the counter stared at me, I started my order with zero greeting, felt like human self checkout, and I'm fine with that. Sometimes you don't want conversation, you just want carbs. Despite the frozen edge plot twist, I'm 100% coming back. The food has real potential, the place has character, and I need to try their asado.

In the dining room, where we were seated, there was our table of two, another table of two and a table of three. The other two tables were at the end of their meals. Our server, who also greeted us at the door, was more interested in looking at his smart phone than seating us. He gave us the dinner menus, instead of lunch menus which was a sign of things to come. It was almost 1/2 hour before the server returned to take our order. At this point the two other tables of patrons were gone. We ordered a Wedge salad and French onion soup for starters. The Wedge salad was perfect, except for the large piece of Italian bread served with it which was charred, but edible out of desperation. The onion soup was TASTELESS and the cheese on the top of it was BURNT, blackened to the extent there was no mistaking whoever prepared it was not paying attention when they made it and had no problem sending it out to be served burnt. Against my better judgment, and further desperation, I ate the tasteless, burnt soup. For the main course, we had a turkey club and mussels Fra Diavolo. The "fra diavolo" sauce had no kick to it at all. They might as well have called the dish mussels in marinara sauce. The turkey club, which was ordered with no mayonnaise, had almost NO turkey on it ~ no exaggeration ~ there was only one thin slice of turkey on it! I should have sent it back immediately, but I took my first bite and then signaled for the iPhone obsessed server. I asked him for the manager and he panicked as if he did something wrong. I assured him the problem was with the food, although I should have reported him for his inability to put his iPhone down and do his job. The manager came to our table asking how she could help and I showed her the sandwich pointing to the lack of turkey. She agreed that the club sandwich was very much in need of its main ingredient -- turkey. She apologized and took my plate and said she would order me another. About 20 minutes later, our iPhone loving server returned with a new turkey club with the appropriate amount of turkey on it. We were offered no compensation for the first embarrassed turkey club which was almost sans turkey, not that we were looking for some type of compensation, but any type of gesture would have been nice. It has been years since we last ate at the Public House since moving from the area, but this will definitely be our last visit. I wouldn't recommend the place to anyone, even if the food were free. Be forewarned...you would have a more satisfying meal from a fast food restaurant!
