It's a pretty small restaurant but there were plenty of seats when we came for dinner on a weekend night. The side dishes were ordinary and the kimchi was not ripe enough. We tried two soups and I wasn't very impressed by either one of them. They were pretty bland. There wasn't much flavor though they do give you a ton of noodles. Considering the huge number of Korean restaurants in the area, I doubt I would come back to this one. There just wasn't anything special about it. read more

I'm just glad she didn't call me "babo" ;p Parking is in a small private lot shared by Casa de Market Liquor, Sushi Gallery, Fantastic Cafe etc. Service was friendly, if a little slow. I've been wanting to visit Jangkumyine for a while now since spotting it on Yelp. The place is fairly small and for lunch on a Saturday it was a Korean clientele which was a solid sign. The friendly older lady who I suspect is the owner was super welcoming and kind. I mentioned this was my first time visit and she suggested and circled six items on the menu. I ended up choosing the Sal Kalguksu Chicken soup - flat fresh wheat noodles and So Bulgogi - sliced thin beef marinated in sweet soy sauce. Both of her suggestions didn't disappoint. The fresh made in house noodles were awesome tasting and the broth tasted like I was eating at some body's home. Along with the entrees ordered I received complimentary ice tea, barley rice and a large variety of yummy banchan. The portions of food ordered was large and reasonable compared to other Korean joints I've visited. For all this food it was less than $20.00 plus tip. A quaint Korean restaurant in Cerritos that serves some of the best comfort foods in the area, highlighted by their house-made noodles, braises, grilled fish and soups. Until recently they were doing business under the name of Jangkumyine Restaurant. The interior is dated, a decor very familiar in Korean restaurants - with wooden tables tightly aligned and separated just wide apart enough to allow guests and servers to pass through. Paper copies of their menu (front and back) also serve as place mats on the tables. More importantly the food is also refreshingly traditional and as close to a savory, home-cooked Korean meal as you can get. This includes a tasty variety of banchan (Korean side dishes) including fresh kimchi, young turnip leaves kimchi, mungbean jelly, soy bean sprouts, sauteed anchovies and soy sauce glazed potatoes among others, served along with barley rice. A delicious and hearty bowl of Yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), $8.99 and the savory, spicy Kalchi Jorim (cutlassfish with radish), $18.99 are my two favorite dishes of the handful of select items I have tried. Man I wish there was a place like this around here... My brother and his fam took me here for dinner. I totally knew this was going to be a good place just entering the restaurant, and also because my bro's spot on with Korean restaurants. It's an unassuming restaurant in a strip mall in an area with a gazillon strip malls. The yugaejang (spicy beef stew) here is really good and you get a large portion. It's chock full of beef, scallion, and egg. The only thing is that if you can't handle the heat, don't order this or ask to tone it down. It's one of the spiciest yugaejang I've ever had. The mandoo hot pot is definitely warm and filling. You get a lot of large mandoo, but also noodles and sliced rice cake, along with lots of veg. The mandoo has a nice meat filling and you definitely won't be hungry after that. The panchan served is numerous and of good quality. The service is really attentive and friendly. (400!) read more

I'm totally in between a 4 and 5 stars for Jang Dok Dae but we had great customer service so I rounded up to a 5! This is definitely a family style type restaurant located in a small corner plaza. Portions are quite large! We ordered 3 dishes and only managed to finish about 1.5 of it all. I loved the barley rice with soybean paste that starts off the meal. Few Korean restaurants these days give this so I really appreciated it. My favorite dish of the night was the chicken kalguksoo. I'm a huge fan of the chicken kalguksoo at the famous Hangari Bajirak Kalguksoo in LA but the one here totally is on par in its own way! I LOVEEE the slightly curly and chewy noodles in this soup. Not sure if they make it in house but it would be an extra plus if they did! I also really liked how the chicken is already shredded off the bone and how the potatoes slices are sliced very thinly. HUGE portion enough to feed 2 people. We also got the Bulgogi which was pretty standard compared to every other Korean place. Lastly we got the Korean pancake with chives. I liked it a lot too and I really wished I had tasted a bite when it was first served. By the time I got to eating a slice of the pancake, it wasn't as hot anymore and the texture wasn't crispy on the edges which is usually how I like it. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the flavor. We were so full after the chicken kalguksoo that each of us only ate 1 slice of the pancake! Topped off with the 2 miso soups that came with what we ordered apparently (no idea it came with our food...or maybe everyone gets this?), 2 bowls of rice, and the usual 5-6 banchan dishes, we quickly realized we ordered WAY too much! I've never been here before, and this rating is solely based on the Gamjatang I ordered. I've been to a few places in k-town that specialize in just gamjatang alone, and all I get is a whole lot of potato and veggies in the soup. I was pleasantly surprised, with the amount of pork neck meat that was in this stew! There were chunks and chunks of it! I don't know if I just got lucky, but there was so much meat, that I was actually full! The broth was tasty, mixed with the taste of the chopped veggies, made it very flavorful. There were two big chunks of potato that didn't fill up most of the stew, because there was actually more meat!!! I know people on here are raving about the banchan, but I feel like it wasn't even that good or did they have a good variety of it. My to go order did not look like it was only one food item. It was nicely packed in the to go container and well presented despite it being in a box. I like this place. It's great if you're sick or just needing something to warm your soul. It's a no frills type of Korean home cooked comfort food place with large portions. Korean restaurants aren't really known for their service but here they are very friendly and attentive. Parking is relatively easy as it is in a small plaza with a shared lot. Once we had to wait maybe five minutes for a table at lunch, but the other times we were able to get seated right away. Their menu is pretty vast compared to other Korean restaurants so it's difficult to decide what to order sometimes, but you can't go wrong with the recommendations. Like other Korean restaurants, you get some complimentary side dishes. You can order a giant bowl of chicken porridge or a big bowl of noodles for a great price. HoLyyy SmOkEs!!!!! This place is soo good. I wish I could give them 20 stars! Portions were HUGE and the food is so authentic. I was feeling a little run down from 8 hours of travel and decided to look for some samgetang but not a lot of places do it. I had my husband go pick up and bring back to our hotel room and these portions were enormous. I ordered 3 things and he brought back what looked to be enough to feed 6+ people!!! This is a good place I think for those used to home cooked Korean food the way their mom's make it. I love trying different restaurants and this place had good reviews however my palate for this place was that it's more for a family, large group and those wanting homestyle Korean taste. Personally, it was a lot of food, I didn't enjoy their side dishes as much and for some of their dishes it was more veggies than the actual dish. Their seafood had small amount of maybe 6-10 little clams then the rest was soup and large radish. Their fish was plenty although on my end, I don't like to remove bones from the fish too much so I think I needed to pick one with less bones. I prefer Bon Tofu Grill in Fountain Valley as a favorite spot and their side dishes are plenty! The food was packed wonderfully with generous portions and everything was delicious. It definitely has a homemade feeling to it with very clean flavors and the variety of banchan you receive with your order. The barley rice is delicious, too. Everything tastes like it was made with love, so I echo everyone else's sentiment that it feels like you're eating your mother or grandmother's cooking, even if you aren't Korean. Every year for us, it's red bean & mandu/rice cake soup for New Year's. We heard that this place served those dishes so we dropped by. We were excited to try this place, which had a very homey feel to it. The steamed pork slid off the bone with a simple budge from your chopsticks (we ended up using the leftovers for a homemade kimchi stew). The sesame noodle was definitely an acquired taste, we'd try something else next time. The red bean soup they serve with a salt shaker up for you to decide, but we actually prefer it with sugar:) They're known for their spicy cod dish, definitely excited to try it one day. Located on the corner of 166 and Norwalk next to my local favorite sushi spot, Sushi Gallery, is where you'll find Jang Dok Dae. I recently discovered that this is one of my mother's favorite restaurants and for that reason this place will always have a special place in my heart. It's a beautiful and small family owned restaurant that serves some of the best korean food. I would personally rate their seafood kalguksu a solid five out of five. It's broth is saturated with the essence of the ocean and each mouthful will literally transport you a personal meet and greet with Ariel, princess of Atlantica. All seriousness aside, give it a try and give it a go on an especially cold winter's night. It's absolutely beautiful :). Btw, I'm watching The Office season 7 episode 19 and tearing up right now. I'm rather surprised that the majority of my peers rate Jangkumyine Restaurant so well. I'm sure there are a few entrees that the restaurant is good for, like their Myelchi Kalguksu - anchovy soup made with flat wheat noodles. For $5.99 at lunch and a dollar more for dinner, it's not a bad deal. However, I had a few bites of that dish and I didn't think it compared very well with the competition. The noodles weren't soft at all, a bit undercooked IMO. The broth seemed flavorless. Where's the love Jangkumyine? As for the ban chan (side dishes), it was average. I also felt that the service was a bit lacking. TTEOK GUK As traditional as you can get in Korean cuisine. Best known to be eaten during the celebration of the Korean New Year. It's beef broth (guk), thinly sliced rice cake (tteok), eggs, green onion, and cut seaweed (gim). You can also add dumplings as well. It didn't taste bad, much better than the Myelchi Kalguksu. We also shared the Tteokbokki (rice cake, fish cake, and sweet red chili sauce), which is a really popular snack food. What got me again this time was the texture of the rice cake. It's supposed to be soft, but I didn't feel that at all. I'm sure that I wouldn't pay $8.99 for that again. At home, we usually dunk the rice cake in water and place it in the fridge. After a day or so, the rice cake turns soft and smooth. Ready to go! I don't know why restaurants don't do that. As for the rest of the menu, there are some speciality dishes, but you have to know that this restaurant doesn't really specialize in any of them, so I would rather drive a bit further and spend a little more money to get the real deal. On a previous visit, I got an order of the Patjuk, which is red bean (azuki) soup. I recently had Okrumong's version in LA and I thought it was fabulous. Jangkumyine's rendition? Atrocious. The soup had absolutely no flavor, watery, with barely any red bean. Discovering this at home, we were so appalled, that we actually drove back and demanded our money back. Came for dinner and got a table right away. Servers are friendly. We ordered green onion pancake, tteokbokki (rice cake), and chicken noodle soup. Food was delicious. The pancake was crispy and light. The Tteokbokki was pretty good and spicy. I wish the rice cake was a little softer and bouncier. The chicken noodle soup was flavorful and perfect timing for my cold. It was soothing to drink the soup. Foods came with lots of side dishes and barley rice which was interesting to try. Talk about handmade knife noodles.... wow. I've been coming here since I was 12 when they used to be called "Old Style Handmade Knife Noodles". I absolutely love their noodles, the flavor of their broth and most of all their complimentary barley rice with kimchi and dwenjang. The owners here are so nice and it's run by an older couple. I always hear them talking to each other so sweetly. I've never been disappointed coming here. I wish I lived across the street, I'd come here 5 times a week. Jangkumyine is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in the Cerritos/Buena Park area. I've been coming here once every couple of weeks for over a year now and have been satisfied with each visit. I found Jangkumyine via Yelp as it shows up as the fist listing with high ratings when searching for lunch spots around Cerritos. Jangkumyine is located in a small plaza that houses other Asian restaurants on Norwalk and 166th Street with enough parking so accessibility is not a problem. I would generally go around 1 p.m. to avoid the lunch rush but lately they have become very popular and the lunch rush seems to extend beyond 2 p.m. Jangkumyine is a small restaurant with about 10 tables and is manned by only two people who serve as busser, server and cashier all rolled into one. The menu here is pretty simple and is basically printed on the paper tablecloth on which your food is served. The left hand side has dishes in three categories $5.99, $7.99 and $8.99 and are the lunch portions so I generally stick to it. They recently had a price increase where they moved some dishes from the lower priced category into the higher priced ones but that's no biggie. The other two sections are more for family style dishes that are common in Korean dining so I avoid those. I've tried a lot of dishes from the menu and generally have liked what I've eaten. Here are details of some that I can recall: Chunggukjang ($5.99): A thick stew made from beef, tofu and kimchee in a broth seasoned with fermented soybeans. This obviously is not the faint of heart. It has a strong nose due to the fermented soybeans, but believe me it smells worse when someone else is eating it. When it is in front of you if you survive the first two minutes then you are good. Surprisingly the taste is very good but is definitely an acquired taste. Bibimguksu ($7.99) - This is essentially cold noodles with assorted vegetables. It's not very spicy like other dishes and is Yum. One of the best cold noodles to date. Yukgaejang ($7.99) - This is a spicy soup with beef and assorted vegetables. It is very good but I like the one in Han Sang better. Also the quantity that they provide is enough to feed a small army. Almost impossible to finish by one person in one sitting. Sujebi ($8.99) - This is a soup made with small pieces of handmade pasta. I had it with Anchovies. I did not like this dish too much but the anchovies were bomb!!! Dak Kalguksu ($7.99) - This is chicken soup with flat wheat noodles. This is also very good and as it is not spicy it would be a starting point for someone embarking on Korean food. Service is good. Even though I'm the only odd ball out all the time, I'm treated the same as anyone else. The lady server is very sweet. Lately as they have become very busy the service has been slow but thankfully the food quality has not slipped. When you enter they start you off with some free ice tea. Then they give you some boiled brown rice, fermented bean paste and some pickled vegetables to snack on till they get your main dish. Finally with the main dish expect about 7 different types of ban-chan or side dishes which obviously has kimchee as one of the items but the others keep changing over time. This is one of the few restaurants where even the ban-chan is very good specially the kimchee. One more plus is that they take cards without any minimums. If you are looking for a general Korean restaurant when in the Cerritos/Buena Park area I would without hesitation recommend Jangkumyine (for specialized Korean dishes there are other options e.g. Cho Dang Tofu for soon dubu, Jangmo jib for sul lung tang, Gombo wang for nengmyun Jongro Kimbap for kimbap etc. but overall Korean food it would be Jangkumyine). read more

A surprising find! Family style restaurant with good comfort food and friendly service. Amidst a variety of Korean restaurants nearby, I have to say this is my favorite. Dined here numerous times and my usual is Gamjatang. Generous portion even as a single serving size. As you can tell from the gallery of pictures, they are known for their fresh wheat noodles. Again, very generous serving size. I find myself stuffed trying to finish a bowl myself. Other dishes that I would recommend are the braised fish and pancake. I've been coming here since before the owners changed and honestly, I liked the food with the other owners more for sure but it's still yummy! And it doesn't help that the present owners took away the potato pancakes that i LOVED ): But it's definitely still good food, don't get me wrong! Anyway, I always order the Dak Kalguksu, or basically the Chicken noodle soup with flat wheat noodles. It's perfect for a cold or rainy day and it's a great comfort food! My best friend and I come here EVERY time I'm back in the area. Wow... delicious!!!! I have always gone to "I love noodle" in Buena Park for chicken kalguksu... but since theyve shut down, I havent been able to find another place that made chickem kalguksu like they did. But this place... NAILED it and is even better than my old spot. The noodles are unexplainable..... its the PERFECT balance of soft/chewy and i seriously go crazy when its the perfect combination. The broth is nice and thick... I seriously could not keep my spoon and chopsticks down. The pah-jun was also delicious. Freshly made and cut into pizza slices... crispy on the outside, but nice and soft inside and they sure do not skimp on portions/quality.
