This place is a diabetics wet dream. Amazing treats are to be had here! Thick slabs of cake, gooey rolls and huge cupcakes. If you are on a diet, avoid Sweet Things at all costs or cheat one day and do extra crunches to make up for the indulgence. We got our wedding cake from them, and not only did they make the whole three layer cake out of organic material (and not charge us out the wazoo for doing it) The cake wasn't thousands of dollars either! read more

The employees aren't enforcing the COVID rules. Twice I have been there with 5 people inside (a tiny tiny store) and their sign clearly says 3. My baby can't wear a mask and there is no way to physically distance with 5 people. I won't go back until they make it safer. Also, it's incredibly slow. First time in here. I was looking for 2 cakes for my sister's birthday and was recommended to go here by a close friend. I decided to give it a shot and drive out there from Petaluma. I was nothing more than disappointed. First off, do not expect to be greeted as you walk in. Secondly, as it was my first time, I wanted to try 2 of the loaf cakes they had. Unfortunately, the worker not only spoke to me like I was dumb to ask such a question, but she then said that if I wanted to try anything I would have purchase the whole loaf; a hefty $35 value. Wow. How are you suppose to purchase anything in this store without knowing if you like it first? My advice, someone should let the owner know so it can be changed. I could have been a long term customer, but the worker's cold attitude made me leave. I will let my friend know about my experience and she won't be back either. Off to somewhere that actually appreciates my business. read more

This Bakery is truly as good as it gets. I first became acquinted with this bakery when I worked in Tiburon. And when I first opened my coffee shop vowed to have their baked goods on hand. And after 13 years, I still continue to order from them because there products are fresh and the staff is so helpful. My current favorite is the Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes. And Tres Leches. I have ordered: red velvel cupcakes & cake, lemon cupcakes, carrot cupcakes & cake, black and white cake and mini, lemon bars, brownies, apricot bars, apple pie, boysenberry pie, big roadie cookies, chocolate chip cookies, ginger crisps, . . after all they must be doing something right, they have been in business for 30 years. A couple of months ago my fiance and I came in for the best day of our whole wedding planning experience...cake tasting. We already knew this place had good selections, but Michele sat down with us and gave us a huge selection of some of the best cakes I've ever tasted. She was incredibly nice, unpretentious, and down to earth and didn't seem bothered at all by our gluttonous enthusiasm. We ended up doing a 6" simple carrot cake and cream cheese frosting cake (THE BEST CAKE THERE) , and 4 12x18 sheet cakes: 2 carrot cake, one chocolate with chocolate fudgy frosting, and a lemon cake. We didn't do any fancy tiered work for it, but I still think the price was really fair (given it's the Bay Area). It fed easily 150 people and then we ended up having a whole sheet cake leftover for around $400. It basically ended up being a little over $2 per slice of cake. Loved this place and will come back for birthdays and other celebrations...or a Tuesday night snack. read more

Since I'm on the subject of sweets, I decided to write this review of their decadent cakes and pastries. I think I'd like one of these bakeries like uhm, er, in my own kitchen! Taste is crucial for a good bakery but another crucial aspect is FRESHNESS. I've been to so many run of the mill bakeries where the person at the counter whole-heartedly assured me that the cake/pastry I was about to buy was FRESH but alas, to my chagrin and sometimes anger, it turns out not! I have been going to this bakery for 30 years. It is one of my favorite places to stop and get something delicious. I just went online to recommend the Black Magic Cake to a friend and I saw that they did not have a review since 2014. Where do I start. My favorite dessert is cake. I adore their Carrot Cake and their Black Tie Cake. You can usually buy these 2 by the slice. The other items I buy are their wonderful assort of cookies, brownies and blondies, fruit tarts and fabulous cheesecake. My friend on the other side of the county will ask me to get her their specialty scones. This bakery has something for everyone. Fresh high grade ingredients. I am not a coffee drinker but they have coffee and tea drinks. Seating inside and out. I have never been disappointed. It really is the best. I love it. read more

Sweet Things is a reliable, fabulous place to shop for treats. First, they provide a great experience. Everyone who works there has a great attitude and is always willing to accommodate customer needs. Not only that, but the space is always energized and bustling with locals. Their food is fabulous! They have a great variety of desserts and breakfast pastries and I also adore their loose leaf teas. I highly recommend the lemon cake, angel food cake, and ice cream cookies. This is also a great place for gluten free eaters. They have an assortment of gluten free items (chocolate chews and mocha kisses are out of this world), with a full list of ingredients. And how good is it, you ask? Here's an interesting take on this cake: I bought a Sweet Things carrot cake for my husband's birthday. A bunch of us were having a picnic at a winery in Healdsburg that was releasing a blush that day. Outdoor live music, Hog Island oysters, tastings and so on. We were having a lovely day and I even ate 2 raw oysters! Delicious. About 2 hours in, I began to feel really strange (physically). I decided that I had to do the birthday cake and candles since we'd all snacked and eaten and my condition was deteriorating fast. We pulled out the cake, lit the candles, did the birthday thing and served it up. I was NOT hungry at all since I was feeling nauseated and could only muster a couple bites. Seriously, I was sweating and an alien was about to jump out of my chest. I was looking for places to crawl away and die. 15 minutes later, I was in the bathroom re-enacting the bridal shop scene from Bridesmaids. A bad oyster had me on my knees for 2 days. :( HOWEVER, the bites of cake I ate (before the wave of mutilation hit) were delicious. If you've ever had food poisoning, you know that the last thing you want to do is eat or drink anything. It makes you even sicker. So, the fact that this cake got high marks from someone who ate it while suffering from unrelated food poisoning... proves it's at least worth a shot. The day of my wedding, I pick up the cake- it's the wrong design. Then one of the owners came out to talk to me. An older blondish/white haired lady. When I told her it was supposed the icing and style wasn't what I ordered for my wedding cake, she said with a stone face "so so you not want it then?". Mind you my wedding was in 3 hours.I asked if it could be fixed. She said no bc her cake artist wasn't in (again in a stone cold tone). My friend who were with me were appalled with this poor service. This old lady was heartless, and offered no suggestions to fix it. Then when I cut the cake at the wedding, I discovered that they screwed up the flavors of the cake. They weren,t what I ordered and the cake was so dry!!! Most of the guests didn't finish their cake. Good for an occasional cupcake, but beware of the mean old lady who should have retired years ago. First, let's start with my wedding cake. I ordered a three layer cake to be delivered the day of my 5pm wedding. There had been a huge storm and blackout in Southern Marin the night before, so we had a few last minute audibles, which were out of everyone's control. Hence, my parents called Sweet Things the morning of the wedding and were told that everything was "just fine" and my cake would be there on time, "no problem". It came alright, looked beautiful for about one hour, and then fell apart all over the table...it literally melted. I guess they were jamming to make all the cakes since their power went out the night before, but they should have found an alternate bakery (Sweet Things Laurel Village??) or been straight up about the fact that the cake would never cool in time. The chunck I picked up off the table and tasted was pretty yummy nonetheless. Fast forward to two weeks ago, when my girlfriend decided to use Sweet Things for her wedding cake. She wanted to do a cake tasting, so the Maid of Honor (MOH) called twice (the day before and the day of) to confirm a time. The guy who answered the phone (both times) told them to come by anytime, no appointment neccessary. So, they did, and the grumpy old lady tried to turn them away, saying it wasn't a good time. After an explanation by the MOH, the GOL (grumpy old lady) finally caved, but with an attitude. Same rude, bad attitude when I went in to pick up the cake and again when we had to drop a rental piece off a couple of days later. Not the end of the world, but shouldn't this be a positive place to work...a charming shop full of sweets, cupcakes, and the happy people who want to buy and eat them every day? I'd rather pay more at Whole Foods or drive to Victoria Pastry where everything is divine! read more

I loved their desserts but recently I read the ingredients and was disappointed to see there is high fructose corn syrup and loads of un natural additives. Really sad. I don't like to write bad things about businesses but I am hoping they would go back to how they used to make their desserts. Especially the cup cakes. You might as well go to Costco. read more

The place that introduced me to tres leches cake (that I still love) deserves 4 stars. I used to love their black and whites, and on rainy days after swim practice I always begged my mom to stop here for hot chocolate and cinnamon bun muffins. Many years later it seems they are moving more towards catering and less focused on in shop eating which is sad but understandable due to the location. I wouldn't go out of my way but if you're in the area craving something sweet stop in, or if you're looking for decently priced and tasty local made cupcakes for a party. read more

I am a fan of their chai. Not too sweet and not too spicy. I have never had them overheat the milk. A lot of moms and other people seem to be here after school drop off and before school pick up. I have had to wait in line but never for too long. Well once when a woman was meanly calling their cake decoration ugly. Yes, she is used the word ugly and other words. We have been getting birthday cakes from Sweet Things for years because everyone in our family loves their Black Tie cake! Our daughter is heading off to college next week and requested a Sweet Things cake at her going away party. I asked that the writing be done in the college colors and asked it they could add the college logo. What they did was so much more than I expected-it was such an accurate representation that they must have done some research. Sweet Things in the Cove Shopping Center will have you dreaming of their black and white (a classic and Sweet Things signature) and red velvet cupcakes. I love this place when I'm craving a taste of sweetness (the prices are not extravagant for the cupcakes and cookies--they are on par with other specialty cupcake shops, around $3) If you want to impress at a tea party or other party with a small sweet gift for all to enjoy, try bringing any of Sweet Things' tasty treats and watch the guests flock! The small cafe is adorable with tables and chairs to sit quietly with a book, coffee and a cupcake. Friendly staff and reasonable prices (at least for the small treats). Sweet deal! read more
