I purchased a 2017 Jeep Wrangler JKU from Carlos at JW Chevrolet in Denton. This was by far the best car purchase I have ever had. I recently had my car totaled during the crazy hail storm and needed a new vehicle for my daily drive. I had gone to many dealerships throughout the metroplex and stumbled on the lot at James Wood of Denton. I had no idea what I wanted and never owned a Chevrolet. I was professionally greeted by Carlos, who immediately treated me as if I were his most valued customer. He helped me pick what type of vehicle I wanted and took me to the lot to show me the Jeep I chose in a golf cart. Carlos, being a wrangler owner, also shared with me the ins and outs of the car that I had just fallen in love with. This Jeep was a 2017 with only 35K miles on it and was priced well below what I thought I would need to pay. He patiently worked with my needs, I had kids that wanted to test the back seat, I had a wife out of town working and needed a couple of days to make sure she liked the Jeep. I was amazed at how well this dealership cared for our family and got us into the vehicle we needed. I know in the future I will be returning to purchase another vehicle and I would Highly recommend anyone to come and check out the buying and leasing experience themselves. To top it all off, they were able to finance us at a lower rate than even my Credit Union could offer. The team at James Wood of Denton got my 5-star rating.

Let me just say, I will NEVER use James Wood Dealership in denton ever again!!! I took my truck in for "service air bag" light on my dash. First they told me I had to pay $800 for a new passenger airbag (that they did a recall on in Dec 2022). When I took the problem to a manager telling them I wasn't paying for a new part when they put a bad one in to begin with. He tells me that doesn't sound right that my new part has a 2 year warranty. He wants to run another diagnostic to make sure. Turns out, they diagnosed it wrong, it's now the airbag in my seat, but they are going to start with replacing the connector because airbags don't generally ever go bad. I go to pick up my truck yesterday, and my driver side Dash is completely cracked in multiple places. They try to argue with me saying they never even got in my Dash so they don't know how it got broken. They are also only offering me a $500 credit, for what is probably going to be a $1,500-$2,000 job. Umm. What?!?!?! How is that right? It wasn't broken when I dropped it off, and now you're telling me I have to pay for it? No, this should be fully covered by the dealership. They had nerve to tell me "this is a common problem with these dashes" as if trying to make light of the situation. NEVER AGAIN, will I trust James Wood to do any work on my truck.!!! I have witnesses who were in my vehicle before dropping it off to them that can verify this was not the way I gave it to the dealership.

Hmph looks like proof to me

I asked how long it would take to get an oil change today if I come in at 1pm and was told it should be about 30 to 45 minutes. (Normal timing) I got there and the price was different, asked about the special and was told there isn't one. I told her I had just spoken to someone that told me they had a special. She seemed annoyed that they told me they had a special. (That that was a call center who told me about the special and that they shouldn't be doing that). Then she proceed to try to upsell me an oil change package. When I asked questions about the package she had no answers to my basic questions regarding the package. While the car's…read moreshorter length compared to the 2026 Honda CR-V is exactly what I wanted, the dealership experience was an absolute failure from the top down. The lack of transparency started before I even arrived. I texted Manager Alex King in the morning to confirm my arrival time. He told me it was 'perfect' and that Reece would help me, completely hiding the fact that he wouldn't even be in the building. When I arrived at noon and asked to introduce myself to Alex--since we had done all our communicating via text--I was finally told Alex wasn't even there. I used Toyota's official SmartPath online ordering method to buy this vehicle. However, when I arrived, the VIN on my SmartPath online order sheet did not match the physical car paperwork given to me at the dealership. My salesperson, Reece Casteel, was completely untrained on how to explain this mismatch. He gave a highly confusing explanation about 'temporary factory VINs' vs 'dealer-assigned VINs' and had to get a manager to correct him just to verify it was the same car. If Toyota is going to push SmartPath online ordering, they need to ensure the factory VIN matches the dealer VIN, or at least train their staff to explain it properly instead of confusing customers. Reece then completely rushed the delivery process, skipping the basic vehicle walkthrough and leaving me with no idea how to operate any of the car's safety amenities. The timeline games continued with my vehicle's arrival. I was initially told the car would not arrive until tomorrow. The exact moment I showed them a physical cashier's check for the full amount and maxed out my credit card to get my reward points, the timeline magically changed and I was told the car was suddenly ready on the lot. Because I didn't take a loan, a separate manager took my check into the back and came out to interrogate me about whether the money was financed through my own bank, desperately trying to find a way to flip me into a dealership loan. When they realized it was 100% personal cash out of my checking account, Finance Manager Ronald Jackson became incredibly aggressive and pushy, trying to force unwanted extra services and warranties onto my bill to make up for their lost finance profit and credit card processing fees. To top it off, the vehicle was packed with $1,737 in unrequested distributor add-ons (crossbars, organizers, etc.). When I contacted Alex King within 24 hours--with only 20 miles on the odometer--to utilize their 3-day exchange policy, he completely refused to assist. He made excuses that a swap was impossible unless the exact vehicle was already sitting on his lot, hiding behind the excuse that 2026 models are hard to find. He didn't make a single effort to call neighboring Toyota dealerships to initiate a standard dealer trade to satisfy a cash customer. This dealership completely abandons you the exact second they have your cash. Avoid Reece Casteel, Ronald Jackson, and Alex King. Go to Honda or a different Toyota dealer instead.

A few months ago, I brought my 2022 Raptor in for The Works service package. After getting home, I noticed part of my splash shield had been left off during the oil change. I called the dealership, and they asked me to come back. When I arrived, they couldn't locate the missing piece and told me they would order a replacement. A few days later, they called to let me know the part had arrived. I told them I wouldn't be able to bring the truck back for a few days, and when I finally did, I explained the entire situation to the service advisor. He seemed confused at first, but eventually told me he had figured everything out and that they'd take care of it. I waited in the lobby for two hours. When the advisor came to get me, he said my truck was ready. Given my previous experience, I decided to verify the repair before leaving. To my surprise, the splash shield was still missing. I had just spent two hours waiting for absolutely nothing to be done, yet I was told the repair had been completed. That completely destroyed my confidence in the service department. Fast forward to today. I had no choice but to return for another The Works service since there aren't many Ford dealerships in my area. Before handing over my keys, I explained what had happened during my previous visit and emphasized that I simply wanted the work done correctly. The service advisor assured me everything would be handled properly. A few hours later, I received a call informing me that the technician had forgotten to put my wheel lock key back in my truck. At this point, it's no longer an isolated mistake, it's a pattern of carelessness and a lack of quality control. When customers are paying to have their vehicles serviced, they should be able to trust that basic procedures are followed and that their vehicle is returned complete. The service advisors have generally been polite, but the repeated mistakes and apparent lack of oversight reflect poorly on the leadership of the service department. Based on my experiences, management needs to take a much more active role in ensuring work is completed correctly before vehicles are returned to customers.

While I didn't purchase it from them, I did service it there for the entire time I owned it. Generally, I had positive experiences. Unfortunately, our experience at AutoNation Denton on July 3, 2026, was very different. We visited to test drive a 2018 Subaru Forester with 101k miles for my niece, who is a first-time driver and college student. From our initial online inquiry, we were transparent about budget and made it clear we were not interested in add-on packages or upselling. The car was listed online at $16,722. Jacob, assisted with the test drive, was outstanding. He was patient, professional, and made my nervous new driver feel comfortable. Josiah (turns out the rep who had texted in the AM) was also courteous and respectful throughout the process. The initial quote, exceeding $20k, included several add-on packages we had already said we didn't want. Even after those packages were removed, the numbers still weren't competitive given the vehicle's year/trim/condition, including a broken lift gate. Nevertheless, no harm...no foul. We understand it's a process. We thanked Josiah and proceeded to leave. Josiah asked for a number to take to his manager to reconsider. Bryan, Sales Manager soon entered and proceeded to ruin a 10-year reputation. Bryan had emailed me a promo packet on the Forester earlier in the morning. At which time, I let him know our case. So we should have all been on the same page. He proceeded to give an updated quote of around $18k, with a barked "cash or finance." We indicated neither. We said we would keep the quote in consideration in case something changes. As I went to take a picture of the quote, Bryan SNATCHED it from my hand stating it was confidential to his office. What in the actual?!? My husband and I have purchased multiple cars, and never have we had a sales team SNATCH ANYTHING FROM OUR HANDS! Let alone a quote to represent a good faith offer. That behavior simply REINFORCED that we had indeed made the correct decision. It was unprofessional and unnecessarily confrontational. We thanked everyone for their time and left. We ended up finding 2 comparable vehicles in better condition at more reasonable prices across the street. That dealership wasn't originally in our plan to visit. It's unfortunate because Jacob and Josiah represented the dealership well, but the management interaction overshadowed an otherwise positive experience. We won't be returning to AutoNation Denton. In the DFW, we have MANY choices in the businesses we support. No need to accept disrespect under any circumstance. Proceed with caution if you must and Good Luck!
